Bad Behavior #1

So Twisted

Rate this book
Sometimes it feels good to be a little bad.

Callie has found the perfect job. As nanny for a single dad and his adorable daughter, she can pay off her student loans and live in a nice house in the heart of Chicago. There's just one problem-her new boss. Definitely no dad bod here. Just six-plus feet of raw, sexual energy. Whoever heard of a dad being so hot?

From the sparkle in his daughter's eyes, Aaron can see that hiring Callie was a good decision. But Callie's breathtaking smile and long legs have him thinking about his own needs. Aaron knows it's a bad idea to get involved with the nanny, but it's been years since anyone has captivated him like Callie.

When living under the same roof proves too tempting to resist, Callie and Aaron discover a mind-blowing passion unlike anything either has experienced. But with a curious child and a nosy family in the mix, their secret, no-strings fling soon turns into a twisted, tangled knot . . .

3.5-4 'Pancake beans' Stars!

Melissa Marino is a new author to me but I decided to check out her new book because who does not love a hot single dad, am I right? Well, I got more than I expected! lol This was definitely hot, and cute but it was, as the title says, SO twisted.

What started off as me simply hiring a nanny was turning into something much different.

I quite enjoyed the love story between Aaron and Callie. It started pretty great, with an adorable little girl mixed in there and with crazy chemistry when they started the sexy times. But towards the end.. BOOM! A twist I was kind of expecting but it was stronger than I thought it would be.

“No one is here. No one can hear you,” he said while increasing his pressure and tempo. “I want you to come for me. I want to hear how good I make you feel.”

I loved him, but I hated what we did to each other.

Things got pretty messed up (and emotional!) for some time and I do not get how stubborn these two were to accept their mistakes. Of course, they get their HEA at the end (which was pretty good but a little bit rushed to me!).

“You see that?” he asked.
“What?”
“That’s my future in the mirror.”

Still, I really enjoyed So Twisted so I am giving it 3.5-4 STARS! It for sure made me curious to read the next story about Abel (Aaron's brother) and Evelyn (Callie's BFF) so I will be waiting for that one. I am glad I gave Melissa's novel a go because I totally want to read the next book in this series!

Single dad and hot beautiful nanny! Do I need to say more? Yes, as cliche as this romance can sound, Melissa Marino has readers So Twisted that they can’t help but be enamored with this book. The story line flowed at an excellent pace that readers could feel the sexual tension brewing between the two characters and it was only a matter of time till things got explosive. With her fresh spin, Marino was able to capture her readers attention and see beyond the stigma of a single dad dating the nanny. Her incorporation of heart, raw emotions, and a little drama added the depth in this love story. So if you are looking for a love story that will have you so twisted in love then I suggest you better check out this book.

I enjoyed this debut novel SO TWISTED by Melissa Marino. I mean come on - who doesn't love a single dad story!

Single dad Aaron needs a nanny to look after his 4 year old daughter Delilah. The reason why he is single and left to care for his daughter really broke my heart because when it comes to broken homes and children needing both parents in their lives, my heart and mind is always with the child and what's best for them. I think Aaron is a good father and makes up for being a single parent by doing it all for his daughter - and he does it all really well.

Callie wants to be a teacher and bartends at night to pay the bills and when the nanny job comes up offering better pay and doing something she loves which is to be with children, she jumps at the chance.

And how can someone resist a cute little girl and her hot single father?!?!

The forbidden aspect of dating your employer while actually living in his house comes into play. And while this story was predictable, it was fun watching them tip toe around each other to hide their feelings and attraction.

And while I enjoyed this debut novel, I am not a fan of insta anything and it all happened so quick for me. I didn't understand their instant connection, I wanted to know more about them as individuals before jumping into something so quick and quite honestly when there is a child involved, a growing relationship needs time before revealing to the child that there is more happening between the father she has always had for herself and her new nanny. Sometimes I felt that Delilah was thrown in to scenes as an after thought. I did love her relationship with Callie but I felt that whenever they needed her to go so that they could be alone that it was easy to have her just run and watch tv or go stay at Grandma's house. For a dad who has done a lot on his own and to basically put his life on hold for his daughter, it just seemed too quick for him to change that part of him for a new woman in his life.

