When I finished reading "Finding Focus" by Jiffy Kate, I was left with an aching hum through my soul. A bit dramatic, right? Well you try grasping the truth that your new favorite book just ended. And there are several reasons why this book just jumped to #1 in my heart.

The story is quite well written. That's a key factor for me to even continue reading a book. It is smooth, eloquent, and it flows from scene to scene with ease. There's details that have you capturing the image in your mind, finding your own focus of this Louisiana tale. I'm sure I'll be visiting the inspiration of the Landry home soon just because of the beauty that was written. Also, the characters were easy to fall in love with from each description. I felt like I knew each one personally by the end.

Dani and Micah are not your quintessential staring couple. Dani is not the weak woman looking for a man to rescue her. She has had a few bumps in her road of life, but she is smart, witty, kind, and feisty. She has a passion for photography and for cooking. She is not without her faults, but they are real faults that you or I may have as well. Then there is Micah, my new book boyfriend. He's that southern boy dipped in hotness, wrapped in sass, and sprinkled with charm. He has a past that creeps up from time to time, but it doesn't stop him from getting what he wants. Their romance is quite the slow burn, but I could not have wanted it any other way. By the end, their love has turned all the negative to ash and the good starts sprouting through.

No story is great without its supporting characters. This story has plenty! From the woman who birthed Micah in all her Queen of the South Mamabear Majesty to the best friend that keeps Dani focused and loved, these people won me over with their first lines. It felt just like home should be. My personal favorite is Deacon, brother of our leading man. He is a dimpled sweetie with that Landry charm to boot. I could gobble him up with several biscuits. Spinoff please ladies!

With this story based in the south, I needed to get out pen and paper to take down all the new foods I wanted to make. There is nothing like some good Louisiana gumbo. Also, now that I know what a pocket is, I'm trying that as well. Deep fried deliciousness for 1 or 2, as I may share. So much of this story is centered around recipes and food, how it brings us together, shows us love, and even teaching about life while making cathead biscuits.

“Someone once said life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, take another shot.” This was my absolute favorite line of this story. It holds so much truth to it. So when things are not working out for me, I'll just take another shot at this book so I can read of love, family, and finding love through the sadness.

This one was not for me. (This weird tendency for adult American males to live with or near their mothers- they somehow never really grow up- which I seem to be encountering in so much CR lately, is totally killing my buzz. A new shelf is required: mummy-boy-man-child.)
So the man-ho Southern boy meets the NY chick and is reformed. The chick plays the doormat to her cheating, egotistical boyfriend of way too many years but finally cottons on to the fact that- shock horror- she might be better off with the immature but sweet good ole boy.
But it took way too long and had too much unnecessary stuff in between for me. I just lost interest along the way.

I have to say, this was a sexy story with just the right amount of humor. It had me cracking up!

Sheridan (Dani) hasn't had the greatest year, yet when an opportunity falls on her lap that might lead to her big break, she takes it. Little does she know that this opportunity will be life changing!

Dani's opportunity to get reacquainted with her southern roots was not only cute, but also refreshing—especially when you compare it to the life she was living in New York. I could not stop laughing at what she "heard" on her first night at the hotel she was staying at.

Micah—sexy, southern manwhore—knows how to take care of the ladies, but that's not the only thing he's good at. He and his brother, Deacon Landry, are not only southern gentlemen but sexy businessmen. When Micah lays eyes on Dani, he knows his love for the female population just dwindled down to one…

The chemistry between Dani and Micah is sizzling. I loved how Micah was there when Dani went through an event that left her devastated. This was a beautiful, funny story of friendship that turns into love, and a sweet tale of believing in yourself and going after what you want! ~ Kara, 4 Cute stars

So, here's the thing—Jiffy Kate has me completely HOOKED on Sheridan and Micah. The I-want-more-right-now-or-I'm-not-going-to-survive-another-minute kind of hooked that I feel any time I read a book that's so good it traps me inside the pages.

