One Secret. Multiple Casualties.

With a new target on their back and the media now focused on their family as the Presidential election approaches, Liam and Melody must fight on two battlefronts. Melody is torn between being in love with Liam and wanting to kill him for lying to her. Being in love and showing love are two different things in her world. Liam wants to do anything to protect his family even if that means hurting the people he loves.

Family is everything… but what happens when they’re out for your blood? Everything they have been through is nothing compared to what is coming...

I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.

★★★★★! The Untouchables, book 2 of 4. Liam & Mel’s continued tumultuous & blood-filled quest for world domination!

The Ruthless People trilogy follows the merger, through marriage, of two mafia families, The Callahan’s (Irish) and The Giovanni’s (Italian), with the intent of maintaining wealth and world domination through mainly drug trafficking and corruption by a.n.y. m.e.a.n.s. n.e.c.e.s.s.a.r.y.!

Books in series should be read in order:
Book 0.5: Declan + Coraline
Book 1: Ruthless People
Book 2: Untouchables
Book 3: American Savages
Book 4: A Bloody Kingdom

In Ruthless People (book 1) prodigal son, Liam Alec Callahan, was ready to get passed on the reigns to the family empire along with title of Ceann na Conairte. Through marriage to heiress Melody Nicci Giovanni, Mel he would also take over her father’s mafia empire AND gain a meek wife to represent them…

Nothing could have prepared Liam for Melody aka The Boss who had secretly been running her family empire and was not about to relent her power. Story followed Liam and Melody in the power struggle that ensued and when they faced common enemies in a violent battle for supremacy.

The Untouchables (book 2) picks up about a year after book 1’s ending. It goes on to follow Liam and Mel as they continue their quest for world domination, including the presidency of the United States. They are taunted and challenged by friends and foes and dark, even more powerful and deadly forces. It’s an uphill battle that Liam and Mel try to fight side by side.

A roller-coaster of suspense, intrigue, sex, murder, corruption, violence, manipulation and betrayal! But ultimately it’s a journey of sacrifices and growth. And though Liam and Mel might always be ruthless people in the eyes of the world the love they share is of epic proportions!

Liam Alec Callahan aka Ceann na Conairte, is the prodigal son who in book 1 weaseled his way into my heart while managing to find the perfect balance between whopped, in charge and diplomacy. He will continue on that path while showing signs of maturity. There are more endearing revelations about him. Truly an unforgettable hero!

Nine words to describe Liam: Focused, cocky, calculated, reflective, jaded, hot-headed, vulnerable, diplomatic and ruthless.

Melody Nicci Giovanni-Callahan, Mel aka The Boss aka Bloody Melody is the perfect blend of strong, bad-ass heroine, vulnerable, broken girl and men-at-your-feet temptress with a temper! We see some self-reflection and growth and even though I heart the bad ass Mel, I am very fond of the matured Mel.

Nine words to describe Melody: V.o.l.a.t.i.l.e., motivated, competitive, fierce, smart, calculated, complex, hot-headed and ruthless.

The Untouchables, told from multiple POVs is the seamless blend of drama, romance, angst and suspense and a worthy follow up to book 1, rivaling it in every aspect. As for ending; Brilliant! Shocking! Devastating! Unexpected! Gutsy! It’s the perfect set-up for book 3, American Savages, the conclusion of their saga.

Flawless and suspenseful plot! Spellbinding story-telling! Genius character development! A captivating and truly untouchable couple! It’s a story that consumed me. 6-stars!

I love this crazy-ass couple! Melody and Liam are such scary, but completely captivating, characters. I never know what to expect from them. This second book in the series proved to be as exciting as the first.

It's been a while since I read 'Ruthless People', so I did have to refresh myself on all the players. Mostly, I needed a reminder on which brother was married to which woman, etc. once I had that straightened out, I flew through this one. If I had read the book instead of listening to the Audible version, I probably wouldn't have been so confused at first. The rapidly changing POVs were a bit hard to follow.

That being said, once I set myself straight, I found this story to be completely absorbing. It goes without saying that there was plenty of action and suspense. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the growing emotional bond between Melody and Liam.

After the loss of their first pregnancy, Melody had been a wreck. It was good to see her return to herself in this book. It was also nice to see her show her softer side as she came to terms with her feelings about own crazy mother, as well as her child. I thought the author did a nice job of creating a balance between the good and bad aspects of Melody's personality.

Just as I was starting to really like Olivia, she goes and screws it up. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone. I'll just say that I'm pretty sure she freaking crazy!

This book ends with a big reveal that should prove to make things very interesting in the next book. It turns out that Melody has a grandfather that is more dangerous than anyone had ever imagined. The Callahans are definitely up against a wall when it comes to him.

Overall, I thought it was a great continuation of Liam and Melody's story. It was exactly what I wanted and expected for this Mafia family. It was gritty, suspenseful and fantastic!

I was a Callahan. God help whoever stood in this family's way.

The Callahans are back and they're as crazy as ever. Ruthless People was one of my favorite books from last year, but it's definitely a book that's either for you...or not. There's not really a middle here. Melody and Liam are borderline psychotic, violent, ruthless, and their volatile relationship pretty much mirrors that. If the first book wasn't your cuppa, I don't suggest you read this one. If you were like me and found the first book entertaining for exactly what it was, then you definitely need to read this one.
We were all fakers; lying to people who were lying to themselves.

The Untouchables takes off immediately where Ruthless People ended; Liam finds out that Melody's mother that everyone thought had died in the plane crash years ago is not only alive and well but is even more ruthless than her daughter and wants them all dead. He's determined not to let Melody find out until he has more details, but Melody is just as determined to discover whatever it is that Liam is keeping from her.

