The next sizzling novel of C. L. Parker’s Monkey Business Trio—perfect for fans of Bared to You and Beautiful Bastard
Hotshot San Diego sports agent Shaw Matthews and his sexy professional adversary Cassidy Whalen have gone head-to-head in the boardroom—and the bedroom. Now Shaw has scored a big promotion—but only because Cassidy turned it down and ran off. There are many things he wants when it comes to Cassidy—just not her pity. So Shaw rushes to a small town in Maine to retrieve his dignity—and maybe the woman he’s hungry to claim once more.

Cassidy has pushed herself to the max to realize her career dreams—until a family crisis brings her home. But Shaw isn’t letting Cassidy go that easily. Neither is gorgeous heartthrob Casey Michaels, the childhood sweetheart she left behind—and who now wants to win her back. As the rivalry between the two alpha males intensifies, and Shaw’s seductive moves reach a whole new level of heat, Cassidy has to make a choice. And this time, it’s for the highest stakes of all.

Getting Rough is intended for mature audiences.

Praise for C. L. Parker’s Playing Dirty

“Fun, action-packed . . . Readers will be eager to read the sequel, hoping for more rough and dirty sexual acrobatics, friendship, backstabbing, and empathy.”Publishers Weekly

“This snappy, sexy novel moves at breakneck speed, with abundant snark and sports euphemisms. . . . Parker’s penchant for dry humor and vivid, voracious sex scenes breathes life into a well-trodden premise.”Library Journal

“Parker writes intense storylines that anyone can relate to. Her characters are complex, with long and sometimes turbulent pasts that they have overcome, that still continues to affect their present. . . . I cannot wait to see where she takes this new series.”Fresh Fiction

Cassidy and Shaw are my favorite enemies to lovers. They have this chemistry that just explodes when they are near each other. Casey is Cassidy's first love and both of them seem to be confused about some things that were never resolved between them. Shaw goes after Cassidy after she runs off to her home town. He's not quite sure why he does it, as they tend to fight more than anything else, but when he's there he begins to get a better understanding of not only them but of himself. I loved the pacing and development. The loving was hot as hell. Seriously. I can't wait for more!!

I am very satisfied with the second book of this series. Shaw and Cassidy once again proves that their competitive in the office, is also works in their private life. I do love how Shaw fights, like an sexy alpha male he is, with Casey. They both proof to be a worthy competitive when it comes to Cassidy.

On the beginning of the book, I do not like Cassidy. She somehow a immature childish character. Especially when her friends find out about her relationship with Shaw. Then she finally grow some backbone and made the right decision when it comes to her career and her love life. I also do love how Shaw grows out of his jerk character and respect Cassidy.

The character development is very satisfying story. It blends nicely.

Getting Rough is the second book in the Monkey Business trio. It continues the enemies to lovers story of Shaw and Cassidy, two competitive sports agents. The first book, Playing Dirty, heavily emphasized their animosity, and I enjoyed their verbal sparring and underhanded rivalry—not to mention their smoking hot chemistry. This book, however, focuses more on their transition from adversaries to acquaintances to lovers.

Despite the fact I thought the story should have been wrapped up in book one, I was happy to visit Cassidy’s small hometown in Maine. You really get the feeling of living in a close-knit lobster fishermen community. The supporting characters in the town are well-developed and entertaining, and the plot itself is interesting. I have no complaints with the quality of writing; however, the pacing is excruciatingly slow and the book suffers as a result. When I finished, I checked the length thinking it had to be at least 400 pages long. It’s actually only 300 pages, but the story drags on and could easily have been told in far fewer pages.

The connection between Cassidy and Shaw is still incredibly alluring though, and once again the love scenes are scorching! A love triangle between Shaw, Cassidy, and her best friend/ex-boyfriend is introduced. It’s a drama-filled situation that gets resolved a little too neatly and—ironically enough—too quickly on one character’s part to be believable.

While the book is appealing overall, the overdrawn story made it less enjoyable for me than it could have been. Topping it off, the book ends with a cliffhanger. I can’t imagine there’s enough story left to fill up a third book. Perhaps the majority of it will focus on one of the other couples. I’m just not sure I’ll be interested enough to find out.

This one starts off right where book one ends. Shaw and Cassidy made a great move from all-out adversaries to being in love. Then we get to the last chapter and will it ruin everything? I really enjoyed the bonus parts with other characters. Can't wait for the next book.

