A wonderful, informative and delightful story with interesting and exciting characters.

A great take on immortality and vampire lore. I loved the main character Adso and fell in love with him straight away!

The weave of the story as we make the pilgrimage with the characters is well paced and interesting.
Learning a little more about each character along the way.

I appreciated Laura adding footnotes to some of the well researched and places details.

This is a vampire tale set mostly in the Middle Ages, with a new and unique setting. I'm not a huge vampire tale reader but this kept me engaged and I found the story compelling. My only regret, I suppose, is that I found the stories of the pilgrims heading to the pilgrimage site as compelling as the dark tale surrounding the vampire leading them.

I've enjoyed Laura's storytelling for years now, and this novel is no exception. I love a book that quickly draws me in to care about the characters, balancing a good tale with interesting historical information. Laura has struck that balance perfectly here, combined with just the right amount of fantasy worldbuilding and a compelling plot. This is the kind of story you won't want to put down. I'm so glad this first book is finally available to English readers like myself, and I hope to read the rest of the series soon.
