They are two strangers, struggling from day to day—one trying to overcome the past, while the other hides behind it.

Just when Tripp Alexander thinks he has everything figured out and nothing can stop him, a swift dose of reality plants his feet firmly on the ground. Maybe a little too close to six feet under.

Loren Jenson knows heartache. Circumstances from her past have tarnished her outlook on life, making her feel like her future has been pulled out from under her. That is, until a boy with deep green eyes and a shy smile falls into her life, bringing with him a connection she can't deny.

Will they be able to trust enough to share their secrets and accept one another, despite what they've been through? Or will the truth about their pasts derail the chance fate has handed them?

How do you allow yourself to live out the life set before you when you are the other one?

The Other One is an emotional journey written by the talented team known as Jiffy Kate.
The pain and suffering of the lead character, Tripp, is handled with a sensitive hand, and his life is shown with flashbacks, taking the reader on a journey —who he was, and how he came to be the person we meet in the book.
After a life altering event, and struggling to find himself, Tripp encounters Ania, or Loren as we eventually find out, and she proves to be the force that helps him moves forward, even as their pasts threaten to tear them apart. The slow burn of their relationship is so perfect for him, and in the end perfect for them. There is a gentle give and take in their relationship that drew me in, and I could feel their emotional connection.
Well written, and beautifully structured, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found myself tearing up at Tripp’s pain and frustration. I wanted to hug him and let him know he would be okay, and that life would get easier for him. Loren’s gentle strength, and ability to see him for the person he was underneath his fears was a lovely thing to read.
One of my favorite works by this duo.

I tried, but I am not a fan of the back and forth flashbacks.

The whole thing with Whitney...I really do not want to read about the hero and another woman and how great she was.

Not for me. This may work for you.

4.5 Beautiful Stars!!

“For the first time in a long time, I feel like the dark cloud that’s been hovering over me for so long is lifting. For once, something is going right in my life. Loren makes me feel like there’s a chance for normal. But she’s so far from normal. She is anything but. She’s extraordinary–a beautiful girl, with sad eyes, and hidden secrets–but she sees me, the real me, and she doesn’t run. She stays.”

No one does southern charm and second chance romances like the duo of Jiffy Kate. Their stories are witty, full of heart and utterly captivating.

The moment I read the first page of this book, I just knew that I was about to read something amazing and boy was I right. This story is heartbreaking and will have you dying to know what happened to Tripp and Lauren. Tripp’s life has been an absolute struggle for the past few years. An accident not only left him forever changed, but broken too. It’s eye opening and life changing and makes Tripp see that some things seriously need to change….Loren is no stranger to heartache and guilt. Her eyes are sad and tell so many stories…only she’s closed herself off from the possiblity of happiness. That is until she meets Tripp. There is just something about Tripp that calls to her. She can’t help but give into the connection she feels with him. Just when things are finally looking up for both Loren and Tripp, the rug will be pulled out from under the two of them one more time. They say the truth will set you free, but in this case the truth very well might just lead to heartache….

The Other One is a beautiful and heartbreaking story. It will pull you in from the very first page and will hold your heart hostage the entire time. Loren and Tripp’s story is not an easy one. Their story is real and easy to relate to. Loren and Tripp are both broken and dealing with a guilt neither really comprehends. I appreciated that Tripp and Loren really got to know one another before jumping into a relationship together. They had a strong foundation and friendship, so when they finally did get together, that made it all that much sweeter.

The Other One took my heart on a journey that it honestly was not prepared for. This is an amazing second chance romance. It is raw and real. It is a story of healing, forgiveness and finding peace. It is a story of true, real, unforgettable love. And I just loved getting lost in Tripp and Loren’s story….

The Other One by Jiffy Kate once again demonstrates how talented this dynamic duo is. Absolutely heartbreaking, The Other One is a beautifully written story about two strangers whose lives are rocked and completely altered when tragedy strikes each of their lives.

Fate…at least I like to think it was…intercepts by crossing their paths resulting in an undeniable connection that ultimately could change everything for both of them. Do you believe in destiny? Even when your happiness is the result of so much pain, lies, and suffering?

Well done once again Jiffy Kate!!!

This is a fantastically heartwarming novel of turning life around after faced with tragedy and finding love.

Tripp is a beautiful soul. He suffered a tragic event that changed him forever. Now he sees the beauty in unexpected things. Then he meets Lauren, a girl who is as broken as he is. Her hauntingly sad eyes intrigue him. They form a friendship which grows into something more.

These two authors know how to use all the feels. I immediately fell in love with Tripp and I loved reading along as he and Lauren grew and came together.

Fabulous read!!

This book is my top three book this year, and that's kind of a huge feat since I'm encroaching on my 100 book goal for the year. These ladies know what they are doing, and they do it very well. So well, in fact, that I can't help but compare their stories to those of the Queen, Colleen Hoover. They do Southern Romance at it’s best - with some completely flawed characters who just want to love and be loved in this life.

