Road to Redemption #1

Jackson Stiles, Road to Redemption

Rate this book
Jackson Stiles is used to having bad days, but they’ve been especially bad since a certain tabloid reporter seems to have it out for him.

Emma Green doesn’t mean any harm. She simply sees it as her duty to report the misdeeds of certain Private Detectives who charge too much in a society where people need more superheroes and less villains; something even Jackson has convinced himself he deserves to be called, deep in his gut.

When the two of them realize they’re investigating the same suspicious circumstances, Emma makes Jackson an offer he only wishes he could refuse. But can the man who trusts no one allow the one woman he can’t stand help him get to the bottom of a murder he feels responsible for?

Exposed and unsure, these two unexpected allies come together to unmask the mysteries cloaked in plain sight while uncovering secrets within each other. A lost soul and a seeker of truth travel down the road to redemption and discover more than they bargained for.

Warning: this book contains strong language, sex, lies, conspiracy, murder, and sarcastic banter between characters.

Jackson Stiles is a Private Investigator in a town called Redemption.
It's my job to find the bad guys,
take them in, and get paid.

He is a man hard on the edges, who doesn't trust anyone but his own gut, a man closed off with issues from the past, filled with guilt and self-deprication, and sarcasm takes everyday as „one more“ to add in a long line of days to scratch off. Recluse from his family, unwilling to let anyone in, fighting with anxiety, unsettled and unresolved issues with his father and brother in a generations of cops, his own self-depraved feeling of guilt/failure only intensifies his outside posture of cold, cocky, sarcastic bastard with danger lingering/edgy modus operandi will be shaken and stirred when one of his rutine jobs ends up wrong and the outcome of it bugs him to the point of starting his own investigation.

The unlikely person who will jump in to help him is a bold, sassy, smart and „all present“ local tabloid reporter, Emma Green who is on her own chase for the exclusive story while she's trying to figure out her own disclosed issues.

And just the spice things up, there's a huge amount of animosity between them. It is vivid and well, being Jackson, the way he is, doesn't help to smooth the situation either. The banter between them is priceless but it will all slowly change as they learn to open up and develop the much needed trust
“A „thank you“ and „I'm sorry“ in one night.
I don't know what to say, Stiles.“

while they are faced „alone“ in the upcoming events that will make the muddy waters come rushing in.

With Jackson's instinct and hunch, hightened with almost recless boldness
“You know that old saying about curiosity killing the cat?
Well, if I was a cat, I'd be dead right about now.“

collected clues and Emma's insightful wit and deductive skills, it will lead them on a road of covered up and staged murders, corruption, betrayal and conspiracy rising from the inside ranks of the Redemption Police Force towards the political scenery of greed, treachery and devious mascarade.

While on this dangerous, uncertain path of discovering the truth behind the lies, being close together, it's inevitable for them not to feel the alluring chemistry and temptation, filled with an adrenaline rush, the pull of projected thrill of life threathining situation will not only make them discover the ultimate truth but their own curtains and masks will fall as they find out that nothing is what it seems and that there's so much more beyond the carnal and physical attraction they feel towards each other...

but that is only a little scratch beneath the surfice...
“I'm goddamn crazy about you.“
„I – „
„I. Give. A. Shit. About. You.“
„I –„
„Deal with it.“

and it's merely a beginning...

All I can say is, that I have been really lucky with received ARCs lately, cause every single one of them was a huge winner for me, so I am ecstatic to say that this book will be added into my "BEST in 2016" book shelf.

Jo Richardson is a totally new author to me, and, in my humble opinion, she has written this remarkable action packed story filled with suspense, thrill of a mystery with fantastically portrayed characters with humorous, witty, sarcastic banters and dialoges that keep you on the edge in expectation that only deepens in detailed development of a storyline.

I enjoyed it immensely and it will stay with me for a very long time....as i am affected...by everything...every single thing in the story and the story itself....

I Applaud you, Jo Richardson!

Fantastically entertaining read you don't want to miss out on.

I was lucky to get a peek at this before it went in to editing and wow blew me away. This is Jo's wheelhouse. This is also not or was never fanfiction. It has elements of a fanfic character she wrote years ago but the entire story is a complete original fiction including all the characters. Will review closer to release date.