Sheridan Reed escapes to the south on a freelance photojournalism assignment following a series of unfortunate events in her personal life. Originally from the region herself, Sheridan returns to her roots, falls in love with the Landry family and their plantation, and gets wrapped up in the charms of the youngest Landry son, Micah. Their chemistry is palpable, their connection is immediate, and eventually Sheridan has a choice to make: chance it all for love or take the safe road home.

I loved how Jiffy Kate developed the characters in this book. We know where each person stands in the here and now, and then we get small glimpses into the past. Jiffy Kate didn't spend a ton of time on the back story, but just enough to make me as a reader understand why things are the way they are, and appreciate how things ended up with the story came to a close.

Another thing I loved about the characters was that all of them, no matter how bit or small of a part they played in the plot, came together to form this amazing cast of people. We have the Landrys, who stand at the front and center of things, but then we also have the people in the town, like Val, and we have the staff at Pockets, and we have the family friends. The world that these two authors created wouldn't exist or be the same without all of the faces they included in it. I've read books before where there's just too many secondary characters milling around, and that took away from the center story for me, but it wasn't like that at all in Finding Focus, and I loved it.

Now, let's talk about Micah for a minute. He's such a charmer. He's sexy, he's got a bit of a playboy streak—which makes him even more desirable in this case—and he's funny. Beneath the surface he's also this incredibly kind, caring, compassionate man, who is capable of so much love. I enjoyed how we got to know him and how Jiffy Kate let us watch him fall slowly, but surely for Sheridan. If I could pick a southern gentleman right off the page and slip him into my own world, Micah wold be the one I'd do that with. He's earned himself a spot on my Top Book Boyfriends of 2015 list for sure.

I loved Sheridan too. She had her issues and things weren't always good for her, but instead of sitting around and wallowing, she approached things with a go-getter attitude and took initiative to make changes and to make things better. She did what was best for her when she was faced with a choice, and I really liked and respected that. I love books with strong female leads, and this is definitely a strong female.

This book had such a great combination of romance and humor. The story flowed well, the writing was descriptive and easy to follow, and I liked the alternating POVs. I honestly didn't want to stop reading when I had to, and probably would have just gone straight through if real life hadn't come a knocking. There were times when, between reading sessions, I would find myself thinking about these characters and thinking about the story. That doesn't happen with every book I pick up, and I give major kudos to Jiffy Kate for their ability to wrap me as a reader so far up in their story and characters.

Go out and grab yourself a copy of Finding Focus today. It's a great read, and I can't wait to see what this lovely author duo brings us next!

Five stars to this book!

"Someone once said life is a like a camera. Just focus on what's important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out, take another shot."

I am so in love with this debut novel by Jiffy Kate. This is one of those debut novels that has you asking, "How can this possibly be their debut novel?" From the moment I picked up this book, I was hooked. What I didn't know or expect was that I was going to fall in love with this story so quickly.

When we first meet up with Dani, she is sort of at a crossroads in her life. She's out of work and things are not going well with her boyfriend. When her boyfriend leaves on a "him" only vacation, Dani really starts questioning the things in her life and what she really wants. So, when Dani's best friend presents her with an awesome freelance opportunity, she can't turn it down! And returning back to the south might just be what Dani needs. The more time Dani spends in the south, the more she is reminded of happier times and a simpler life. She's feeling good about her work and has gotten her mojo back. Unfortunately, her time away is cut short when she has to return home to take care of her boyfriend, who has gotten himself injured. However, returning home has really opened Dani's eyes. Not only is she missing the south and the people she met in Louisiana, but she's also realizing just how different things really are. Things have got to change. Will Dani be brave enough to make the changes she so desperately needs to? You'll just have to read and see for yourself :)

There is so much that I want to say about this book, but I don't even know where to start. Finding Focus is such an exciting debut novel. It is told from dual points of view and is completely captivating. This book just oozes Southern Charm. Finding Focus is smart and well written. It made me laugh, smile, swoon and fall in love. It is impossible to not fall in love with the south and the people that are in it. I fell in love with The Landry family instantly. They are just good people and they make you feel as though you belong. I couldn't get enough of them. I loved the relationship between Micha and Dani. I loved the slow build and how they took the time be friends, get to know one another; before they took things further. And Micha may have had a bit of exciting past when it came to the ladies, but he is anything but a player. He is a true southern gentleman that had me swooning all over the place.