Do we all remember how the first book ended?
I had to do a little re-read to remember >> #BooksAlzheimers!!! Playing Dirty
Cassidy and Shaw were both fighting with all they had to get the partner position in their sports agency.
And at the end of book #1 Cassidy would've signed this most important client, which would've gotten her the job - BUT - she declined and let Shaw have it all!
He accepted, but he can't be bested by a girl just like that!!!
Why did she do that? Why did she let him win?
Because he told her about his sad childhood? Because they had sex? Why?
Only one way to find out - ask her!
But she's gone!
Gone home to bumfuck Maine, to take care of her parents' Bed & Breakfast, because her mom broke her leg.
And what does Shaw do? Call her? Nope - he follows her to Stonington, Maine. This adorable little fisher island town.

description

But Shaw is not the only one after Cass.
There's also her bestest and oldest friend Casey.
The hottest guy in town. And he's still single and still interested!

description

Casey was always hoping for a happy ever after with the girl he grew up with.
And Shaw? Never did any happy ever after thought ever cross his mind. But Cassidy?
She changed him.

Lots of sexiness happens in Maine....

description

But of course our darlings will still have some fighting to do, to get to their Happy Ever After!!!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO SHAW & CASSIDY??
WILL THERE BE A HAPPY END????
What about Casey? What about this new character Mia?
Will there be a horrible Cliffhanger??

description

I'm not telling you, of course ☺

description

OK - there WILL be a tiny little Cliffy ... Shaw & Cassidy will have their HEA in the next book - hopefully ☺

Great 2nd book!

I really enjoyed it!
It was something completely different from the first one. We're not in San Diego anymore - no boardroom deals - no suits - no big money.
We're in this cute little town where everybody know everybody else's business.
And poor Shaw doesn't fit in at all. He would love to fit in though.
All that home-cooking and cookie-baking and those nice old ladies. He wishes that one of them would adopt him. He had a horrible childhood back in Detroit.
But he's not in town to get adopted. He wants to talk to Cassidy - and maybe take her to bed a few times - and then go back home.
But there's this Casey guy sniffing around his Cassidy!!!

It was so adorable to read about poor Shaw fighting for something he didn't even know he wanted.

We have LOTS of verrrry sexy scenes!!!

description

And lots of very moving scenes!!!
Poor Shaw, poor Casey --- lots of awwww moments!

description

I really enjoyed this book - and I loved the location and Cassidy's & Casey's family. All so adorable and loving.

Were there some things I didn't like?
Hmm....maybe the way Shaw talks too much to us or rather to himself. He digresses here and there and everywhere - it's a tiny bit too much. But he's still an amazingly cool guy!!!
Also - this whole second book was NOTHING like the first one.
I kinda had this whole cheesy Nora Roberts Romance Feeling.
This cozy little island with lots of sexi romance happening. BUT I loved that - it was just so far away from book #1 and from how our darlings acted in book #1 ... ☺

GETTING ROUGH was a the perfect second book in this series!
Very funny & adorable & moving & erotic!! Go and get yourself some Shaw & Casey! ♥
And please Ms. Parker - GIVE. ME. COMING. CLEAN. asap!!!☺☺☺

This is the second book in this series that continues to follow the turbulent and sometimes hilarious and competitive relationship between two top sports agents who fall into an unexpected love while they are both competing for a partnership at their agency. Loved it! Love the characters and their chemistry, loved the story line that includes not just Shaw Mathews and Cassidy Whalen but also Cassidy's ex boyfriend Casey Michaels, her family and all of their shared misfit bunch of friends that they hang out with at the Monkey business bar, this is such an enjoyable read and has the best sex scenes ever.

I love it when an author gets how to write a series of books where anyone can dive in and yet not be lost in the story. This book is part of a series yet is the first book that I read and never felt lost. YAY

The story caught my interest from the beginning. I love the way the author dove right into the book telling story like you were right there watching it all unfold. This story is told from different points of view, from different characters in the book. That makes for multiple points of view and kept the story flowing easily and brought more interest to the book too..

I fell in love with the male lead, Shaw. He is sweet, domineering, arrogant but knows how to treat a woman. I love the heat between the two. You can tell that they really feel for each other and yet they're afraid to open up to each other too. Casey, her best friend is a sweetheart and obviously loves Cassidy. They have a wonderful relationship together.

The author did an awesome job in crafting the story. It was full of action, lots of surprises, and kept you guessing as far as who would be the best choice for Cassidy. Plus, she set up a new couple which will probably lead into another story down the line. yay!

I loved the ending! It was so sweet, full of heat, tons of spicy hotness that you can't get enough of. And the epilogue - that was the best yet! I just loved the story.