Jiffy Kate doesn't disappoint in The Other One, their third book release; their second release this year. I've read their other two books as well [Finding Focus and Chasing Castles], and while they are known for a little more romantic comedy story - the Other One takes a more dark and gritty approach to romance. If you are looking for a new author to obsess over, these two ladies need to take that place. They are spot on in their stories and are blazing their own trail in the indie world!

It's so beautiful to figure out who Tripp is and what happened in his life to cause him to be so shut off, broken, and confused. Then there is Loren; she's just as broken and alone under completely different, but still similar circumstances. When these two lives collide, there is no stone left unturned as they learn about each other and their pasts; however their secrets come back to haunt them and threaten to ruin it all. Can they find a place of forgiveness and love? Can they find a peace that neither of them knew was even possible? You have to read to find out, and believe me, the journey is rocky and you might Tripp a few times… but it’s so worth it. ←- see what I did there? (Pun intended!) Ha!

Tripp has such a beautiful heart!!! Although he experienced a life altering and devastating event, he survived and healed, and because of it he grew and loved. There was something beautiful and inspiring in what he perceived as his "brokenness".

"Loren makes me feel like there's a chance for normal. But she's so far from normal. She's anything but. She's extraordinary- a beautiful girl, with sad eyes, and hidden secrets- but she sees me, the real me, and she doesn't run. She stays."

Totally swoon-worthy moment right there, and the book is full of them. This book breaks out all of the feels. The authors do an amazing job of making you feel exactly how you imagine the characters in the book are feeling as they endure their struggles and hardships, as well as their experiences in falling in love, and those butterflies you feel when someone catches your eye. Reading about Tripp and Loren from the moment he saw her across the room until they full on fell in love was truly special. Their love was not an insta-fairy tale, and it came with challenges, but it was incredibly real and powerful; clearly they are two halves of a whole. The supporting characters of this book were also noteworthy in their sense of loyalty, support and just full on sense of family.

Another 5 Star Read from these authors. I loved their first two books, and this was did not disappoint.

Tripp Alexander is trying to get his life back after a horrific accident. He gets a job and notices a beautiful woman sitting in a booth at the cafe he was just hired at. He instantly is drawn to her but is too shy and withdrawn to approach her. Loren Jenson knows heartache. She goes to the cafe to think about what she's been through and notices the new waiter. He captures her attention even though they don't talk to each other. Can two broken souls heal each other? Find out in this awesome read!!!

Jiffy Kate did it again! This book grabs your attention from the beginning and does not let go. Tripp and Loren's story goes way beyond your typical love story. It's about love and loss, finding yourself, letting go of the past and embracing the future, overcoming your fears, and facing your demons. It's daring to hope and dream, and following your destiny. I have completely fallen in love with this book and I look forward to reading it over and over again!!!

The Other one is a story of second chances and redemption. The tale of two broken people who mend each other and become whole together. From the first page I was mesmerised by Jiffy Kate's words. I found myself rooting for Tripp and his Anya, turning the pages quickly to see what their secrets were, and how they overcame them. Quite simply it was a beautiful read.

Excuse me, Ms Jiff & Ms Jenny, but this story needs to come with a warning label!! I know people say some stories make you feel all the feels, but until they read this one they don’t know what they are talking about!

Tripp and Loren’s story is gut wrenchingly heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time! The way you portrayed their anxieties and vulnerabilities made me want to reach in and hug them both.

Don’t even get me started with Tripp’s relationship with Ben!! GAH! Talk about family goals!

Ok people, if you haven’t read anything by Jiffy Kate, I’m not sure what rock you live under, because you are missing out on some of the best writing I’ve read. (And I read a lot)

Go grab this one, or seriously any of them, you are going to love them!!

I enjoyed reading this story very much. Tripp is a young man who was seriously injured in a car accident, leaving him with traumatic brain injury issues. A girl, whom he calls Aria, comes into the restaurant where he works every Thursday and sits alone, writing in her diary, for hours. These two are destined for each other, as we find out just how they are connected as the story unfolds. This is a moving and well told story. I didn't read it in it's previous form, but here I found the characters well drawn, the plot compelling, the writing top notch. I enjoyed this story very much.

I enjoyed this story of Tripp and Loren! Jiffy Kate writes so amazing and so raw, that this story really touches the heart. My heart broke for Tripp and all he went through until he met a girl with a sad eyes, he felt a connection to her. Loren has her own secrets and pain she’s holding onto and when you find out, your in quite a shock. You constantly cheer these two characters on and use also want to reach into book and console them. Tripp’s family was fantastic and I loved how they supported him deeply through his hard times. This story was a emotional ride with a supreme ending!

Tears

This made me cry pretty darn good. LOL Tripp has a TBI and I can certainly relate to that, as I watched my dad fight death from a similar injury. The recovery is brutal. Metal and physical, so I feel like I can totally say this was told beautifully. The struggles to be " normal" are absolutely real and this was told very realistically. This family stole my heart with all of their unwavering support and Loren was a character anyone could love. The way this story tied together was the reason I ran out of tissues.

This is a sweet story, but kind of slow for me.
Trip and Loren have experienced somethings tragic in their lives. Their connection to each other was instant, but it too so long to build up from there.