Yes, Finding Focus is a fabulous debut novel and it has totally blown me away. I honestly loved every second of it; from the amazing characters, to the intriguing plot and the southern setting. I just loved it all. This is one of those books that just makes you feel good and leaves you with a big smile on your face. As I'm sitting here typing up my review, my cheeks are still hurting from smiling so much! If you are looking for a sweet southern romance that is light on the drama and will have you swooning all over the place, I highly recommend checking this book out. I for one am super excited to read more from Jiffy Kate. They are definitely someone to keep an eye out for!

I was lucky enough to recieve an ARC copy of Finding Focus. JiffyKate have a way of writing that draws you in and holds your attention so well that you are done before you know it. This book was sweet, sexy, funny, and and so good I couldn't put it down. Before I knew it I was finished.
This book is about a young woman finding her focus in life. sometimes we live our life for others, always trying to please them instead of ourselves. That is just what Dani Reed was doing. After losing her job she takes a freelance job for a magazine that takes her to Louisiana where there is good food, cajun hospitality, and Micha Landry. The Landry boys will make you fall in love with them and their southern charm! Micha is hotter than a Louisiana day in the middle of June! Who doesn't love a man that can cook? Micha is a smoking hot southern playboy with a heart of gold and southern charm and passion that leaves the ladies wanting. Poor Dani doesnt stand a chance!
JiffyKate makes you not only fall in love with the main characters but also the supporting characters. This book will make you think of your own life and loved ones. I loved Annie, she reminded me of my own grandmother and mother.
There are so many good quotes but one of my favorite quotes is
"Sometimes you've just got to be patient and wait for it to come into focus."
"Life is like a camera. Just focus on what's important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don't work out take another shot."

Finding Focus is the debut publication of writing team Jiffy Kate (Jiff Simpson and Jenny Altman). An adaptation from their fan fiction, Southern Comfort, Finding Focus is the romantic tale of Sheridan (Dani) Reed and Micah Landry.

Dani is a gorgeous girl with Southern roots working as a photojournalist in the Big Apple. Unemployed and stagnating in a long term relationship with her boyfriend (WEASEL ALERT), Graham, Dani accepts a freelance assignment from Southern Style magazine. Her job is to document the historic Landry Plantation in French Settlement, Louisiana. Dani has barely unpacked her suitcase when here come the Landrys, or should we say, here comes (ahem) Micah Landry.

Micah Landry is a handsome, well-mannered Southern gentleman — a successful restauranteur, who also seems to do pretty well bringing religion to the female population of French Settlement. Unfortunately for the aforementioned female population, as soon as Micah lays eyes on Dani, he finds his true calling — winning Dani’s heart.

And so begins a delightful courtship, replete with warm, hazy, humid days of long glances and sizzling nights of tender touching. Micah is hard pressed not to act too quickly on his feelings for Dani, as she still maintains an obligation to her ex-boyfriend (WEASEL ALERT), Graham. Micah’s not having any of that and in a move worthy of John James Preston (aka Mr. Big), he swoops in to rescue his lady love. Micah is a keeper — he can kiss me stupid any day.

Along the way, we do meet the entire Landry family and what a pleasure it is to read about these folks. Headed up by Micah’s parents, Sam and Annie, the Landrys are one of those enviable families who play, pray and stick together. The dialogue is witty and hilarious, as one would expect from Jiffy Kate. Here’s Sam giving a priceless bit of wisdom to his son:

“If it’s got tits or tires, it’s gonna require some work . . . And I know that you’re not afraid of a little hard work. So, if this is what you want, work at it. Show her you're serious.” Kindle Loc. 2895 of 3971

Micah’s mother, Annie is the quintessential Steel Magnolia — feminine, strong, makes the meanest gravy and biscuits in town, and, if need be, will strike you down with a “bless you heart” that will make you want to head for cover. Who doesn’t want to be under the protective blanket of love this woman offers?