All the motives for murder are covered by four Ls: Love, Lust, Lucre and Loathing."
-P.D. James

Of course nothing stays hidden long and when the queen B is pissed, heads start to roll. The truth about her mother turns out to be much more than her simply being alive and after Melody and her family. A long standing vendetta soon begins to become uncovered and the Callahans may be facing an enemy that is even more ruthless and dangerous than them.

I wasn’t sure what was coming, but I knew it was coming straight from hell.

When Melody's life is threatened, Liam is determined to protect her at whatever cost...even if he has to kill his own family members to do it. This is not a man to be messed with. Liam is as Liam was, quick tempered, violently overprotective, and always horny.

While Melody and Liam may still fight like they want to kill each other, the passion between them is just as fiery.
I was addicted to her.
She glared at me and I wanted her, she sneezed and I wanted her. She was everything...

There was a lot, and I mean A LOT that happens here. Truth be told, it was almost too much for my puny brain at times. I think that had I read Ruthless People right before this and had all those details fresh in my mind, I would have enjoyed this a lot more. As I began to get further into the story I began to realize that I had forgotten some very pivotal details and the author doesn't really ease you into that information here, more throws you right into the deep end. Now that's not necessarily bad, because it may get redundant to have all these things repeated, but it did impact my enjoyment since I did forget. It was the smallest details too, like Declan being Liam's cousin and not brother. At first I thought it came completely out of left field, but when I went back to re-read parts of Ruthless People, I realized this was something that was revealed a while ago.
Murder is like potato chips: you can't stop with just one.
-Stephen King

All that being said, the biggest reason for my lower rating was the POVs. There were a lot of them. I'm talking everyone and their mother had one. Literally. You had Liam, Melody, Declan, Olivia, Sedric, Neal, Coraline, and even 2 side characters that were the hired muscle. This is something that will either work for you or it won't. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter. my puny brain just couldn't keep up. Between trying to remember all the details from book 1 and then wrapping my head around everything that was happening here, it was taking me forever to read. I kept having to go back and re-read many parts simply because I would find myself lost. Now again, perhaps if Ruthless People was still fresh in my memory, I wouldn't have had this issue, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.
This wasn't a game. This was our fucking family, and nothing trumped family.

My one quibble aside, this was still entertaining as fuck. Filled with murder and betrayal, mystery and suspense, this was a non-stop action packed ride. The question of who is the game changer that is currently pulling the strings and looking to overthrow the Callahans is something that remains a mystery until the very end. Then JJ hits you with a motherfucker of a cliffhanger. Luckily the wait for book 3 isn't long, so my reaction wasn't quite as stabby as it could have been haha.

I can't wait to see how it all resolves. The stakes are certainly high and it's bound to be one epic conclusion.

EDIT 1/19/15
After going back and re-reading parts of Ruthless People, I'm bumping my rating up since a lot of the POVs in this book made more sense to me

5 this shit just keeps getting better and crazier STARS

“Just as I had suspected, something was coming out of Hell and straight towards us. And it was coming fast.”

Is it wrong that I would label The Untouchables as the funniest book I have read in a long time? 'Cause it really is. Hilarious and oh so wrong, but so damn right at the same time.

Here we go again, suspend your disbelief, unless you have no morals or empathy to begin with I suggest you read on with an open mind.

The second instalment of the Ruthless People Series is one hell of a page turner. Once I started I actually read the whole night through until I was done. I was a bit worried if Ms. McAvoy could pull it off again after so thoroughly entertaining me the first time around but I shouldn’t have doubted....all is well and Mel and Liam are crazier and bloodier than ever.

What a way to start my reading year!

“Why were our lives so fucking complicated? All I wanted to do was sell drugs, make love to my wife, and rule in peace.”

After that mother of a cliff-hanger (see what I did there? *wink wink*) at the end of Ruthless People we find us in the midst of a mafia controlled Presidential Election. But the Callahan's rather ambitious goals of world domination are in jeopardy.

For one there is that major secret Liam is keeping from Melody and keeping secrets from a trigger happy wife with a proclivity to shoot first and ask questions later is not a good idea in general.

On the other hand there are always bigger fish in the water and our favourite bloody duo has to find out the hard way that the now destroyed Valero Family was a minor evil and the big bad is still out there...gunning for their heads.

If only they knew who it was and why they appear to be under fire from all sides. And can someone please shut up/kill Olivia? Thanks. ;D

“None of this makes any fucking sense,” Neal groaned, rubbing his temple. “I mean I can't be the only one totally confused”

I have to confess it took me a few pages to get my bearings. I read Ruthless People last summer and as you might remember there are a few members in the family and I completely forgot who they all were.

But don't worry; Ms. McAvoy got us covered. We get a perfect first chapter where we meet almost all the players again, their roles are subtly explained and before you even notice there are all kinds of murder and mayhem going on.

The story is told from multiple POVs and I really appreciated seeing not only what Mel and Liam are up to but also to get a glimpse into the rest of the family. It creates a very broad picture of all that is going on. And believe me a lot of sh*t is going down, half of it even our dominating duo has no idea how to deal with.

“Rule number six: sometimes in order to win, you have to lose.”

Maybe that could work. ;P

“I wasn't sure when we had changed into this lovely couple, but with each passing day, he was becoming a bigger part of my soul. Part of me was still worried about it.”

Liam and Meldoy. I just love their relationship and the whole 'us against the world' mentality. We get to see them growing even closer and more in tune with each other, but most importantly I believe we can see some actual growth and maturity, as well as reflection in both of them. Don't get me wrong they are cold blooded killers, but The Untouchables shows layers.

“I'm Liam Fucking Callahan! I don't meet anyone halfway. They bend my way.”

And I'm pretty sure Liam got a little more ‘alpha’ this time around. Thanks god for small mercies. Didn't even know that was possible but I'm grateful never the less.

“She wasn't any woman, she was Melody. Even the devil pitied me.”

