I feel when someone writes a book, they should do their best to research the topic to the fullest. In this case, I think the author skipped the research part a bit. The author treats Anesthesiology as a step up from a nurse. It is in fact a high specialty, for which you have to do a 4 year residency, and then pass the board exams. So yeah, this would be the more prestigious career as opposed to ER Doctor. Then, in the one email exchange, the author says: "I now work in a plastic surgery clinic called New You that specializes in repairing breasts after they have been removed due to cancer." That just sounds ill informed. It is called a mastectomy, and you can't repair a breast. They reconstruct the shape and size after a mastectomy. Trevor is portrayed as a selfish and childish prick. Patrick looks like a grovelling twat with no self respect. On page 25, the first phone call is made, with the line "Patrick, you sexy fucker..." being in the opening lines. Who says that the first time they speak to someone on the phone, after forming a tenuous e-mail and text relationship? Unfortunately I could only force myself to read up to page 50, having struggled through their first date. Very uninspiring dialogue, and then bam! They BONE! This is just not the book for me.

This book started with an interesting premise and I was initially eager to see what happened with the main characters. Unfortunately for me, as the story unfolded, it did not live up to the intrigue I felt while reading the first chapter excerpt on the publisher’s site.

The story is told in alternating POVs between Patrick and Trevor. Both guys, for differing reasons, have decided to try an on-line match making site as a way to meet compatible men to date. Patrick is a very busy ER doctor who needs someone who won’t resent his unpredictable schedule. Trevor has not lived in Seattle for long and he left behind a less than understanding ex-boyfriend in Chicago. Trevor and Patrick end up exchanging e-mails and developing a nice familiarity between them before setting up an actual meet. I really enjoyed the dynamic here, the use of message exchanges worked to establish banter between the two of them in a manner that had me looking forward to their first actual date. Both characters were likeable, and I had a good sense of where they “were coming from”.

Sure enough, Patrick’s schedule gives them grief before they can even meet, but Trevor is really sweet about their first date being cancelled. They actually meet for the first time when Trevor has a somewhat tragic day at work and ends up calling Patrick, who rushes to be at his side. The pair were able to get away for an entire day the following weekend and it goes amazingly well for them. Wish I could say the same for the remainder of the story because here is where it went downhill for me. Once Trevor and Patrick did actually meet, their dialogue struck me as stilted and missing in depth. I generally enjoy alternating POVs, however these two seemed to cover the same events excessively without conveying a uniqueness or freshness in their thoughts.

I was fine with Trevor developing really intense feelings over the short period of the e-mails, the “rescue” by Patrick, and his first day spent together with Patrick. However, Patrick had expressed thoughts of wanting to move slowly and then suddenly there was sex, sex, and more sex. That, when added to the insta-love on Trevor’s part, did not work for me. The story turned in a direction where it seemed like every thought both men were having involved “cocks filling” or lust crazed actions.

I like to escape, I can suspend disbelief, I certainly like for characters to have sex …however…I was not feeling the connection at the level and circumstances under which all the sex between Trevor and Patrick was presented. It just didn’t ring true compared to where the guys were in life, and what they had seemed to want when the story started. Too much sex happened without advancing character growth, relationship growth or the plot in general. My interest in the story definitely waned.

It also felt like there were many missed opportunities for interesting sub- plots, and sources of conflict that were never cultivated. For example, were there really no more issues that arose, either professionally or emotionally, from the incident at Trevor’s work? At one point Trevor is attacked and injured and there is no follow through on police reports, the criminal case, or possible long term repercussions from Trevor’s injury. Secondary characters, including Trevor’s best friend and an ex, were introduced and then sort of disappeared.

This story got off to a good start. I thought the initial core of the plot had good features, and found Trevor and Patrick to be engaging characters. Unfortunately I felt the story lacked compelling continuation of plot, flowing realistic dialogue and character growth.

3.5 stars for this enjoyable and romantic quick read.

Told in alternating POVs, the story is about Patrick (trauma surgeon) and Trevor (anaesthesiologist), who give on-line dating a try. The story follows the development of their relationship as they tackle building a relationship while dealing with hectic work schedules and face obstacles including violence and jealousy.

On the positive side, the story involved medical professionals which was great. Both the main characters were very likable. The initial conversations via email and text message were cute and well done.

