Declan and Alyssa have been best friends since they were kids. When they were teens, they crossed the line from friendship to romance. This was for both of them very beautiful but also extremely tricky. They explored their passion for one another and their relationship blossomed. Declan proved to be a talented young race car driver with a bright future ahead. Alyssa didn’t share the same love for car racing with him. The difference of their career aspirations and dreams were the reason for the split.
I liked how quickly the story developed and then maintained that fast pace. Their love story is a little bland but overall it was a nice, light read with a creative plot and likeable characters. The story will hold your interest.

This novella introduces us to Declan Reede and Alyssa Dawson, best friends since they were kids. As the intro to this new series that provides the backstory for these two, we get the young love story filled with a boy with dreams and a girl that doesn’t quite understand what it means to him in order to fulfill them.

As Declan and Alyssa grow up, fall in love and fall apart, the stage is set for this young ambitious race and surely what will be the fight to get the one that got a way back.

I found myself eager to know what is going to come of these two as they progress through life and I really need to know this. Although this was fairly short and YAish, I have a feeling that will all change as we get the older versions of these characters.

This was my first read by Michelle Irwin and I think I’m going to have to check out what else she has out there after finishing this one.

Sometimes a girl has to come first and Alyssa holds her man by the balls and isn't afraid to use ultimatums, “well, it sure feels like it. Come back tomorrow, Dec, or don’t bother coming back at all.” She slid the window shut , yanked the curtains closed, and ignored my attempts to coerce her back to talk some more." Declan knew how to give his woman a compliment, "with a chuckle, I pulled on my shorts. “It’s a damn sight more impressive when you work your magic on me.” Um... I'm hoping there's another book coming I didn't like the ending, especially with how it ended I didn't like where the characters were. I'm looking forward to see what comes next for Alyssa and Declan.

4 YOUNG LOVE STARS!!!
This book is an introduction novella to the "Declan Reede: The Untold Story Series" which is told in Declan's POV (which I love by the way). An easy read book that made me reminisce my younger years and to my young love with a smile on my face and a "Where is he now btw?". Reminiscing the past aside,
The story introduces us with Declan and Alyssa. Two friends who practically grew up together . The friendship turned to dating after that "kiss" they shared one afternoon in their favorite spot in the park. They may be best of friends and practically dating at that, but both have different plans and dreams for the future which results to the roller coaster ride of their relationship. This made it difficult which left Dylan to decide, will it be his career or the love they both shared?
"What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from." - T.S. Eliot
What a fantastic introduction! The words and story line were written incredibly. As I said it was and easy read, but an easy read that will keep you hooked right from the start and will keep you wanting for more. What I love about it the most is that, the author have written the story without sugar coating it. From when the time Alyssa's family moved to Queensland from South Wales to the day of their first day of school where Declan picked her for their team which started their friendship and their each other's firsts. Not just first love but also first heartbreak.
This story is a must read. To think that it is my first Michelle Irwin book, I know I will be looking forward to her other works.
Great work! DECLINE you're ON!

I am really of two minds about this prequel. I am hooked into Declan's story and looking forward to where he is going next but I think the female lead, Alyssa, is just a flat-out, teenaged, self-absorbed bitch. I get that she has no interest in racing and that is ok, but her lack of respect for something that is obviously so important to the boy she is supposedly in love with makes me dislike her. I hate that. If a man tried to control me or pooh-poohed something I was passionate about the way she does to Declan he would be quickly shown the door.

The writing in this book is good and the storytelling is compelling. I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens now Declan is moving forward in his racing career. I am hoping that Alyssa is completely out of the picture and Declan moves on or alternatively she does some serious growing up and stops being a demanding, controlling, narcissistic bitch.

I was really looking forward to reading this series. Lately, I’ve reading more and more sports romances and loving it. They have so much excitement and always give me an adrenaline rush reading the scenes.

So, since I found the whole series free on Amazon, I was really excited to start.

