Man in the Moon

Her Nana had always told her she would find the peanut butter to her jelly. But, at twenty-nine, Chris was still looking for that perfect one—the man who didn’t exist. He was like the Man in the Moon; a simple fairy tale that would never be real.

Andrew was very real, though, and when he came back home after being away for close to twenty years, seeing Chris again ignited unforgettable memories he had buried long ago.

With a sprinkling of help from Chris’s new boss, and a little luck in love, perhaps these two could reconnect and make new memories.

From childhood friends to adults, would Chris let Andrew be her real Man in the Moon?

My favorite things to do include: looking into the mechanics of falling in love, making sure my kids are clothes, fed and watered, and keeping my husband out of trouble.

As a graphic artist by day and writer by night, I love to take characters and throw them into a world I can't get out of my head. Sometimes, I even share these stories with you. Sometimes my heart hurts as I try to pen them down. Life doesn't always allow me to do the things I love, but at least I get to craft visuals into covers for other authors who have written their souls into twisted little tales.

Contact me here or on Facebook, I'm usually pretty friendly, and sometimes even funny.

In today’s saturated market of Alpha-males and sex-driven female characters, Man in the Moon is a different sort of love story.
Softer, gentler, and a balm to the soul.
It’s a story of two people falling in love—no high drama—no hidden secrets—just two people who reconnect after years apart and find their soulmate.
A light-hearted, wonderful read — told beautifully, this story made me smile throughout the book, and left me feeling just a little more hopeful that true love can still exist.

*I was gifted an ARC of Man in the Moon in exchange for an honest review.*

Man in the Moon (Sweet Escapes Book 1) by Melissa Gardener is a sweet tale of love between two friends who have been out of touch for nearly twenty years. Chris Laurence has called off her engagement and is starting a new path in her life when she runs into her best friend from childhood, Andrew Miller-Harris, at the flower shop she is set to take over. Andrew has recently moved back to the area to stay close to his family and couldn’t be more pleased to reconnect with his childhood friend.

What follows is a realization by both friends that they are meant for each other and always have been. We see glimpses of their past friendship and watch them move from tentative reconnection through romance and marriage.

As advertised, the book is, in a word, sweet. Maybe a little too sweet, but perhaps that depends on one’s taste. Other than Chris’ ex-fiancé suddenly deciding he wants her back—which is resolved rather quickly—there is no adversity in the book whatsoever. In fact, at times it feels like both characters are thinking and feeling the same exact perfect thing. The story is told in third person point of view, so we know what is in everyone’s mind. Reading about Chris feeling the lust and maybe something more and then hearing the same from Andrew gets a bit tedious. I realize many people will enjoy the instant attraction and lack of problems, but for me it was missing something. The main characters lack depth, and the secondary characters feel like fillers. The dialogue feels unnatural, and there are also quite a few grammatical errors.

Ultimately, this story didn’t do it for me, but that doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy the sweetness and simplicity.

When I first started reading The Man on the Moon, I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but I was in for a very pleasant surprise. Andrew and Chris have a unique relationship that reminds us that some things can stand the test of time despite all odds and that true love does exist. The author just has a way of bringing out some of the most basic, yet the most important things in life. This light-hearted story is the perfect thing to cheer you up and remind you that rue love is out there. Who knows when you’ll meet you Man in the Moon...

It was a slow read for me at first. Andrew and Chris were best friends when they were kids. Their parents were really close too. But when Andrew's father died, his mom decided to go away with him. It was almost 20 years after when they came back to town and Andrew and Chris met again. It's like they never got separated for a long time. I started to like it more when they admitted their love for each other and became a couple. They're so cute and sweet. The only sad part of the book was when they reminisced the death of their parents (Andrew's dad and Chris's mom). It's hard for them to see the other parent because their families were close when they were kids. But there's no heavy drama or scene in this book. And it's safe to read. With a cute epilogue too.

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

The couple was sweet but what I felt was lacking for me was a build up. They became a couple very early in the book and then faced little to no confict through the rest of the story.

This book will appeal to those who want a sweet break from reality, but for me the spice in the bedroom was not quite enough to keep me excited all the way to the end.
