Three Daves #3

Big D: Senior Year

Rate this book
Big D is wonderful. Big D is perfect. Big D is taking way too long to make a freaking move. Self-proclaimed good girl Jennifer Whitney never thought she’d be the aggressive one in a relationship. But what choice does she have when her big, beefy hunk of a boyfriend treats her like fragile glass? She knows she can’t let him keep thinking she’s a virgin, but no way can she explain how she lost it, especially when D’s already suspicious of her friendship with David—the guy she lost it to.

By the end of senior year, Jen thought she’d have it all figured out. Instead, she’s forced to rethink who she is and what she wants during one crazy weekend when she has a close encounter with all three of her Daves.

This is part three—the conclusion—of a reboot of the novel Three Daves.

“Of all the fraternity houses on campus, you had to walk into mine.”

Nicki Elson writes spicy fiction with a sweet and dreamy center. She does other stuff, too...like obsess over reality TV (and she's not ashamed to admit it).

Writing fiction wasn't something Nicki set out to do; it just sort of happened when she realized writing reports was by far her favorite part of her investment consulting position. She traded stock allocation and diversification for story arcs and dialogue and now weaves creative writing into her life with her family in the Chicago suburbs.

Nicki writes with two goals in mind: #1 to keep the characters realistic, even when their circumstances are anything but, and #2 to make the reader feel.

This book was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

“Big D: Senior Year” is the last instalment of the Three Davids series. I would write down a few random thoughts rather than writing a review on this book.

Big D: Perfect gentleman. I loved him from the beginning and I loved the fact how author instantly portrayed him as the ultimate gentleman by addressing him as Superman. I hated how it ended for him. Everyone takes advantage of the good guy, Jen did it too. I feel like Jen has been passively cheating on him from the beginning. The ending of Big D was so brutally realistic; that’s what happens to the good guys.

Jen: The sympathy I had for Jen in the first two books gone after reading this one. In this book, Jen was selfish, not true to herself and to others, flirted with David when she was with Big D, almost lost control when she went to talk to Dave. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy as she found her true love, but now I like her less.

David: I have always liked David. He has been a good guy from the beginning and he deserves to find his true love. I am happy for him.

So, those were my jumbled thoughts on the main three characters of this book. I have noticed, the author always introduced the love interest of Jen at the beginning of every book. That took some of the fun outta it. I lost interest way before the end. Author made it too obvious. At the end, it was too mundane for me.

Quite happy that I was right about which of the three Daves was going to get the big price at the end, but at the same time, this concluding instalment of Jen's amorous adventures in college, left me rather unmoved. Just a bit meh. I lost interest way before the end.

Still, it had a good wink to Casablanca, my favourite movie of all time. Big D was doomed from the beginning.

This review is really a review of all three books since I can't seem to remember where one picks up and the others end. 1st let me start by saying that it was interesting reading it after I read Elson's preface about how she changed the era the book was written and how she changed the book to more showing than telling. I can tell almost where she made those changes and then switched back to the telling. I can't be sure but it seemed like one minute I am deep in dialogue and the next I am in 3rd person wondering how I was pushed out of this awesome little Elson world. There are some serious grammatical and spelling errors, but if she can re-edit these books one more time, I think this series could really take off. The books are still really good and I definitely recommend them because David 1 is a total idiot in book 1. I love seeing him grow through this series. By the very end of book 3, I was on the verge of my seat. Each book is better than the last ending with a huge bit of awesomeness. There are times when I was screaming in horror at things that occur and then laughing my butt off putting myself in Jen's shoes. Her friends are a riot, and she learns the lesson of finding her true self through just growing up and making mistakes. Such a good series.

I received this series from the author for an honest review.