This book is listed as a spin-off but after reading it, o can’t imagine starting the series without it. It has a background story that I find really necessary for understanding Declan, his decision and their relationship. The title really agrees with the story, since Declan has to make a decision in the end.

About the characters... I connected with Declan and his ambition to race professionally. And, although I really liked how Alyssa was strong, had a good head and always said her mind, she was really judgmental towards Declan’s dream. I understand she didn’t know anything about the sport or liked it much, but she should at least be supportive for him, since she loves him so much. It was annoying seeing her try to change his mind, even though I believe he wouldn’t do the same to her.

Anyway... I really enjoyed the drama behind it all and the cliffhanger left me wanting to continue the series. I know they have a long road ahead and I can’t wait to see what’ll happen. #GoDeclan!

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

This is the first book I have read by this author. I love how she was able to write it from Declan’s point of view, let alone a teenage boy.

The story takes place in Australia, so prepare to familiarize yourself with the local dialect.

Declan and Alyssa have been best friends since they were young, then one day while playing a game of cards as they usually do, thing change when a kiss happens.

Their parents are not surprised that they are finally dating, but the last two years of high school are not easy and their relationship experiences many ups and downs.

Alyssa doesn’t believe in Declan’s dream of being a race car driver and compete in the ProV8 Championship Series.

She finds cars and racing boring and thinks he should got to college first so he has a back up when racing doesn’t happen.

To Declan he wants to race while he is young and has the opportunity and not become rusty while in college. What will Declan decide to do, follow his racing dream or be with the girl he loves?

This wasn’t your typical boy and girl that are friends from kids that cross over to become more than friends in a sense that things are not easy for them and they have many break-ups and don’t see their futures the same.

It is the start of a series and we get to know Declan and Alyssa in their younger years. Where the story is going to go, I can’t wait to find out.

REVIEW

Let me begin by saying I have read a few books by this author and they just keep getting better. In this short but sweet story we have Declan a young boy who is best friends with a girl his neighbor Alyssa.
All through elementary school and primary school, these two are inseparable. Then when they hit about 15 or so years old things start to change between them. They share their first real kiss and from there they are on again off again as boyfriend / girlfriend. Declan’s father keeps putting in his sons ear that if he is serious about his racing future he needs to leave Alyssa alone because one day she will make him choose. However, Declan does not believe that considering Alyssa was his best friend before anything else and she knows how he feels about racing. But in time Declan sees a change in Alyssa and it’s not a good change and she has now given him an ultimatum her or the racing.

What will Declan do? Will this be the end of their friendship and relationship?

Fantastic short story and I cannot wait to read more in this upcoming series.

I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review.

Firstly I would like to thank the lovely Michelle for kindly providing me with a copy of "Decide" to read and review, this is my first time reading anything by her and I enjoyed it

In this short novella, we meet bad boy-boy racer Declan Reede, we follow him in trying to fulfil his dreams and wishes of becoming a ProV8 driver....what he doesn't think about it girls those? One in particular...

Things start to take a strange turn in the term "friendship" between Declan and Alyssa, friendship turns into lust. Lust turns into feelings, and feelings turns into Love...

But what happens when you don't share the same dreams and aspirations as the other.

Can a relationship survive?

Unfortunately Declan is left to decide what he wants the most – a girlfriend or a career in driving?.

I'm very much looking forward to more in this series!

This was a great start to a love story starting as childhood friends. Declan and Alyssa experience first with each other , kiss, sex, and heart break. What do you do when the one thing you want is not what's best for you at first, well that's what happen with Alyssa and Declan they both wanted a future together and they still do but Declan wants to make a better future for Alyssa and if pushing her away is what it takes so bid, cause a future with her is perfect but it's what he wants in the order see wants, can they survive. loved it looking forward to seeing what happens next.