This is definitely not the last book I'm reading by this author. I loved the fact that the contemporary storyline was never boring and kept me turning pages late into the night. This is definitely a great book that you're going to want to read for some wonderful romance, steamy scenes, and an overall wonderful story you will be caught up in.

3.5 getting it together stars. I really liked the first book and this one kind of let me down a bit. The dynamics completely shift considering they are no longer in the entertainment world but in a little fisher town in Maine. There's kind of a love triangle thing going on which I didn't particularly like, either. Overall, I was glad to get to see Shaw bloom a bit more, to mature and to own up to is feelings. I was also glad he fought hard for Cassidy.

I really love Cassidy and Shaw and their enemies to more relationship. This book starts where book 1 left off, with Shaw going after Cassidy. This was steamy and sweet and the chapters in Shaw's point of view were pretty hilarious. The only thing I didn't like about this book was getting Mia and Casey's POV because I just wanted more Shaw and Cassidy. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book in this series.

"And the confusion just went up a notch or two on the WTF scale."

After the ending of Playing Dirty I was anxious to get some answers. I had already determined in my mind how I wanted things to turn out and was hoping that the characters cooperated. They were a very passionate couple, constantly fighting, it was very hot…in the office…and in the bedroom. So, I wanted more of that. But in order for that to happen, they needed to be in the same place. Cassidy made that kinda difficult by running off to Maine to be with her family. After giving up the deal she had worked so hard to win, she handed it to Shaw on a silver platter.

Shaw is used to fighting to win. For everything in his life. He never gives up until he has what he wants. Having the deal he was competing for go to her was a huge disappointment, and his pride took a hit. When she took off, it was like winning by default, and that's not his style. He wants answers. He wants… more of her . But he's not admitting that part. Nope, he's gonna confront her and demand an explanation… among other things . While she is demanding in the business world, she's willing to let him be the boss in the bedroom… sometimes . But what will happen now that she gave up the competition for partnership? Now that he's partner, that makes him her boss. How's that gonna work out? Will he ever get the chance to find out? Can he convince her to come back?

When Shaw finally makes it to Maine he gets a few surprises. One of them is Casey, her best friend, and ex-boyfriend. The one that she thought would be her forever. The one who's name is tattooed on her skin. How is he supposed to compete with their connection? Does he even want to? If not, will it be another fight that he loses? Will his desire for her win over his plans to leave the island? What does her daddy think of his presence, and the lust that he can't seem to hide?

I really enjoyed the new characters I met in Maine. They were a nice addition to the existing support characters from the previous book. My favorite is still Quinn. He makes me laugh with his sassy comments and amusing antics. The story is told in multiple POV which is my favorite style. I love being in the head of the characters, cuz I'm just nosy like that. Knowing how they feel, before they actually act on those feelings, kinda holds me over until all the details work out to my satisfaction. And that's a good thing…since I'm still in that holding pattern…waiting for all puzzle pieces to fit together. There's more story to be told, more Monkey Business , and more surprises.

"It's the eye of the storm," he whispered. "But it isn't over yet. In fact, things are about to get rough again. Are you ready?"

I certainly thought I was ready, but I had no idea what I was actually getting myself into emotionally. Getting Rough, as mentioned by C.L. Parker in her Author's Notes, was a very personal journey of breaking down walls, coming to accept new things in life, and, ultimately, taking exactly what you want out of that life. I cannot even begin to describe how evident she made that for her readers throughout the whole story and, thinking back on it, now everything makes a whole lot more sense. The heart that she poured into this book is what makes it a 6+++ star favorite for me. Not only did she have me laughing hysterically at Shaw and his antics and thoughts, but also hoping for so much more from two characters who could not have been more perfect for one another. It is rough at some points (as the title suggests) with two such dominant characters vying for what they think will fulfill their lives while allowing their stubborn personalities to crush all thoughts of happiness at the same time; Shaw's broken past that has led him to a guarded present and Cassidy's fairytale upbringing that is keeping her from finding her true Happily Ever After.

As we move through the book, we see old walls crumbling and new ones being forged with the love of family (and unofficial family), acceptance of a past that is no more, and the hope of a future that can heal two lost souls. The chemistry and banter between the H and h, although expected by how amazing it was in the first book. was even better this time around. Being in a different setting with more personal realizations coming to the forefront made it possible for reality to break through and knock both Shaw and Cassidy on their asses. It was fabulous to experience since I'm sure most readers, myself included, wanted them to recognize exactly what we have been seeing in two books now. I have to say that I loved everything about this book; from the lightheartedness to the more serious and then to the most serious, the childhood fantasies that became reality, and the lust that turned into love. This book had it all for me and I would be remiss if I didn't put my highest recommendation behind it. Well done, once again, Ms. Parker. I will be one of the first to pick up Coming Clean upon release!

