3.5 STARS! A Brand New Ending is very angsty story which I enjoyed reading however I did not love it. But the ending was shocking, unexpected and very original!

My Phoenix and Braeden:

19 years old Phoenix feels like there is nothing beside the pain for her in this world and since no one would really miss her, she decides to commit suicide. However, her attempt to kill herself failed, she finds herself in psychiatric hospital. But for Phoenix, everything is better than being home...
"Life is a notion that now sickens me. If I had wings, I would fly free. But since I don't, I guess I will choose to jump instead of float."

Braeden works as an aide in psychiatric hospital. During one of his night shifts, they receive a new patient, a suicidal Phoenix. He is immediatelly drawn to her as she is to him. Their attraction and connection seems to be like out of this world - intense, unbreakable and inexplicable.

I admired Braeden. His work, his effort to help others, his determination to protect Phoenix and bring her some hapiness warmed my heart. He was trying to save her from her despair and depression but does she want to be saved???

Talking about suicide and experience the feelings of suicidal person or looking at it through the eyes of those who are close to suicidal person is very difficult. This book deals exactly with those kind of things. My heart broke for Phoenix. But while I liked the story, I had some issues with style of writing. It didn't flow easily and I couldn't believe the connection between Phoenix and Breaden. I just didn't feel it.

Overall I liked this story, I was curious to find out what would happend next and I read it in one sitting. A Brand New Ending is worth of reading, just be prepared for a lot of depressive feelings and plenty of angst!

Actual Rating For This Book: 4.5 / 5 • A copy of this book was supplied to me by the author in exchange for an honest review

I noticed the cover of this book quite some time away and that alone made me curious. I absolutely loved it from the moment I laid eyes on it. Well done to Mayhem Cover Creations for yet another great cover design job!

So I eyed this book cover and then saw it again a while later... and the minute I got a request to review, I nearly chocked on my coffee to respond quick enough.

Originally the book starts out as a kind of YA novel. But as the story progresses, it definitely slips into more of a New Adult Read.

For her debut novel, author S.A. Rolls doesn't make a splash - she makes a water bomb! While I got into the story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It went along the lines of a really sweet, really emotional romance read. But hello f-bomb ending... you just threw me right into a crazy spiral. I didn't see it coming, I didn't even think about it... the plot completely blindsided me. Awesome!

A Brand New Ending is an emotionally deep tale about a girl named Phoenix - She's a complete and utter mess. Things haven't been great in her childhood home for a very long time. The only way to make all the pain stop - is to just end it all.

- I actually don't really know how to write this review without giving to much away here. Each time I want to say something about what happens, I find myself clamping down on it because I just know I'm going to spoil it if I keep on going into to much detail. -

But what you need to know is that Phoenix meets a student doctor named Braeden. There's a connection right from the start and yes, you will read it and go... surely not, it's way to quick and much to inst-love... but hey... there's a twist, hold out until the end. It all makes sense eventually, trust me.

So between Phoenix and Braeden - they both help each other in ways they didn't even see coming. It's truly a beautiful tale. Emotional, mysterious and outright freaky at times. I enjoyed the connection I felt between both Phoenix and Braeden. Even with all the insta-connection stuff, it was well played out and beautifully put together... you don't doubt for an second, that what they have is real... Or maybe you do... lol... ok - enough now. I'm going to spoil it.

So the twist? Boy is it twisty. I keep wanting to say freaky, and yes it definitely is, but it's freaky-good.

This book is so unique and I really want to point that out. I have yet to read anything similar to this. The writing is good, the story flows well and all-round this is just a really great read. Especially if you take into consideration that it's a first attempt for author S.A. Rolls...

It's emotional, passionate and yes... the ending is definitely unlike any I've ever seen... therefore the title of this book is absolutely fitting!

This is a very deep, very emotional story, high on angst and hidden meanings with some truly great quotable dialogue. It has an ethereal, almost dream-like quality to it and when you’ve finished the entire book, the title will mean so much more to you. I think I’d have to say that the ending left me with more questions than answers but this is a thoughtful story that will stay with long after you close the last page.

Life is a notion that now sickens me. If I had wings, I would fly free. But since I don't, I guess I will choose to jump instead of float.

We start with Phoenix about to attempt suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge – she’s endured untold suffering and now feels that life has nothing to offer her and that no one cares for her and she is broken beyond repair and just wants to end it all. I felt so sorry for her – she’s crippled by her depression and cannot see a way forward.