Jackson Stiles—I have no idea where to start with this review. The book itself is well written, highly entertaining and fast paced. The characters are well developed, the dialogue is witty and at times LOL funny. The way his constant thought process is woven into the pages makes the book a different, interesting read. All in all, very enjoyable.
But there is more.
The main character, Jackson is an onion. The layers Jo Richardson has created, make him a mystery—even to himself. Watching him discover who he really is—the man he refused to admit ever existed, was so much fun. He appears, on the surface, to be everything anyone who knows him believes him to be—basically a dick with no feelings for anyone but himself. He is opinionated, rigid, foul-mouthed, and refuses to trust anyone or care about anything.
He abhors all things conventional, lives only for the here and now, and has no problem expressing himself. Estranged from his family, no friends to speak of, he lives a solitary life.
Except for the stray cat he cares for. Then the kid he decides to help. And the reporter he begins to worry about.
Slowly but surely, his inner depths are revealed, a great story unfolds, and the real Jackson Stiles emerges.
Don’t get me wrong—he is still cocky, foul-mouthed, and a pain in the ass.
But what an ass.
What a book.

The sarcastic banter was by far my favorite between Emma and Jackson. Emma was the one person, woman that Jackson could not stand. Until the day an offer was made and allies they became. Through it all they found a connection.

Jackson was the rough, raw, oh-so-male, dirty talker with attitude and snarky banter bad boy with a chip on his shoulders. Emma was more sassy that brass and the tenacity of a pitbull. She had her eyes set on the prize. More of a prize than any one person would think. She found that Jackson was on the same trial. She strikes a bargain and just maybe got a lot more than she anticipated receiving.

This was a fast pace, high impact, drama, mystery, suspense, and hilarious romance. This was a whirlwind of entertainment running different end of the spectrum depending on what part of the read you were in. There was no let down. Just page after page of it all. What is next on the Road to Redemption?

Jackson Stiles, Road to Redemption is the story of a bounty hunter/Private Detective, with a whole lot of issues and baggage and a conscience that is a lot more active than he actually believes it so!

What do a renegade cop turned bounty hunter or Private Detectives and a straight shooter with a flair of dramatics have in common? Not much really, except a murder that shouldn’t have even happened and an attraction that somehow sneaks up on them.

Told in the POV of Jackson Stiles, it is one twist after the other that held more conspiracy in his small town than he could have actually believed to be possible. Support comes from the unlikeliest form of ally in Emma Green; the one reporter who lambasted him in one of her articles and is not exactly his favourite person in the world! But he really has no choice when faced with the stubborn wall that is his nemesis!

This is one of the few books that I have read that is all MALE POVE – you don’t get those books a whole lot; especially in the romance genre – so just for that reason it would have been a treat to read this – but what made it better was that the writing was phenomenal! The plot was intricate and had me hooked in right from the start – the disgruntled family times, the angsty conscious of the hero, the twisty plot lines, the induction of amazing secondary characters and a plot that had me guessing at every single turn!

What was also definitely fun was Jackson and Emma’s relationship – you see a transformation of supposed hate to colleagues to definitely falling for each other! There is this singular connection between these two that pops out to the reader from the first moment that they meet each other in the book!

Road to Redemption was a single sitting read for me – and my only issue with this book was that “I” did not know that this is NOT a standalone. No, there is no cliffhanger at the end; but there are a whole lot of loose threads from the foundation plot line to the characters themselves that I believe are going to be taken care of in the next book – so even though it wasn’t the “UGGHH” ending I have read, I am still going to antsy till the next book releases!

AH-MAZING! That's what I say about Jackson Stiles. He's every bit gritty, raw, and downright dirty talking. He's got an attitude that is unmatched. He's snarky, funny, but under all of his attitude lies a heart of gold.

Jackson Stiles is a PI who has no qualms in doing the dirty work he's paid to do. He takes pride in the fact that he's helping clean up the streets of Redemption, but when a case lands in his lap that isn't all that it seems, Jackson can't let go of the intrigue.

Add in to the mix a tabloid reporter, Emma Green, who seems to have it out for Jackson, and you get a chemistry that is hot off the presses.

If you want a fast paced, hilarious book that will keep you stuck in your seat afraid to stop reading because you don't want to miss what happens next, well, this my friend, is the book for you!

5+++++ stars!! All the way!!

3 stars!!! I hate you, I love you...we all love one of those...hate to love, mortal enemies until they weren't, private investigator, journalist. I loved the sarcastic banter between these two, for me that was the highlight of this book. Enemies to lovers though always has that power to combust a kindle and these two also delivered in that department. There was a lot crammed into this book and sometimes I felt it was too much.