The writing is great. The story line is great. My heart went out to both Trip and Loren. I just wanted MORE!

I will continue to read more books by Jiffy Kate! I think these authors are very talented and can't wait to see what they create for us next!

This book certainly wasn’t one to read fast. I became so invested in Tripp’s problems and his guilt. Loren was just the person he needed to see inside Tripp and be there for him. I love Wyatt who was such a kind, gentle man. Thankfully Tripp was surrounded by people who love him and supported him. This was such a beautifully written book that I can recommend without reservation.

This is more of a new adult novel and I think if I knew that, I would have had a better read. Tripp’s inner dialogue was a bit much for me. I also think that the story could have been flushed out more and flowed better. There were a lot of little events plus flashbacks that sort of jumbled things a bit.

Interesting!

Great characters, well written. Quite the slow burn - kept me guessing how it might finally resolve. I read the ebook version, which is not my favorite way to read, since the single page at a time viewing (compared to a print book) seems to affect my experience of a story.

Second chance at life

I really liked Tripp and Loren's story. It was filled with compassion and triumphs and love. I loved their connection and how they were brought together by fate. I just wished it moved quicker than a snail's pace. It was hard to get into but I was invested enough that I needed to know what happens. And I'm glad I did.

Tripp had an incredible obstacle thrown in his way. He’s working through it and trying to be a better person. Loren has been beaten down and she keeps beating herself down along with it. They manage to fumble their way along and find the right path forward. This is an amazing love story!!

Such an emotionally rich book! My heart broke for Tripp. My heart rejoiced at all the support Tripp has. There is also such a mystery to Tripp and Loren. When Tripp and Loren find one another it’s beautiful.

A good enough story, but I’m not sure I’m a fan of the extended flashbacks. This is set in the Blue Bayou / NOLA world but a few years ahead of Shaw/Avery. More NA. There were a few typos and grammatical errors.

Note: called both Turn of Fate and The Other One

All the feels with this one. Wow. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. Although I did have the big “surprise” figured out long before they even got to that part. Although I thought it was going to be more serious than it was. So I’m glad it wasn’t. Can’t say more without spoilers.

I wanted to give both these characters the biggest hugs!

I absolutely loved this book, yet I find myself at a lost of words. Tripp and Loren are too very pained people and both are s o undeserving of the pain they have to endure. From the very beginning, when we meet Tripp, we know that this is one for the heartstrings. His struggle to just be normal after he faced a life threatening event that changed him from the vibrant, handsome, and maybe even cocky man to a shell of his former self. However, when he sees Loren for the first time, he worked hard to bring some normalcy back to his life. Loren has experienced some tragedy in her life , and sits in the dining where Tripp works as a form of punishment that she thinks she deserves. Apart they are very sad individuals that I just wanted to hug ! I wanted to give a big hug to both characters. Together , in what can only be deemed as ironic, they soon discovered that they maybe destined to be together . I believe so. The talented duo of Jiffy Kate showcase their understanding of character development, situational conflict , and the healing properties of love . You would absolutely fall in love with the story !

Jiffy Kate is in the running for best writing duo in my book. Their stories bleed beauty and heart. The Other One is a tale that is emotionally charged and stunning. Loren and Tripp stole my heart! When I started reading this book I was excited to see where Jiffy Kate would take me. I know that it would be well written and could not wait to see what they had in store. I was not disappointed. This book was amazing. One of the things I loved about it was the way the story is presented. Tripp has gone through something tragic and as a result is dealing with recovery from a brain injury. We meet him about half a year post trauma and see a man that is struggling to keep it all together. When flashbacks happen from his past, moments we experience with him as he remembers, it shares who he was before everything happened. The Tripp from then and the Tripp now is starkly different, and the way we meet the man, as he speaks and thinks in the past and present, is brilliant. The execution of the before and after in this story is so well written. You see his struggle to grasp at things in day to day to life. You see who he was before and it shares the cocky swagger he no longer exudes. Not only is his personality different, but the way his thought processes are written allows us to see his struggle for even the tiniest details of his life. His tone and personality is in stark contrast between then and now, and being able to see both sides creates a connection between the reader and the story. Knowing who he was and who he now is makes his character all the more endearing and his story that much more rich.

The Other One shares an emotional story that might have been heavy and depressing but Jiffy Kate takes the book and gives the readers hope in a hard place. Loren and Tripp have both experienced different kinds of tragedy but from the very beginning, these two have been connected by their past and obvious pain. When hurt and anger surfaces, they push into the pain and create a moment of peace. The things that makes this book stand out is that it is so hopeful. There are plenty of emotionally gut wrenching stories out there these days, ones that will engross your soul and leave you spent. The Other One takes that pain and shows the healing process. The Tripp and Loren we meet in the beginning is very different from the ones at the end. They are constantly moving and that fact makes this book something great.

If you have read other books by Jiffy Kate, know that this one if different and a bit more introspective. It is equally as well written and developed but it is a different feel from the duo. It shows a more emotional side, one that is deep in transformation. Don’t miss this story. It is exactly what I wanted to read!
