Romantic. Funny. Sexy.

Professor Stephen Worthington’s life makes perfect sense. He teaches classes Tuesdays and Fridays. He has dinners with his parents on the weekend. He goes to the gym with his stepbrother twice a week. And every night he heads home at a reasonable hour, alone.

Only one thing is bothering Stephen’s perfectly organized life: Miss Julia Wilde. Never has Stephen dealt with a more unruly student. She’s rude, provocative, infuriating and the clothes she’s wearing are completely inappropriate.

But all this changes once Stephen finds himself out of the classroom and in Julia’s bedroom. Suddenly the roles are reversed and the stuffy professor receives a much-needed lesson between the sheets.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS is the first book about professor Stephen Worthington and his female student, Julia Wilde.

Absolute Beginners is essentially a Teacher-student romance with a twist, a lot of humour and told entirely from the Heroes POV.

Usually, books about a teacher-student affair is either a quick dirty read with a lot of taboo, or it's an almost-forbidden angst love story. Absolute Beginners falls smack bang between the two. It's almost-forbidden, it's taboo, it's got the age difference, the opposites attract, the naughty student, the angst and the tongue in cheek humour, she even dresses up as a schoolgirl for crying out loud!

The twist? Well the hero is a stuffy professor, he's the one who is seduced, he's also the one inexperienced in sex and love, the heroine is the one who wants the 'no-strings' relationship and doesn't show any emotion.

It's not full of depth, angst or emotion, it's fun. And not everyone will find it funny, but I sure did. I lolled a lot. I loved the hero's step-brother, the total opposite to him.

I loved Stephen and his shyness, he's so unsure and totally clueless when it comes to any kind of pop culture, or anything to do with women. And that's what the story is basically about, about him discovering sex and ultimately finding love.

*5 - Why wasn't I aware of this book?!?!?! - stars

OK guys we finally have a winner!!! I honestly can't remember when it was the last time i gave 5 stars to a book i had to R&R...

So, in this book one of the main characters is confident, hot, sexy, smart, has a tattoo, doesn't date but has occasional hook-ups, is a dirty-talker, kind of kinky, smokes, likes to party and is a woman ... yep, that's right, the heroine is a total badass and i think i'm in love with her!!!

Julia Wilde (aka Jules, aka Ms. Wilde) is my first book girlfriend - and i say that in the straightest way possible - LOL!

I won't say much about the story because the blurb pretty much says it all. I loved the heroine - obviously - but i also loved the hero, Stephen (aka Professor Worthington). In his 33 years he hasn't had the best luck with the ladies and he's a bit inexperienced when it comes to sex but don't worry, he's not a 33 year old virgin (thank God!). He dresses like an old man with his geeky glasses, khaki pants, loose shirts and bow-ties but underneath all that he hides a perfect, hot body - that's right girls, the professor works out!

Stephen is fascinated - or should i say irritated - with one of his students, Ms. Wilde. She's rude but smart and beautiful but hates her not so lady-like outfits and make-up. One night they meet by chance at his brother's sports bar and she asks if he could give her a ride back to her apartment and that's when the roles get reversed...

and it wasn't long before our good professor proved that he is indeed a very good student...

So yeah, the book was hot!!! But it was also sweet, funny and well written and if you don't mind cliffhangers (nothing huge, but i definitely want to read the next book) you should totally read this one! :)

PS. I forgot to mention that it was written entirely from the Hero's POV which was different and interesting...

4.5 stars. I am a sucker for a good student teacher romance and this story is unlike any I have read before in this genre. Stephen is a college professor and he is inexperienced with women. He's kind of shy and nerdy. This book is told entirely in Stephen's point of view. Being inside Stephen's head is hilarious - the stuff that goes through his head really made me laugh out loud. He's so sweet and innocent, I just loved him. Julia Wilde is the kind of girl who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it, even if what she wants is her professor. She's definitely more experienced than Stephen, even though she is 10 years younger, but she's very patient with him. I wasn't crazy about Julia at the beginning of this book but I ended up really liking her. Also, this book is super steamy hot! I can't wait to read the next book in this series and get more of Stephen and Julia's story - and hopefully more with Stephen's brother Matt.

