Fixing Ashley: A Novella

Rate this book
Hardworking contractor Devon James, dreams of a day when he can build his own home overlooking Sebago Lake. When the opportunity arises to work for uptight designer Ashley Evans, Devon finds himself wanting to take the job, even if it means having to endure Ashley’s little quirks. After all, the house she wants him to work on is a lucrative project and, better yet, located near the site where his dreams lay barren. So he’d be crazy to pass it up, right?
What he doesn't know is that Ashley harbors secrets of her own. When he finds out, can he deal with them or is she more trouble than what he bargained for?
Told from Devon’s point of view, Fixing Ashley is an unconventional love story about two people struggling to stay apart while everything around them brings them together.

My favorite things to do include: looking into the mechanics of falling in love, making sure my kids are clothes, fed and watered, and keeping my husband out of trouble.

As a graphic artist by day and writer by night, I love to take characters and throw them into a world I can't get out of my head. Sometimes, I even share these stories with you. Sometimes my heart hurts as I try to pen them down. Life doesn't always allow me to do the things I love, but at least I get to craft visuals into covers for other authors who have written their souls into twisted little tales.

Contact me here or on Facebook, I'm usually pretty friendly, and sometimes even funny.

Devon is a home contractor and gets a call from Ashley asking him to complete a housing project she has going. Ashley is very coy about who she is working for and is very specific as to what she wants done to each room. Devon finds himself drawn to Ashley and tries to fight his feelings since she is his co-worker/boss on this job. He finds out some secrets about Ashley that leave him struggling to figure out what he wants to do about pursuing a relationship with her. Ashley is getting over a divorce and is closely guarding her secrets throughout this book. When both parties decide the lay all of their cards on the table, we are left to discover how they are able to overcome all of the hurdles that they were faced with. It was a short read and at times I felt too much was left unanswered. This book was done solely from the POV of Devon and so we were never given a glimpse at Ashley's past or why she was so secretive and guarded. A very quick read.

This was a quick read; a short and sweet romance that is ideal for people like me whose hearts can't take too much angst. LOL. There were some moments that definitely could have been expanded (I would have liked just a smidge more Devon and Ashley time) but that's - as usual - just greedy reader talk. I always want more when I'm a fan. Definitely recommended for lovers of sweet romances.