Getting Rough is the second book in the Monkey Business Trio series. It picks up right where Playing Dirty left us on a cliffhanger and I have to say that I enjoyed this book even more than the first! The author does mention that this book was personal to her because she poured herself into it and you can really see that shining through in the story.

I absolutely loved the laid-back atmosphere of this book. Cassidy goes back to her hometown of Stonington, Maine, because her mother fell from a ladder and was in the hospital. Shaw finds out where she went and follows her under the pretense of telling her he knows she won Denver Rockford's contract fair and square but she turned it down and practically handed it over to Shaw.

If you read Playing Dirty (which you really should before reading this book) then you know that the relationship between Shaw and Cassidy was anything but tepid. Apparently fighting one another to gain a client and a promotion was a turn on and thing got hot and heavy, but then we were left with a whopper of a cliffhanger. In Getting Rough we find out that Cassidy's mother had fallen off a ladder, was severely injured and Cassidy returned to her childhood home to help her parents run their Bed & Breakfast while her mother heals. Shaw chases after her not knowing what is going on, only knowing that she left. Well, he is in for one heck of a wake-up call when he comes face to face with Casey (you know the guys name that is tattooed onto Cassidy!) and he sees that Casey still has deep feelings for Cassidy.

FUN! FUN! FUN! That is what this book was. The Love triangle was great, but the Love Square was even better. Mia was a breath of fresh air, a romance writer that is on the island to get some background to the new book she is writing, and she's secretly in love/lust with Casey. Yep, you heard that right, we have Casey and Shaw vying for the attention of Cassidy and Mia is hoping to catch the eye of Casey while Cassidy is totally confused about her feelings for everyone including her jealousy towards Mia. Fun all around. I cannot wait for Coming Clean to see what happens next with Shaw and Cassidy.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

Going into Getting Rough, I didn’t realize it was the second book of a series, but I listened to this audiobook perfectly fine on its own. Cassidy Whalen and Shaw Matthews are sports agents, and also enemies turned lovers. I’m a huge fan of enemies-to-lovers romances, because I absolutely love the part when the characters realize their feelings of hate have turned into love. This second book in the Monkey Business Trio is exactly that, with Cassidy and Shaw recognizing the feelings they’ve developed for each other and trying to make something more out of their relationship. The narrators Brian Pallino and Muffy Newton did a wonderful job at voicing their characters, so this audiobook was all-around so fun and sexy to listen to.

Getting Rough picks up with Shaw running after Cassidy all the way to Maine when she gives up a coveted job position to take care of her family. But when the two of them are staying in Maine for the time being, the charm and quaintness of Cassidy’s hometown starts to get to them and their relationship becomes a lot less volatile than it used to be. Everything is more meaningful between and Shaw has most especially realized how much he wants Cassidy for so much more than just her body. The chemistry is still hotter than ever, and Shaw becomes even more alpha when Cassidy’s ex-boyfriend is introduced and wants her back. Even though there’s a bit of a love-triangle (and even a love-rectangle) going on, this didn’t detract from Shaw and Cassidy’s romance at all, and I was rooting for these two from beginning to end.

I love dual-narrator audiobooks, so listening to Getting Rough was perfect for me. Brian Pallino had a smooth, deep voice that I loved, and Muffy Newton was fantastic at narrating Cassidy’s indecisions about what to do with Shaw and her ex. The narration can make or break an audiobook for me, but I have to say that Brian and Muffy’s narrations are the highlight of this audiobook. I’d definitely listen to other audiobooks that they narrate!

If you love enemies-to-lovers romances, or stories with characters with explosive chemistry who draw a thin line between love and hate, I highly recommend Getting Rough. This book is sexy as hell, and listening to the audiobook only made the steamy scenes hotter. I can’t wait for more from the series!

Oh Yeah! I LOVE IT!
Thank you so much for sending me an email to notify me with CL Parker’s new book is now available, and of course it being auto approved! MUCH LOVE FROM ME!

*MC’s Corner*
Note: Spoilers.

• One thing I love and what keeps me coming back to CL Parker books is that they are not too long and not too short. It was all well-balanced, the story, the characters, the twist and yeah, the length.