DNF at 8%

Can't get over a woman-shaming hero (literally seems to hate women who express themselves even slightly and thinks they're all whorish) who refers to his penis as his "nether regions".

Like a Sheldon from Big Bang Theory fanfic gone wrong. I requested a nerdy hero...not an asshole who doesn't understand what eyeliner is and keeps referring to it as "those black smudges around her eyes WhAt ArE tHeY?!?"

I cannot.

This book was quite a novelty for me. With the recent trend of sexy, alpha, sex gods. It seems that every guy you read about is cocky and can eff you like a porn star. With this book, it was so refreshing to see a regular guy be well, normal. He wasn't your normal full of himself hero. He had questions. He had doubts. And he was learning as he exploring who he was. It was endearing to read how innocent Stephen was. I could not take another make character who had slept with half the town.

I also loved Julia (Jules). Its like the roles were switched, and we got a heroine who was sure of herself and comfortable in get own skin. She wasn't the normal quiet, demure, virginal female characters everyone writes about nowadays. She knew what she liked, how she wanted things, spoke her mind, and went after what she wanted. And that is a heroines want to read about. And the fact that she got a kick out of riling Stephen up is icing on the cake.

I really liked the author's writing style. The flow was effortless, and the book was funny. I read it in one sitting and cannot wait for book two to come out. This book gets give stars, no doubt about it.

In a world filled with Alpha males and over the top testosterone, Professor Stephen Worthington is an enigma. Quiet and unassuming, his life is mapped out, predictable, and he is happy with it.
At least he thinks so.
Until one night he finds himself in bed with one of his students.
Julia Wilde is everything Stephen is not.
And somehow, it turns out, perfect for him.
This light, humorous romance is a balm for your soul to read. Awkward and shy, Stephen’s passion is awoken by Julia, and he in turn, slowly begins to break down her barriers, showing her there is more to their unconventional relationship than just sex.
Ms. Hooks has written a male character that is actually human – filled with doubts and worries about himself and his sexual expertise. His inner musings are both amusing and sweet and his relationship with his brother is a nice added layer to the story.
An excellent, fast read, I’m looking forward to the second book to see how these two progress.

So...this was my original post on this book: "This is on my "Most anticipated books for 2015 list". I can't wait for its release! Will leave a full review once the book has dropped and been devoured."

I'm a tad late with my thoughts on this, but here they are! I loved it! It was fun, funny and well written. The dynamic between the slightly curmudgeonly Professor and Julia was a joy to watch unfold. I loved that it was a story of a student schooling the teacher...and school him she did!

This was a great read. Up next? Absolute Lovers!

I can't wait until the book is available!! The fanfiction version is one of my "absolute" favorite stories, and I know the author has included much new material. My only concern is that if the chemistry between the two main characters gets any hotter, I might catch on fire, LOL!

I requested Absolute Beginners on Netgalley because I'm a sucker for student-teacher romance. There are so many bad books with the same premise out there that I didn't expect much from it, to be honest. That and I usually find ARCs to be pretty awful.

This book is shelved under 'erotica', but I'd say it's more NA. Now, let me get my note, because I have A LOT of them. And they're all about the main character, Stephen. (yes, it's told from the male teacher POV)

To give you a taste:

So the guy is a major case of TSTL.

Apparently there are two persons in his head

That guy sure "blurts out" a lot.

He's fucking clueless. How did he survive this long ?

I was actually very annoyed with Stephen for most of the story, but I started to like him around the 80% mark. Instead of rolling my eyes every time he spoke or thought or "blurted out", I found him kinda cute. I don't know why, because he was just as stupid as before.