Of course his wife is just kick-ass. While I don't think the term does her justice, I'm just going to leave it there anyway. Yes, she is not right in the head, none of them are, but after reading so many damsel in distress books in this particular genre I really appreciate such a calculated, unapologetic and in no way helpless character. Killer or not.

“You're a motherfucking Callahan. We are never victims; we are the victimizers. The penalty for coming after us is, and will always be, death.”

The family. That's one of the main things I love about this series. La familia. Nothing is more important and more dangerous than family. You can't live them and you can't live without them and in the end they surly will be your downfall...or something like that.

Despite the fact that the Callahans deal with drugs and have god knows how many other illegal ventures operating at any given time, the biggest problems are created from within. But on the other hand family is the thing that keeps everything together and moving forward. Such an interesting way this all plays out and I'm going to stop here...just because...you'll see.

Yes, my whole review is very vague...you can thank me later. ;P

I simply love everything about this series. The characters, the crazy ruthless shenanigans. The twists and turns I didn't see coming had me gasping, oohing and ahhing ever so often and I honestly had a smile on my face the whole way through this bloody brilliant book. Ok, well maybe at the end there I was more shocked than smiling....but really, if you loved the first book you won't be disappointed with The Untouchables. The set up for the next book looks amazing. So many open questions and ARGH...

I for one would love to take a page out of Mel’s book and kill someone to get my hands on American Savages RIGHT NOW!

EDIT (22/12/2018): I still love this series very much. It's so much to read over and over again. However, the more I read it, the more I see that it needs serious editing. Not only for typos but for consistency. Sudden changes in how the scene is described, what they are wearing. Those are small things, but they chip on an otherwise great book!

And what I said after my last re-read of the first book. The Italian sentences are wrong! It really seems like Google translate sentences. Please, please, go on a Facebook find an Italian (native-speaking one) and ask them to look at the sentence you have in Italian. It will be life (and the reader), saver.

3,5/5 ⭐ (It would be 4 ⭐ but I have to take something down for the Italian.

ORIGINAL:The people think you're cold and heartless, with a rich husband, and a powerful daddy. They dislike you and will continue to dislike you until you stop showing them who you really are and start being who they want you to be.

A wake-up call for Olivia?

When Melody finally gives her what she wanted for years, she still finds a ground how to bitch about life being unfair.

Melody is the queen of liars. She can put up any face she wants. Love that.

Melody is still the badass who looks where the next punch is coming.

I even liked Liam more than in the first book. He has more of a backbone and seemed way more mature. And he should seriously buy a hospital for Melody. And at the end, my heart broke a bit for him again.

The President was just assassinated, and not by us.

Hahaha! Love that it's something that's even needed to be said!

And Aviela? She was creepy as hell! These people scare me more than anything. That room fixed with ?

Please! Just kill Olivia!

LIVE on Amazon

I am not even sure where to begin this review. First, this book is amazing. I am not talking "ah what a cute story" or "wow that was intense" - I am talking this book will blow your freaking mind!

It is no secret I absolutely loved Ruthless People, but Ms. McAvoy truly outdid herself here because there are not enough words to convey how much I loved The Untouchables and how highly I recommend it.

"We were all fakers; lying to people who were lying to themselves.”

The Untouchables begins were Ruthless People left off. Liam is keeping the secret about Melody’s mom, Aviela, being a live, and naturally you can’t keep secrets from a girl like Melody. What should be a happy moment for Mel, since she was orphaned when her father died turns out to be a horrible turn of events. Mel’s mom is alive, but she is also a contracted killer who is linked to multiple deaths in Mel’s family and is coming for them next.

On the other front we have Olivia’s father, Senator Coleman, who is running for president. The goal is for the Callan’s to own the White House, and once that happens the possibilities will be endless for the family. Despite their plans nothing comes easy when you have a worthy adversary, Availa, threatening you at every turn.

I try to go into almost every book blind. I don’t want to know what happens, because knowing takes away from the experience. So when I started this review I went back to the blurb to make sure I didn’t include any spoilers in my review. So while the two small paragraphs may feel like I told you the story, I in no way did. That is because this book was literally one thing after another, and I mean that in the on the edge of your seat, can’t wait to the turn the page way.

Obviously this story is intense and will have you dying to learn more, literally up until the last page. However, it is also so much more. I am so impressed with how JJ has developed these characters, all of them, not just Liam and Melody. When we first met the family we were given a brief rundown on them all, and I learning how they have changed in the year since Melody joined the family was fantastic. Melody didn’t change everyone she opened them up to be who they already are, she gave them a voice, an outlet, and freedom to be themselves.

I absolutely loved how Melody and Liam’s relationship developed. We have two people who were always more concerned with themselves and the end game, that now love and put the other first. This isn’t a love story, but the love story between these two makes my heart swoon. I loved seeing how they worked, lived and grew together. I enjoyed how Mel was able to open her heart to love and the changes she went through throughout the story. The old Melody would have handled things so differently and I love how JJ brought about the changes at the right time.

"You are mine! You are so hell bent on reminding me that you belong to no one but yourself. But that’s bullshit. It’s my last name attached to yours. You belong to me! And I belong to you…”

This book made me crazy tense. I felt like I was in the story and with every turn I wanted to know what happened, how things would play out. I can’t even begin to imagine what will come next in American Savages, but I am so excited to see how things are resolved. JJ McAvoy continues to blow me away with her writing, if you enjoyed Ruthless People you will absolutely love The Untouchables.

Book 2 continues a year later with Liam & Mel ruling the newly merged family with an iron gun. Like the first book, it's told in multiple POV's so it's more of a book about the family as a whole with several storylines running at the same time. Still as crazy and ruthless as before, the great banter and outrageous behaviour is still a theme throughout this instalment.