• Getting Rough… gosh! I enjoyed it very much, if Playing Dirty (book 1) is more to the seduction and games–playing dirty. This one leans more to–this may sound sappy–finding love, family and peace. It’s not all fun, there’s some bumps but ended all good! *thumbs up*

• I kinda hate Casey–Cassidy’s childhood sweetheart/the tattoo–he’s so… I don’t know? Why is he acting like that.
Well, now I forgive him… because he’s a very very hot lobsterman! *wahaha*

• I WANT QUINN & DENVER’S STORY! GOSH!!!

• #EVERYTHING:
o COVER – I approve, it was okay… though I think, if the story is like this. So good. The cover should be something more eye catchy not something like the other typical romance books.
o BACKDROP – FROM THE CITY TO THE SMALL TOWN. It was quite a transition. The people, their jobs and the aura, C.L. Parker captured it very well.
o BELIEVABILITY – It was a very good love story. I’d like to think they are real people. No joke.
o Market – I don’t know… but I think some guys might find this enjoyable.
o Compare to past books… I am a big fan of you C.L. Parker, and I am pretty sure I’ve read all the (published) books you wrote, I say they were pretty consistent. I love them all.

• MUST READ! GET YOUR COPIES! YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Received from Netgalley for s honest review. Cassidy is running but not for the reason that Shaw thinks it's for. After getting the big contract, Shaw finds out it wasn't because he won but because Cassidy gave it to him and now he is mad. Cassidy isn't running from Shaw and his sad past but to her family that needs her. She is going back to the town she never wanted to go back to. Sexual tension, natural disasters, finding the right one are all included in this continuing story by CL Parker. This doesn't end in a cliffhanger but the story continues with Cassidy's & Shaw's story in book three - Coming Clean. Can't wait.

3.5 stars!! The continuation of Shaw and Cassidy's story and while the first book concentrated on Shaw and Cassidy in business and them with their love/hate relationship this was a book where the place find themselves in means they have to really look at their thoughts and feelings. This is an awakening for both of them and for two people that keep their emotions a closely guarded secret to see them both open up was extremely enlightening.

This book continued where the first book ended and really cemented Shaw and Cassidy as a couple.

book review: 5++++++ stars!!!!

This story with every book gets even more awesome. At first, I was spellbound when I had read Playing Dirty, which I enjoyed immensely. But now, I don’t know how should I describe me because I don’t think that there is an appropriate word in any dictionary of any language.

Getting Rough is the sequel of Shaw and Cassidy’s love that started on Playing Dirty. There, as the two best sport agent of the same company, they had to battle for a contract with a first-class athlete which would give the winner also a partnership in the firm. But, throughout their “war”, things got quickly pretty steamy and everything got upside down. Though, when the deadline came to an end, there was an unexpected twist waiting for them. Especially for Shaw, when Cassidy turned down the contract without an explanation. So, now we get to witness him – and swoon over him – to get on the first plane and go after her with the intention to ask for explanations. But, soon he will realize that he is going to get, not only more than he intended, but also even more than he thought he ever wanted.

Her hand was just there under mine. Where it really fucking belonged.

This time, C. L. Parker seriously upgraded this already amazing story with taking it 5 levels higher. Even though, it had became from the start one of my all time favorites, now I just adore adore adore adore it! I was waiting a long long time to read the next part and it was with no doubt worth it every agonized moment of it. Geting Rough surpassed every one of my expectations – which where high btw – from the very first chapter. Also, I was caught off-guard from the variety of emotions that it evoked in me. I never expected that I would feel these things from that story. And not because it wasn’t able, but because the first book never gave that impression. And what a pleasant surprise it was! Also, I more than loved it when she included not just Shaw and Cassidy’s POVs. It was certainly something pleasantly different and a way to give us a better perspective of things, more information about what was happening outside Shaw and Cass’s world in the story and an idea of the emotional state of the other characters whose role proved to be a very important one for the evolution of the main story.

Although, the one thing that I never doubted and I was 1000% sure about, it was the level of steaminess these two can reach. Inside and outside of the bedroom. Their interactions, whatever form they have, are full of it. And there is no way to let you unaffected…. :p Shaw knows very damn well how to give unforgettable orgasms – Cassidy’s words, not mine –
It was a risk I had to take for my family. They were more important than any partnership or any client or any egotistical asshole with a giant chip on his shoulder who just happened to give cosmic orgasms.

and Cassidy knows how to make Shaw give an unforgettable – not only to Cassidy – “performance”. Plus, for the first time, the steaminess and intensity of their bedroom moments, becomes a major part of the expressing of their deepest feelings. And the captivation that I experienced was overwhelming.