This course of action will bring Braeden into her life – he’s a medical student working in a psychiatric unit and not without a tragic past of his own. Braeden and Phoenix are destined to be together – they feel an unbelievable connection to one another and neither can get the other one out of their thoughts. The story probably relies too heavily on the whole insta-love plot line but, if you go with it, it works.

The story is told in great detail, slowly paced with plenty of time given to explore Braeden and Phoenix’s deeper and innermost feelings as they slowly come to recognise the strong feelings they have for each other and the need to help each other move on from all the pain and suffering. There’s a lot of metaphorical dreams and symbolic meaning and I was left wondering after the ending about some of the secondary characters – Rain, most of all.

I did enjoy this, it’s a great debut from SA Rolls and I’d like to read more from her in the future. Recommended for those of you who enjoy deep, symbolic romance that’s relatively low on steam.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I finished this in about a day with about 10 pages left to read the day after. This was so enjoyable to read! The characters were so well written and the plot almost made me cry (but I have the incapability to cry...sadly).

I wanted to hug Phoenix so badly for all that she had been through. Nobody should have to face what she went through, yet she and so many other people do in this world. The only difference was that Phoenix is a fictional character, but made people go through all this same stuff in their lives. This really did bring tears to my eyes.

Braeden...I wanted to give a hug for two reasons. One, because he went through so much for Phoenix. It is so nice to see/ read about boys who are willing to go through anything to help the woman that they love. I absolutely loved Braeden for that, of course he could be a bit pig-headed at times, at which I wanted to hit him upside the head, but all guys are idiots at some point. The second reason that I wanted to hug him was...HE IS GORGEOUS!!

description

Man, I want a Braeden for myself. He is so caring, kind, and HOT! Yes, who doesn't want a hot guy to themselves?

I found this plot to be so heart-warming, and at the same time extremely sad. Both these characters have to go through so much pain, sorrow, and grief just to be with each other. It really does bring tears to my eyes. If two people love each other they shouldn't have to go through so much pain, but as they say, "true love never comes easy" or without pain.

Guys, I highly recommend this book so everyone! Just warning you now this is a New Adult Romance so yeah, it is a bit mature for some audiences, but if you don't mind that then go read this...NOW!

I was honored when S. A. Rolls asked me to read her novel before it was sent out. I have never read about two characters who were so connected in such devstatingly, beautiful ways. When the novel opens up, Phoenix is so broken. As a reader I wanted to swoop her up and save her. But that is Braeden's job. Phoenix and Braeden meet in such an unconventional way: in a psychiatric hospital. There is an instant connection between the two of them and while it almost seems inconceivable, it is believable. It's a connection you can feel in your bones. They were born to survive their heartaches so that they could save each other. They work perfectly together, meshing their lives to become one. They feel what the other feels, hurts how the other hurts. But in a way that balances each other out.

Give this book a shot. Not because it teaches you a little bit about suicide prevention. Not because I told you to. Not because of the intriguing title. But because it shows that you never know just who can save your life and how to learn to save yours own along the way as well. .

Within a few pages I was hooked, fifty pages later I found I still couldn't put it down, and found by the last page that I was sad the story ended. The twists and turns that this story takes keeps you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the last and final great twist. It was hard trying to put this book down and walk away from it to attend to real life. The world the author that was created in this novel, captivated me so much that I found it hard to get out when it was over.
The story was about Phoenix and Braedan, two young adults who find each other even among their own horrible past lives. They are broken individuals who find solace in each others arms. Most people can look back and realize that they have something in common with these characters and it will touch their heart.
I hope to see more from this Author in the near future, her words were beautifully placed and her characters were loved from the very beginning.

A Brand New Ending, was a masterpiece in the making. S.A. Rolls has spun an incredible novel filled with suspense, intrigue, ambiguity, and so much more. This novel is about Phoenix Harper, and Braeden Harris. Phoenix's father died when she was young, and she is sent to live with her mother and step-father. Her mother gave her up many years before. From the time she is living with her mother, Elaina, and her step-father, Carl, she is beaten, and abused, and her mother turns a blind eye. The book opens with the hopelessness of Phoenix, as she stands on the Golden Gate Bridge, ready to jump to her death. All she can think about is all the cars passing, and no one caring to stop or help her. Life goes on. She wakes up to realize, that she is unfortunately still alive, and in horrible pain, not only the pain from her fall, but also the excruciating pain and blinding fear she lives with everyday of her life. Phoenix is a tortured soul, and her body looks like a war zone from all of the beatings she has absorbed over the years. She is moved to a Psych. Hospital, and there her parents come to see her. On first glance Dr. Harris, and his son, Braeden, (he's a hospital aide) notice the rigid stance that Phoenix takes, and the frozen fear in her eyes. They tell Carl he will not be allowed to see her, and he goes into a completely blind rage. Carl gives Phoenix a look that holds a warning, if she opens her mouth.