Finding Focus is a delightful romantic novel, but far more than that — it’s a love letter from Jiffy Kate to their beloved Southern heritage, and a Valentine to their readers everywhere. Well done, ladies, well done.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Thanks to the authors for the book in exchange for a honest review.

Dani is adrift right now. She lost her job and she's not enjoying the relationship she's in anymore. Especially since he's leaving on vacation by himself. Sureeee by himself! Her best friend calls in the nick of time with a freelance job in Louisiana. It was the perfect thing for her at the time. Bag packed she set off on what she hoped was the first in many jobs. Being in Louisiana is just like being home, the area soothes her soul.

Her job is to photograph the Landry Plantation. She falls in love with it, its beautiful and it makes her feel more alive than ever. The house and the people make her feel right at home. Anne Landry is the mom and she's in charge. Dani can't help but love her and everyone there. Then she meets Micah. She doesn't know his name just yet but our first sight of him isn't in the most flattering light. He's a bit of a playboy, but something about the way he is is intriguing to Dani.

Micah makes not apologies for the way he lives his life. He's single and young, why shouldn't he live the way he wants? He meets Dani and he wants to 'straighten' up. He likes her but he knows he's got to take it slow with her but she's worth it!

Life works in mysteries ways, now that Dani has experienced true family she is hesitant to go back to her dull life in New York. When she goes back she's not happy, in fact she's even more unhappy to be away from everything she grew to love in Louisiana.

I really enjoyed Dani and Micah's story. They were adorable together. Easy and peaceful. I read this one in an afternoon and like always regretted it as soon as I was finished. I tend to read books that I love and get sucked in to. I don't come up for air until I'm finished with them and this was one of those books. Grab it today here. Leave some love in the form of a review!

First time novel from Jiffy Kate has some great moments that I loved though there were a few flaws.

This is a story about Dani, a photo journalist who just lost her job and her boyfriend decided to take off on vacation without her. She is given a chance to write an article for a southern magazine her best friend is an editor for and so she leaves New York and heads to Louisiana. There she is profiling a prominent family in the area who live on a plantation.

Micah is the son of the plantation owners who owns a few restaurants in the area with his older brother. To say Micah is a player would be an understatement but as soon as he meets Dani is taken in by her charm and wants to get to know her better. When Dani’s trip is cut short Micah and Dani form a strong friendship that continues to grow – until the unthinkable happens and Micah races to New York to be there for her. The story continues from there.

I really enjoyed the time Dani and Micah spent together and their love story – especially when they were in the south. They built a true bond and friendship that I thought was true and didn’t feel rushed to me at all. The secondary characters were fun and brought humor to the story – especially Dani’s best friend Piper and Micah’s brother Deacon as well as Micah’s mom. Where the story fell a little short for me was around Dani’s ex-boyfriend Graham. He was definitely the antagonist of the story but we never really got why. There is also a sub-story surrounding Graham that was never explained – it just happened. It threw the story off for me a bit.

Overall a solid first story for this new writing team. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

When I read my very first Indie book about 3 years ago, I absolutely fell in love with it. I've always been a reader and this opened up a whole new world for the reading world. I'm a contemporary romance junkie and I admit a cover snob. When I saw this cover, I knew I needed this book in my hands ASAP. After a friend (thanks, Heather!) contacted me saying "I'd really like you to try this book out," I was SO excited.

Let's talk about Dani.. I absolutely loved her. Sometimes I wanted to shake her but I understood where she was coming from. The relationship she and Piper share I absolutely adored. In fact, I want a book for Piper..Like yesterday ;)
3 words for ya:
MICAH LANDRY. \
S-w-o-o-n.
A true southern gentleman, he loves his Momma, a hard worker, and SAF.
"I still can't believe she's giving me a chance prove myself to her, and I pray to God I don't screw it up."
and this::
"If it's chivalry she wants, it's chivalry she'll get. I'd like to chival her right out of her pants."
AGAIN:::
S-w-o-o-n.
He's everything I love in a book boyfriend and I was literally begging Dani to just jump on.. LOL
I absolutely loved the Landry family. Especially Annie--> "Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit"
I need an Annie in my life. I need a Micah in my life. I need a Piper in my life.. Basically I need to be Dani.

