Love was for suckers. That’d been my motto for a long time. But I didn’t spend much time being lonely. If I had an itch, I’d scratch it. But I never got attached. I didn’t let them get close enough to hurt me like he did. I was never going through that again. But fate can be a prickly witch. Running into Garrett Bohannon twenty years after he destroyed my heart and faith in all things love was the last thing I expected. He’d been gone a long time, and I never thought I’d see him again. When he decides to come back to town to make things right, it takes every thread of willpower to keep him away. Even when all I want is to fall into his arms and go back to when he was the only thing that made me happy. He’s as stubborn and determined as he was back then, and he wants a second chance. He wants me. And I don’t think I’m strong enough to stay away.
Jami Denise is a romance writer from Southern California.
She’s always had a passion for books and words. She loves the freedom to express herself through her stories and share them with others. She likes taking risks, pushing her characters into directions that challenge the reader and bring them out of their element. Her romance is always on the spicy side, with a little bit of sweet to make you swoon. She writes about swoony bad boys and sassy gals that make them squirm. She also loves cats and cherry limeade.
This was my first novel by this author, and my actual rating would be around a 3.5 stars. There were moments where I was jumping for joy, and others that were making me question Garrett and his actions. This story was very complex and that had a lot to do with the amount of history between the two main protagonists.
Abbie is set in her ways and is not willing to open her heart to anyone because she does not ever want to get hurt again.
Garrett has made many mistakes in his life, and leaving Abbie in the first place was one of them. His overreaction to her secret had me fuming, and I think that is why I cannot love this novel as much as I would like to.
I enjoyed that this novel had themes of heart break, broken families, lost loves, but also friendships, families can be your closest friends and their children, first loves and ultimately loving your entire self.
I would definitely read more from this author moving forward. There were steamy scenes that were well written, and the characters are flawed...I enjoy when characters are relateable and this story took turns that I was not anticipating.
This is the second book in the Snapdragon series. It doesn't pick up where the first book ends. It's set after, but its centered on Abbie and a love she had long ago. He comes back and turns her world upside down. They have their trials, but they push through and endure. I could not put the book down. I literally read it in one day, and that's not like me. Series or stand alone? Series, could be read as stand alone. Would I recommend? Absolutely. Gives you hope that love endures anything. Would I reread? Yes! I love everything Jami writes and I never want to put books down. I always want more when they end. Fabulous author.
Abbie and Garrett’s story had everything I want in a book. I laughed and cried (only a little I swear) - it tugged at my heartstrings and made me root for a couple to get their act together and just be happy. They deserved it. They worked for it. And it’s fun to watch. Garrett stole my heart in this one - Jami Denise out did her awesomeness and I now sit waiting anxiously for #3 in this series. Thanks so much for the opportunity to read this one early - love love love love love.
I absolutely loved this story of Abbie and Garett! Abbie was very sassy at times and I also wanted to tell her be quite and let the man speak! Lol but that’s what’s great about books is you get so attached to the characters that you feel you are going thru the motions with them Jami Denise never disappoints in her writing I can’t wait for more!
I can't say how much I love this series. I have fallen in love with these characters like they are real life friends. This author has a tremendous way of bringing a story alive, her storylines are real, her characters are flawed and raw. I love it! Looking forward to more.
Abbie and Garrett had a secret relationship in high school that ended terribly. Now 20 years later Garrett is back and Abbie doesn't know what to do. Will they rekindle the love they had or is Abbie so heartbroken she will forever hate Garrett?
Abbie and Garrett had a good story. I enjoy second chance romances. It was a little confusing when Royal and Jenna were mentioned. In their story, Lana was the OW, but this book called her Lauren. I also thought Jenna was pregnant, but nothing is ever mentioned.
Garret and Abbie’s story had me feeling a lot of emotions. I love a good second chance and happily ever after story and this one did not disappoint. These two characters had many flaws when they were younger and made mistakes. True love never fades away and these two characters were destined for each other. Looking forward to more.