Jackson is a PI who is one of the best at capturing the hard to catch. Emma Green is a reporter who bothers him to no end. They soon find themselves working together and soon Jackson realizes he isn't as bothered by her as he thought. While investigating a crime he feels is his fault they seem to be thrown together at every turn. Now they are on the search for the truth behind the crime and about themselves.

Honestly, when this book started I wasn't really into it much, but I soon got drawn into the story and was glad I continued reading it. As far as characters go, it took me a little while to warm up to Jackson. He seems a bit arrogant, but he also has a need for the truth. As the story progressed I really enjoyed the story and grew to like the characters and yes I finally got around to liking Jackson. This book was packed full of action and intrigue. It was fast paced and from beginning to end it was a mystery. I never knew what was coming around the corner, and to me, that is what makes a good book....Stormi

This has to be one of the best male points of view I've ever read. From the start Jackson Stiles has a unique and compelling voice, and you can't help but be drawn in by his straight-talking, no-nonsense stance. And of course he's sexy, too. Something that intrepid reporter Emma Green can't fail to notice, even though she hates Jackson. And he hates her... doesn't he?

Before long the two of them are embroiled in a mystery involving murdered kids and a drug scene out of control. And though they're wary of each other, they team up to investigate the disappearances, and a whole lot more, thanks to the insane chemistry between them.

I loved this book from start to finish. The characters were fantastic, the world building was off the scale, and the mystery kept me hooked from start to finish. I hope this isn't the last we see of Jackson and Emma, I think the two of them have much more to say!

Jackson Stiles is a very intriguing and fun character. His wit and no-filter, smart mouth will have you laughing and cringing at the same time. Jackson Stiles is a walking contradiction. He's cocky but insecure, he's rough around the edges but a softy on the inside. He's good at what he does and goes after what he wants, but he's still trying to overcome the guilt and loss of his past.

Road to Redemption was a fun book to read. The characters and endearing, the plot is original and solid, and it keeps you wanting more. The book is full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has not read it, but it is not for the faint of heart. Be ready for a bumpy ride!

Jackson Stiles , he's full of himself , or you think he is. This book is written from his PoV and it's not pretty, hot , yes the sexual content is very male but his rude, vulgar, hungover, self pitying bad language? Yes all of the above in spades is intriguing and strangely addictive .

I started out shocked and wondering if he had any redeeming characteristics but by the end I was rooting for him and Emma . The suspense in the form of murders and deceit is wonderfully dark and twisting , I had no idea who was behind it all.

Emma, fells she should expose the arrogant , drunk cigarette smoking PI for who he is, but they soon realise they need to help each other if they are to catch the murderer. This isn't a book I would routinely read but I loved it

LOVED Jackson!! I was lucky and received this book early from the author. I absolutely love her writing and this book is probably one of my favorites from her now. It is fast paced and touches on so many elements; there's humor, drama, mystery and of course the falling in love factor. When I began to read it i thought I would read a couple of chapters before bed. I believe it was 3 hours later when I made myself put it down. It sucks you in and makes you want to read it in one sitting.

Jackson Stiles was highly entertaining read. It was fast paced and very well written. I devoured this book in one sitting. It's full of drama, mystery, humour and romance as well as a few surprises. The characters, PI Jackson and Tabloid Reporter Emma were well developed and their banter had me laughing out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Such a great story

Loved this book, I don't write reviews very often, but this story was awesome. A lot of cussing but it fit the characters and storyline. I truly hope this becomes a series. I'm off to hopefully find more by this author, its rare for me to find a writing style I like so much!

What a pleasant surprise.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this book as it’s not what I would ‘normally’ pick straight away. I rarely read a novel told by a male POV but I thoroughly enjoyed it !!

The laid back style of writing was so welcoming and entertaining it was very enjoyable. The plot is well thought out and developed and Jackson is the bad boy we all love to hate. He is charming in his own ways, damaged by his past but of course has a soft spot for a certain smart mouth reporter.

I enjoyed the twist and turns, I was left shocked by a couple abs found myself holding my breathe trying to find out the truth. What I liked most is that the characters are realistic and charismatic in their own ways. The important thing is that this novel had me giggling, and gasping and I was fully entertained.

I would have liked a bit more character development on all sides, but towards the end we started getting back stories for a few essential characters which tied up a few things.