There were some parts of the book that were boring that I did find myself skimming at times and the ending (or last 20-25%) seemed like drama for the sake of drama and conflict and left me feeling meh.

Would I read more in this series? Maybe...I am interested in reading Abel's story - Aaron's brother who I liked very much.

Good debut and looking forward to seeing this author grow.

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

I fancied the idea of the blurb for this, and being a new author to me, thought I’d dive right in.

Aaron Matthews needs a live in nanny to assist with his adorable four year old daughter, Delilah. He is focused and fit, but hasn’t let his hair down or his heart open since his wife abandoned both him and their tiny daughter.

Calliope (Callie) is a 24 year old teacher student, supporting herself with bar work. When she hears of the nanny position, an interview proves too good to be true.

The usual immediate attraction ensues, and the “forbidden” line is crossed.

I found this story to be a little boring. Nothing really advanced along after your introduction to the main character’s background, giving you the salient points to both their behaviour. It felt elongated, especially towards the end.

The daughter was cute enough, and neither Aaron or Callie were purposely irritating, but I just felt more could have been made of their journey.

***4 ‘You caught feelings’ Stars***

So Twisted is sweet, funny and full of heart, both of the warming and breaking kinds, and quite realistic though there is a dash of fairy tale style romance in the mix, with a cast of characters that keep you turning the page to see what they’ll do next.

Callie is determined to get her degree in elementary education, but is working herself into an early grave to accomplish it, that is until a job as a nanny comes her way. I really liked Callie. I loved her drive and determination to accomplish her goals. She’s sweet, kind and knows her way around a precocious four year old. And despite some of her hang ups she had a good sense of self worth and had no problem stick up for herself when necessary.

Aaron has one priority in his life and that’s his daughter, Delilah and because of what happened with her mother he has closed himself off to anything that would even look like a relationship. I adored how much he doted on and loved his daughter and yet didn’t give into her every whim. He’s the kind of parent I admire. He was sweet and charming, but never truly opened himself up to trust anyone other than his family.

Their journey was an interesting one. The start of it was what I expected. Not only were drawn to each physically, but because of how the other interacted with Delilah and how she reacted to them. There was lot of worrying about the stigma that comes with the whole nanny getting involved with the father thing and them fighting their attraction, then when they finally give in it was pretty damn hot and I couldn’t help but swoon a little. The chemistry between them was sizzling and they were showing signs that they could become a great couple if only they could move past some of their issues and insecurities, but then IT happens and holy hell was it intense. And though I can say that both Callie and Aaron both had a role to play in the implosion, I’m firmly #TeamCallie. Of course, they do work things out, but here’s where I give the author made props because she kept things real. There wasn’t a quick “Oh, I forgive you for it all” fix, nor was it drawn out any more than necessary. Their reconciliation was done well and I liked where they ended up at the end of the book.

The writing was engaging, the pacing of the story was good and I thought the dual 1st person POV was well done. There was a good balance of humor, heat, drama and heart throughout the story and thought that the supporting cast of characters were well written. Delilah was adorable precocious and a very typical four year old and the toy cucumber will do in history as a perfect moment. Abel, Aaron’s brother, definitely peaked my interest and I’m hoping he gets a book because I’m going to enjoy watching him fall.

Leigh's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

I’m torn in how I felt about this book. I both enjoyed it and felt frustrated by it, but it didn’t leave me with the feeling of satisfaction when I was done that I longed to feel.

That is not to say that I didn’t enjoy myself. I loved the characters, loved the storyline and found myself laughing out loud at some of the vivid descriptions. I just couldn’t read the characterization of a past boyfriend being like a “Saint Bernard at a water fountain” during oral sex without sorting indelicately. Nor can I look at a Georgia O’Keefe painting the same way again after reading another comparison. But while I loved all of the elements of the story, they didn’t come together the way I wanted them to.

