Promises After Dark (After Dark #3) by Kahlen Aymes
5 stars!!
I have loved this series from the very start and with two dominant characters you knew that you were always going to be in for an interesting ride and this conclusion was a perfect end for these two. However, that does not mean I am ready to let this couple go, I want more!!
Angel and Alex have had more than their fair share of problems throughout the first two books and this comes to an amazing climax in this final instalment. Swanson is forever making his presence felt, but desperate times call for desperate measures and Swanson is definitely desperate. Personally I felt Kahlen Aymes nailed this aspect of the story, the slow burn that has caused ripples throughout the previous two books, suddenly becomes a tsunami and climatic is not the word. It truly was a edge of your seat, nail biting, heart stopping, oh my god what the hell am I reading kind of climax. I totally and utterly loved it.
Alex totally and utterly made this book, if you were ever on the fence about whether he was boyfriend material or sincere or ever questioned his intentions with Angel he will totally win you over in this instalment. To condense it to one word, he was PERFECT. He may be an alpha but when it comes to Angel he is a pussycat. Angel is his achilles heel, he will do anything and I mean anything for her. He is fiercely protective and loyal and in this instalment we also get to see his romantic side and he can really turn it on when he wants to. He is charming, he is passionate, he is all-consuming and he has a heart of gold. The chemistry between these two is seriously off the charts and I felt the burn, the pages were seriously hot, combustible, seriously smoking!
The one thing that was really apparent in this book was their growth and not as individuals, these two grew as a couple. Finally, they realise that relationships are give and take and there was lot of giving and a little taking. But most importantly, they were there for each other, they compromised and they did whatever they could to keep their relationship alive and flourishing. They both wanted this relationship to work and you felt their dedication. These two were destined to be together, they complement each other, they bring out the best in each other they loved each other, wholly and completely and you felt it.
I have to mention Alex’s choice of partner when the Swanson plot comes to a head…this shows how far Alex has come and at this point I was so proud of him. Yes he is ruthless in the business world but he can also apply this to real life situations and in this book it was called upon a lot. Alex really stepped up to the plate, proved he had balls and no matter the situation or the repercussions he did what was necessary to achieve his end goals.
Kahlen Aymes can always pen a hot romance, for me it is her trademark, she always manages to bring her characters to life and that is definitely the case with Angel and Alex. I feel as if I have lived this story with them, when they hurt, I hurt, when they loved, I loved and I really do not want this to be the end. This is another Kahlen Aymes trait, I always get separation anxiety.
All I can say is that Kahlen has hit another winner with this one. Fantastic conclusion.

I've never had a book series that had me waiver so much on my like or dislike of the books. I loved book 1, tolerated book 2 and liked book 3. I'm not a huge fan of pushing away and constant arguing which is the sum of book 2. What made it even worse for me was that the couples wasn't together for the majority of that book. If you like that sort of thing, you will love this series. Thankfully, book 3 dealt with less pushing/arguing and more with the couple working together in the face of danger. I think this series had such potential to being in my top 5. It is well written, the characters are mature and intriguing and the plot was exciting. Unfortunately, book 2 cast a dark cloud over the whole series for me.

Loved the first 80 % of this book..the rest, not so much.
It was a bit too cheesy for my taste.

