Judging Books

The debutante path is a fairly straight track: who you are, who you associate with, and whose label you are wearing become priorities. They define you. They are the aspects by which you are judged.

Ashlyn’s world has been one of enlightenment and finesse, and now she is ready to take on the financial world at her father’s company just as he had always planned. Her future had been scripted long ago, but a chance meeting with a beautiful boy on a bicycle gives Ashlyn a new outlook on life.

Ethan is far too young, far too tattooed, far too pierced—just far too everything—to ever fit into her world. He has issues, too—major ones. Ashlyn knows he will never be accepted by her friends, let alone her overbearing father, but there is something about his live-in-the-moment outlook that keeps drawing her back into his arms.

Ashlyn must make a choice. Can she forgo the family dynasty and live life to the fullest with this fascinating but damaged young man?

Carpe diem.

Shay Savage is one of those authors that can write in many different genres. Judging Books falls into the cont. romance/NA category (and it’s a stand-alone- YAY) and I adored it! Ethan was one of the sweetest and best heroes I’ve read about in quite some time!

Ashlyn Draganov is getting ready to graduate with her masters in accounting. Her job, and her life for that matter, are pretty much planned. She will work at, and eventually run the family business, Draganov Financials. What is not in her plan is a guy like Ethan. Ashlyn is 26, and Ethan is only 19. When she meets him, his age throws her for a loop, as does his tattoos and piercings, but there is something special about Ethan and she is instantly attracted to him.
He was sweet, adorable, intelligent and absolutely the most incredibly gorgeous individual I had ever seen in my life.

Ethan Ramsey is the greatest. He’s just one of those guys you can’t help but to adore. I loved every single thing about him. His life is far from what I expected it to be when I first met him. Ethan isn’t the normal tattooed, bad boy book boyfriend. He’s totally different and I LOVED that about him! He’s a unique character and I think it’s great not to read the same old same old.

Ethan and Ashlyn had great chemistry and you could feel how much Ethan truly cared about her from the start. His honesty and sweetness was so refreshing! There were things about Ashlyn that irked me for a good part of the book, but she came around completely and by the end, I loved her as well! She and Ethan were truly a great pair!

The title- Judging Books, sums up this story so well. We are all so quick to judge based on appearance, but some people, like Ethan, are so much more than what meets the eye! If you’re looking for an original, heartfelt, steamy, and fun read- pick up this book! I enjoyed it so much!!!

This story is about Two opposites pulled together through instant attraction and an intense case of chemistry. Ashlyn is 7 years older than 19 year old Ethan. Ashlyn comes from and runs with an uppity group of millionaires. Appearance is everything to her and her family and friends. So when she is falling for a guy with tattoos, piercings, long hair, and younger than her, she knows it can't go anywhere. He will never be accepted into her circle of people. Even with him being a billionaire.
Ethan:

Ashlyn:

Carpe Diem.
Why not, so Ashlyn goes for it. She falls for the one boy she can't have. That is until her friends see her with him and Ethan sees her reaction of embarrassment and shame. He walks away hurt, crushed by the one person he gave his heart to.
This story is a story of judging, its a story of longing, it reminds us to make the most of what we are given, take the chance, and live for you and not for others, as today could be your last.

Definitely a good read. Not a favorite, but I did enjoy it overall.

‘JUDGING BOOKS:’ Is a new Standalone Contemporary Romance Novel by Shay Savage

We're first introduced to Ashlyn who is on the verge of graduating with her masters in accounting and business administration as she's riddled with nerves due to her dooming interview at Draganov Financial, even though it was pretty much a given that she'd get the job due to the fact that her father owns the business.

Doning her executive interview clothes and some killer heels she choose to wear off her bestie, which were in fact actually nearly killing her, but all in the name of fashion!! Then due to her car not starting she decides to hoof it on foot, killer heels and all!!

Thrown for a loop when she's chatted up on a street corner waiting for the all clear to cross when she’s asked by a gorgeous tatted up, pierced, man child sitting astride his BMX bike, if she’d go on a date with him. Who in their right mind would walk up to a suit wearing female and ask for a date? Ethan that's who!!

He was sweet, adorable, intelligent and absolutely the most incredibly gorgeous individual I had ever seen in my life.