Aaron was the sexy, hot dad, hiring a nanny to care for his daughter and ultimately falling in love with her. Although it sounds like a cliché, the circumstances didn’t feel tawdry or wrong (not that tawdry and wrong isn’t hot as well!) and I genuinely wanted them to get together. Callie was strong, she was not being taken advantage of, and it was a circumstance of two consenting adults making a choice for what they both felt in their hearts.

The problem was that I didn’t feel the connection between them the way I wanted to. The pull was there, but I felt at any moment that one of them would walk away. They both seemed so scared that it would fall apart that I couldn’t relax into the relationship. I felt that it was too fragile for the entire book and that so much of the growth of emotions was glossed over. I wanted a deeper connection than I actually felt.

In addition, the last quarter of the book didn’t satisfy me the way I wanted it to. Without giving away the plot, this is a HEA. But personally I wanted more than I got.

This was my first book by Melissa Merino and I will absolutely check her out again. Her story was cute and her characters were engaging and endearing. I just wanted a different progression of the relationship than I got here, and I think that’s on me, not the author.

Review copy given with no expectations.

Man, I wanted to love this story so much. Taboo reads have become more interesting and fun to read. A nanny who falls in love with her older boss. It is the so close but cannot touch factor that is so hot. At the beginning it was really amazing. Then it totally sizzled out and here's why.

Calliope, our nanny, is almost done with school and is tired of working as a bartender waiting on horny frat boys. An opportunity to be a live-in nanny lands in her lap and she takes it without hesitation. If only she can keep her mind clean and her hands off her new boss- Aaron. Within a week or so they give into their passion and the rest is history.

They both are struggling with their own baggage, keeping their relationship a secret, balancing everything else and getting to know one another. The bulk of the book is basically sneaking kisses and sex from Delilah. Then going out either as a family or on dates with Calliope getting these extravagant gifts. It just got too sweet for me.

Neither one really talked about their past, baggage, or what they really want for the future. It was just the career for Callie and they want each other. And what Aaron got mad about, like seriously? He overreacted over....really nothing. And that it took months for him to apologize.

In the end, it had a great start then ran out of steam (not in the passion sense) but overall story that I could not really love. I was skimming pages just to get to the end. I might read the next one because everyone loves bad behavior!!

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.

This one left me kind of conflicted.

Typical nanny/daddy romance...the usual issues that come along with it.

There were so many components of the story that could've made things a heck of a lot easier on the H and h.

The reason for the events that happened in the last 20% of the book were just a bit of a pain in the ass for me and I felt like it was a mountain made of a molehill.

I also wasn't too pleased with the ending of the book but I guess it is what it is.

Still going to read the next book, though.

Aaron is the hot single dad who needs needs someone to help out with his daughter. Callie needs a better job to help her finish school. The attraction is there from the beginning but they both decided they can be professional. Of course that can't last when they're living together.

This was one of my favorites back in the fan fiction days. It has clearly been rewritten and I think the story is even better. A perfect combination of heat, humor, and heart. I absolutely loved it. There are some fantastic characters and I can't wait for the next two books!

Come rifiutare?

E, invece, io urlo a gran voce: leggetelo!

ARC REVIEW

So Twisted, the first book in Melissa Marino's Bad Behavior series is a cute story. I had a hard time getting into it because I normally stay away from alternating person POV, the beginning feels way too much like they are telling me instead of showing me; especially when it came to Aaron's former marriage. It was just kind of thrown out there right off the back, I felt like information overload and none of the emotion that went with it, I had a hard time trying to figure out why Aaron reacted the way he did because when he "remembered" everything at the very beginning of the book he didn't really show his reaction just his determination. It's not until at the end where it explains more. I couldn't justify Aaron's actions, I couldn't empathize with him because of it and ended up not really liking him. Callie on the other hand the opposite very open with her emotions with herself and I sided with her completely through the whole debacle.