Jen goes to a party with her friend Kate and there she meets Bid D, and he calls her the next day and they start dating. He is the perfect guy:he always accompanies her home, goes to mass with her, doesn’t pressure her for sex, and there are times when even Jen herself wants to take things further, but decides to wait until she is sure of her feelings.
Jen and David goes to Springfield for a project for their classes and there she stumbles and breaks her ankle. David doesn’t separate from her and just when they take her to the operation room, they kiss.😍
But when they return home, they decide to forget about it and continue with their respective relationships.
Months later, Bid D declares his love for her and she does the same. And on the night of Big D’s formal fraternity party, Jen decides it is time to have sex with him. In that same party she runs into her ex Dave who is still an asshole. But when the time comes Jen realizes that she is not in love with Big D and breaks up with him. When she returns home she finds that David is waiting for her, there he declares his live for her.

“Then why are you here?” “Because…because I love you.” He kept his frightened gaze on her. Jen swallowed, her eyes popping wide in what easily could’ve been interpreted as horror. “I know, I know!” He stepped away from her and began pacing back and forth along the opposite wall. “I don’t have a right to say it. I’ve been trying for so long to shake it off and leave you alone. I swear. Remember when we came back to school junior year and we ran into each other at ReBar? We saw those stupid acts in the basement, and you kept cracking up?” She nodded, dumb with shock. “And you wanted a refresher course? I couldn’t do it. I wanted to. Believe me, I wanted to. But I was confused. And I was afraid. I loved hanging out with you that night. It finally felt like old times, and I didn’t want anything to change the feeling between us. I didn’t want to take a chance on blowing it for good. I was sort of in the middle of a wild streak, and I wasn’t sure I could break it. I was so afraid that if we started up again, I’d end up messing around on you. I didn’t want to hurt you again and make you hate me forever. “Or…worse.” His eyes dropped to stare at the floor. “I would’ve woken up the next morning and found out you were only in it for sex. You don’t know how hard it was for me to walk away from you after that last time together. If we’d done it again, and you walked away like it was nothing…”“Would it have been so terrible to just’ve told me how you felt?” Jen asked. David exhaled slowly. “I still thought it would be better for both of us if I only looked at you as a friend. It wasn’t until Springfield—after I kissed you, or maybe while I was kissing you—that I realized this was never going away. But by then it was too late, because you and Big D were getting serious. He’s a good guy. The kind of guy you should be with.” Jen knew it wasn’t fair for anyone to measure himself against Super D. “You’re a good guy, too.” “Thanks, but I wouldn’t have been a good boyfriend to you.” “How can you say that? You were a good boyfriend to Ellie.” “Uh, not exactly. I cheated on her. Constantly. You’re the only one I’ll ever really want.I wish you could see the look on your face right now,” he said. “Then you’d understand why I stayed away. I was so afraid of hurting you. I tried to do the right thing and leave you and Mr. Wonderful alone to carry on while I floated along with Ell. But when she started talking about moving to California with me and wanted to go apartment hunting, I just…I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t move forward and make actual plans with her.”” So.... I still don’t understand. You came here to tell me that you love but you can’t keep your dick in your pants long enough to ever be my boyfriend?” David pushed himself to standing, keeping his gaze steady upon her. “I’m here to tell you that I love you, I have for a long time, and now, finally…I’m ready for you.” They stared at each other for a few silent moments before he continued. “But I’m not here to make things difficult. I know you and Big D just moved on to a whole new level. I just want you to have all the facts, to know exactly how I feel. If he’s your choice, I’ll back off. But if you’re willing to give me a chance, to give us a chance, I’m here. I’ll wait for as long as you need me to”.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is the third in a three part novella series that I am given to understand is a reboot of one previously published novel.

This is my favourite of the novella triology.

Jen seems to have learned from her experiences, and grown up. She is much more mature in this book. Big D is a good guy. He is sweet, charming, and patient.

The intelligent dialogue and good chemistry continue in this book.

David (focus of novella 1) also seems to have somewhat grown as well and makes efforts to redeem his past short comings.

I like this conclusion of the series, I think things worked out as they should have. I do think however that I would have preferred to read them as one whole book, instead of three novellas. It was an interesting idea, but I'm not sure of the benefit it provided. Had I not been reviewing these three books together, I probably wouldn't have continued onto this one, and that would have been a shame, because as I said, this was my favourite installment, and I liked how it ended. But if it had been one book, with say three distinct but joining parts, I would always know that there was more to come in the story, and wouldn't have considered stopping.