There were some beautiful expressions of love and the romantic in me loved that the sex was not just about the physical but the emotional response each man felt: "I wanted him as close to me as one man could be to another. If he could crawl inside me and we could occupy the same space, it still might not be close enough." and ".....I swear, with all that I am, I saw stars. I saw heaven. I saw love."

There was some drama. There were romantic gestures. There was a happy ending.

On the not-so-positive side, the insta-love was a bit unbelievable. Although I have mentioned this in previous reviews and been told that it really can happen this quickly (almost love at first sight), I still didn't get the sense it was 'real' love for Trevor when he first voiced it. There were also a few sections of the book that were just a little bit drawn out (such as the day out to the vineyards) but although I think this could have been shortened a bit, it didn't really detract too much from the reading experience.

This is a book for the romantics.

"He brought life to me. I was no longer a drone, but a man with hopes and desires. He brought with him dreams for the future and of course, love. Trevor taught me to love." from Patrick about Trevor

"He was the other half of me, the part of me that was happy, full of good thoughts and hopes for the future. And as I watched him, lost in thought, looking in my direction but not seeing me, I couldn't help but appreciate every fight, adventure, and heartache that brought and kept us together. from Trevor about Patrick

Alright, here's the thing. I liked this and I was in the right state of mind for an over-dramatic fluff read. I know some may say this was too sappy and I agree, however, that's what I wanted at the time.

This is the story about Patrick and Trevor. They are both lonely and want to meet someone special, but are not into "the scene". They try out the dating site Gaydate. The thing is though is that Patrick is a doctor, so people automatically think "sugar daddy". Trevor is an anesthesiologist and his last boyfriend left him because of his demanding job (always on call). Patrick suggests that they get to know each other first via email before a face to face meet.

First date = AMAZING! Ferry ride, hiking, wine tasting, first kiss, first blow job, first time realizing you are falling in love, etc. Yeah, you read that right... FIRST DATE!

After that it was a romantic, sappy, I love you, mess ;)

Like I said, this was sap city, but exactly what I needed. Hope others will find they need this mushy-ness too :)

Patrick has never had a real relationship, between medical school and then working at a busy hospital he never really had any time, but he feels it is time to look for someone to share his life with and joins a dating site where he finds Trevor, a man who should understand his work schedule and broken dates. Trevor has been in Seattle for just few months, finding it hard to make new friends he lets his best friend in Chicago convince him to give internet dating a shot, when he gets a message from Patrick he thinks things are looking up, even if Patrick wants to get to know him better before they meet. When Trevor ends up as a patient in Patrick’s ER, Patrick realises his feelings are much deeper than he thought and now he has to fight for what he really wants.

This is a good story that shows the developing feelings of two men and the devotion they both feel as they fall in love. Patrick comes across as a calm, quite man, he is at the stage in his life where he wants a partner to come home to and spend his time off with, but will also understand that his job comes first. Trevor is slightly boisterous and down to earth and wants a partner of his own and he understands the demands of a high pressure job, after all his last relationship failed because of his, when the two men finally meet they hit it off and it is the beginning of a wonderful relationship.

The story is written in both characters point of view, switching between Patrick and Trevor and giving us their own thoughts and feelings throughout the relationship. Each perspective change is clearly marked so we know whose head we are in, we also get a good feel for each character this way and their different personalities come through clearer. The storyline is good but it missed out slightly in certain places, like the reason why Trevor ended up in hospital, it would have been wonderful to have seen Patrick supporting Trevor through a trial and seeing the overall outcome. It would have been nice to see a follow-through of the awkward situation with Colin (Trevor’s ex) and seeing more of Callie (Trevor’s best friend) during his recovery.

Although this story is a wonderful romance, it progressed quite quickly to the ‘I love you’ stage, yes they communicated with e-mail, text messages and phone calls, but they only spent a short time in each other’s company before they plunged into the deep end with their feelings, so although it was naturally done it also felt too quick. The sexually side was hot, loving and nicely written and their feelings for each other shine through. Both characters are nicely written and the ups and downs they go through are great and adds tension to the story.

I will recommend this book to those that love true romances, great characters, a good storyline, hot sex, some angst, a touch of drama and a very happy ending.