The characters:

Stephen is a lit professor. If you want to know what he's like, follow my instructions:

-Picture the most boring guy you've ever met.
-Multiply this level of boringness by 50.
-Make him hot, but only when he's naked. The rest of the time, dress him with too-large clothes, uncoordinated colors, a corduroy (CORDUROY) jacket, and a bowtie. I kid you not. A bowtie. A real bowtie.
-Give him the most awful haistyle you can think of.
-Give him your great-grandfather's taste in the following domains: music, fashion, dating, technology.
-Make him clueless around women.
-Make him an almost-virgin.
-Have him blush whenever we're talking about sex.

Julia is his student. If you want to know what she's like, follow my instructions:

-Picture a girl with too much make-up on, ripped panty-hoses, bad foot-wear (according to Stephen), and a generally bad appearance.
-Make her sassy and extremely smart.
-Use her to tease Stephen every chance you get.
-Make her hot and cute and beautiful and whatever when she has no make-up on and isn't dressed like she's going to the carnival.
-Make her open about her sexuality.
-Give her two girlfriends that like dancing on tabletops.

There you go.

The plot:

So Stephen is at his brother's bar (which is about as crazy a thing for him to do as participating in an orgy) when his unsufferable student, Julia Wilde, comes in and starts dancing on tabletops. He gets her home, and they end up sleeping together. Cue dramatic melody.

What was different about this book (compared to all the student-teacher ones out there):

I liked that Absolute Beginners took a different turn of events than most. First of all, they don't meet before the year started, which is what usually happens.

Second, the male lead isn't absolutely gorgeous.

Most of all though, I liked that Julia (the student) is the one that teaches him pretty much everything. And I'm not just talking about sex here: she also teaches him to be confident, to like himself, to dress better, to generally be something other than a doormat.

Also, although this is shelved as erotica, there are no "tight, wet pussies" or "huge cocks". Let's all thank the Lord, shall we ?

One thing I didn't really like was that:

Today we were discussing the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

Helloooo, cliché ! A student-teacher romance ? And they're srudying Lolita ? Really ? Really ?

I didn't expect to enjoy this book so much, so I'm glad I picked it up.

This story was interesting.. I had no idea it started as a twilight fanfition!
Stephen's innocence was a little ridiculous at times (for being a 33 year old guy!).. Julia was a complex character.. She was definitely sweet with a tough exterior.

I can't wait for book #2!

This was a fun sweet read. Several times I laughed out loud.

The entire book is from Stephens POV.

Stephen is a straight laced English professor who becomes enamored with a bold 22 year old student. She seduces him, initiating him into the art of satisfying a woman. I loved his inner dialogue. Somehow his inexperience didn't come across as a turn off.

I was surprised when I got to the end and noticed it was continued in a second book. I won't be reading it because I feel it's a pretty happy place to leave off and the author was really stretching my interest to go further.

I noticed this come up on my feed, and being partial to a teacher/student storyline, I jumped right in. Now I’m aware that it was published as a fanfic by Sheviking, who has decided to publish to a wider audience, and I think that is great.

Stephen Worthington is a teacher of classic literature. He unconsciously models himself on his father, nerdy glasses, tweed jackets, and even his father’s bow tie. He enjoys his introverted life outside his work, including the constant ribbing he receives from his step brother, Matt, who owns a local sports bar, and is the complete opposite to Stephen.

Julia Wilde is a 22 year old student in Professor Stephen’s class, and is a constant, yet constructive contributor to the discussions surrounding the lessons. She riles Stephen. He finds her snarky, and abhors the way she dresses. He is constantly discussing her in a negative way with his step brother, which makes Matt think that thats a good thing..

Julia appears in Matt’s bar one night when Stephen is there too. They have a conversation, Stephen offers to give her a lift home, and things take a turn from there.

I really enjoyed being inside Stephen’s head, as the entire story is from his POV. He has never quite met a girl like Julia before, who not only challenges his perception of women, but through her brazenness, offers him a tour to help raise his sexual spirit.

Julia, in turn, finds his timid approach and chivalrous nature, endearing, and its not long before Stephen is on board and enjoying his new found hobby immensely.

Their dialogue is extremely entertaining, and what appears to be a fairly superficial student/teacher romp, soon becomes more.

I look forward to getting back to this story in the next instalment.