Happily married, a spanner is about to be thrown into the works when Liam discovers a secret that has been hidden from Mel her whole life and he struggles with the knowledge that this might be the one thing that might finally break her, but when Melody discovers the truth she is out for blood. Nobody lies to Mel and she is determined to find out why the mother she thought was dead is trying to destroy her and the Callahan's. Not only that but they are campaigning to get Olivia's father into the White House, plus run the drug business at the same time. What I enjoyed most was the strengthening of Liam & Mel's marriage, and the way her softer side was able to shine through when they left their dark world behind and it was just the two of them together.

With side stories from his brother Neil and Olivia, cousin Declan and Coraline, Sedric, and several other new characters, this is a story packed with action and suspense. This was great at first, I was highly entertained for the first half and I specifically loved how Olivia got her revenge on her attackers from High School. Unfortunately, I seemed to get lost along the way and I felt there was too much going on at the same time and I'm sad to say I felt bored during the last third of the book.

Thankfully things picked up at the end because there was a HUGE cliffhanger that I'm still left thinking about which sets book 3 up quite nicely. I would recommend this for readers who loved Ruthless People but if you are looking for more romantic development between the main couple then you may be disappointed because I felt there wasn't enough. If you love action and suspense, then go for it.

Great love only equaled great pain...

Melody and Liam, are picking up the pieces from the blow the family received, trying to find the one responsible, the one who thought they could fuck with them and live to tell the tale. But as the secrets of the past come undone piece by piece, one thing is for sure, there are old-aged rules to live by and by not knowing, or more like not caring about them, they have upset the balance in the underground world they strive to rule. By joining the Giovanni and Callahan family, they have more power than they should and now that they are trying to get one of their own into the White House, someone even more powerful is trying to stop them by any means necessary.
Why were our lives so fucking complicated? All I wanted to do was sell drugs, make love to my wife, and rule in peace.

The Untouchables is seriously unlike anything I have ever read, so many themes but all equally addictive. It has the snarky-witty-sarcasm that makes you smirk and laugh...
"You and I wife, are going to have a chat later."

"Code for you fucking me angrily?" I smiled and he took a deep breath before kissing me hard.

"Shut up and let me be pissed at you," he said when he broke away.

...erotic scenes that make you hot, because let's face it nothing it hotter than angry sex...
"The first time I kissed you, I was shot in the thigh. The first time we had sex, I was shot in the arm. You seem to like me bloody, Mrs. Callahan."

...suspense to keep you on edge...
"I will get out of this. I will kill you, and I will protect my family the same way I always have. I'm Melody Nicci Giovanni Callahan, I don't run away. I destroy everything in my path, which includes you."

...and a strong sense of family which enforces your own loyalty.
They would learn, all of them. Here is Ireland, back in the States, and all across the globe. This wasn't a game. This was our fucking family, and nothing trumped family.

There are multiple POV's, not to the point of confusion, since it is outlined who's head we are in at the beginning of each chapter, but to the point of bringing you into the fold more...making you understand the ways of their world, the decisions behind the choices and the fine line between love and hate.

We read on as we watch Mel continue to struggle to melt the ice in her heart; slowly she opens up to not only Liam but shows, however slight, of affection to the family. Of course this is all done in typical Mel style, which I have grown quite fond of.
"Yes, I know you love me," he whispered, kissing down my chest. "I know you don't say it often, but I don't forget that you do, nor do I not feel it, ever. Even when you shoot me."

Liam is continuing to lead the family, but he is spreading himself too thin, between the threats, the White House and the business he has more than enough on his plate. But this is what he was born to do, born to be...
"Says the man with anger management issues." "

I do not have -" I stopped when she grinned. "If people didn't always make me angry, there would be no reason for management."

This is one of those series that will forever stay with you, only because it is so unique, I didn't have to read back (even after a whole year passed) to remind myself of what happened; it was like falling for it all over again and confirming why I loved it to begin with. I love the feeling of getting so lost in a book, wanting it to never end, but addicted to the mess of their lives, entertained with their methods of dealing with their problems. But at the same time as much as I wanted peace for them, I didn't want it to end, and I swear I jinxed myself because I got closer and closer to the end, I began to worry where and when it was going to leave off and how.

I do have to say thought that I honestly hope there is more to the past than the rules of balance, it just felt small in comparison to all the pain and suffering that was caused by it. However that ending, oh my god, had me ranting...wanting needing revenge, I need to see people pay, I need to see people put back in their place and I needed to see the King & Queen rule again. American Savages (Ruthless People #3) March 19, 2015, can't get here soon enough, although I should be thankful that I don't have to wait a year (like I did with this one) to continue on.

The Untouchables is the second part in a three part Mafia series about Ruthless People, their family and their enemies.

When on point, The Untouchables, for me, is an entertaining read. I love Liam and Mel, their relationship, their banter and their general demeanour with each other. They light up the page, especially Mel with her feisty, no nonsense, and fierce nature.

Despite my love for the main characters, important elements within the story didn't quite work for me, hence the 3 stars.....

My wishes
The Untouchables peeked my interest in certain places but it wasn't constant, the multiple points of view made the story lose focus and my attention wandered, I wasn't interested in additional characters standpoint throughout the whole story, I wanted more from Liam and Mel. I found myself looking forward to the parts when they were in the action and wanting to skim through the other characters perspectives. I wish the story had been told completely from their point of view, or at least a much larger percentage.

Family is the most important thing but I don't feel this is truly reflected enough in the prose. I was not shown its importance, quite the opposite, which I believe made the premise contradictory in nature.

Some threats felt lacking in substance which unfortunately detracted from the grittiness of the story.

Unfortunately these points were major stumbling blocks to my enjoyment and had a knock on effect to how I felt about the character motivation, which is an important aspect of how a book makes me feel.