Braeden has carried the weight of the world on his shoulders since he was a young child, when he walked into the shed, and found his beloved mother hanging from the ceiling. She committed suicide, and when he meets Phoenix, he feels an immediate connection with her. The two of them start getting closer as time goes on, but Braeden is very careful and slow with his attempts to bring her out of herself. Eventually, they begin a romance that comes with a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns, and sadness beyond comprehension. There are many coincidences in this story, that I found intriguing. Everything that happens, has a purpose.

This book has so many life lessons, and so many scary themes; child abuse, victimization, battery, alcoholism, compassion, love, loyalty, and friendship. The secondary characters in this book were great. Phoenix has a roommate, named Rain, who is a lost soul just like herself. Rain comes to her rescue several times in this book. Donovan, the roommate of Braeden, who also works as an aide at the psych hospital, befriends Phoenix. Then, there's Chelsea, the nurse, who is very smitten with Dr. Harris, and helps Phoenix when she needs it most, and Bret, another hospital aide, and roommate of Braeden, who is known as the "Devil," on the ward.

This novel was done in dual narration. The characters were well rounded, and hauntingly real. As the novel develops, so do the characters, and the occurrences that help each scene relate to the next one. This book took my breath away. The sadness, and emptiness that can envelope a human being to the point of wanting to end their life, and throw it all away is so devastating. Especially, for the family members and friends left behind. This novel was relatable on so many levels that it broke my heart. Phoenix becomes a full character, from the broken human being she once was, and relates herself to a character in a book, Scarlet, from Gone with the Wind.

Throughout this novel, Braeden tries to make Phoenix realize that she deserves to live, and that she deserves to have happiness. Every time something goes wrong, Phoenix tries to hurt herself, because the pain makes her feel good. Until she realizes that she loves Braeden, then she desperately fights to live, after making a terrible decision. Phoenix says, "I feel free for the first time in so long. I feel like no one can touch me here." (Pg.40) Her friend Rain tries to shed some light on all the pain that Phoenix has incurred, and tries to make her see what life is all about. Rain tells her, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass Phoenix...it's about learning to dance in the rain." I thought Rain's words were so poetic, and at the same time, Rain is lost in her own world of pain, and loneliness. Rain and Phoenix become each others family, because neither have had one for a very long time. What people need to remember is that once they make the decision to take their own life, there may be no turning back. It may be final. "I start to cry furiously, begging God for one more second chance. The darkness and silence I longed for just moments ago is far from what I desire now. I want to travel the world; I want to feel the sun beat on my face as I lay in the grass on a warm summer day. I want to feel someone's love. I want to love someone." (Pg.315)

A Brand New Ending is a book of substance. The life lessons of compassion, forgiveness, being able to walk away and begin anew, learning to love again, and learning to trust again, are all lessons the world can learn from. This book gets 5 dynamically fascinating, full circle, tough life lessons, with love filled stars! Please read this book, that is so full of surprises, and has something in it for everyone to learn from. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books by this talented author, S.A. Rolls.

“Death captures the dying, but sorrow steals from those left behind.”

I admit I am not a fan of the first part of this book. The way things were narrated seems mechanical and mostly told, not shown. It’s like the character tells the reader the step-by-step process of how they get through their day. There were also some parts that felt dragging and unnecessary.

Another thing that bothered me was the instant pull of the characters towards each other. I am not a fan of insta-love and although it wasn’t love at first, their attraction towards each other or the way it was described was just sappy. I thought that if this was PNR, I would let it pass since anything could be explained by something that is not normal and usually out-of-this-world.

But then the second half came and I finally liked Phoenix and Braeden. Maybe my delayed reaction to them was because I find it hard to connect with them with the alternating POV. I also can’t find the fluidity between scenes at the early part. I find it hard to imagine a gentle Braeden as an aide and the Braeden that drinks with his friends and sprouts the F word all the fucking time.