A short blast into the life and loves of a teenage boy , with all the angst ridden hormones and tedious grown up hampering the absolute mission that you have set you mind on and believe me when I say that Declan is most definitely on a mission.
When his feelings for his best friend Alyssa finally move from mates to something more, or as more as you are going to get for a pair of 15year olds, the path of young love was never going to run smooth!
Like typical teenagers they changed their relationship status like most of us change socks but they always gravitated back to each other – but with the huge step into responsibility and their futures looming over them they were faced with the fact that potentially they were heading in different directions.
Alyssa was determined to go to university but further education held no desire for Declan his heart lay with his beloved motorsport and when an opportunity to race for his hero’s team opens up for him, the choice for him was never in doubt but what did that mean for his relationship with Alyssa?
The story was one that shows just how much it takes to follow your dream, the determination and confidence it takes to stand up for what you know in your heart to be right for you.
Declan was a single minded young man but one that didn’t hide the way he felt, not about his racing, his plans for the future or about the way he felt for Alyssa. Alyssa on the other hand was no shrinking violet, she too had a future planned out in her head that she was not ready to deviate from
But this was really life for them, this wasn’t a world where they could have it all, they had decisions that they had to make and circumstances that would shape their futures.
They had outside influences that were critical to their current state of mind but jut show much could they be swayed? And was the pressure that was brought to bear really in their best interests?
There are events afoot that are not entirely what they seem, I am sure.
This was a delightful introduction to a thoroughly delightful young man and I am looking forward to reading more of his story in the next book in the series

From childhood, Declan and Alyssa were best of friends. They spent so much time at one another's homes that their parents may just as well have shared joint custody. They did everything together, so the day that they realized there was more to their feelings than just friendship was inevitable. That day they were playing cards at their table in the park and before they knew it they were kissing. Alyssa's brother Josh interrupted that intimate moment when he came to collect Alyssa for dinner, much to his surprise. Before Declan let her leave, he asked Alyssa to be his girlfriend and she agreed. Though at 15 they didn't really understand the meaning.

There relationship developed as they did. Becoming a turbulent ride of on again-off again. As graduation grew nearer they both were starting to dream of what would come after high school. Alyssa had always wanted to go to Uni and Declan's life-long dream had always been racing Pro-V8. Declan dreamed of racing for Sinclair's elite Holden team since he was a young boy starting out in karting. When the day came that he met THE Danny Sinclair, his dreams came true. Danny wanted him to come race for him, pending the passing of all the tests and signing the contract. This caused some issues between Declan and Alyssa; she wanted him to attend Uni with her first and have a fallback plan but he knew he would lose his edge if he didn't go straight into racing.

The love that Declan and Alyssa shared could be the undoing of the both of them, or it could be exactly what they each needed. They had to figure out what would be best and where to go next. Will they be able to overcome the odds and make a real go of things or does life have other ideas for their futures? You must read the story to find out because I'm not telling!

What a tantalizing taste of the begining of Declan Reede's story. I was instantly drawn in, enthralled, captivated with the mind of Declan... it's not every day you get to read the thought's of a teenage boy, which I found I could strangly relate. We are all teenagers at one point in our lives. I loved Michelle's use of all things Australiana, it's wonderful to read about things in your own country. Who in Australia doesn't get a kick out of watching Bathurst in October??

Declan & Alyssa's on again, off again relationship, is like a rollercoster ride, but I could imagine with all the teenage hormones rearing things would be more emotional than normal. I found Declan's complete enthrallment with Alyssa through those troubling teen years to be fun to read, bringing back my own teenage years. But also Declan's dream is forever in the forefront of his mind, always trying to convince Alyssa that his dream can come true & he doesn't need anything to fall back on. Whereas Allyssa was the type of female lead you could definitely learn to love, but really teenage yearsare never fun for anyone, so she wasn't able to do any justice there. Don't get me wrong at times I did love her, I also loved Declan's character at times too, but at other times... I just wanted to smack their heads together.

Michelle has written an AMAZINGLY TANTALISING start to her new series "Declan Reede: The Untold Story" (HOW did Michelle get inside a teenage boys mind so well??)... I can't wait to read what happens next for Declan, I also HOPE Alyssa comes back, especially with the ending I just read (doesn't make me like Declan to much)... aaarrrggghh I have a love/hate relationship I think with Declan.

SO GOOD!!