On a positive note this story is loved by many and I have to reiterate that Liam and Mel, for me, are a fabulous book couple with scorching HOT scenes that are truly delicious. If you're a fan of the first book and LOVE a good Mafia story, you will may enjoy this.

5 "OMG-You Did Not Leave Me This Way" Stars

 photo TheUntouchables_zpsd17cee2d.jpg

Murder, Corruption, Deception, Sex, Lies, Love and Family. The Untouchables begin pretty much where Ruthless People ended. Melody and Liam are both head of the Callahan Family and very powerful. They rule with an iron fist and they want the White House. They have set their sights with Olivia's father, Senator Coleman. But the one hiccup in their plan is Mel's mother, Aviela DeRosa. There are so many twist and turns to this story. There really is no way to tell you without spoiling the plot. It completely keeps you on your toes as you are not sure what to expect.

I will tell you that Mel and Liam and their love/hate bickering is absolutely incredible. It is snarky, edgy, sexy, sarcastic and loving. They each tell it like it is and don't hold back. Their sex feeds their fire and well as calms it. In the year that they have been married, their relationship has grown. While they respect the hell out of each other, they have grown to count on one another and to love one another. Mel has become His Heart, His Soul, His Family......
 photo 81a6381cd20eba51bf0bde1101a5860f_zpseee7b471.jpg

Mel is still someone you do not want to mess with. She is Ruthless, Fierce, Loyal, Sexy and Very in Love with Liam. She is not openly loving but she has her moment, watching her expose her vulnerably is touching as she really doesn't know what love is suppose to be.
 photo 73620d2378378475e33ada86e78bb1c7_zps0decd813.jpg

Liam is Sexy, Smart, Powerful, Determined, Confident, Loyal, and Very in Love with Mel. He rules Chicago along with Mel but they must face many obstacles that want to destroy them. No one will take his family from him. It will happen over his dead body.

 photo b657da9cf799e10f5a47c021453173fd_zps8787dd60.jpg

We are fortunate to get POV's from all the family members- Sedric, Evelyn, Neal, Olivia, Declan and Coraline. I was a little leery at first just trying to keep everyone straight but as the story went on I relished getting everyone's thoughts.
 photo TheUntouchables2_zps06c00a7f.jpg

This book is gritty and holds nothing back with murder, drugs and vengeance. Being untouchable is just an illusion people like us create to intimidate others. Everyone has a weakness.

In all families, whether good or evil, love is always present. You may not be threatened with your life if you mess up but family is what it is in the mafia....
Rule One: You kill for family. You die for family. Because you can't trust anyone else.

The last 15% had me in knots. The ending is heartbreaking, suspenseful, and I just kept saying to myself when I finished....- I need American Savages I Need American Savages I Need it NOW!!!

I loved this book and all that it gave me. The complexity of the story amazed me and I fell more in love with the family as I got to really know them better. I truly cannot wait for American Savages. I will be happy to see what happens but I will also be sad that it will be over. The Callahan Family has weaseled their way into my heart. I remember another family, The Sopranos who did the very exact same thing.

JJ, you are....

4 SEX, MURDER AND MAYHEM STARS

Well, I liked going back to the crazy mayhem of the Callahans but I did have a hard time remembering some of what happened in book 1 and who was who. There's a lot of these fantastic yet psychotic characters, each with their own issues, angles and agendas...

There were multiple POVs and side stories going on and while entertaining, I found it distracted from Liam and Melody (yes, I'm in it for the homicidal duo) and at times, I really didn't care.

 photo UT_zpsea781ee2.jpg

I LOVED the first book; it was among my favourites for the year. Book 2 was good but it wasn't as riveting. It took me a lot longer than usual to read this and part of it was RL getting in the way but also, I was a bit blasé at times with what was going on.

 photo UT2_zps30baa989.jpg

Needless to say, there was lots of this...

And this

And truth be told, A LOT of this...

I realize that this was a natural progression for this story. It ended with a brilliant cliffhanger that didn't leave me angry (because I'd have to wait) but anxious for the final book. In my opinion, this book was the bridge in the story to get from the beginning to the end and so there were lulls but the last part of the book promised so much!!

4 CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY Stars

I love this series and I loved loved loved Ruthless, so when I found out there would be more Liam and Melody, well I WAS ALL OVER THAT!

The Untouchables reminds me a lot of Consequences, in the sense, there’s so much that goes on. So many players are involved and EVERYONE is connected and you just want to figure out who is who, who is loyal, who is a rat and who will die.

I was taken aback by the tone and pace of this one. It’s a little slower and more detailed. I’m still a little irritated by everyone telling me they want to kill each other (rather than just doing it), but other than that, I still get more of Liam and Melody that I love.

The thing that I really loved about The Untouchable was the extra POV’s. I usually hate it, but this time, it worked for me. I really liked reading from the family’s POV. Yes, it can be a bit confusing, but to me it adds more to the story and it kept me interested. I kind of want the side characters to get their own story (maybe future book?!).

Liam and Melody run an empire. They are the big bosses, but of course they have many obstacles to overcome. Melody’s mother is one of them. I liked that there was one focal point to the book and it was to capture Melody’s mother and kill her.

Sometimes the simple plots are the best and this one was great for me.

I loved that I still got the witty and funny banter between Liam and Melody. They have been married for some time now and love each other, but somehow the relationship (to me) is still fresh and great to read. They are still playful and still condescending to each other. I love how Liam loves Melody and I love that even though Melody doesn’t want to, she loves Liam back. Even though they are cold blooded killers, it’s really cute.

Melody does become a bit vulnerable and it gives me a side of her I really liked. I felt like she was a bit more human and you really felt for the girl. But she’s still of course is hardcore and very awesome.

There’s a lot that goes on even though there’s a simple plot. I found at some points it did drag because of all the side plots, characters and craziness, but eventually we get to the heart of the book and it really takes off.