I think it helped to know them more in the later part because they were now open to each other. They both started to share what they felt and what they’ve been through. Phoenix started to learn how to trust people around and Braeden started to share his scars with her. I can say that I didn’t know them at all until they were together together.

Just when I finally felt connected to the story, the last three chapters threw a curve ball and totally surprised me. It explained the instant pull I was ranting about at the early part. It was unexpected, really good and brought more to the story despite it being in the last part.

If you are reading this or planning to but worried about the first part I am talking about, just continue. It gets better, I swear. Another book that made me believe that soul mates might be real after all.

A Brand New Ending was one of those books that draws you in instantly. The whole aspect of this book was amazing. The author wrote such a compelling novel about life, loss, and love. And then she throws in the attention for detail, and it helps to make you grasp onto this story even more. Are you ready to take a jump into A Brand New Ending?

Can we have more characters like Phoenix Harper? I was so in love with her, no matter what takes place in this story. The fact that she is perfectly flawed and so special made this book even better. Phoenix didn't have a great home life, so she does the unthinkable. This lands her in the hands of a man that may change her path at life forever. Is she willing to accept his help, or will she keep her walls up?

Then you have Braeden Harris, who is everything you want in a book boyfriend. Tall, gorgeous, and freaking amazing!!! And Braeden isn't afraid of taking a walk on the wild side. So seeking out a certain woman to make his own is more like an adventure. Regardless of the fact that she is so lost. Can he help this lost soul come out of her shell or will she push him away?

Phoenix and Braeden share some very interesting similarities. They are both in a sense broken and fighting to thrive in life. Phoenix hasn't been able to let anyone in, because she feels like she isn't worthy of life or love from anyone. Braeden has thrust himself into schooling and work, to forget the pain he wallows in. These two now need to figure out whether or not they can make it from here on out.

I have to say, this was such a beautiful and gut-wrenching story. Every emotion that poured through the characters, I felt. The fact that the author used suicide as the main aspect of this story helped create fascinating and very real characters. What has me so in awe, is that A Brand New Ending keeps you thinking from start until finish. I can only hope that any future novel Author S.A. Rolls writes will pull at our emotions and heartstrings, the way A Brand New Ending did to me with this story. I give this book 4.5 stars!

Beautiful, sad and heart-warming. A Brand New Ending is a tale of what happens when there's nothing left to live for.

19 year old Phoenix has nothing left in this world. Her father passed away when she was 15 and she is forced to live with her mother and abusive step-father. After a failed suicide attempt, Phoenix is put in a psychiatric hospital.

24 year old Braeden is a medical student and an aide at the psychiatric hospital. Apart from the occasional drink with his best friend and co-worker Donavon, he does nothing but work and study.

On the night that Phoenix is admitted, Braeden and Phoenix feel an unexplainable pull towards one another. Braeden has always felt unnerved when a suicide-survivor is admitted to the ward because of his mother's own fate.

I adored this 'sad and lovely at the same time' story. There's an underlying feel of sixth-sense, destiny and fate mixed together. You actually feel the main characters and the supporting characters likeable and worthwhile.

Writing style: 9/10
Characters: 10/10
Romance: 10/10
Ending: 9/10

My star ratings:
1* Complete trash
2* Waste of time really, but I carried on for some reason
3* Half decent, usually down to personal preferences
4* Could read this again, only a little thing is missing, maybe more humour or romance etc...
5* Would read this again and again, unique story, adore this author

So I just finished reading this book, not the final draft because this book isn’t out yet, and I loved it. I feel like I have to go back and reread it because it was one of those books that you just fly through. The characters and events in this book just capture you; well I know they did for me. Some parts make your heart break while others put a smile on your face making you “aww” over this love story and the moments Pheonix and Braeden share.

And even though I would love to go on and on about this story, especially the ending, I will refrain from doing so because if I do continue I will spoil the whole damn book and we don’t want that. Let’s just leave it at the fact that this is a great book to get lost in with an ending that will make you look back on what you just read.

This is one of those books where you some how know the 2 main characters are linked deeply. It’s that deep connection that keeps you hooked into the story and wanting to find out where this connection stems from. When you find out, all I can say is mind=blown! I didn’t see it coming at all!

Phoenix Harper has had a sad life with little love beyond the age of 15. Braeden Harris has had his fair share of sadness and loss in his life. These 2 are just made for each other, which is what made this story such a great read.

