The Record of My Heart

Rate this book
Daniel Grant desperately wants Aubrey Price, a woman he can't have—at least not for two long months. He could give up and walk away, but he won't. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, he waits.

And while he waits...he writes.

Through a series of journals and letters, The Record of my Heart traces Daniel's romantic contemplations, what he calls "the secret musings of a man tumbling headfirst in love..."

Georgina Guthrie is a self-professed book hugger and compulsive diarist. Though GG now resides in Canada, she was born across the pond and still considers herself a Brit through and through, which may explain her frequent visits to her favourite local British import shop.

GG is often happiest when reading and writing, but she’s just as likely to be found hanging out with friends and family, almost certainly with a glass of red wine in one hand a bag of cheese and onion crisps in the other.

Let me just say, if you were not convinced after “Better Deeds than Words” that Sailor is in fact up there with the ultimate ‘swoon worthiness of book boyfriends’ - You will be after reading “The Record of My Heart”.

Inspired by a group of letters that his Grandfather wrote for Patty, Daniel decides to pen his own series of love letters and journals as he waits for the time he and Aubrey can be together.
During this process, he relates his affection for Poppet to various works of Shakespeare and Keats. Highlights for me included Henry VIII as he pined for Anne Boleyn...

“...absence gives enough, and more than I ever thought could be felt...”

Then there was John Keats and as Sailor describes “his epic love letters to Fanny Brawne. His affection for her turned him into a lovesick wretch” I love that Daniel associates with this and further more...

“I cannot exist without you – I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again-my life seems to stop there- I see no further...
...My creed is love and you are its only tenet-you have ravish’d me away by a power I cannot resist.”

So tell me you’re not swooning now!!
If you’re not... I don’t believe you.

There are many more passages I’d love to quote to you, but I think you deserve to read Daniel’s musings for yourself. I will however, point you to my favourite journal entry which is Wednesday April 22. What a total sweetheart! Daniel...I think I love you!

After reading the whole Words series, the ending of ‘The Record of My Heart’ is just wonderful. I loved it and by then I was a blubbering mess. I can only imagine that Aubrey would have been exactly the same way.

Thank you Georgina Guthrie, for your wonderful words. You take your readers on a delightful journey and leave us with sense of hope that real gentlemen DO exist as well as good old fashioned romance.

4.5 stars. Argh! This book is filled with my kryptonite; specifically, romantic gentlemen and poetry. I'm usually never the person to use such internet memes but Daniel Grant is a freaking cinnamon roll... too pure and good for this world. He is literally the epitome of perfection and has completely ruined me for every other men. If Gabriel Emerson (Gabriel's Inferno) is the Emperor of romance, then Daniel Grant is equally entitled to it. My heart had no other job except to flutter and swoon to his beautiful letters & poetry. I'm just gonna lay in bed and cry how this perfection's existence will forever be fictional *deep sigh*

What does one do, when you have a man baring his everything to you? To be able to look into him and see what drives him, what makes his heartbeat, what makes his soul live. The Record of My heart is a series of journals and letters by Daniel to Aubrey.

When I started reading The Words series, it was Aubrey who I admired more than Daniel. I’ve always thought that Aubrey was the better character, strong, out spoken and very intelligent. But in the Record of My Heart, I see more of Daniel as he tumbled head first into love.

And what a tumble it was.

I actually felt like I fell along with him, journeying again through the different stages of their courtship. Through his writing, we get to see how truly intelligent and witty he is. Daniel’s love for Aubrey is sweet and sentimental, pure and raw. There are times where it becomes doubtful, silly and (very characteristically Daniel) neurotic. But as Daniel comes to terms with it, his love is undoubtedly absolute and real.

The Record of My Heart is such a wonderful read, and a true companion to The Words Series. I've always felt that the three earlier books needed more of Daniel’s point of view so this was very much welcomed. It does not rehash the previous events of the other books, and Daniel’s thoughts give a fresh point of view.

I will always love Daniel and Aubrey’s story but I would like to apologize to Daniel for two things: first, for being a spectator in their lives once again and second, for seeing it through his heart. But I firmly believe that it would be wrong to deprive the world of a love so beautiful as theirs, with words as true as his.

When a author gives you more time with one of your favorite characters in the whole world, is a gift, a gift from the heavens.

i devoured this book, to be in DANIEL HEADSPACE WHILE HE WAS WOOING AUBREY? *Squeals* ..and then after she was already wooed...and then at the end of the truest of words? *cries of happiness*

This from what i gathered is not a novella per se, but a companion story, a collection of Daniels journal entries, where he would spill his heart, vent his frustrations, wishes and dreams, mostly about what he hoped his relationship of aubrey would be, then, he kinda is a hopeless romantic, cause once he had the girl, he still kept his journal.. i loved how every entry after he admitted he had feelings for aubrey was solely directed to her, it was his (at first) unconscious intention she one day would read them, i cannot imagine what aubrey felt once she read all of this, he gave her his heart in writing.

The part after their first weekend (in BDTW) literally killed me..and then after the 'palais royale' (second visit)..it was a sob fest through and through.

i think, the part in the first 2 books, when aubrey told daniel not to buy her things, feed up this habit of his, and for me, this is the most thoughtful and romantic gift anyone could ask for. Daniel is a master of romance, and i very much love every second of this book.

If you've read Georgina's Word series, you MUST read this one. To see Daniel's heart poured out on paper is so heart wrenchingly good, that it is hard to describe. This book is the absolute perfect addition to the other books. So well done!

When I heard that this was being published I was pretty excited. As I’ve mentioned before, I love reading a male POV and I really enjoyed Georgina Guthrie’s Words series. Obviously this was a WIN/WIN for me.

This book was incredibly cute! I loved having an entire book from Daniel's perspective. Super, super romantic.

I only gave this 4 stars because I don't know if I would read this again. Maybe I will! And this time, I'll read all the "Words" books closer together so I don't forget anything and so everything makes sense. There are some great characters here (I'm looking at you, Penny and Patty). Overall, this series is highly recommended - it's smart, savvy, and deliciously, unforgivably steamy ;)