When you are done, you will be wowed, shocked and begging for the next book. I simply can’t wait.

Pretty much me while reading The Untouchables.
I wasn’t sure what was coming, but I knew it was coming straight from hell.

Everything Melody Callahan has ever been told about her past is a lie. Her father lied. Her husband lied. But like all secrets…they come out. Not only is her mother, Aviela, alive but she won’t stop until she tears down everything Liam and Melody have spent the past year building.

I don't want to elaborate on the storyline because, with all the twists and turns this book took, it'll be a lot to chew through and I'm 102% positive I'm going to spoil something. It's a gift.

I have a love/hate relationship with these characters. On one hand, I love how loyal they are to each other. They feel so passionately for one another and aren't afraid to fight their way on the top of the food chain. They'd do anything for family and power.
Family is family, even when you wish they weren’t.

On the other hand, their moral compass is just about nonexistent. They don't flinch at slaughtering anyone in their way to get what they want. It's as if life has no value to them, only their own and their loved ones. I'm both disgusted and interested in these characters. It's almost like a gross fascination. I know they're going to make plenty of shitty decisions, and yet, I can't look away.
“Until I’m dead - and only when I’m dead - am I out of this game. Until then I fucking own you. Are we clear?”

I still don't know if I like Melody or not. There were times when I got tired of her need to make sure everybody knew she dominated. I understood if someone was disrespecting her because she was a women and all she should be doing is making sandwiches and cleaning the blood off her husbands shirt. I was all for her demonstrations of, i'm better, faster, and smarter than you. But by this point, Liam and the family know you're the Queen Bee. We get it. They get it. Riddling the whole family in bullets and walking around handing everybody their balls got tiring after a while.
To her credit, though, we did see a softer, funnier side to her. I just wish we got more of that.

I love the fact that big, bad Liam is wrapped around Melody's finger. He would do just about anything for her and it melts my heart. He has plenty of faults don't get me wrong, and one scene in particular really jumps out at me where you really see that these guys are really fucking shitty human beings.
“Why were our lives so fucking complicated? All I wanted to do was sell drugs, make love to my wife, and rule in peace.”

Then again, I didn't pick this series up for it's strictly moral and righteous characters.

Each character was developed further and the alternating POVs did a lot in giving us some variety in perspective and an inside track to the insanity going on in the cabeza.
“It is not enough to stare up the steps, we must step up the stairs.”

What keeps me coming back to this series is 1) the hot sex 2) the captivating storyline and 3) pretty awesome, yet deplorable characters. This book has everything. Angst, humor, steam, violence, plot. You name it, it's in there. I also love those quotes at the beginning of each chapter. Really nice touch.

And holy hell that ending. That cliffhanger stunned me stupid. The fuckery that's going to go down in book 3 is intense. I can't wait to watch them suffer.

I don't know how it's possible but this book was better than the first one and the ending totally rocked my world!

description

Before you dive in this one you have to read the first book in this series and if that one is to much for you then it's guaranteed that you won't make it to this one. But no worries...this series isn't for the faint of heart or the ones that can't stand a little (imaginative) blood :P

description

The Untouchables picks up a few months after the ending of the first novel and everything is going as Mel and Liam planned, except one little detail:

From there everything goes on in true Callahan tradition with torture, murder and a little bit of blackmail on the side...ohh and of course...

description

I must warn you that given the fact that all the books in this series are linked this one is definitely not what you would call a HEA. I don't want to spoil you're read by telling you what will happen I just want to prepare you for the fact that the ending fucks you up a little bit and if you can't stand it than it's better to wait for the next book and read them together...

That being said I just have to rap this up with a little passage for the book that I just loved and that all guys should keep in mind :P

So Sedric tells Liam:

"My poor, poor son. Have you not learned? Women don't listen, they talk. Listening is our job. In turn, we get sex, children and food" :P

How can i even start this review? What can i really say about this book? What can i even write about J.J. McAvoy's writing skills?
Will it be enough? I don't think so.

The book i just finished was in critical terminology, a "mindfuck". Dear God, i hope for an ARC, of the American Savages, because i'm not sure i can survive the waiting, until March 19th.

The plot is as breathtaking, stunning, flamboyant, extreme and a little spine-chilling, as in the first book. Only in this one, everything is better.. Mel and Liam make an incredible duet, which you have no other choise but to love..

Melody!! Now a Callahan, always a Giovanni, Melody is still my favorite female book character.
She is bigger than words, cold, dictating, highly intelligent, crafty, protective, possesive and formidable of course.

Liam in this installment is painted with much more flatering colors than in the first book. He has grown, he has wised up, and now working "peacefully" with Mel on his side makes him far more dexterous and agile than he will ever be on his own.

The story is centered around Aviela's existance. Yes Mel's mom is alive, murderous and hides too many secrets. Some of them will be too big and will change everything we ever thought we knew about Mel's past..

But also the book delivers an insightful trip for the whole Callahan clan. Multi-POV,supplements the storyline and helps the reader to delve even for a while, into everyone's life and earn a connection with all the main characters.

I don't want to spoil, so i will leave it at that. Overall the book is amazing, you need to read it, if you ever read the first one and it surely goes out with a BOOM.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- Multi POV, but mainly, Liam and Mel.
- Adriana and Antonio. Such a tragic story.
- If i had Olivia in front of me, i would take a page out of Mel's book and make beg for death to come.
- Coraline and Declan are finaly working on their relationship.
- Wake up Neal and kill the snake you are married to.
- Liam is such a great father.
- I love his parents.
- Melody in the end makes a big sacrifice, but i'm sure she has a bigger plan.
- Also i'm sure Liam has one too.
- The rules were a funny element..
- I kept highlighting quotes and even whole scenes, all the time.
- This Scooter guy needs a good lesson..