I love it, love it, love it when I am rewarded for taking a chance on a new book. I was asked to read this book for an honest review. The cover intrigued me. I thought it was beautiful with the image of the girl not looking up and it was in black in white. That said a lot to me. I wanted to know this girl’s story. As I started to read the book and the story unfolded I knew this was a winner. Did I mention that I love this book? Yeah, well I might mention it some more. I am more than happy to share my opinion.

The cover is so appropriate with the story line. There is a little bit of a dark cloud that hovers over the lives of the characters. We meet Phoenix at the Golden Gate Bridge. Side note: How cool is her name? She’s named after the capital of my state. She’s not a tourist. She’s there to kill herself by jumping off into the frigid water below. In the next chapter we meet Braeden getting ready to take his shift at the psychiatric hospital. A few chapters in their two worlds collide.
Phoenix is a broken 18 year old girl. She lived through her dad’s illness & death. She lived with her mom and an abusive step-father. Her one attempt to end it all brought her to the one person she would want to live for. Braeden is a college student studying medicine. His father is a doctor. His life seems to be great but he has suffered losses as well. He knows a thing or two about suicide since it hit close to home. He is drawn to Phoenix. Throughout the story Braeden and Phoenix are building a relationship, sharing their past history with each other, becoming familiar.

I was so engrossed in this story that I wasn’t expecting any twists, but Oh My Goodness, there was a twist. At first I didn’t know how I felt about it but I kept reading. When it was all said and done, and I put my Kindle down I kept thinking about the twist of the ending. It worked. It was kind of perfect, making it a sweeter moment to the romance of Braeden and Phoenix. I have to give it to the author. Wow, amazing story telling that drew me so far in and kept me captivated that I didn’t even suspect the curve ball that was going to be thrown my way. It was all so seamless. There were no cracks in this writing. The alternating POV of each chapter helped build the story. We got each side as it was unfolding. Another reason I didn’t suspect a thing. This story was nicely executed. It was well written, well thought out, and well delivered. The characters were so engaging that I felt like I was in the story with them. I love that. Did I mention that I love this story?

Taking a chance is a good thing, especially when you are rewarded with such an amazing read like this one. Go now and get this book. It’s not the ending you would expect…It’s A Brand New Ending.

I really liked this book.. I ALMOST loved it buuutt the writing was a little off for me BUT that didn't deter from it being a really good book.

It was different from the normal books I have read lately and that is what I did LOVE about it. I was hooked from the very beginning, then a couple chapters in I was still hooked, it started to drag a little bit, and then the ending completely threw a curve-ball to my face!! I was like WHOA did that really happen???.. WTF...Am I reading the same book???, I was not expecting that ending and then I started to understand a lot of the magical elements that seemed to happen in the book and it all started to make sense.. While reading the book I was like OMG that is not even plausible, how can that happen, this book isn't real life but alas at the end I finallly got it and I was pleasantly surprised. I love books that can surprise me and this one definitely did!
(You have to read the book to know what I am talking about)

Phoenix tries to commit suicide but with the failed attempt, it lands her in a psychiatric hospital where she meets the lovely Braeden. They have an instant connection, it wasn't love at first sight or anything but it was different, like there was a pull towards one another but they couldn't explain why it was happening.

After they try fighting the connection towards one another they finally give in and are together. There are a lot of twists, turns, drama, swoon-worthy, and panty dropping moments after they officially become a couple and you are rooting for them to stay together to the very end of the book. You know that Braeden is not only Phoenix's first love but he is the one person in her life that makes her feel safe and that is something she has never felt before in her life. Braeden never let anyone in after the tragedies happened in his past but Phoenix wormed her way into his heart and soul and his new mission was to always keep her there and to keep her safe.

I loved the other characters in the book as well. Rain and Donovan were my next two favorite characters besides the main ones. The only character I did not get was Braeden's dad. He confused me because he could be so compassionate and sweet towards Phoenix's but with his son he seemed very distant and cold.

If you want to read a good book with quirky characters, swoon-worthy moments, drama, and a twist at the end then I suggest you pick this book up now, you will not regret reading it!!!

A Brand New Ending by S.A. Rolls Review BY Patty Euebueno

4.5 stars!

I have to start by saying how my emotions felt while reading this book. I was on a rollercoaster ride that I never wanted to end! From the very first page to the very last, i couldn't stop reading!