Callie is going to school to be a teacher but to afford her tuition she has to work as a bartender in a sleezy-ish hook -up night club that is until her best friend Evelyn finds her the perfect job for her as a live in nanny for a well off business owner. There is instant chemistry between Aaron and Callie and they manage to hold off on acting on their feelings until after Callie goes on a date with Aaron's playboy brother Abel. Callie and Aaron's lives fall into a nice and easy pattern. Aaron starts trying to hard and moving way too fast for Callie. Callie just wants to please Aaron and in her fear of messing up and repeating whatever mistake his first wife made she started up a good friendship with Abel when ever she starts to freak about something Aaron did or said she uses Abel as a sounding board. Callie doesn't tell Aaron the she's good friends with his brother had when he finds out he (way) overreacts and kicks her out. Callie after some time of healing she becomes determined to do things for herself and not to please other people. Aaron realizes his mistake but is it to little too late to win Callie over.

Overall, it was sweet and the ending was pretty good. Delilah, Aaron's daughter, really stole the show.

4 Oh So Twisty and Sexy Stars

This was my first book by Ms. Marino and I really enjoyed this book immensely. Callie is a young woman working her way through school at the local twenty-something’s bar and it’s a less than desirable option but it’s all she’s got at the moment. That is until her bestie Evelyn puts a good word in for her to be a nanny to a single father client of her firm.

When Callie goes to Aaron’s house for the interview, the sparks were flying and Callie just didn’t know what to do with these feelings she was experiencing. She wanted the job desperately, but knew it could be dangerous if she was attracted to her boss.
“And it was the sexiest smile I had ever seen. It was handsomeness and joy mixed with something endearing. My skin tingled and a pit in my stomach formed. It was from nerves. It was from wanting something I knew I wasn’t going to get.”
Aaron on the other hand wanted to have her near him even though he knew it was wrong and could potentially lead to problems down the road because it was inevitable with two adults who are attracted to each other and out of necessity will be spending time together that signals were going to be sent. After Callie moved into to be his daughter Delilah’s nanny, little did he imagine exactly how much he was attracted to her, but more importantly it was clear she had feelings for him too….
“I heard her say my name as I passed by her room on the way to my own. When I stopped to listen for it again, I heard her moan softly, once…twice, followed by my name again.”
As Callie gets more and more enmeshed in their lives, as hard as they try to fight their growing attraction and feelings, the battle is too tough and they surrender. And oh what a surrender it was….talk about HOT!!! Just when it seems like life is really giving her everything her heart could desire, BOOM!!!

Things are said and done that cannot be forgotten or forgiven….or can they? Is love worth fighting for? Can the hurt from past relationships overshadow what could potentially be the best thing that’s ever happened to you? And how does the love of one little girl change both of their lives?

You’ll get all these questions answered and get a great read while doing it. I just love that I have a new author to follow and can’t wait to read more of her words!

This was probably a 3-star book for me until the last 20% or so. Unfortunately, it pissed me off so much that it kind of ruined the rest of the book for me.

One thing I really appreciated was that it dealt with the potential issues of a man dating his nanny (the employer/employee dynamic) pretty openly. I also appreciated that Callie needs some space because the relationship was moving too quickly for her. I feel like that doesn't happen so much in romance novels--time is often compressed and the jump from meeting to HEA can be days or weeks. The problem is that I thought Aaron was so out of line with how he treated Callie at the time of their break-up that I never quite warmed up to him even after the grovelling and such. I felt the conflict was too contrived, and that they had gone too far in how much they hurt each other, to really have a HEA. Plus, they were broken up for a LONG TIME (several months) and it just draaaaagged itself out. And then, boom! In a handful of pages, they date for a few months and everything is all rosy again. This really didn't work for me, sorry. I may give the next one in this series a try, but I'll wait for the reviews first.

I received a copy of this on NetGalley for an honest review. And boy, is this going to be honest. This is what I posted on facebook (spoilers):

Just finished a romance novel that romanticized a "hero" who had violent mood swings, stops taking his antianxiety medication when he falls in love, and tosses the heroine out after accusing her of cheating in him. With his brother. But don't worry, guys, he goes to 4 months of therapy and he's better now so they get back together. Anyway I do not recommend So Twisted by Melisssa Marino unless you're into romanticized abusive relationships.