Patrick Quinn is a trauma doctor and loves his job. However, his working hours seem to be a serious obstacle for a long-term relationship. Tired of being lonely, Patrick creates a profile on a gay dating webpage and tumbles over Travor's profile. New in town after a breakup, the young anesthesiologist is looking for a boyfriend. After a desastrous date with a man from the dating page, he is doubting it to be a good method to find a long-term partner. But Patrick's message is definitly getting his attention and after a few emails, Patrick and Travor finally see each other.

Perfect Match is a very cheesy story, about these two MC's falling quickly for each other. A few missunderstanding and a life treathing situation are producing a fair amount of drama.

The whole relationship moved a bit fasted and didn't feel all that credible. The writing style itself wasn't bad at all, but the way the author switched the MC's POV was irritating. Whole scenes were repeated from both sides and I got bored reading the same situation twice.

Perfect Match felt like a 2.5 for me, but I will round it up to a 3 star read, as I can't really put a finger on what I didn't like apart the POV aspect and the story being too insta and too cheesy!

Not much really happened. Insta-love, lots of sex and their happy uneventful life. Ok, there was a bit of drama, but it was done rather smooth as well. I didn't like the nickname 'Trick'. At least I finished it. Nothing more to say.

Patrick Quinn is a trauma doctor in Seattle. He has dated quite a bit, but never been in a relationship that lasted longer than a couple of months. He turns to a dating site when he feels like he’s ready to find someone he can spend his life with long-term. Patrick’s profile makes him a hot commodity. He is, after all, a good-looking doctor. There are a few losers along the way, but fairly quickly he is contacted by Trevor, an anesthesiologist who is also looking for love.

The two begin e-mailing back and forth, hesitant to meet each other until they’ve established whether there’s something worth pursuing. When Trevor has a particularly bad day at work and ends up drunk at a bar, he calls Patrick, who comes running to his rescue. Not a particularly auspicious way to start a relationship, but they have an instant attraction that can’t be dampened by the circumstances.

As the two continue to get to know one another, they have a few bumps in the road. Jealousy over ex-boyfriends and time-consuming jobs, to start. Trevor is also involved in a traumatic incident that forces both of them to recognize their strong feelings and decide whether they’re in this relationship for the long haul.
Two hot doctors who find love? What could possibly be wrong with that? Well, a lot. But let’s start with the good things first. My favorite part of the book was Ryan and Damien. They are the two men that Trevor and Patrick meet when Trevor needs rescuing. I liked the world of the biker bar, with Damien and his gang and his attorney “boy,” Ryan. There was a lot of potential there that, unfortunately, was ignored. I think the reason that I was drawn to these characters rather than the MCs was because there was something interesting and contradictory about the two of them, yet they worked. Big biker bear and smart twink attorney. There is something worth exploring. Two almost identical highly attractive doctors? Not so much.

This was the main problem with the book. There’s not a story here. Two men meet. They have everything in common. They’re attracted to each other because, why wouldn’t they be? They’re each smoking hot. The End. Even the major conflict in the book is one I’ve read time and time again. It doesn’t lessen the gravity of the situation that Trevor finds himself in. It just didn’t add anything to the already repetitive and mundane nature of this book. Nothing. Happened. There was a lot of sex. There was a lot of talking. And there were a couple of times when one member of the otherwise perfectly bland couple became inexplicably and irrationally enraged about something the other did (i.e. talked to friends or stayed late at work), but then the argument was quickly resolved.

The other major problem with this book was that it was told in alternating POVs, between Patrick and Trevor. This, in and of itself, is not a problem, but when the one POV ends and the other picks up and they tell the same story again, I take major issue with it. I just heard the story from Patrick. I don’t need Trevor to recap it for me, especially since they’re essentially the same person — nothing new is being added here. It just added to the tedious nature of this book. It felt like it dragged on and on, and then each shift in POV would feel like a one step forward two steps back situation.

There’s nothing wrong with the mechanics of the writing here, so I know J.J. Ryan has the potential to write a good book, if only the plot can support it. I always think it’s an incredible achievement for anyone to write a book, and I applaud Ryan’s efforts. But with a market saturated with new offerings every day, an author needs an idea that will keep a reader interested. Even pure erotica needs something to keep the reader engaged. This book just didn’t do it for me.