J&G: After falling in love with the After Dark series in book one, we were really looking forward to this final ininstallments we’ve followed come to know the characters, shared their ups and downs, their passion, love and indecisions. Not to mention the suspense that sometimes had us gripping our Kindles, or the wonderful heart melting moments between Angel, Alex and little Jillian. Promises After Dark was certainly full of suspense that’s for sure. Alex, Angel, their families and friends certainly had their hands full in this installment.
“I can do anything. I can take anything on, but I can’t lose you.”
We will admit that we groaned a little at the opening pages as Angel was once again questioning Alex’s commitment, but she soon got her head straight and realised this guy meant business. Honestly, we don’t know what else he could’ve done to convince her that she’s the air he breathes. Life without her is meaningless and wow, didn’t we just fall in love with Alex all over again. This guy can do no wrong in our eyes. Angel did find her feet Promises and once more became the gutsy, feisty, sensual, loving and passionate woman we fell in love with in book one so it was good to see that side of her return.
“You’re fucking beautiful.”
“So are you. You are the most beautiful man I’ve even seen.”
Although we were invested in this couple and seeing their story through to the end we have to admit that at times we did become a little jaded. There was a lot of repetition and over descriptiveness that slowed the story down which in turn caused us to disconnect in some ways. In saying that, we would be in a lull one minute, only to have Kahlen Aymes drag us back into the story and have us holding our breaths the next.
“To say I love you is not enough. Seriously, I can’t breathe, I love you so much.”
For us, Angel After Dark has been the standout book in this series. There was something so evocative about Angel and Alex meeting, something so sensual in the way they responded to one another that seemed to be missing in this book. Oh sure, there was ample nookie, but we didn’t feel the zing of electricity that was so apparent in Angel After Dark and though the emotion between Angel and Alex was certainly felt at times.
“I want you. Every second when you’re with me or when you’re not; it doesn’t matter.”
The scenes with Jillian were just too adorable for words. Kahlen Aymes nailed the personality of this darling little girl. So much so; to the point where we would read her scenes as three year olds. Yep, they were THAT convincing. Now, this is where our biggest issue came in to being. After spending so much time with Alex and Angel, after going through so many ups and downs, seeing their relationship flourish, after going through so much with them, we needed to get a real glimpse into their future. Whilst the epilogue did satisfy some parts of us, it felt a little lacklustre. There was an element to the story (we don’t want to ruin it for anyone) that we desperately wanted to see played out between this couple, however it wasn’t to be and we were crushed. So much emphasis was put on their relationship with Jillian that we wanted, no needed, to see them capture that for themselves.
“I love you a whole lot.”
“I know. I’m counting on that.”
So, would we recommend this series? DEFINITELY, because despite our small misgivings, we wouldn’t have missed meeting Alex and Angel for the world. We’ve had a few laughs with them, our hearts have been melted a time or two, there have been a few tears shed and plenty of racing pulses along the way.

The bedroom scenes are heated, but beautifully constructed with so much emotion, you can’t help but feel enamoured by these characters, as they come together (pardon the pun) on every conceivable level - emotionally and physically.
The crime-thriller element really gives this series substance, because it could have been another millionaire mogul meets feisty female, but it is so much more than that. Angel’s character really comes into her own in this one. We have seen her question Alex’s motives, to the point that if it continued for much longer it would have been somewhat monotonous, but as it stands, her acceptance is highlighted beautifully and I was so proud of her for finally embracing what Alex so clearly wants to give.

I've loved this series so far. In fact it's is one of my favourite's of the year and as such I couldn't wait to get my hands on the conclusion to Angel and Alex's story.
"Promises After Dark" started out so perfectly. I mean as soon as I read the title of the first chapter "You & Me," I was swooning. Everything was so dreamy and romantic for one of my favourite book couples.
Alex Avery completely stole my heart in this story. To me, he reminded me a lot of Christian Grey and Gideon Cross, a mixture of the two and a perfect book boyfriend. Alex continued to be madly in love with Angel and was not afraid to show it. He was crazy obsessed with her and he melted my heart with how much love he had for this woman.I was pea green with envy!
Its was of no surprise to me that Angel was still as stubborn as ever. Throughout the series, she has always remained fiercely independent and reluctant to give all of her heart to Alex. I always felt a little frustrated with her actions. However by the end of this story, I don't think Angel had any reservations about who owned her heart.
Throughout the story, I noticed that Cole and Becca were getting kinda close. There was definitely something simmering between the pair and I was left wondering if Kahlen would continue their story with another book. I am hoping that she will and maybe I will get a chance to catch up with Alex and Angel. I am going to miss them :-(

It was true. She knew it, too. She was going to grow old with this man.As the story progressed, I discovered a lot of dramatic and nail biting parts, some sizzling hot scenes and some tender and romantic parts. But I also found that some bits became a little repetitive, especially where the pace slowed down. Despite this, I still enjoyed this conclusion to the series. If you are a fan of Alex and Angel, you won't want to miss this book. If you are not already smitten by Alex Avery, you will be after reading this story, especially after the epilogue which gave the series a beautiful ending.