I LOVED this story. I'm a forever fan of Jiffy Kate. Finding Focus was a breath of fresh air. Thank you for bringing what I love about the Indie world back to life. A simple story line that makes me love.. Love.

FIVE STARS!!!

This writing duo was new to me, and this was actually a wonderful read. I know that makes it sounds like I was surprised, but I guess I was. I've come to expect a certain formula in romance books, especially ones that are re-written fanfiction stories. This story completely bucked the system and followed it's own rules.

Sheridan 'Dani' Reed is feeling adrift. After months of feeling less then thrilled with her long term boyfriend, Dani loses her job, sending her to Louisiana to do some freelance work with for her best friend. While visiting the Landry plantation, Dani reconnects with the values from her past while getting to know the incredible Micah Landry and his family.

When we first meet Micah, I was really sure that I was going to hate him. Dani and Micah's first run-in did not paint him in a very good light. I have to give the authors props for completely changing my mind about him. He is incredibly sweet and funny. Once he sets his eyes on Dani, he makes it his mission to have her. But what is he going to do about that pesky boyfriend back in New York City?

Dani and Micah's relationship develops so organically. I love how natural it feels. There is nothing rushed about it, even though it does happen in a relatively short amount of time. I am grateful for the opportunity to read this story and to tell others about it.

For me, Finding Focus is a staple of Southern hospitality and idioms. A well written story that flowed with ease, I became lost in the details of the south that Jiffy Kate drew upon. As a southern woman who takes pride in her heritage, I was enamored by their depiction of the south and what it means to be a southerner. Their characters, well thought out and developed, embodied the principles I was raised upon. The chemistry of land, heritage, and attraction made this book come to life. It’s a great story that doesn’t rush a relationship into existence. Funny and sweet, Finding Focus leaves you believing that love is greater than anything found in fairy tales.

Finding Focus is a charming debut from the duo known as Jiffy Kate. I loved the writing, the southern references and the slow burn of two people reaching out and falling in love. Micah’s growth is lovely to read, and Dani’s slow acceptance of what she truly needs, rather than what she has been told she needs was great. I loved the character Annie and her warmth, and the feistiness of BFF Piper, and the brotherly fun with Deacon. Looking forward to more from this team!

Oh who doesn’t love a good old country boy who loves his mama and his family but can also cook and is a charmer with the ladies? I’m talking about Micah Landry. He owns two restaurants with his brother and has no intentions of settling down. He loves them and leaves them which may be his only flaw really. When his family and their beautiful plantation home is up for a feature in a prominent southern magazine, he wasn’t expecting Dani the photographer with red hair and a body built for sin. Yet that’s not all that attracts him to her it’s so much more there is a pull and he hopes to explore it. When he finds out she has a boyfriend he sticks himself in the friend zone vowing to always be there for her and boy does he come through in a big way.

Sheridan “Dani” feels stuck in her life. She lost her job and her boyfriend treats her like garbage. Always belittling her and making her feel bad because she has a gypsy soul and would love to be a freelance photographer. When she lands in French Settlement on assignment she falls in love with the quaint town because it reminds her of her hometown of Laurel Mississippi. She even falls in love with the Landry family because who doesn’t love them, they are an amazing bunch. When she starts getting close to Micah, she knows she needs to keep it firmly in the friend zone because she loves her boyfriend right? When she is called back home and forced to take care of the idiot who left her for a random vacation that didn’t involve her the truth stares her in the face. Decisions are made and it wouldn’t be possible without Micah.