Big D was awesome and loving and just all around the perfect guy. He's just not the perfect guy for Jen.
All I can say is YAY! She ended up with the right Dave!

Big D: Senior Year is the conclusion to the Three Davids series. Jen is finally a senior and after being put through the ringer by the ultimate jerk, she finally meets a wonderful match in Big D. Kind, gentle and attentive, he's the perfect boyfriend. So why can't Jen seem to move pass her feelings for the original David and accept the wonderful guy right in front of her?

Before I began reading this series, I read that it was originally a series written during the 80's and had been revamped to be relevant to today's new adult era. I think that was a smart move by the author and gets a whole new generation of readers into the series. It also originally was one book but was split into three different novellas when updated. I personally would rather the series be left as one cohesive book. Since each part is considered a novella, I felt like I had just gotten into the story and I had reached the cliffhanger. Aside from that one criticism, I really did enjoy this series. The characters were great and were easily relatable for the reader. I liked how each character from the series made an appearance in the final book and it was fun to see the growth each made throughout the years. I liked the relationship between Big D and Jen but always felt like her heart was somewhere else. Loved the ending too. Felt a little bad for one of the Davids, but couldn't have written it better if I tried.

If you have read the first two books in the series, definitely continue on with this book. You won't be disappointed! Or if you are looking for a fun, easy to read new adult series, I definitely recommend this one!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review!

Honestly, this was my favorite book out of the Three Daves series! I loved watching all of the characters grow, from Jen and (1st) David, to Jens friends/roomies; everyone seemed to finally start figuring out what it was they wanted out of life and out of relationships.

I really enjoyed Big D's character, and just thought he was a big teddy bear! I could tell that Jen really enjoyed his company, but their chemistry wasn't like her and (1st) Davids chemistry. I hated how it ended for him, wishing he had a happier ending, but it was nice of Nicki Elson to show that everyone gets hurt, no matter how nice someone can be.

I still cant stand Dave (from the 2nd book), but I was very pleased when Jen turned him down after he cornered her like the douche he is.

Great job with the series! I cannot wait to read more of your work!

Big D is your ideal guy. The hearts and flowers kind of man who would make you fall in love with every part of his being from his saccharine approaches and tender gazes. Every inch and fiber of him will bring out the sugar within your sweetness.

Meanwhile, David-- oh David! The boy who broke your heart back then. The boy who broke your heart, but you can't seem to get him out of your head... Well, maybe your heart too? He is the best friend, the confidante. Someone you wanted to be with whenever you want to feel acceptance.

Now, which of these two will be your beau?

In this chapter from Miss Nicki Elson, we are being given the choice to determine which weighs heavier to us: the man of every girls' dream or the man of our dream?

I received previous two parts from author, and out of impatience, I downloaded final part from Amazon.
Third Dave, Big D, was dreamy. Kind, patient and Reliable. But Jen & Big D had no chemistry, and that was the problem, perhaps?
In this book, Jen was a bit selfish. She had her reasons, but it could be considered as self-vindication. I think she didn't deserve Big D.
I didn't dislike David, first Dave, but after reading this last part, I am confused. I don't hate him, but also definitely don't like him. He sould just remain single without Ellie.
This was so realistic romance considering characters' age and circumstance. It was not ideal. But I could totally feel empathy.

This is the final instalment of this book series. We pick up were we left off after the second book and Jen is getting more and more involved with Big D, that she met at the frat party and things are going fine. However, she is struggling with her feelings for Big D and Dave has pulled away from her. Can she make it work with Big D? Does she love him or not? She is hot and cold in this relationship and is not getting what she needs. Will her and Dave have an HEA?
You must read it to know the conclusion of this story.

Perfect Big D

Big D, Senior Year is book three in the Three Daves series and wraps the series up nicely.

Oh, the choice! Now Jen's choice may not have been mine (come on, Big D is almost perfect) but for her it definitely felt like the right one.

Well written and entertaining this series is a value add to any readers library.