I am looking forward to book 2 and hope to continue the story of Jackson Stiles, he has caught my heart strings and I want to see what he does next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review.

Wow that Jackson Stiles, he's raw and rough. He really has an unparalleled attitude, but beneath his attitude lies a heart of gold. As we say here; a big mouth, but a small heart. Jackson Stiles is a PI who has no qualms about doing the dirty work he's paid for. He takes pride in helping to clean up the streets of Redemption, but when a case lands on his lap, it often doesn't seem like what it is and Jackson can't let go of the plot. Add in a tabloid reporter (Emma Green) and you've got a mix of you got yours there and that chemistry that is between them ....... is hot off the press. If you want a quick, hilarious book that keeps you on the edge of the seat and afraid to stop reading because you don't really want to miss what happens next ... well this is the book for you!

This is a hidden gem of a book. There are so many good Indie writers who just never get into the spotlight and this release definitely deserves a spot on centre stage.

This is a PI book of the hard-boiled variety. It spins an intriguing tale about corruption that makes the bad guys look like good guys! It had more than just 1 twist in the road and I would have seen them all coming if I could keep up (and if I was as cunning as the author).

It had me shouting at the characters on more than one occasion- trying to offer my advice. Rarely does a book get under my skin like that!

If you like hard boiled PI’s with more than one flaw you will love this book - just like I do and did.

I love finding new authors to read, and thanks to #QuirkyBlindDate I have found another new author.

I loved the characters, the story pretty much everything about this story. This author gives readers great characters, Jackson has so many layers that it was fun reading getting to know him. Each layer that was peeled away made me love him more I think. I look forward to reading more from this author for sure!

This book wasnt what I expected, but it was really good. Lots of drama. Lots of mystery. Sometimes confusing. However good detective stories are like that.

Would I recommend? Sure
Would I reread? Sure
BOOK Hangover? Somewhat. I wish there were more to this story. I love the characters.
Stand alone or series? Stand alone but I'd like more.

“Jackson Stiles, Road to Redemption “ by Jo Richardson was an eye popping suspense police procedural. Stiles is a private detective who hails from a police family. His family is disfuncional with Stiles having major issues with his alcoholic father and the death of his younger brother, Mickey. Stiles is working on a murder case involving juveniles, drug dealers, crooked officials and a hard-nose reporter, Emma Green.
I liked the characters a lot, but I was confused sometimes by the story line. I got lost and had to re-read some pages twice to understand where the narrative was going. I don’t know whether this was from Stiles’ inter dialogue or from the author’s writing style. The story could have been more crisp and cleaner with the editing. This is why I didn’t give it five stars. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.

This book was given to me for an honest review

4 stars

All I can say this was not what I expected. It was much much more. I loved that it was fast paced and kept me entertained the whole time I read it. It reels you in at the beginning and doesn't let go of you until the end and even then you want more, much, much more. It had me laughing at times and not just a giggle it was a full blown laugh as my kids are looking at me and saying that I was crazy. I didn't have one of these books for a long time and I am so glad that I found this book. I want so much more from this author. You had such a good mystery in this book that you were so drawn to each character and you looked for anything to be able to figure out the whodunit. Now how this got even more interesting is not only did you get to read a book, you actually lived the conversations in the book. It was like it was like you were part of the story. You got to see it through Jackson's eyes and let me say, wow I didn't know an author to be able to do that. How you write a book is a beautiful thing, but when you can write in a way that I have never read before its even better. There are only so many ways to tell you how much I loved this book, but it will never do it justice.

Jackson Stiles is an arrogant PI. He thinks he can do no wrong and he travels a thin line of right and wrong. When of one of his cases makes he feel something is going on and he does nothing, things start to fall apart. Now he is looking for something to solve this case even if he has to walk on the dangerous side of things. Jackson makes me laugh, even writing this. Just his interaction in this book was just awesome. He plays with danger and well he does it so well. But with any arrogant man comes in the girl that throws his life upside down with a turn of a switch. Emma just wants the truth and she will do what it takes to find it even if she has to deal with Jackson. The banter in this book was so much fun. These two were made for each other. I loved the back and forth and the chemistry of the book.

It is a fast paced book and keeps you thoroughly entertained all the way the through the book. You just want more the whole time. You will be able to finish this in one sitting, and you will want to. That is how invested you will get in this book. First time reading this author and all I can say is that I'm downloading any book that is written. I am so glad I found this great read.