I love the Landry family with all my heart. What’s not to love. The quintessential mom who cooks yummy meals and loves her family fiercely. Despite having money, they are very grounded and work for what they want no handouts in this family. Deacon is the best big brother if not a little overbearing when it comes to his baby brother. Dani’s only flaw was trying so desperately to see the good in someone and having it tossed back at her time and time again. What I love about Jiffy Kate and their books is that every town they mention from Nola to Baton Rouge to Laurel I have been there! I can picture it so well in my head and that’s an extra bonus. I’m going to binge the rest of this series. I can’t wait for Deacon.

Story of Dani and Micah.

Dani takes an assignment to photograph the Landry plantation (clearly written before 2021) and she meets Deacon and Micah Landry. She's still dating a jerk so shows no real interest in either man but does recognize a connection-friendship with Micah. After jerk BF hurts himself on a vacation (without her - which is never explained) she rushes home to the jerk.

She eventually figures out his jerkiness and Micah comes to the rescue. I wasn't a fan of how quickly she transferred her feelings from jerk to Micah, which is kind of overshadowed because we read Micah's side and know his feelings.

This book was exactly what I needed. A small town, friends to lovers, SLOW burn start to what I know is going to be a fantastic family series. The story is more of a happy for now, but Micah and Dani do get another book. I can’t wait to read more about them and the rest of the Landrys.

This book holds up exceptionally well for being written in 2015.

This book you guys. It warms my sweet little southern heart.

I read this book at the exact moment that I needed to. It found me in a rough moment, in between a book I couldn't finish and when I just needed a happy ending! I've had a hard time finding a good book since finishing Colleen Hoover's It Ends With Us. That book broke me... and this one just helped put me back together. Walking into this story felt like home... it makes me feel like I can travel to LA and walk through the door to the smell of biscuits and gravy, surrounded by family! Ha!

I instantly connected to Dani. Sheridan Reed is a photographer, she looks at life though a lens and sees the beauty in things that most of us miss. She's a southern belle in the big city and didn't realize how much of the south was still in her blood until she got fired from her job... then sent to backwoods Louisiana to do a freelance piece on a grand southern plantation. Coming back south connected her to her roots, and her Granny. Dani's Granny reminds me so much of my Gram - the baking and recipes. That was what I shared with my grandmother and it was bittersweet since I'm coming up on three years from losing her to lung cancer. This book hit very close to home for me.

“I think her recipes are my most treasured possessions. When I read over them and see her handwriting, I feel like she’s right there with me. Sometimes, when I’m missing her the most, I’ll pull one out and just cook. I can hear her voice, feel her presence, and the smells take me back to her kitchen. Those are my happiest memories.”

Enter the Landry family. Annie and Sam, Micah and Deacon... Tucker and Camille, Carter... all the people that welcome Dani with open arms. The cast of characters in this book are just fabulous and super well developed! Best friend Piper, and even her boyfriend, Graham. Bless his heart. I loved to hate him... but everyone else I could picture someone in my life relating to each of them and that was a neat thing to realize. Annie is a lot like my Mother-in-law; super hospitable and cares about others, no judgement at all. Cami was a lot like one of sisters and Piper is a dead ringer for my bestie, Laura.

Dani and Micah had an undeniable connection from the very beginning and it's so sweet to watch that develop as she is learning more about herself and trying to find her focus in life. She's still a little lost after college and being fired... coming home to the south sets her back on a path to happiness.

Best conversation to be had; I literally spit coffee across the room reading this right here:

“Who doesn’t like hamburgers?”
“Vegetarians?”
“Deep down, I bet even vegetarians crave a big ol’ juicy hamburger.” She laughs.
“I couldn’t be a vegetarian. I like bacon too much.”
“Bacon is the gateway meat.”
“The what?” she asks.
“Gateway meat. It’s the one that sucks them in.”
“Them, who?”
“Vegetarians. It’s basically the marijuana of the meat world.”

I also have to mention that I've been wanting a tattoo recently, a compass. Now, I know why and how it would relate to me, my marriage and my life. I know exactly what I want and can't wait to call my artist and get her to draw it up! That was the best part of this book to me - the story behind the story. The heart of it all. So beautiful. I've already started and almost finished the sequel, Chasing Castles, as well. It's Deacon and Cami's story. It's a beautiful mess and I can't wait to finish it and share that review later this month!

