Emelia Sullivan and Andy Dalton have been friends since they were five years old—the day his family moved in to the house next door. Connected by bedroom windows that faced each other and a treehouse they shared in the backyard, the two became lifelong best friends. Emelia loved Andy with all her heart.
But not like she loved his older brother, Samuel.
Tall, handsome, and the absolute best at everything he ever did, Samuel Dalton captured Emelia’s heart without even trying. He was her first, and longest-lasting, crush.
Children grow up and move away from home. With effort, some ties are strengthened by time. Some are frayed, on the verge of breaking.
For Emelia, coming home to see Andy over summer break is easy. Finding out Samuel is home for the summer too, however, provides a challenge she is determined to overcome. Will a friendly competition for the title “Best Man” help Samuel see Emelia is not the same little girl he left behind, years ago?
No matter how long she’s been away, home is the place she can count on, where everything always stays the same.
This was a page turner the minute Samuel hit the page. This book is laugh out loud funny and every chapter ended with me needing to read the next. The author Kat Tammen, had me completely drawn in and 100% committed to the characters before she hit me with the tragedy out of no where (you will have to read to find out) and it completely pulled on my heart strings. Great book and I highly recommend you read this book.
I was sent this book for review but the review is honest and my own.
Ok I am all for roller coasters but this book took me on a ride that I will not soon forget Emmy is best friends with Andy and in love with Andy’s brother Samuel. Of course he doesn't act interested in her at all then the competition to be Andy’s best man let's these two be together but life happens and it takes a lot for them to get their hea.
This book had me on an emotional roller-coaster! At the beginning, I felt slightly strung along as I wasn't sure where this was going with Emmy. By the end, I was crying tears of sadness and then joy!
I really enjoyed that the plot had more substance than a simple love story. It kept me guessing and then packed a punch.
Samuel truly won my heart and I was rooting for them fairly quickly. The ending was perfect and made me feel proud of both Emmy and Samuel.
This is a well written and beautiful story which had me totally captivated throughout. Emilia and Andy have been best friends since childhood, but it is his older brother Samuel that Emmy is drawn to in other ways. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! I look forward to reading more of this authors’ work in the future.
The Best Man is a roller coaster of emotions, and one of those stories that stayed on my mind even after I'd finished reading it. While Emmy is in love with both brothers Andy and Samuel, this story wasn't a love triangle; Andy is clearly her best friend and Samuel the guy she's loved for as long as she can remember. When Andy gets engaged, a friendly competition is enacted to see who is "the best man."
When Emmy finally gets her moment with Samuel, that happiness is shattered by a tragic turn of events. I didn't want that to be the one and only time for them! There is a lot that goes on in both of their lives before they are able to get to that happy place once again, but the ending is perfectly perfect and for all the tears I shed, I finished The Best Man with a smile on my face.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I don't know what to feel about this book. It was fantastic and I loved it but my feelings are all over the place. I laughed and smiled so much and was just in awe of this story. That doesn't mean it's all fun and games because it's definitely not and I may have shed a tear or twenty. The characters are all so real and this whole story was inspiring. To say it's a phenomenal debut from this author is an understatement!!
Wow!! I really enjoyed this book!! It was beautifully written it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it tugged on my hearstrings!! This is one of those books that you will read over and over again and again!!
Enjoyable! Really liked it. Great writing style and very well developed characters. The story flowed, was humorous, whimsical, light hearted, lol funny, serious and just awesome! Read this book today.
I loved this book so much! Sometimes you read a book and it sticks with you long after and you think about it often and re-read it, this is that kind of book!
Emmy is in love with both of the Dalton boys that live next door, Andy, as a best friend and brother, Samuel, as the man she wants her next adventure with.
This sweet and emotional book will have you in stitches and reminiscing about those teenage feelings you got around the boy next door. It’s filled with mischief and so much love you will be left a full heart.
I love this quote!
“I could hear the boys talking in the tree house. The sound made me feel carefree and happy. Their voices were a couple of octaves lower than they had been when they were children, but surprisingly, their laughter felt the same in my heart.”
*Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
This was such an emotional ride. I am so happy I got a chance to read this book. I thought the book was a little slow in the beginning but then it picks up. Emmy is love with both brothers but obviously, Andy is her best friend and Samuel is the brother she loves. When Andy gets engaged they both fight for the position of the best man. A lot happens in this book. Definitely give it a try.
I have never read anything by Kat Tammen before. I must say I loved it.i liked how Kat kept you on the edge of your seat the whole book. I liked also that she threw a little surprise in there that I didnt expect.
The Best Man is about Emily Sullivan and her best freind Andy Dalton. Andy's brothers Samuel and Emily compete to see who will be Andy's best man. This is definally a must read
A coming of age book where the characters show the reader what friendship is meant to be. Romance and a shocking turn near the end. You will, however, have a smile at the end of the story and will be glad you’ve read this book.
This story touched me , it was filled with laughter and hurt and tears . I will re read this story over and over again. If this is ever a movie please I need front row seat. Love love love
This is a must read. Loved all the characters. So rich with personality and loyalty and love. Andy and Emmy, sigh! We should all have best friends like that. Please read, read, read this.