I really liked this one as I ended up feeling good, a need to write a review and to recommend.

Perfect Match by JJ Ryan is about Seattle trauma doctor Patrick Quinn who had never been in love. In fact, he’d never even had a long-term relationship. In his limited personal life, getting a date is only half the problem. Being able to keep it, despite emergency duties in the ER, is the other. So though he’s interested in Trevor Oneil, a man he meets on a dating site, he decides to take it slow.

Trevor moved to Seattle looking for a fresh start. Recently single and lonely in his new city, he works business hours as an anesthesiologist, hoping a better work-life balance will make it easier to meet someone. Patrick might be just what he's been hoping for.

Then disaster hits and a severely injured Trevor lands in Patrick’s ER. Unable to work on Trevor, Patrick feels helpless. He wanted to ease into a relationship, but he’s already attached. Then Trevor’s past comes rushing in to take him away from the dangers of Seattle. If Trevor and Patrick’s new love is to survive the drama, Patrick will have to own up to what he wants—and fight for it.

The story is from both Trick's and Trevor's POV. The shifting POVs was sort of distracting at first but then I got to appreciate it as the plot moved along. It had a "He-Said-He-Said" feel to it that gives the readers the full blast of what the characters are seeing and feeling, from their own perspectives, which somehow makes the plot more involved.

The writing style is no way perfect, I doubt any author can honestly claim perfection. There are some misses too, like the reader does not really know whatever happened to the assault and battery case. However, the author does make up for it by mentioning that the case was in the hands of the authorities and was getting the attention it deserves. This, for me, was a way for the author to show that the characters were moving on with their lives and that the attack was not the focus of their lives or the plot at all.

The characters and the plot grow steadily. The question of sex, sex and more sex was typical of the "honeymoon stage" that all couples get into when in the first flush of love. That the characters never went through angst and separation and all that **** was fine with me. Not all couples go through that, but with all the books written with that sole focus in mind, its a wonder why some readers can't get to believe that not all relationships have to go through the disastrous and tragedies before they find their happily ever afters. Why do I say this, well, from my POV, my relationship with my husband never went through the novella-roller-coaster-plot-must-haves, so I consider myself lucky and totally identify with these characters. Obviously JJ Ryan and I are on the same wave length here.

Perfect Match is set in 2011 and at the last chapter, the story leap-frogs 11 years later to 2022 where it reads that Trick and Trevor are older, wiser, have had a few encounters with questioning their relationship but held on to their love, even going through compromises that neither expected but came to respect.

At the end of the book, 3 hours after I first opened it, I again felt lucky and happy. This is the feeling I like to get after reading any book, even if some would consider this an HEA. It had managed to give me the escape that I needed without feeling exhausted at the end of the day.

Why did I give this a 4 stars instead of a 5? It was not a perfect book however, it does not deserve a rating below 4, IMO and I wish there were a .5 star to add but honestly I don't know how.

This book was OK, but it dragged for me.

The head hopping was annoying to me, and I don't usually mind it. I think what didn't work for me was that the MC's were too similar. I kept forgetting which was which, and mostly remembered by their jobs. Their characterization wasn't different enough for that to work. Also, they retold too many of the same things that didn't need retelling.

I wanted to FEEL more.

Review Summary: A book that I probably shouldn't have liked but, despite some issues, really held my attention.

Review

I probably shouldn't have liked this book but I really kind of did. It had a bad case of insta-love, but strangely, that didn't turn me off. I also usually have trouble getting into books written in first person, because I like getting both MC's perspectives. This book solved that problem by switching back and forth between Patrick and Daniel.

I enjoyed the way they got together through online dating, and the beginning of the book was presented as a series of emails between the two men. I actually would have liked it if that had gone on a little longer, instead of the insta-love. It was building up some interesting tension.

Once they actually met, the physical relationship, and the feelings between them came on very quickly. The author broke that up a bit by adding in the drama of Trevor getting bashed and nearly dying. Trevor had already told Patrick that he loved him, and seeing Trevor almost die was enough to push Patrick to admit his feelings (although, IMHO, it was too soon for either of them). I also loved the introduction of the leather daddies, it was pretty funny.

Trevor didn’t react to his attack the way a normal person would. He was more pissed off about being bedridden than anything else. Surely anyone beaten within an inch of their life would have some degree of post-traumatic stress, but he basically just got over it. That left me scratching my head a little.