Panicking because she's going to be late arriving for her interview Ethan offers her a ride of her life!! Which she accepted..Dropping her off outside of the building he mentions he'll wait for her to finish if she'd consider going out on that date with him.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Which out of character for her she mentions if he's still waiting when she's finished then of course she'd go out on a date with him.

Things from this point move swiftly.

So many obstacles were in these two's way, he's a highschool dropout, tattoos and piercings, a man bun make up his appearance, add in the seven year age gap none of her friends in her circle would ever accept him, let alone her father, he'd probably disown her.

He was so far removed from every guy I had ever dated, he couldn't even be considered in the same species.

With all that standing in their way is all that a deal breaker for her?

Ethan isn't your typical book boyfriend we'd all be jumping on claiming him as ours, he has so many layers to him once you scratch under the surface, he crawls within your heart, his hardships make him such a unique, endearing character where you wish his story didn't end, I wanted more, I needed more, I craved more, the only thing I would've changed about this book was how swiftly it was all wrapped up.

This was so different/unique to anything I've read before, a life learning lesson, and we all fall into the category of judging on looks, appearances, status, the list goes on which is why I enjoyed this book as much as I did.

Judging Books is NA stand-alone romance by one of my favorite authors Shay Savage. Ms. Savage never fails to amaze me with her unique writing style, complex plots, and broken characters. In Judging Books she delivers a beautiful forbidden romance with a clear message about how not to judge a book by its cover and instead use your heart to search a person's soul.

"Carpe diem."
Ashlyn is a privileged young woman who is weeks away from graduating with her master's degree. After her graduation, she will be taking a job at her father's company where she is being groomed to take over the company. On her way to her final interview, she meets the most unlikely young man. Ethan is a tattooed, pierced, and lives life without any inhibitions. When he meets Ashlyn he is overcome by her beauty and sees something special in her. Although the two are complete opposites, they find a unique and tender connection. As a fast friendship is formed, a physical attraction blooms and the two share a passionate night together. But when the reality of what a relationship with Ethan would mean for Ashlyn, the pressures of social rules and expectations become too much for her to bear. Ashlyn and Ethan might be perfect for one another and yet, it will take courage for both to find the strength to be together.

"You want it slow, sweetheart or do you want it rough?"
Judging Books is a touching romance between two very different individuals. Ethan has learned to overcome his circumstances and thrives by living in the moment. The dynamics between Ethan and Ashlyn are explored thoroughly as we witness the internal struggle Ashlyn is facing. I felt compassion for both of them and yet, there were moments during the read that I wanted to throw my kindle against the wall due to the choices Ashlyn made. The stakes are high for them both to forget about society rules and expectations and instead embrace happiness together. In the end, her transformation is flawless as she finds happiness in Ethan's arms.

description

Overall, Judging Books will appeal to readers who enjoy a tender romance of "opposites attract" with passion and smoking hot steam. Shay Savage is a fantastic storyteller and she always delivers!

Just a short review today.

I really, really, really wanted to love this one as I have adored other Shay Savage books.
The heroine is great, the hero is sweet and I loved reading about his condition. I did not even know it was possible to live like that. I won't tell much as I don't want to spoil your fun.

There were really sweet and heartbreaking moments in this story but something did not click for me. I hoped for another Transcendence story and Ethan was very promising. I can't explain what did not work for me really.

What I want is to praise the author for making us realize how judgemental most of us (me included I confess) are. We judge someone by his/her looks. Now if I get the chance to overcome my first impression and speak with that person I'm not closed minded: I revise my opinion. But crossing someone like Ethan on the street the chance would be high that I would be frightened to speak with him...

In a nutshell:

Topic: *****
Writing: ****
Female Character: ***
Male Character:****
Sex: *****
Overall: between *** and ***1/2 and Hell if I know why!!!!!

4.5 Stars!

What I love about Shay Savage is that her books always have a unique flavor. I always get a little more than I expect and Judging Books was no different.

This is the story of Ashlyn and Ethan. Ashlyn is set on a path to take over her father's financial company. She lives in a world where people are expected to have a certain look and wear designer clothes and is surrounded by people who come from wealthy families. Her father and her friends have certain expectations from her and falling for someone like Ethan is not a part of that plan. He did not fit the mold of someone she was expected to date.

I am totally crushing on Ethan right now. Man bun, tats and piercing! Nuff said.