Note: This ARC was provided by Full Fathom Five via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Stephen Worthington is the poster child for tenured professors everywhere. With his bow tie and suits, tamely groomed hair, and glasses plus his penchant for staying at home to read books, write articles, grade papers, and listen to classical music, he doesn't look anything like a thirty-three-year-old should. Nothing really gets him riled up--until the one student who gets on his nerves steps into his classroom twice a week.

Julia Wilde looks like a walking mess, what with her penchant for out-of-this-world outfits, make-up, and hair. She's intelligent and never afraid to share her opinion in class, even if it does tend to spark heated debates between her and her classmates. She purposely calls her lit professor by his first name, never listens to him whenever he asks her to use his formal title of professor, and openly flirts with him in class.

When Stephen's and Julia's paths cross one night in the bar Stephen's brother owns, she ends up asking him for a ride home and then proceeds to ask him if he wants to come up to her apartment. Stephen's mouth doesn't appear to want to listen to his brain and agrees and things proceed to go in a direction that the good professor never anticipated, leading into an illicit but oh-so-hilarious affair with his student.

Absolute Beginners is the first book in the Absolute duet by first-time author SJ Hooks and, based on the note at the end of the novel, it's first incarnation was as Twilight-inspired fan fiction entitled The Education of Edward Cullen, with Edward Cullen as a professor and Bella Swan as his student. I never read the fanfic, as is the case with the books I've read that began as fanfic, so I can't really compare.

Based on what I read, I must say that I am one very, very, VERY happy and satisfied camper. ^.^ The book was such a fun read, with too many funny moments to count and yet never lost that sense of sweetness. There are numerous steamy scenes but each one was presented without having to be overly graphic or explicit. That's not to say that they were by any means tame because they could fog up a few glasses. ;)

Now, there are a lot of fiction (and non-fiction) books out there that cover the whole teacher-student subject matter, but what I loved about this particular book was the humor in it. Lead male character Stephen's internal monologue was hilarious, especially when he would think one thing and blurt out something contradictory. Obviously, the poor guy's small head was constantly overruling his big head.

Like I mentioned earlier, this book is part of a duet and yes, it does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger. There's also a teaser for the second book, Absolute Lovers, and it looks like that's destined to be a laugh out loud affair as well. If you enjoy reading romantic comedies, I highly recommend this teacher-student love story with a twist. Absolute Beginners is a wonderfully whimsical book worth reading. Five stars! ♥

Absolute Beginners 5★

“I want to…” Take away the pain I see in your eyes, kiss you, hug you, talk and laugh with you, make love to you…

This is one story I absolutely love. It started with a slow build up, getting to know the characters and the people around them, the dynamics and the total feel of the story.

Well, to be honest, I was a little hesitant with my view of Professor Worthington’s character. He actually hates this student of him, whom he thought dresses the way she does just to get a rise out of him. And does everything to irate him.

But then, that fateful night happened. And I’m not really sure who’s picking who. And I was just excited and curious as to what will happened.

Let me tell you this. Stephen is like a virgin. The keyword was like. Naïve. Sweet. So eager to learn and so wanting to please. He is so old school, I’m finding the way he dress actually something would make you look the other way around when you see him. But, don’t be fooled by the way he looks. All those suspenders and bow ties hides an amazing body. He’s actually cute. And very funny.

“Ooh, now you’re dropping H-bombs, too!” Matt laughed. I had no idea what he meant. Hydrogen bombs were hardly a laughing matter.

Julia is hard to explain. She has the amazing personality. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. She seems not afraid of anything. A very sexual person. Oh yeah. But there are things about her that makes Stephen skittish about broaching anything related to emotions and feelings. And well, add to the fact that she is Stephen’s student. The whole taboo thing.

What I love more about this novel is that Stephen and Julia’s conversation. Yes, they avoid the discussion of their feelings but the way Julia ‘guided’ Stephen into accepting his sexuality, that’s a super big points for me.

It’s cute, and romantic and makes me sappy and dreamy, gah. I don’t know what to say more. I totally love this!