I love grumpy billionaire tropes (look at the stuff I read!) so that's not my problem. My problem is the normalization of an emotionally abusive relationship. THIS IS NOT OK. Lovers do not treat each other like that. And the only voice of reason in the entire book is shown saying I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE TAKING HIM BACK and then we literally never hear from her again.

I love a great single parent story. Single dad's just make my heart swoon. This debut novel brings in all the feels. A jilted single dad needs a nanny. The nanny gets referred by a meddling roommate and sparks fly from the first interview. Add in an adorable little girl and this is a perfect read!

I liked that it wasn't an easy ride for these two. They had baggage to work through. I also didn't quite get the taboo-ness that everyone was touting. It wasn't as if Aaron was married at the time of their falling in love. Yes Callie worked for him but I thought they made that divide much bigger than it had to be.

Loved Aaron's brother. Hopefully we will get to see more of him sometime. Light adorable read. Happy to welcome this author to the publishing world!

Gosh, I am SO proud of my friend and newly minted author Melissa Marino for this debut of hers! I dove into the story of Callie and Aaron knowing it would be good–but Melissa blew me away! I laughed a lot more than I expected, given this is a steamy romance novel. That’s in large part because Mel made Callie so relatable and quick-witted (there’s a Georgia O’Keeffe reference that made me LOL in particular!)

A college-aged nanny falling for the father of the child she’s been tasked to look after, So Twisted is a fantasy that Mel’s readers can easily believe in/root for its characters/maybe even wish upon themselves. Bonus points for it being set in the Midwest (Chicago)! I can’t wait to see what she releases next!

The best part of this story is Delilah, Aaron's cutie-pie daughter. She brought humor and love to a story that really lacked both! I hated that Aaron made Callie pay for his ex-wife's deceitful selfishness. Aaron knew what it felt like to be rejected and kicked to the curb especially when you have done nothing wrong. So how could he turn around and do the same thing to Callie and utterly decimate her heart? And then have the nerve to expect her to ignore her broken heart and forgive him? Really???

I don't think Aaron will ever understand the mind of his woman, "I rolled my eyes. “You sucked my ***k first thing in the morning, and you’re worried about your breath?” Aaron sure could get frisky at times, “I’ll go get ready,” she said. And just because I couldn’t help myself, I slapped her perfect *** as she started walking away." I loved this book, I loved Aaron and I loved Aaron's brother Abel I'm hoping a future book is in store for him.

I love single dad stories and I enjoyed So Twisted.

I think the pace is too fast though, borderline insta-love, which is not something I enjoy. And even though I liked the characters I didn't connect as much with them as I wished. They relationship felt wrong (and not in a "good" way) to me.

I also missed a bigger "conflit", the stoey built up and the result didn't follow it.

I did enjoy it though, I wish there was more at the wnd, but it was a good story.

Come rifiutare?

Oh my goodness, I have found a new author to stalk!! I'm not going to lie here. I am a hard sell on a lot of new authors. A description of a book has to really catch me. And even then a lot of the time I find that it takes me a long time to get into a book. This one however, had me hook, line, and sinker. I was really drawn in from the very first chapter. Aaron, single daddy (HOTTIE ALERT) to sweet little Delilah needs a nanny and hires Callie. And that is where the awesomeness begins. The heat and chemistry between these two is enough to make you need a cold shower. I am seriously in love with Aaron although, he did get on my bad side for a minute but was definitely redeemed in my eyes. My one and only complaint and the only reason it is not a 5 star read is because I felt like the end was just a tad rushed. I would have liked a little more. Maybe a little epilogue and I would have been singing 5++ stars. But again, that really is the only complaint I have. Everything else about this book I LOVED. It will definitely go on my shelf as a reread. I am so looking forward to what this author puts out next.