He was also refreshingly honest, if not a bit blunt because he believed in living life in the moment because of tragedies in his past. He also cooked Ashlyn breakfast and massaged her feet. Seriously this guy was so sweet. He does have a lot of baggage but this actually made him more endearing to me when you learn his story. Ethan's issues are so unique and this is what I'm talking about with Shay Savage. She took what would have been an ordinary contemporary romance story and made it remarkable and obviously did a lot of research to make Ethan's story special.

There is definitely a bit of insta-love but I didn't mind. Somehow it just worked. They face a few challenges as Ashlyn learns to accept Ethan for who he is and forget what other people think of them as a couple. Overall this was a great read with a swoon worthy special hero.

This is one of those books that started off for me, a bit like.....um....not really sure if I buy in to these characters and this situation....after all he's only 19 and she is 26....then the simple honesty of the story "kicked in"......and I was totally loving the beauty and the very real ROMANCE of it all.....in fact this was a book that just got better and better for me.
It is a perfect N.A. read IMO, tender, sweet and emotional with an important life lesson: don't judge others by their appearance!!!!.....the only thing different that I would really have loved to see here..... was an Epilogue....this story really cried out for one ....I guess I will just have to use my own imagination.

This is my second book by Shay Savage and there is a quality to her writing and stories that I really like. My first book by her was a way different type of read from this one (Outnumbered) but I connected strongly to both of them on an emotional level.

I know "Transcendence" is probably her most well known book and I hope to read that one eventually as well.

I didn’t hate this but it wasn’t my favorite either. I’m not crazy about older h/younger hero, which it was never really a problem. The hero just seemed a lot younger than 19 ( their age’s are 26 and 19 ). Besides all that the book enjoyable and I definitely couldn’t stop reading. It was also completely safe and pretty hot. The hero was super super sweet and completely obsessed with the h.

When you read a Shay Savage book you can always expect the unexpected. I don’t know how she does it. She always manages to blow my mind with her story telling abilities. Judging Books is no different. Well, it is different. But it’s still a Shay Savage book.

When I read the synopsis for Judging Books I was VERY intrigued. Older woman with a brain damaged boy? Sign me up! I was so curious how this would play out. And it was PERFECTION!! Shay outdid herself with this book.

I absolutely LOVED Ethan. He was the epitome of THE BOOK BOYFRIEND. He’s sweet, he knows what he wants and he goes for it, hence Ashlyn the older woman. And Ashlyn? I loved her as the lead female character. She was perfect for Ethan.

I loved reading the softer side of Shay. Most of her stories are pretty hard core but not Judging Books. Judging Books is definitely going to my favorites shelf. A MUST READ!!

I love books where the heroine is older than the hero, that's the main reason why I get this book + Shay Savage's Offside is a favourite read of mine.
Now Ashlyn, the heroine is 7 years older than Ethan, the hero. It is an instant attraction and some major issues from both sides. Why the 1 star? Ethan, I am trying to be an understanding person because of his medical condition but I can't. Most of the time he sounds like a 15 year old instead of 17 and that annoys the heck out of me and Ashlyn, you're a 26 year old woman, grow a backbone and tell the haters to fuck off and leave you to pilot your own life.

I received a copy of this book to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

On the debutante path Ashlyn's life has been a fairly straight track. Who you are, who you associate with, and whose label you are wearing become priorities. They are the aspects by which you are judged. Ashlyn's world has been one of enlightenment and finesse, and now she is ready to take the financial world at her father's company just as he had always planned. Her future has been scripted for her for years. But, a chance meeting with a beautiful boy on a bicycle give Ashlyn a new outlook on life.

Ethan is to you, far to tattooed, far to pierced....just far to everything...to ever fit into her world. He however has issues, some pretty major ones.