The main problem with this book, besides the insta-love, was the medical inaccuracies. Patrick was an ER doc and Trevor was an anesthesiologist. The author talked about Trevor as if he was basically just a glorified nurse. While I’m not an expert, I have had a couple of surgeries, and my anesthesiologists were all doctors. There are nurse anesthetists but that’s a different position. You still have to go to med school to be an anesthesiologist, so I was a little confused in the beginning. Also, the lack of proper terminology in some places made it a little less believable.

Despite the issues I mentioned, I really did enjoy this book. If you’re looking for a light, happy read; light on angst with a side of insta-love, this is a good one. Sometimes it’s good to read a book where people are just happy most of the time. Patrick’s parents made Trevor feel like one of the family, even though he was nervous meeting them. After the meeting of the family, they decided to move in together. Of course, they found the perfect house right when they were worried they wouldn’t. And everything worked out in the end.

While there were stumbling blocks, I did devour this book pretty quickly and it left me feeling happy. That’s not something to thumb your nose at! I recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, slightly saccharine, fun read for a rainy day.

Review at Confessions from Romaholics

Insta-love is strong here, grabbing hold of Patrick and Trevor in a way they least expect! Who knew some dating sites could actually work?! So after a few disastrous dates, they take a chance on each other.

Patrick decides to give the Gaydate online dating site one more chance when he’s sifting through the potential guys. Once they all find out he’s a doctor all they want from him is his money. Not going to happen! Than he comes across Trevor, thinking Yes! Finally a guy who looks promising! But experience tells him to take it slow, proposing to get to know each other first by exchanging emails before meeting in person.

Trevor can’t believe he’s trying yet another dating site. His time is limited being an anesthesiologist, helping women feel better about their bodies after recovering from breast cancer. He loves his job, but finding a partner having recently moved to Seattle has become taxing. Somehow his best friend, Callie, talked him into exploring a dating site, so now he’s finding himself searching through a list of guys, with so many “no’s”, it’s becoming disheartening. Until he sees Patrick. A major “YES, Please!” After they message a few times, he becomes disappointed; Patrick doesn’t want to meet but rather for them to get to know each other first in emails. Trevor is left questioning if Patrick is really interested.

Despite a few misunderstandings brought on by the inability to gauge emotions through emails, they begin to grow closer. One night Patrick gets a call, Trevor is drunk … something has happened while at work, he lost a patient: anesthesia causing the woman’s heart to fail. It hits Trevor hard. Trevor ends up calling Patrick unknowingly for comfort.

The next morning, while they had slept in separate beds the night before, they have breakfast and agree to a date for the coming weekend. During the date they hold hands, share kisses, and go for a long walk, and wait … Patrick is going down on Trevor without protection? Hello! Aren’t these men doctors? Where is the thought for their safety?! This is only the first date! Sigh. Even though this is an Insta-love story I would have liked at least another date before they started smexing!

That very night, Trevor proclaims his love to Patrick! Hmm. Patrick is unable to say it back, although he knows his feelings for Trevor are deepening rapidly. The next day, however, starts out well; Patrick gets ready for work and Trevor leaves to run some errands. Two raging homophobic morons put a kink in things, attacking Trevor who tries to flee and almost makes it to a Gay Leather Bar just down the road, only to get tackled before he reaches safety. The incident leaves him being put into a medical induced coma. Patrick, being the ER doctor at the hospital Trevor is brought to, flips. Realizing he loves Trevor just as much, he sets out to make sure Trevor knows just how deep his love is for him!

This is a very sweet and easygoing story. The jumping back and forth between POV’s with Patrick and Trevor did become slightly annoying at times, as it would tend to back track and you’d end up reading the other’s side to what just happened. I really wished it would have stayed to just one character’s POV. It did, however, give you a good look into each character’s growth through this building relationship.

I hope you like a lot of smexing, because once these two come together, it’s hard to get them to stop! Maybe a tad bit too much sex for such a short book? That being said, despite the things I didn’t quite like, I still rather enjoyed reading Perfect Match. I would give this a rating of 3. I do think, though, those who are attracted to Insta-love stories will find this rather enjoyable.