NOPE! Did not want a cliffhanger on this one….so now I sit and wait for HEA…be it bloody, swear infested, and morally corrupt…I want it, so I wait!

Well, let’s just say the crazy Callahan’s are back. The combining of the Italian and the Irish powerhouses gave us Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan in all there dark glory…Now united in mind, heart and “soul".

 photo PhotoGrid_1422161490105_zpsxv976y0f.jpg

“Our troubled journey so far all seemed to be just a series a mistakes and unfortunate circumstances.”

Stronger than ever? Can no one stop the force the Callahan’s bring together? Perhaps there are people more Ruthless than the two!

So after the angst and the bomb drop from book one, J.J. McAvoy starts this journey as a war…a struggle to maintain power…a vow to stay on top…a fight to just survive. Here is a story with non-stop action. So many twists and turns that it is often hard at times to keep up.

 photo PhotoGrid_1422197471410_zpsxq2yqcvk.jpg

Multiple POV’s lead to increased insight into the lives of Melody and Liam. Everything is setting up or leading up to the bloody battle and betrayal of a cliffhanger!

I LOVED the whole damn thing. This series is one of those reads that you either jump on board and cheer or you roll your eyes and walk away. For me, I am a Callahan fan! There is no one more “ruthless” than the sexy Liam…

“I’m Liam Fucking Callahan! I don’t meet anyone halfway. They bend my way!”

Well, I take that back…there is Melody! This woman is fabulously horrid! A cold-blooded bitch of sorts…she has fallen in love, and this makes her even more lethal! While the power, the money, the respect are ingrained into her being…she has something now that she needs above all…her “husband”

 photo PhotoGrid_1422197723359_zpsvsiwoxnj.jpg

“Great love only equaled great pain… eventually that’s why Liam was going to have to die after I did.”

If I had to complain, I wanted 400 pages of Melody and Liam. Whether shooting bullets, throwing down, or filling one another up, I love every minute of their psychosis! There is plenty here that was irking me…Olivia can die…Neal needs bitch slapped…Evelyn needs a valium…I could go on and on. But, at the end of the day, I am fully invested in this series. I love the complete insanity of it all. I love the soft and harsh contrast of Melody and Liam, especially those precious moments of honesty when they look at one another...

 photo PhotoGrid_1422197763821_zps6axqngo1.jpg

For me, this book was better than book one! I know that the conclusion will be bloodier than ever and I CANNOT WAIT FOR MELODY AND LIAM TO GET RUTHLESS! It is going to be epic!

Welcome back in Crazyland. Welcome back in Liam and Melody's world where everything and everyone is insane. Prepare to buckle up for the ride of your life.

The Untouchables picks up where Ruthless People ended. I have to say after nearly seven months I had some problems to return into this world. It was hard to remember all the people and their interactions with each other. During the first 15%, sometimes I had no idea who was who and what they were talking about. Thanks to Rebecka in our BR with the Canaries, it became easier to remember most of the characters.

description

I'm sure you've heard it all before but this story is not a typical love story. Those who read and remember Ruthless People know that Liam and Melody are not a traditional couple, they are first and foremost both mafia bosses... and they rule the world or at least for the moment their world.

But because nothing is enough, they want more, always more. They want to control everybody and they want to control the free world.
In order to reach their goal, they need family because "family, for us, was everything, but it was also the one thing that could destroy us"

You are supposed to trust family but when so much around is falling apart and when everyone even the closest person to you can be questionable... what do you do?

description

There's one constant in this mad world: Liam and Melody

description

Both of them are coming from a long way. Liam is probably the sweet one, the one who needs attention the most. Being the Boss is not easy for him because he has to be merciless but at the same time he is the one who has to stick all of them together. Nevertheless, he has one weakness: his wife

description

Melody has grown up a lot in the past month. She is still the fierce woman everybody should fear but she can also show her gentle side to her husband.

description

I was glad to see Liam and Melody's relationship evolves. I know she protects herself a lot and let me tell you that if you loved her in book 1 you are going to adore her here!
The moments they have together show how much they share now. I loved Liam's possessiveness and I loved Melody's ability to let things go with him. You can feel they love each other in every scene you get to read. Their chemistry keep growing and the sex is sizzling.

description

But The Untouchables is so much more than only them. The story will go beyond your expectations. The different point of views will make you stay on the edge, wondering why you need these views, why their opinions matters so much that the author decides to put it in the book.
Being in Evelyn and Sedric's head was priceless! It shows the book can be funny at times.

Now I certainly can't wait for the American Savage!!

Can I give this more than 5 stars? I think it deserves it.

I have...absolutely no words for how I am currently feeling
none...at all

Holy fuck...this book was insane. I thought the first book couldn't be topped. I was apparently lying to myself. This one was so much more violent, and awesome. I loved every page!! There were a lot of things that had me second guessing myself. I've never read anything like this series before. This series is seriously amazing.
My poor emotions were all over the place....
I was on the edge of my seat, gripping my kindle so hard I thought the screen would crack.
I was throwing said kindle down, in anger....
I was putting it down so I could take a minute to breathe.....
I hugged it to myself when I smiled, and I was hugging it to myself harder when I wanted to cry.
OMG THIS FUCKING BOOK

When you read a cliffhanger from fucking hell, you usually, immediately, want to jump into the next book....I can't do that...I need a day or two to freaking breathe. This book absolutely killed me.

“You love me, you hate me, make up your damn mind, wife. I’m getting whiplash.”

Melody and Liam are baaaack and they’re back with a vengeance!!! You know when you love the first book in a series? When it knocks you on your arse with how much you enjoyed it? Then you wait patiently for the next book excited but worrying if it will live up to your expectations? Well, we were like that with The Untouchables. We wondered if the momentum, excitement, high energy, passion, mayhem and sheer craziness could be matched in this next installment and we’re giddy with excitement because it ABSOLUTELY DID!! And then some!!!! We bloody LOVED The Untouchables and this series is heading towards being one of our all-time favourites! We can’t even describe how much we love EVERYTHING about this series!!