You guys are going to fall so in love with Ethan. I swear the worlds needs more people with Ethan's live in the moment attitude. If we all lived like it was possibly our last moment with someone and said how we really feel, or do the things we always wanted to do but put off till tomorrow, this world might be a better place. Judging Books is absolutely an amazing book, wrapped with lessons that we all could use reminders of and learn from. I loved Ethan from the moment he takes Ashlyn to her job interview on his BMX bike so she isn't late and doesn't have to walk in shoes that are killing her feet. Ashlyn, quiet frankly, was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She has always had everything she could ever want, a certain type of friends and the destiny to take over her fathers financial company when he retires. She is a straight A student studying for her master's and on the fateful day she meets Ethan she looks at him like he has three heads when he asks her out. He has tattoo's and piercings in his eyebrow and lips. His clothes are not the best in the world and he is riding a bike hanging out on the corner with is friends. In other words Ashlyn looks at him and sees a young kid who has nothing better to do with is life than hang out on the corner all day with his friends. Boy oh boy is she, and quiet frankly all of us in for a shock when she finds out who Ethan is. I loved how the story unfolded and how he and Ashlyn change each other's lives. It isn't just Ashlyn who learns but Ethan too. We should never judge anyone from the clothes they wear or the things they are doing. However the way Ashlyn and her friends are raised it is to hang with people who have just as much money, dress in the finest, and are on the upper crust of society. With that said everyone is guilty of judging others before getting to know them.

Shay Savage never fails to write books that I absolutely love. Weather she is writing about a enforcer for the mob, or a historical romance that will leave you breathless and one the edge of your seat, even a caveman....I have loved them all. Judging Books is absolutely no different. It is a book that sucks you in from the first moment and will have you reading as fast as you can to the very end. I loved that this book is so eye opening and I hope that all of you love it just as much as I have.

I'm usually a sucker for a Shay Savage book but this story was a little disappointing. I couldn't pin point what I was disappointed with. It was slow in some places and too fast in others. Insta-love, big age difference, too fast as far as sex and then they're moving in together. I might have liked the story better if there was some real angst. One minute they're sleeping together, then her friends don't approve, the heroine smoothes that over. Heroines father doesn't like him, heroine smoothes that out with a couple of sex scenes. The end. Even though I didn't care for this story, Shay Savage is still an auto buy for me.

This book was SO amazing! When I read the description of this story it sounded really good. After actually reading it I can say it's a lot different and so much better than I expected!
Ashlyn grew up very comfortable and has nothing to worry about when it comes to money. She's almost finished with her Masters Degree and has a job set up at her father's company. Her interview is just a formality. Ashlyn's father expects her to take over the company when he retires. In her world everything is judged based on looks, clothes and how much money someone has. This is all she knows. Until she meets Ethan. Ethan is covered in tattoos, piercings and behaves nothing like what is tolerated in her world. He's also a lot younger than she is and stuff has happened to him and he has some issues. I love how Ashlyn just runs into Ethan and basically judges him right away. He follows her and there is a connection that she doesn't want to admit is there. He seems like a player, but the longer they talk, the more you realize he is nothing like he seems. Ashlyn has never felt like this for anyone and Ethan is more honest than any guy she has ever known. Can she look past his differences to her 'perfect' world and let herself fall in love? The writer knew how to make us fall in love with Ethan and route for him. His story is heartbreaking and you so want him to have everything he wants. It's something I've never read about in a book (I don't want to say too much, because of spoilers) and this was refreshing. I normally don't like it when two people meet and instantly fall in love and they live happily ever after. Shay Savage made this connection seem realistic and made me want them to have a happily ever after. I think she gives a great message that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. At times I have to say Ashlyn bugged me because of the fact that all she thought about was what her family and friends would think. I understand she grew up like that, but it's frustrating when a character doesn't feel confident enough to make her own choices. That is another thing this book had: character growth. Ashlyn changed a lot in this book and in a very good way. She finally started standing up for herself and what she wanted. This was all her family and friends really needed. The only thing that this book was missing, was Ethan's POV. I would've loved to been able to take a look inside his head and how he processed everything. That would've given it just a little bit more dimension! Even though I missed that this book still deserves five stars.

There is no question that Shay Savage writes some of the most unusual, most eclectic books ever. Some I can’t get enough of *cough – Transcendence, read it! – cough, to others that hold no appeal to me whatsoever so every time I do start a new one, I know I’m in for something unique. And Judging Books once again fits this bill.

Ashlyn, our heroine, has her life all planned out – by her father. She’s a people please so she lets him steam role right over whatever she might want. She’s taking college courses to further the job she’s slotted in for as the CFO as her father’s company. She has the right kind of friends, dresses the right kind of way, drives the right kind of car; she does everything the ‘right’ way.