Gah! Teenage love is CRAY CRAY! Like, srsly for realz. Y'all remember high school? Because y'all, Michelle does SUCH a good job at painting it so picture perfectly. Rollercoaster emotions, bad decisions, HORMONES. Then it's Michelle, so of course she tosses in a total WTF end that I'm learning to expect from her, so you NEED the next book immediately. Luckily, this series is finished, and already downloaded to my kindle. #ConvenientAF #GuessWhatImDoingWhenIWakeUp

In reading this book, I was reminded of something, bit of advice if you will. It seems like obvious advice, but I'm gonna share it with you anyway. Because I do what I want. If there's a series, and also a spinoff series, I recommend reading the original series before the spinoff series. See, I, through a random string of events, started reading the spinoff series first (it's AMAZING, don't skip it) and now I'm reading this, the original series, and it's WEIRD. Like, not sorta strange, weird AF. Challenging to wrap my head around. I'm not gonna go into any details, because spoilers, but trust me, it's straight up mind boggling.

Please note: Katie, of the wonderfully amazing blog Just Another Girl and Her Books, firmly insisted I read this book, as part of a shenanigating feud. This is noteworthy, because I just got to reference a shenanigating feud, and it brought me great joy. :-D

Decide Declan Reede: The Untold True Story is a book that will leave you desperate to get your hand on the next book in the series. Michelle Irwin's story of Declan Reede a young man who has high aspirations of becoming a racing driver perfectly sets up the series. We meet Declan as a teenager, hanging out with he best friend since childhood Alyssa Dawson. When the friendship changes after a kiss, the two decide to date. The kiss sets into motion a relationship not short of its up and downs, as well as teenage hormones and angst. From one page and chapter to the next, you are kept on your toes, wondering what's going to happen with these two. Do thy have what it takes to make it, pick up Decide and see for yourself.