“What are you having?” I finally asked.
“You,” she said with a smile.

My Review:
I liked this book just in that it was such a different style than normal. The book is told from the hero, Stephen's, POV. Stephen is a nerdy, shy, socially awkward professor. He's fine conversing with others when he's at the front of his class, but in any other setting, he isn't.

He has a student who drives him batty, Ms. Wilde. Ms. Wilde sits on the front row, interrupts discussions with her points (which are usually right), she dresses all wrong (way too sexy), and she's driving him crazy. His brother says he's hot for her, which Stephen thinks is way off base...until suddenly it isn't. Then Stephen finds himself being schooled in a very different way by Ms. Wilde.

I enjoyed this book and the story line. This is a seriously forbidden affair. Julia is a decade younger than him and his student. This can't happen, but it does...over and over again. And suddenly Stephen finds that he doesn't want it to end. I liked this book. Stephen is awkward and geeky, but it's his own hang-ups holding him back. He's really sexy and sweet...he just never lets anyone see that until Julia begins to coax it out of him. She's irreverent and in your face. I loved how she simply put things out there with him and left it to him whether he wanted to go for it or not.

The book is extremely sexy just in that Stephen has hardly any sexual experience at all. Julia takes it upon herself to teach him and that makes for some great and smexy scenes in this book. I liked that about it... a lot. She's just so straight-forward about it all. I loved her for that and it helps him too in that he quickly becomes unafraid to ask questions and eventually make demands. Yeah...sexy.

Both characters have an amazing set of friends who also play heavily into the story. I loved one of the scenes toward the end in the gay bar which was completely fun all the way around.

I do have to admit that I was shocked when the book ended. While it doesn't end on a cliff-hangar, the book most definitely is NOT finished. I can't wait to read the second installment, although I do wish I had realized it was a two (or more) parter before I started it.

I believe I remember reading this as Twific, but anyhoo, it was just okay for me. The audio narration worsened it if I’m honest. It honestly should be one whole book instead of having a second because honestly, I’m not inclined to keep going. Probably gonna stop here.

I ... don't know where to start with this book?

It was pretty bad I guess? But there was enough engagement for me to finish it? I dunno.

Stephen Whatshisface is a professor who is a massive nerd that wears his Khakis a-la-Simon-Cowell and bow ties and side parts his hair and listens to classical music and hasn't touched a woman in four years. He stutters his way through 99% of his interactions with Miss Wilde, which ..

*groan*

Julia Wilde ... could it be any more cliche? And it gets worse, because she embodies her name: promiscuous and a party girl. She dresses like a punk rocker and swears like a sailor. She's also manipulative and a lot of a bitch. Julia, is one of Stephen's comparative literature students.

Stephen doesn't stand a chance, apparently.

So, despite the possibility that he could lose his job if they are ever found out, he embarks on a sexual relationship with this vixen.

Stephen also spends most of the book wishing she would dress and speak like a "proper lady". Fucking what???

Stephen also gets a make-over because, of course, underneath all the nerd, there's obviously a super hot guy waiting for his time in spot-light. And he can't possibly be the hero of a romance if he's a massive nerd.

*blood pressure rises*

Stephen's step-brother, Matthew, is a massive misogynist who objectifies women and this, apparently, is what Stephen should aim towards in his dealings with women.

The book ends with them all in a gay club where, of course, Stephen finds himself inundated with drinks from all the gay men who want in his pants because of the magical make-over.

There was potential with the character Shawn, who is Matthew's business partner. He is, apparently, an equal opportunity lover who actually has a line to the effect of:
"Why do I need to label my sexuality? I just love people."

Shawn then ends up being portrayed as a stereotypical, camp gay man who's only delights are fashion and shopping. Oh, and then he hooks up with Julia's female friend at the gay club.

I think, at this point, it is important to point out that this book started out life as a Twilight fan fiction.

I have to say: after reading 50 Shades, Seduction and Snacks, and now this? Publishers need to start staying away from anything that started out as a fan fiction.

I got the second book from Netgalley and I'm going to have to read it, but I really don't want to.