But the way she’s living her life is thrown out of whack when she meets Ethan, our hero. It’s usually the hero’s that are so different in Ms. Savage’s books and this is the case once again here. Ethan is younger than Ashlyn. He’s long haired and tattooed and pierced. He is everything NOT right. He introduces himself to Ashlyn while she’s on her way to a job interview for the job that’s a given. He’s odd right off the bat, but Ashlyn accepts his offer to take her to interview, rather than walk on her ill-fitting shoes - on his bicycle.

Ashlyn knows that Ethan is not the kind of guy for her, but being a people pleaser, she doesn’t want to hurt his feelings and as she gets to know him she sees what a special, kind, loving, generous and original person he is and falls deeply in love with him. But does she have enough inner strength to stand up to her friends and her father?

It’s a rather simple sounding plot and conflict but when done in the hands of a master, and I consider Shay Savage a master, it makes for a wonderful and emotional tale. I already gave a couple of Ethan’s attributes but what makes him unique is he suffers from brain damage. They had to do some kind of surgery and now his right brain and left brain can’t talk to each other with some rather unusual results. He has suffered even more and worse things in his young life but he faces his life with such an upbeat way that it’s almost impossible not to love him. And while Ashlyn’s capitulation to all things ‘good’ is a bit frustrating, it’s completely understandable considering her circumstances and though young, she’s a character I really like.

So while not completely up there with Transcendence and for me no other book is, this is another book by Shay Savage that I’m happy to recommend.

First: Thank you +Shay Savage for writing this book!

Such a beautiful, refreshing loving story about 2 people who kept me surprised and captured my heart while reading their story.

Loved, loved, loved how just as the title says, everyone always judges people by their appearance right off the bat before even speaking or getting to know them.

This book, it gave me all the feels.

Was sooo able to relate to Ashlyn & Ethan.

Ethan melted my heart with his sweetness towards Ashlyn. HIs actions, his words, his actions totally had me swooning.

Go get this book and find out if Ashlyn & Ethan can look past their insecurities and haunted pasts to enjoy living in the now and not holding back on what they want...

which is each other.

Well, this one was a fun breath of fresh air. I don’t know what I expected going into this one because the truth is that you can never really expect anything from Shay Savage. Her writing range is wide and deep and I never really know what she is going to give me which is one of the reasons that I really enjoy reading her books. Every one of them is so different and unique and Ashlyn and Ethan’s story was no exception.
I say this story was unique because Ive never read one quite like it. It had the obvious tropes like older woman/younger alpha guy but some of the story was very different and Ethan his self was most of the reason. This guy was sweet and a really swoony book boyfriend even with all of this “issues”.
I enjoyed this one. I always enjoy this authors books. Another five star book from a five star writer.

Seriously thrown for a loop on this one. Loved it! Shay has a wonderful talent of giving us characters that are far more than just their appearance. How many of us have judged someone because of their appearance? Odd clothing? Tattoos or piercings? I'm sure we all have, even for just a second. The important thing is to ignore the appearance and learn about the person. It's surprising what you can find out about someone by just giving them a chance. Ethan has so much to give the world but he chooses to live it his own way. On a side note, the reasons for his tattoos and piercings are very special and unique. Ashlyn has lived in a glass bubble, surrounded by wealth and catty friends, for so long it rocks her world when she falls for Ethan. I fell hard for these two and was pulling for them from the beginning. Always a Shay Savage fan I was pleased to get an advanced copy and wrote my review voluntarily and unbiased.

Ethan is realy a sweet man, I just want you to be happy.” Ethan gave me his luscious smile, which I kissed and then kissed again." I liked this book, I fell in love with Ethan he was just a good man.

Ethan is charming

Normally, I find novellas and "fall in love fast" stories unsatisfying. But from the first encounters between Ethan and Ashlyn, Ethan is compelling enough a character that the love story didn't feel silly.

The thing I didn't enjoy was that Ashlyn's worries feel shallow, and then she gets over them too fast. I wish the author has written some deeper scenes to help us understand why she has those worries. It felt implausible that money wouldn't matter more to Ethan's acceptance.

But Ethan was charming enough to carry the book anyway. He's the type of good guy but not perfect guy who is appealing and interesting, the type any reasonable person ought to be thrilled to call for, making me wish more authors wrote better good guys.