After a failed suicide attempt Pheonix is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. She has suffered too much already in her 19 years of life. She looses the one person who means the world to her only to be left living.with her Mother and her abusive boyfriend. Pheonix feels like she has no reason left to live for, no-one will miss her. What she doesn't know is when she wakes up her world as she knows it eclipses suddenly when she sees him! Braeden!

Braeden is studying in medical school, and works at the hospital. His Father, Neil is a doctor who is in charge of Pheonix's care. When Pheonix and Braeden's eyes meet there is an immediate connection, they try to fight it in the beginning and try to convince eavh other that they are "just friends", right? Pheonix is afraid of men and is very shy. Braeden has to be careful too because he could loose his job. Braeden has also had to deal with a tragic past that absolutely tore my heart out. I loved watching them grow together and face their painful pasts. They know if they are to have any chance at a happy, normal future confronting their demons and leaving them in the past where they belong is their only option.

Rain is Pheonix's roomate and i liked her right away. She comforts Pheonix and she also has a keen sense of her surroundings, she can pretty much read your mind and she becomes a good friend to Pheonix!

Eventually Pheonix is discharged and she goes back to live with her Mom! That turned out to be a nightmare, and for me was the scariest part of the book. Pheonix ends up living in Braeden's Dad's home and as time passes they fall madly in love! Their chemistry is smokin hot and slowly Pheonix starts to open up, relax and for once in her life she feels safe, free, happy!

Just when everything is going great, BOOM! it all starts to crumble! Will they have the strength to fight for their love? Their future? Is fate real?

The ending will absolutely floor you too! I didn't see it coming at all! I must have said outload at least a dozen times, " No way, WOW".

A Brand new ending

All right here we go.. You know when you read a book and you love it. Yet you sit and stare at Kindle- thinking wtf! I'm not sure what I feel, how I feel or where I need to direct my feelings. Well yes that's me!

I liked the book. I loved the story. There were a few parts that I felt were a little slow maybe, but the story overall overshadowed that one little thing.. Lol!
You think your getting a insta-love, dreamy romance. Well guess what it's not that at all. It's so much more.

Phoenix. She is truly a heroine. Yes the book is about suicide. Yes she is sick. However any sickness she has is far outweighed in her strength. She has overcome things and dealt with demons nobody should face. She breaks your heart. I love her!

Braeden has his own demons. He has a past he is hiding from daily. He needs to save someone in order to make amends. (That's how I see it anyway) Overall though he is good!
He cusses and drinks. He has meaningless sex on occasion, but he is good. This is all just a coping mechanism.
Raine.. I ❤her and really want to know more. Really! The cast of characters are such a wonderful addition to the story.
Life has plans. Fate takes over and watch out. I was twisted- turned- flipped- relieved- stressed- in fits - held together by a thread- fixed and broken again! That was all before I got to the end.. When I went am I having a out body experience and did I just read that! I did not see that coming people! This book shook me and held on! What a ride! I want to tell you so much more, but I cannot. One it would ruin, two it would keep you from reading it. I need someone else to read this and say.. Wtf.. Did not see that coming, lol!
S.A. Rolls congrats! You blindsided me and trust me, that's a good thing!

A Brand New Ending is a book that savages your emotions. There is nothing better than a story that uses emotion to create conflict that is not contrived, but you’re able to suspend disbelief and embrace it as truth. S. A. Rolls does this in A Brand New Ending.

The female protagonist, Phoenix Harper, reads like a metaphor for the mythical bird, because she rises from the ashes of her past life to create a new one. With the love and help of the male protagonist, Braeden Harris, Phoenix overcomes an attempted suicide and a wide range of other situations thrown at her by her less than ideal family life, institutional life, all while trying to navigate just what it means to be involved in a romance that is the real deal despite how quickly they bond and become enamored with one another.

A Brand New Ending is a story filled with suspense, intrigue, and ambiguity which makes for a thoroughly incredible, unpredictable tale. Phoenix and Braeden are linked together by painful episodes in their lives, and even their romance comes with a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns, and pain beyond measure.

The themes of this story include weighty issues such as child abuse, victimization, battery, alcoholism, compassion, love, loyalty, and friendship. The secondary characters in this book were also well-drawn, and achingly real. The alternate narration employed in the novel allowed us to get into the heads of both Phoenix and Braeden. This made for a richer plot, and stellar characterization.

A Brand New Ending packs a powerfully emotional punch of love, trust, compassion, forgiveness, and renewal that brings us to a ending you won’t see coming, but was altogether satisfying. S.A. Rolls is one to watch.