I was definitely intrigued with the premise of this story. The concept of meeting someone via an online dating site is so very popular in today’s culture, so this had the makings for a great contemporary story. The fact that Patrick had previously experienced a couple of less than stellar dating experiences made him understandably cautious and wanting to take things slowly at first. This set the stage for a nice build up in the “getting to know you” phase of the relationship with the exchange of email, text messages and eventually calls.

On the plus side of things, this story tapped into my kissing erogenous zone. I loved the focus on kissing, the descriptions and the appreciation for the many different types of kisses that can be shared between two people. Patrick and Trevor seemed very well suited to one another, and the similar vein of their careers gave them an immediate connection to build on. Both characters were very likeable despite some awkward dialogue and petty misunderstandings. The story progressed through alternating points of view. I’ve always enjoyed getting inside each character’s head, so I appreciated “hearing” both of their thoughts.

The story is arranged in a very journal-like fashion with dates to show the progression of a timeline and the name of the character “speaking”. I thought this approach worked very well at the beginning of the story as the guys were conversing via email/text and getting acquainted. I found myself liking this approach less as the book progressed because of the amount of overlap and repeated actions that occurred by having both Patrick and Trevor cover the same territory. In at least one instance, a really important scene didn’t have quite the intensity it could have because it was discussed or told by the other person vs. being shown or occurring in real time.

From a plot perspective, I thought there was one pretty big missed opportunity to leverage the angst and emotions stirred up due to the cause of Trevor’s injury and the circumstances around him ending up in Patrick’s ER. Yes, there was definitely angst about the injury itself and how serious it became, however, the fact that nothing further came out of it following Trevor’s recovery left a big hole for me and definitely some unanswered questions.

As endings go, this one was more than satisfactory because we get to see how things are progressing for Patrick and Trevor well into the future. And by future, I really mean future – as in 10 years from now. This was a unique approach that I’ve not seen before. I was thankful for the extra substance and being able to share how truly well things worked out for these guys. All in all, while everything may not have been “perfect” related to this story, the imperfections still made for a very enjoyable read!

The story is told from two different POV, that of Trevor and Patrick(Trick). Both begin their journey to finding each other via an online dating site. Upon seeing each others profiles they feel immense attraction for each other and decide to get to know each other and eventually meet. In the book readers get to see the types of feeling each inspire in each other, how they think and the internal struggle they have.

Overall it isn't a bad book but I really expected it to be more than it was. The start of the book was great and I was into it but as I got further and further into the story I found my attention would begin to wander and would wonder when the big climatic ordeal that was surely going to happen would occur. I was also a bit disappointed with the ending. It was fun seeing the two MC's 10 years after but I just expected them to be more settled and I kind of wanted to keep the perfect image of a perfect soul mate like couple in my mind and not have to read that they had their up and downs . It just kind of despoiled the romance between the two for me.

This is a sweet light romance with a theme of "meeting the right guy, dating, falling in love and at the end talking about marriage. In general I liked the main plot, but I missed some touch of reality of a created world. Through the story we had a lot (sure some hot, some regular) sex scenes, but life is more then sex, sex, sex. This story circles basically around two characters and that's that. I missed a touch of reality. I don't really know what was bothering me in this story, both MC fell in love to soon and to fast and they were like in this butterfly clouds from the start of their meeting.

This was a cute little book .. I hate it took me soo long to read it .. unfortunately I was swayed by these other not so great reviews. The only thing I really didnt like was when it switched POVs and it went over again in Trevors pov what was just covered in Patricks pov or vise versa .. but other than that this really was a sweet little book .. I enjoyed it more than i thought I would!

I'm very much a character driven reader which is why this book ends up with 4 stars from me, there are definitely characters here I would like to hear more from. While I found there were some points were the book dragged, some issues with research and some with consistency, the decisions came together in the end to make the story work.

I read the reviews beforehand and skipped over buying many times, but being in the medical field, a lot of it didn't get on my nerves as some of the medical dramas go with misinformation etc. I would rec book highly

started well enough, but the fluff factor was high and I realized that I was on chapter 4 and hoping the book was almost over. yeah, time to quit reading. I am not a fan of POV changes that go back in time...if we know what happened, please don't make us read it again.

It's not a bad book at all, but it didn't keep me interested enough to continue reading.