But the real real “cruelty” of this books is shown at the end where, except the cliffhanger, there is an unbelievable teaser of the next book, Coming Clean. Like the first wasn’t already enough! I just about died when I read it. And I have to ask: Why?? The cliffhangers are already cruel from their nature. But when they are combined with the a b s o l u t e teaser of the teasers, then the cruelty can easily turn into a DEADLY one in the blink of an eye……. And which made the waiting for the next book even more unbearable.

Wow the plot went off on a tangent I wasn't expecting but it blew me away.

Getting Rough threw me for a bit of a loop as the storyline took a turn I really wasn’t expecting but blew me away none-the-less. The theme of identity takes the focus alongside the romance, concentrating on the way in which we envisage the paths our lives take when reality they go unexpectedly in a completely different direction. The idea that fate/destiny leads us to exactly where we should be and who we should be with. That isn’t saying leaving our old path will be without doubt and a degree of sadness and confusion. All of these emotions and many, many more are portrayed masterfully within Getting Rough.

Letting go of the past and the weight of expectation from within ourselves and that of other people all take its toll on allowing ourselves to become the person we want to be. Please, please, please read the authors notes as they add an extra dimension and additional emotional connection to the plot, characters and events taking place within Getting Rough.

Getting Rough picks up exactly where Playing Dirty ends making it a necessity to read the series in order. Full of sass to accompany the steam, CL Parker’s writing is right up there with Emma Chase and Christina Lauren. Shaw and Cassidy rate as one of the best couples alongside Chloe and Bennett, as well as Kate and Drew ♥ Banter is most definitely the name of the game.

Shaw completely stole the show for me in this story. I adored seeing the inner working of his mind. I can only compare it to being in the middle of a sugar rush or possibly a very bad ADD day, where everything is random and quirky. Yet he is still able to maintain his outward control, wow now that is a skill I would like to have. It is Shaw’s superpower. His character development is nothing short of inspiring. The revelations regarding his upbringing have brought about an air of vulnerability to him. Having never been in a situation where he has had to acknowledge his feelings, he does struggle in being able to recognise the depth of his feelings for Cassidy. Creating more than a little doubt in her mind :(

Unexpected chapters from other characters provide insight into all aspects of the storyline, from the past to the present, the themes of identity and expectations as well as the relationships.

The Monkey Business series just keeps getting better and better, I cannot wait to see who stars in Coming Clean.

When you open a book, sometimes you expect a good story to give you so much excitement and delight. You also expect to give you the most satisfied look when you finish or makes you say, "That was really amazing book,". To me thst was what Getting Rough was to me. It was one of those books that made you high and giddy with happiness and stuck to you in so many places in your heart and soul.

Getting Rough is a continuation story of Shaw and Cassidy and book 2 of the Monkey Trio series. It also continues where book 1 left us. In my mind, I felt Getting Rough was about the journey of two characters. It was not much about the sex or chemistry but about finding yourself and learning about who learning who you are. I mean yes the sex was off charts. I'm not going to deny about that. It had me hot a lot of times lol. But I actually got more out of this book. C.L. Parker allowed herself to delve deeper into the characters thoughts and feelings and allowed me as a reader to really know who the characters were.

When I said this book was about each characters' journey, I meant it was about their struggle to be who they are and to let go of their former selfs. I got to really understand Shaw and Cassidy a lot more that on book 1. I was able to feel what they felt. The author was able to show so much growth in her characters and I commend her greatly that she was able to let me see as a reader the true light of things. I call it weaving magic. She weaved so much magic into this story.

I loved that the story flowed so easily and made me feel comfortable. Sometimes you need stories like this. Stories to make you feel comfortable and happy. This book was written by an author who really cared were she wanted her story to take off. I loved the way that it was written to maje you laugh. It was witty and full of awesome banter.

Overally, Get Rough was a story of learning to love someone and removing all your inhibitions you have. It was also an honest story that made you really swoon and feel your heart with glee.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Ever since that little cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I was already patiently waiting for the next installment. Honestly, I didn't even love the first book that much, but I just wanted to see what the hero was going to do, especially with the growing feelings between him and the heroine and especially knowing what the heroine did for him. Initially, I thought that both main characters were too clashing to ever have a good ending.