Where to start this review.... I will start by saying this is the author's debut book and holy shi$ she does an EXCELLENT job! The book had me and the ending holy mother of God I was like no way.... what... where... when.... how.... HOLY SH$$ this can not be happening! Man I can't even formulate sentences to make any of this make sense. I was totally blown away by this story and what is more shocking was that ending man the ending I loved loved loved it! So enough crazy talk let me give you some background of the story.

We meet Phoenix who has had a rough life and her only way out of the pain and the suffering is to kill herself. After her suicide attempt her father sends her to a psychiatric hospital to get better. While Phoenix is there she meets a student doctor Braeden and together these two help each other out. I have to say that the insta love thing that happened between them and the insta connection and pull they felt towards one another was not cheesy or stupid but it really worked for them. Together they were able to help each other out with the demons they suffered from.

Phoenix has her own pain and hurts and past and so does Braeden but together they help each out and realize they can get past all the bull sh$$ and have a life worth living. Once Phoenix gets out of the hospital reality sets in for her and Braeden and they are wondering if they will make it together. Can Phoenix ever heal from the hurt she has had to endure? Can Braeden heal from his past? Will Braeden be with Phoenix when she leaves the safety of the hospital? This is such a roller coaster read and when you get to the end you will be completely shocked at least I know I was!

Where do I begin? I've been a fan of this story for quite some time. It's always refreshing to read a story that is different, has a bit of an edge and makes you truly think. Life is tough and the lives of these two characters will reinforce that notion. I appreciate the psychological aspect of the story because I'm a student in this field of work. it was nice to read an extremely accurate depiction of such a facility. It's also nice to see issues such as the one's mentioned in this book talked about in a nonjudgmental way. That's very important when writing about these topics, you have to maintain a sensitivity and Stephanie did a beautiful job of that with this novel. The alternating points of view were beautifully complimentary to weave this story together in a way that makes you NOT want to put the book down.

Despite the few grammatical/tense errors throughout the novel, I absolutely enjoyed reading this story (again!). I fangirl SO hard for these two characters, broken as they are, and the love they found in one another. They were each other's savior and they leave you with a hopeful feeling in spite of EVERYTHING else.

And that ending. I. Just. Can't. Even. YOU HAVE GOT TO LOVE A TWIST and dammit, this one was a doozy. I hope many people get the opportunity to read this novel because all in all it's a lovely read. I skipped out on going to lunch with coworkers so I could read. Do yourself a favor and give this one a shot.

P.s- ill never be able to eat animal crackers without thinking of Braeden again. <3

Wow! What a book! I am so glad that I got to be a part of this blog tour. From the moment I opened it to page one, I was hooked. I am a sucker for books that have a very dark side to them. Something where the main character internal and external problems that they feel that they are facing alone. That is Phoenix. Phoenix feels that she is’t worthy of living. Everyone that she has ever loved has left her, and she was left to the brutal hands of Carl. What she doesn’t realize is that this failed attempt could possible save her life.

When I think about this story, all I think about is the internal connection of Phoenix and Brayden. It is out of this world. S.A. Rolls has written a book that will have people both young and old in tears, heart full of life, fear, and pain. My favorite thing about this book is the way that it is written. You can see directly into the mind of both Phoenix and Brayden. Knowing what they are each feel and everything that is going on around them only makes you love this story even more.

There is a major twist that I NEVER saw coming. I think honestly when I realized what was going on my belief in faith grew to where I thought my heart was going to burst it was so full. You will love Phenix and Brayden even more that you thought was possible.

This book will have you believing in finding the purpose of life, what it means to live, escape your past, and look/hold onto your future! So, 1-click A Brand New Ending because you won’t be disappointed!

Okay. I'll admit it took me a while to get through this book. A long while.
The first half dragged and it bothered me because a lot of the narration went against the 'show, not tell' rule of writing. So it also became repetitive. The side-characters seemed flat and the main characters confusing. Also, the grammar. It's a mess. It's just not a well edited book. There are way too many glaring errors and I just kept having the urge to edit every single sentence. The narrative keeps jumping from present to past tense in the same paragraph and I spotted "would of/could of" and many more such mistakes. It's frustrating and a shame, because it takes the entire focus away from the story.

That said, the story in itself is not bad. It is a heavy story. The author deals with a lot of serious issues and I have to admire her blatant head-on way of dealing with them. She sugarcoats nothing and we get things as the characters feel them. The present tense narrative enhances that.