Debut novels are like a treasure hunt for me. There is nothing better than reading an author’s first book and learning to embrace their writing style and ideas. Finding Focus was a brilliant collaboration that made me smile like a giddy fool! This book was fantastic, a story that touches your heart and gives you something to hold on to. It is a love story but there is so much more. It is a story of passion, life, and finding where you belong. Maybe it just speaks to me more based on where I am in life, but this book is a must read for everyone and now on my recommendations list, one I will tell everyone to dive headfirst into.

Dani Reed is a beautiful soul. She is a woman who has lost her mojo, longing to find a connection to anything that will bring her soul alive again. She has lost her spark and life has set her on a journey to find it again. This theme throughout the story is a beautiful thing to watch unfold. Seeing this woman embrace what life throws her way and learn to adjust as the hits and misses come barreling towards her was encouraging to read. I loved watching things unfold in Dani’s POV, seeing her struggle with her frustrations and celebrating in her victories.

Every character in this story is brilliant. I loved seeing each and every person and the role they have in this book. The story unfolds in dual POVs. We see both Dani and Micah’s POV of what is happening and how things develop. Each of these primary characters has their own network of friends and family that intertwine and enhances what you read. Meeting the Landry family gives the story a deep rooted sense of home and the South. Their role in the story adds depth and feeling to what you read. Meeting Dani’s people allows the reader to better understand who she is and why she is where she is. There are so many people that weave in and out of this book and each person plays a vital role. There are no unnecessary secondary characters. The cast gives the book a deep family feel, a feel that I absolutely love in my stories!

The romantic storyline is perfect in this book! When the story started I was a bit nervous about where things would lead. Dani is in a relationship and I was curious and nervous about where her interest in Micah, the hero of the story, would ultimately lead the storyline. Any hesitancy was completely unfounded. Jiffy Kate does a brilliant job of developing a romance that is perfect. The story spans so many different realities within different romantic relationships. It shows the good, the bad, and the ugly. We see the highs and lows. We see the beginnings and the ends. In my mind (and I am sure most readers), Micah and Dani are necessary together and watching that unfold was beautiful.

After reading this book, you might feel inspired to find your passion and learn to embrace life in a new way. This book is a story that will make you think about what your passion is and how to latch onto it with gusto. Finding Focus is a story of a woman who feels deeply and runs hard. She takes a step into a life of action, leaving behind the complacency and passive lifestyle she found herself stuck in. Her story is a nudge in the heart to find what you love and run hard for it.

I've been looking forward to reading this book for a long time. There's something about Southern gentlemen and a small town setting that do it for me. It must be because I'm from the South and most men have that charm. Or it could be I love to read about people finding themselves and their bliss. Either way, this book was high on my reading wishlist.

Thankfully Finding Focus didn't disappoint, but surprised me instead. I was expecting something hot and fast but got thoughtful and a slow burn instead. I loved how the story focused not only on Dani, her emotions, and the upheaval in her life, but also on the changes going on in the people around her. I really liked and could relate to her. One of her character traits I really liked was how she able to adapt to different situations. I loved how open minded she was and how dedicated to her craft and ideals. Dani isn't a quitter, she's a fighter and I loved being in her head.

I also loved how the story was told from another point of view. I wasn't expecting to like Micah Landry as much as I did. I mean after all his first meeting with Dani didn't really put him in my good graces. However being in his head allowed me to see the type of man he really was. It wasn't long before I was his biggest supporter. I loved how Micah was with his family. The whole Landry family dynamic was wonderful. I wouldn't mind reading more about the Landrys, in particular Micah's brother I also loved how well this book showcased Southern hospitality.