“Rule number six: Sometimes in order to win, you have to lose.”

JJ McAvoy delivered! Boy did she deliver! We sometimes find the second book in a trilogy becomes a somewhat filler story but not in this case. Wow! We were exhausted by the end and left gagging for American Savages!! Our hearts and stomachs were left hanging and we’re ticking off the days for the final instalment. We NEED it now!!

‘We were business people who sometimes had to bash a few heads in to make sure things go done.’

There was action aplenty, heat in abundance, thrills, spills, chills, suspense, mayhem, destruction, betrayal, lust, love, violence, high energy, excitement, passion, humour and emotion. Yep, everything we’ve come to love about this series was all there in The Untouchables, what a ride it was.

‘He made me feel safe when I never realized I needed to.’

The author has a way of cleverly weaving all the characters voices throughout her story and by hearing their thought processes she allows us a behind the scenes to look at what is transpiring amidst the chaos around us thus adding multiple layers to the story in the most flawless of ways.

“She makes everyone into a monster so she can feel better about herself.”

JJ McAvoy delivers her story in such a way we felt as though we were watching a movie unfold before our eyes as we switched from scene to scene so seamlessly. JJ barely gives us time to catch our breaths before she has us gasping at the next unfolding surprise and shock.

“And when I hurt, somebody else gotta feel my hurt. It’s what makes my world go ‘round.”

In The Untouchables, Mel and Liam are adjusting to married life in their own unique way and trying not to kill everyone around them. They have family issues to deal with, drugs to move, and ghosts from the past emerging – all while deaths, revenge and duplicity surround them. Well it’s all in a day’s work for the warring Callahan’s and we inhaled every heart stopping moment!

‘She was more than the gun in her hands, and the blood under her heels, and I wanted to know more’

We really felt the growth in Mel and Liam’s relationship in this instalment and it’s building at a pace that allows us to truly experience the shift in their feelings. Liam…..oh that man! So full of commanding strength yet with an endearing vulnerability and wow does he love his woman or what? Mel and Liam may be ruthless; they may be cold blooded killers, drug dealers and run a murderous villainous empire but there is no denying the love between these two. We felt every heartbeat and racing pulse.

‘The problem with loving someone that much was the fact it hurt ten times more to lose them. Great love only equaled great pain.’

We ate this book up! This book CONSUMED us both from the first to the last page! We haven’t been this entertained and excited in quite some time and we couldn’t move, couldn’t think, couldn’t do anything until we’d finished this book so we could discuss it over the phone! To say we’re hungrily awaiting the final instalment is an understatement. WE CAN’T WAIT for more in this murderous, intriguing thrilling journey where love, passion and loyalty lies at the very heart.

I really enjoyed the first book but this one was truly disappointing!!
1-melody was too much in this book she was just shooting every one and everything it was like giving a 5 year old a GUN!
2- Liams only character trait was how he likes to sleep with melody.
3- oh my god im just tired of hearing 100 times in each page how Callahans are scary .oook we get it
4- the beginning was cool but it defineitly could be 200 pages shorter!!!
I hate that authors make book longer just because of the money it kills the plot!!!!!

In book two of the trilogy Liam and Mel’s story continues with some twists. The mother that she once thought dead has resurfaced, but it isn’t a loving reunion that she appears to be after. A contracted marriage was supposed to merge two families to the top of the mafia world, but is now threatening to be the very thing that can destroy them. Just as the Callahan’s finish one mafia family off, they have another one to battle. The Callahan’s rise to power is nearly complete, the white house in reach; can they unravel all the lies to find the clues in time?

I won’t go deep into the plot of this particular book because there is just too much to try to put into a few words without giving anything away. But I can say that the author does a brilliant job with keeping you on your toes. Much like with book one, we continue to get small glimpses into the other characters along the way. We see what drives them, their loyalties and their jealousy. But what I think I loved the most was watching the transformation of Mel. No doubt she is still a complete bad-ass, but she begins to open herself up more and more with Liam. The only one that has gotten her to fully drop her guard.

Also much like book one, the focus on book two isn’t so much the climatic twists, but the build up to those moments. Not every day in the life of a mobster is bloodshed, and this remains true in this story. The connection to these characters grew so deeply in book two. Even those that had not yet earned my trust had seeped in, still leaving me leery.

Although book two wraps up a considerable chunk of the story – the conclusion is being set up to be one helluva action packed ride. I feel stumped. Usually the authors are able to give you enough foreshadowing to predict a bit of what will occur. Little clues or obvious ones that allow you to make a guess at the way the story will end. In this case, JJ McAvoy avoided this, leaving me wonder just how much the wait for book three is going to kill me.

Brilliant job. Not only is the writing superb, but the storyline has been fantastic. I was worried that the pace of this story could end up being a bit too slow for book two, but I think all that just led to the anticipation of the moments when it went from casual to intense. I can’t wait to see what is in store for both Liam and Melody in book three!

Untouchables1

The Untouchables was a great follow up from bk1. Set in a world filled of cunning, ruthless, and vindictive people, Melody has now sealed her fate as the wife of Liam and is feeling the full effect of what her (and his) choice entails.

Author J.J. McAvoy really revvy’s up the stakes as a lot is going on in this book, including-- a delicate marriage on the line, characters withholding key information, hidden motives-politics-alliances-and/or agendas coming into play; as well as unsavory dealings and deadly liaisons who will go through all means necessary to maintain, surpass, and destroy in means to accumulate ultimate wealth and power.

It was truly a dog-eat-dog world meets us against all the worldXcome what may feel!! Definitely kept the plot and execution up the ante!! I highly recommend this read to all readers who love mafia romances!!