The tender moments between the characters are also nicely written. It was sweet how Braeden and Phoenix decided to give each other a chance.
The ending was...bizarre, but props to the author for the curveball.

All in all, this was an okay read. I do think it could have been a lot, LOT better had it been edited well. The plot in itself had potential.

[Note: I was provided a free copy of the book in exchange of an honest review. My review is not affected by that in any way.]

This story hooked me from the dramatic beginning, as we witness Phoenix Harper’s attempted suicide. The story unfolds as she is brought to a psychiatric hospital and starts to slowly heal and get her life back together. She meets handsome medical student and intern Braeden, who also happens to be the son of her treating physician.

This book is written in first person present tense, and has the alternating points of view of Phoenix and Braeden. I enjoyed the author’s writing style. This is not a light, romantic story. It is the story of two people who are very sensitive, and who have suffered thorough some very emotional events in their lives.

I also loved the supporting characters of Rain and Donovan! They are a great addition to the story.

This story is not heavy on the steam but there is just the right amount of romance and sex, perfect for the story.
There is an incredibly dramatic twist at the end of this story that I promise, you will not see coming! I give the author a lot of credit for crafting the surprising ending to this book. Overall, I enjoyed this debut story very much, despite the heavy subject matter. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!A Brand New EndingS.A. Rolls

First of all, I want to thank the lovely SA Rolls for giving me the opportunity to read her debut story.

A Brand New Ending is a story about Phoenix Harper and the events following a dramatic suicide attempt. The story starts off at the jump (literally) and is intense as we wait for it to happen. So needless to say, the premise had me from the get-go. I was fascinated reading her journey through the hospital and the psych ward as she tried to get her life together.

This book is written in first person present tense and has alternating points of view. I admittedly am not a fan of present tense. I rarely can seem to relate to the characters on an emotional level because it's so immediate and go-go-go in the moment. I can't write it (it feels to rushed when I try) so kudos to SA Rolls for taking it on. I'm also not really a fan of alternating points of view in a book unless it's absolutely necessary. I feel like third person should be default if we need to hear from more than one character (again, personal preference with books). So occasionally this story would flip a POV for two or three pages and throw me off, because it seemed a little pointless to me. But again, just a prefence. I know others love alternating points of view.

All in all, 3.5 stars. Intense story. I didn't see the ending coming.

I really connected with this book. There are a lot of quotes that i really liked but the one that i relate the most is the one that says that sometimes all you want is the pain to dissapear. That one, killed me because is so true and i have been in that position, and when you read this book you can really feel Phoenix`s pain, and that sense of loneliness she is feeling.

The characters in this book were very real, they suffered a lot of pain but they were also an example that even when we can`t change our past we can totally create "A brand new ending".

i recommend this book to everyone and i hope you really enjoy it the same way i did. I could keep talking but i would totally spoil it so i will let you discover the whole story and the well deserved ending of it.

This book was really good.

Phoenix decides she doesn't wanna live anymore, so she jumps off a bridge. She wakes up in a hospital and meets Braeden. Hello, hottie. Lol.

That's where it goes from there. I don't think they fell in love quickly. Because when you read the book, they didn't really act upon it for a while, but you could tell there was attraction.

They have ups and downs, and family drama. I talked to the author and I understand the last 4 chapters of the book. I like what she did and thought it was cool because I never read a book like that.

I think that could happen in real life, seems realistic to me.

This is a stand alone, but I would really love to see how they are doing, if they have kids, are they married? Well, at least I can use my imagination.

It took me a LONG time to receive a copy of this book, and then it took me QUITE A WHILE to read it once I did. Ha. But I'm glad that I finally did receive and read this book. It was beautiful. I loved the relationship between Braeden and Phoenix. It is one of the best literary relationships EVER. For fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, I liken their relationship to the one between Zsadist and Bella, only in reverse.

Phoenix, dear, lovely, damaged Phoenix... she is just broken and ... I'll admit, my dream girl. Ha.

I loved this book. I truly did.

The only reason I rated it four stars instead of five is because there were a few small issues with bouncing point of views that really confused me for a while, but despite those, it was a great story.

The book was really good and by the ending I was so confused! I thought I read it wrong so I reread it but I actually loved the alternative ending than what I thought would happen so it is now one of my favourite books! Definitely worth 5*.