The story itself will surprise you because it's different. There was more emphasis on Dani finding out what made her happy than a romantic relationship that would satisfy her. Honestly, the story had more of a chick lit feel to it (a genre I love), than a new adult/adult romance as I was expecting. The pacing was interesting, because while it started off fast and maintained that speed throughout the book, there was a point where I was certain the book was going to end on a cliffhanger. It's not that the ending was abrupt, it's just that it didn't fit with the flow of the story. Overall, I enjoyed Finding Focus. It was humorous, hot, and refreshing. I look forward to reading more from the writing duo Jiffy Kate!

A sweet steamy love story

Easy to read and the world the writer(s) built was vivid and realistic.

The intent of this review isn't to tell you what the story is about. It's to let you know why or why not you would like this book.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun sweet love story. Micah is everything you want in a bad boy turned love struck hero. It reminds me of a Jill Shalvis novel but with more cursing and more detailed sex scenes.

Dani as a protagonist is smart and strong. Nothing annoyed me about her which, for some romantic novels, is hard to come by.

There's a few well written steamy sexy moments that will make you fan yourself.

The cons, I would have liked a more fleshed out supporting characters. Deeper storylines for them.

Also, the love story could have wrapped up sooner. We knew both Dani and Micah liked each other because of the duel POV. Because of this, I felt like the ending dragged out a bit. It makes me wonder if it might have been better in a single POV because there's mystery and suspense there. You wouldn't know if Micah had the same feelings until he actually said so. As much as I loved seeing the world through his eyes, the book didn't actually need his side of things.

That aside it's an easy read. Fun. Steamy. Sweet.

Sometimes you need to lose everything in order to find what you really want and need in life.

Sheridan Reed recently lost her job as a photojournalist. Her long time boyfriend decides he needs to go on a vacation alone out of the blue. She has a feeling he is cheating on her as she goes south to do a freelance job for her friend about a plantation and their small town.

She finds herself enjoying her stay in Louisiana as her creative juices start to flow. Sheridan meets co owner of the Landry Plantation playboy Micah Landry who shows her around as the two strike up a friendship.

Not hearing from her boyfriend in weeks, she gets a phone call from his father telling her that he has been in an accident and broke a few bones. That he cannot walk and expects her to take care of him at her apartment. So she finds herself rushing to do a few more shots before her return.

Along the way, he is there for her when she needs a friend despite his feelings for her/ Will friendship turned into love for them along the way? Sometimes we never know what we want until it is not there. A sweet story of not rushing love.

Such a great book!!

I was totally intrigued by the blurb about the book and decided to give it a try, I mean a southern girl going back to her roots and meeting a southern boy....well that can only mean awesome things.
I love Dani & Micah (& the rest of the Landrys)! They way they could banter back and forth from the moment they met was hilarious. I really liked that even though they were flirty, they still had to work to being together. Dani still had to deal with her stupid boyfriend (gah! I want to break his other leg!) & Micah had to mentally prepare himself for wanting to be in a real relationship.
I think what really made this book so great for me was that I thought I could see where it would go and the path that the characters would take but it didn't. I loved that I was shocked at one point and that Dani & Micah didn't do what I expected.
I cannot wait to see what other books these women will write!

Finding Focus is the perfect Southern cure for your cold, winter day. Jiffy Kate weaves a well written, captivating story that will have you craving a charming Micah of your own. There is nothing better than a story that draws you in with strong characters that stay with you long after you’re done reading. The slow burn allows you to truly get to know Dani and Micah. Their journey is sweet, funny, and full of beautiful moments that will make you want to catch the next flight South! Go. Run. Read! 5 Big Stars.

Cute!

I loved this. Dani and Micah's story is a sweet, funny, journey and I'm drooling over the mental image of sweet as f@$king pie, Micah. I needed a good read to make me smile and even through the little (barely there, IMO) bit of angst, this story did just that! I'd love to read more about these two and hope there's more sweet tales like this to come from Jiffy Kate.

I'm beyond proud of my IRL friend, "Kate" for her debut book with her partner in crime "Jiffy". Since I read Dani and Micah's story like I was living it, and loved every turn of the page, I cannot wait for the next one. Brilliant work my friend!