I have to say that Getting Rough was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting your usual continuation to the story and more conflicts along the way. I was glad to see the journey that both main characters had in this book. If I thought it was difficult for the two of them to work things out in the previous book, this book made me realize that they were actually great for each other. I liked the development that the hero went through. He started out as a jerk who was very good at his job but wasn't any good on anything else. I liked how he grew up throughout the story.

There's supposed to be another book. I personally think the story is already finished. I'll probably be checking out the third book because I'm really curious to know how the author is going to play things out with the serial, or even if it's still going to be about the same main characters. Anyway, Getting Rough is a sexy, entertaining book that I really enjoyed reading.

NetGalley provided a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

C. L. Parker’s latest instalment in the Monkey Business Trio #2 is a steamy read. Getting Rough follows the journey of successful sports agent Shaw Matthews. He is a man with a dark past and appears to be self absorbed—perhaps at any cost. Cassidy Whalen is an ambitious agent as well. Shaw and Cassidy have competed professionally. The chemistry between them is undeniable. They appear to want a no strings attached relationship—or do they?

Cassidy must return to her small town in Maine after receiving news of her mother’s accident. For some reason, Shaw follows her. And the story begins and moves quickly. Cassidy’s childhood sweetheart and Shaw’s unexpected appearance makes her homecoming complicated.

The author has written a character driven story. Getting Rough moves quickly as the characters find their way and are forced to explore their true feelings. The author’s visual descriptions of the setting paint a perfect picture. The reader will feel that they are in small town Maine. The characters voices are strong and distinct as they share their individual point of view.

This story is far from over. Looking forward to the next book in Monkey Business Trio.

So, as i said in my review for 'Playing Dirty' I was having issues with the whole 'Monkey Business' name - that hasn't changed, i don't know what it is but it just bugs me.

In 'Getting Rough' we are reunited with Shaw who has chased Cassidy to Stonington like a complete loon, I'm not really sure why. We meet Cassidy's ex, Casey who is something of a wet fish, he has this new bird hanging around called Mia who is equally wet, they're welcome to one another as far as i'm concerned and if Parker decides to write a spin off for those two, i will not be reading. Casey being the type of man who says of Cassidy "She was just too much of a woman for me, I want someone who is a little more docile".....whatever Casey.
Shaw is as arrogant as ever, he describes himself constantly as an alpha but i think that for the most part he behaves like a petulant child, i have no idea what Cassidy sees in him. Cassidy is still awesome, i'm kind of in love with her.

There was a little more substance in this book but not really by much, the sex scenes are very rinse and repeat and i have absolutely no tingles for Shaw so i'm really not into the parts where they get it on, i was sort of cringing by the end of it. I probably won't be reading the third book.

I was provided an ARC to review, via Netgalley. I was excited to receive this book because the first installment was highly entertaining. Shaw and Cassidy were two cut-throat professionals focused on their careers and paid very little attention to the personal portions of their life. It was fun watching them fight one another as well as their need and attraction.

This installment, however, took a very different turn. These two woke up in Maine but also in a parallel universe of non-fiction. I felt, at times, like I was reading a grocery store check-out paperback. It was so cheesy that I can't even begin to describe it. Still hot...so I guess melted cheese. However, the pining over Casey and vice versa ended instantly for both Cassidy and Casey, during a hurricane, no less. Bizzare. I feel like this book and it's entire time in the eerie cult like small town of Stonington made very little sense for these two professional and complex characters. It was like Parker gave in and just decided to find new hook up opportunities. Which is cool. she wrote the heck out of those. But, if you're hoping to get more intellectual foreplay in this book, you won't find it.

This is the continuation of the crazy relationship between Shaw Matthews and Cassidy Whalen that first began in Playing Dirty. Two sports agents competing to represent the same athlete and win partner status. They may be adversaries on the job but their chemistry between the sheets, or the back of the limo, or....anywhere really, is off the charts. So when Cassidy abruptly leaves town basically handing Shaw the win with the athlete and the promotion, he just can't leave it alone. Shaw follows her back to her hometown in Maine to find out exactly what happened. What he finds is a side of Cassidy he's never seen before and a loving nurturing family that lures him in.

This is a very enjoyable read but while it may appear that they get their HEA, their story isn't quite finished yet! I highly recommend this book.

Just as exciting as the first book. I liked that we got to meet Cassidy's family and friends. I also liked the added love stories of Cassidy's best friends. Can't wait to read the third book.

4.5 Stars.

Shaw and Cassidy are still sexy as hell but I loved seeing their softer sides this time around. And Shaw has a fantastic sense of humor too!