Michelle Irwin does a great job with the first book in this series. Declan and Alyssa are two character you'll love and scream at the next wanting them to see past what's going on. Michelle perfectly captures the highs and lows of the teenage heart and emotion perfectly as she transports you to Declan and Alyssa's world in Australia. Decide has some great twists and an ending that will leave you wanting more. If you want a New Adult book that will hook you from the beginning, check out Decide by Michelle Irwin.

~~~~~~~~~~Sharlene's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Declan and Alyssa are high school sweethearts that have a tumultuous relationship. Back and forth, on again/off again, up and down - that's the best way to explain them. Told strictly from Declan's POV, the story is an easy read. It has all the hormonal, angsty feelings that you expect from teenagers. Scenery description was a little lacking but the sexual descriptions make up for it some what. Yes, there is sex between teenagers involved here. So if you have issues with that topic, I would skip this book all together. Not a lot of surprises here either. It pretty much went the way I thought it would. The writing is still good though and I did enjoy the story.
This book has a huge cliffhanger at the end BUT the next book in the series is already out. So, if you get this one then buy the next one as well so you can finish the story.
I would recommend this book to any one over 18, as someone else said how Michelle manages to get inside the head of a young man and spin a yarn like she had is purely magically and I am not talking paranormal with this one.
Michelle took me back to high school! Ugh!
Declan Reede is an arrogant kid. He has a dream and he wants to live it. Then he falls for his childhood friend and wants her too.
Alyssa Dawson is a feisty teenage girl who, let’s admit, we can see pieces of ourselves in. She has her own ideas of how things should be. They include having Declan in her life.
They seem to race ahead only to spin out of control before braking hard to stop the wheels from turning. Before you know it, things are back on track and racing forward again. Every turn seems to bring new drama. It’s an endless circle that bends and twists, but who is in the driver seat?
The two of them reminded me so much of my high school years that it made me so very happy to be past all of it. The back and forth, the misunderstandings, the name calling, the hook-ups, and the break-ups.
Good beginning to give insight into the history of, and what’s to come from, these two. Bring it on Declan! Tell me more!
I was given an ARC of this story for an honest review. This is the prequel to Decide. It is the whole beginning of Declan and Alyssa’s relationship. They are in their last year of high school and are trying to come to terms with what they want in their future. Declan is bound and determined to be the youngest Pro-V8 champion in the history of the sport and Alyssa is wanting to go to uni and have a family. Their lives change in just one night. It goes from the best night ever to the worst night ever all because of words that should not have been said. Can this relationship work? Will they be able to come back together or will their life be torn apart forever?
This was a very interesting book. I was unsure of my reaction to this because I am much older than the main characters, but I was able to put that aside and enjoy the book. I would like to see where this story goes. Good, solid start.
Loved this book, as its a novella I read it pretty quickly. I felt like it explains the relationship between Declan and Alyssa.
It's a story of two friends growing up together and taking their friendship to the next level. It's about their dreams and aspirations.
But what happens when you don't share the same dreams and aspirations. Can a relationship survive?
Declan is mad on becoming a ProV8 driver. It's all he wants, nothing can come between him and his training. He is determined to get on the team he idolizes.
Alyssa has her dreams, going to uni, getting married and having kids.
Declan and Alyssa's relationship is so up and down and both are as bad as each other.
I really did enjoy this story it gives you the insight into the earlier years of these two. I'm looking forward to reading undecided and seeing where this story goes.
“Decide” is the opening novella in a series about V8 Racer Declan Reede, and his twin passions: racing, and childhood friend turned first love Alyssa.
Spanning two tumultuous years between 15 and 17, when Declan graduates from high school, “Decide” charts the on again, off again relationship between Declan and Alyssa. Told in first person, the novella has Declan finally having to choose between chasing his racing dreams or risking suburban settlement with his girlfriend.
The writing is clear and the voice authentically teen. Reading it, it feels like an episode of "Neighbours" sprinkled with erotica, like a teen book that pushes into very adult territory. Though this is not what I usually read, for teens looking for a racy new adult read in a young voice, this revs all the right engines.
This was a great start to what I think will be a great series!
Declan and Alysa have been best friends since elementary school. When they are 15 things change and they are now a couple. Things don't stay as easy going as their friendship went. There are good times but they hit a lot of bumps and break up a lot. Keep in mind they are still in high school in this book so these things happen. All Declan wants to do is race ProV8 and Alysa doesn't believe that he can do it and doesn't support him with his dream. She expects him to go to UNI with her, get married and have kids. Will they be able to work through the challenges of what to do with their futures?
This a short story giving the reader a look into the past relationship of Declan and Alyssa. We see the beginning of their relationship from youngsters to young adults. It is filled with the high school drama of romance. They break up they make to do it all over again. thet both suffer the innocence of youth. Declan has dreams of becoming a successful race driver. He is obsessed. Alyssa doesn't understand and wants him to go to college and be with her. She kind of brushed his dreams to the side. With his dad whispering in his ear, Declan decides to choose racing over his love for Akyssa. I think the author did a good job setting us up for the adult story.
This was a great introduction into the beginning of Declan and Alyssa story. They were best friends forever, turn lover. Their story was a typical girl and boy falling in love. But sometimes that love is complicated when you are young and you have goals you want to accomplish.
Their story was sweet, innocent, and at times painful. My heart was nearly ripped out when everything crumbled.
This book was fast-pass. I could not finish this fast enough and start into book 1 Decline. This book is so good, so full of angst. Definitely a must read.
What a great start to this series, it's the story of Declan and Alyssa growing up together and as teenagers taking their friendship a step further to become young lovers. Dreams are made and heartbreak follows as Declan has to decide what he wants the most. I was drawn into the story right from the start and im a Declan fan all the way. Can't wait to see what happens when the second book gets released.
I really enjoyed this book. Declan and Alyssa have been friends since they were 6 years old and become high school sweethearts. The progression from first kiss into complicated teenage love was sweet and well written. Can their love survive when Declan's lifelong dream of becoming a professional race car driver comes true? This book is 0.5 in the Declan Reede: The Untold Story Series. Their story will be continued in "Decline," book one of the series.