This was a great followup to the first book about Cassidy and Shaw. In this one, Shaw follows Cassidy to her hometown to try to find out why she turned down signing the athlete that the two had been competing over in order to win a promotion. Cassidy and Shaw were great in this one, and there were some wonderful secondary characters. I loved the way that Abby, the mother of Cassidy's childhood sweetheart, Casey, took Shaw under her wing and mothered him. The storyline was a great one, and i kept me interested and wondering what would come next. I really enjoyed this book!

Title: Getting Rough
Author: C.L. Parker
Publisher/Year: Random House 1/2/6/16
Length: 245 Pages
Series: Monkey Business Trio #2

Overview

My Thoughts

Something's clearly wrong with me that i forgot all about this series for a while. That or i've just had way too much other reading and stuff going on these past months. Well, thankfully i've found my way back into the world of Shaw and Cassidy since there was a lot of really interesting stuff going on there.

If you remember, these 2 work at the same talent agency and they were after the contract of the best quarterback out there. Whoever won would get promoted to partner and have the world at their fingertips. Through a series of events, Cassidy won the contract but turned it down to Shaw who got the promotion, while Cass ended up flying back home to Maine for a family situation.

If that weren't all, there was the love hate relationship throughout the first book that we all knew was going to get explosive and hot fast. which it did. So that's kind of where we pick up in book two. Cass is hope as her mother had a pretty bad fall, and for some reason, Shaw has decided to fly out there to figure out why she left and to claim his woman in the most cavemen of ways.

Throughout this 2nd installment, we get a really sweet story of the man fighting for his woman, but we also have the other piece of the story of fighting your roots and who you are in order to be who you want to be. Cass has a past in Maine and one that she's not sure she'll ever leave behind - that in the form of Casey. So there's an interesting love triangle type thing going on here since there's jealousy all around and unrequited feelings that will almost certainly never go away. Of course we have to add in another female by the name of Mia who's a romance author and who also ends up writing a story basically about Cass and Casey's romance - so it's going to get good right?

Add in a hurricane, a few people almost dying and you have yourself a really great story. The biggest questions that we ask ourselves throughout this installment are who will end up with whom and at what cost. there are so many feelings all around that you hate to see someone leave with a broken heart but you also want to see that people are living up to their ambitions. it's inevitable where the story will go, but i feel like you always want to root for certain folks.

The ending though is a nice transition and surprise. the way that they are all brought back to reality is through something that really had no play in this story so it was nice to get the shift back to the world. the other thing too in the epilogue type thing is that we get to see a glimpse of what's going to happen next potentially since the world is about to flip again.

Review:

In this second book of the Monkey Business Trio series, we read once again from Cassidy and Shaw's point of views, but also from two new additions to the story that will cause a lot of trouble to these two.

This time, was continue the story that left us open-mouthed in that first book when Cassidy simply leaves and Shaw goes after her (YAY!). But Shaw's intention was to reprimand Cassidy for dropping out the job, but ends up more entangled in their relationship. However, the famous Casey, Cassidy's ex-boyfriend, is also in the picture this time and is threatening Shaw's relationship by trying to win Cassidy back. In the meantime, a new addition in the group called Mia will force a jealousy outburst on Cassidy.

Overall, it was a good story. We find a bit of conclusion and I was left more satisfied with this ending than the previous one. However, this doesn't mean I don't want to read the third book! I like that finally Casey is in the picture and Cassidy has the chance to have closure either with Shaw or with Casey. Despite that Shaw knew thanks to Cassidy's tattoo and what she told him in the first book, that she had a soft spot for her ex-boyfriend. Despite that, there are some scenes in the book that I just want to hug Shaw and smack him in the head for not being more angry about it!

Regarding the four POV we encounter in this book... since the story is focused on the two main characters, Cassidy and Shaw, the change of POV's was not as important to me as a reader as Cassidy's or Shaw's. Is true that the other POV's give an extra insight to the relationships in the story, but I have to confess that I cared more for the main couple.

Overall, this was the book to the character's path to a happy ending: solving their problems, their relationships and finally saying to The One, that they are in love with her/him. It was nice to see those changes throughout the story and there's a big change from the characters we know to the ones we end up having on the epilogue. And I just love when there is a big progression in the story.

I recommend the book to those romance readers out there who won't mind having steamy and sexy scenes in their stories. This is not a book you can grab without reading the first. I highly recommend that you read the first book in the series before starting with this one.

I received this ARC in exchange of an honest review. Thank you to Penguin Random House for offering me this copy and giving me the chance to continue this series.