Promises After Dark is the third book in the After Dark series, and WOW did this conclusion really go out with a bang!! I have loved following Angel and Alex's passionate, fiery, relationship through this series. Angel has a strong, almost alpha male, take no crap personality and Alex's caveman, hot headed personality wrapped up in a sex god of a man, that would make any woman's ovaries explode with one quick glance. Put Alex and Angel together and it's like fireworks going off in all directions.
This book took me on one roller coaster of emotions. There were many a time the twist and turns in this book took my breath away while holding it in the next with the suspense and plot twists. There is so much that is going on in this story, I could not stop turning the pages wanting to know what was going to happen next. Kahlen really has a great writing style that grips you tight, makes you fall in love with the characters, plot lines that are well developed, bedroom scenes that will leave you wanting to leave the room to cool yourself down, but then rushing back to indulge in some more. If you thought Alex was hot before, he just turned it up a notch in this last instalment and has gone all out for us ladies, and boy what a finale.
I found myself so engrossed in this story I was frantically trying to get to the end to find out if Alex and Angel got their HEA because jeez, if one couple deserved it, it was them.I mean how much can a couple take? But that just made me love them both even more. The risks they took, the never giving up on their friends and each other. Each obstacle that got in their way, every spanner that got thrown in their direction just made them more stronger and determined to be together and make sure everyone was safe.
That just leaves me to say Kahlen Aymes has done it again. Another amazing series that deserves 5 stars from me. I am also hoping Cole and Becca get a story of their own as I could do with another hot Avery brother to spend some time with to help get me over my Alex withdrawals.
I recommend The After Dark Series to anyone who adores Kahlen's books as much as I do or, if your looking for a sexy, romantic read with added thrills, suspense and a great story line running through it, this is the series for you.
Promises After Dark is the third book in the After Dark series, and WOW did this conclusion really go out with a bang!! I have loved following Angel and Alex's passionate, fiery, relationship through this series. Angel has a strong, almost alpha male, take no crap personality and Alex's caveman, hot headed personality wrapped up in a sex god of a man, that would make any woman's ovaries explode with one quick glance. Put Alex and Angel together and it's like fireworks going off in all directions.

I am going to seriously miss Alex and Angel. They have to be one of my all time favorite book couples. I LOVED them from the very first book (Angel After Dark) to the last book (Promises After Dark). If you like a book/series that has everything…then this is the series you NEED to pick up and read.
This is the third book in the series, but just like the other two, it has everything you want in a book. We got love and romance, HOT sexy scenes, and suspense and intrigue. I was happy to see that we really didn't have heartbreak in this book when it came to Angel and Alex. I loved how they worked everything out together :) This book will be hard for you to put down. I know my stomach was in my throat and my heart was in my stomach for a good part of this book. There were some unanswered things after book two (Confessions After Dark) but rest assured everything is answered and put to rest in this book. I am not going to say much about the plot of this book, because I really think it would spoil both book two and three. Just know that this book takes off right where book 2 ended. There is no time lost.
Again, as was the same in book 1 and 2, the writing was flawless. Kahlen created a story that sucked you in and didn't let go until the very end. You can't turn the pages fast enough when it comes to this book. The only reason I didn't give this a full 5 stars like the other two books, was because I thought the beginning was a little slow and that there was some over detailing. I think some things could've been cut out to shorten the book and nothing would've been lost or missing. But that didn't deter me from fully enjoying this book/series. This is definitely one that I will read again and again and has a place on my favorites shelf at home :)
I will say that this book was NOT an easy journey for Alex and Angel. They had some serious things to overcome in this book. Both needed to learn to trust each other and believe in each others love. They truly were tested in this book, but like I said I am glad they got through it all together!!!! I was extremely happy to see that Angel was back to the character I liked in book 1….I felt she lost herself a little in book 2 and was a little too whiny, but thankfully she wasn't like that in this book. Alex was his normal dreamy self but even better….if that's possible!!!! I was glad we got to see more of Cole (Alex's brother) and Becca and Jillian (Angel's BFF and Becca's daughter) I even think that Kahlen hinted at something happening between Becca and Cole….maybe there will be a spinoff for these two characters. I posted a little teaser last week, making my plea for the fact that as great as this book is and PLEASE let me emphasise that this book is great… I honestly believe that the story has more to tell.
The Characters haven’t finished and I am desperate to hear them finish there tale. PLEASE!
Well, that is my plea made, so back to this book and what was it like, well you know the score, after the last book, we have been left with a state of constant anguish hanging over both Angel and Alex, their mutual nemesis Swanson is pivotal in the story and revels in their pain but the fool is deluded if he for one second believes that Alex will allow anything to happen to Angel, this man is so Alpha he could give lessons!
He is almost psychotic when it comes to keeping Angel safe, nothing and no-one will get in his way, and Swanson is carefully placed himself in Alex’s line of fire and he will do whatever it takes to take him down, once and for all.
I loved the intensity that was portrayed around the situation with Swanson, the impact that they couldn’t escape and the measures that were required to keep everyone out of harm’s way.
I thought this book enabled me to appreciate the delicate work that was laid in the previous novels, it allowed me to draw my own conclusions and allowed me time to understand that as deep as they thought their love was for each other, it was nothing until it had been tested and then and only then was it unbreakable.
I love the fact that Angel is a serious challenge to Alex, someone that can play him at his own game and is as good as equal to him in society, a respected member of the legal profession who can hold his court anytime she pleases, because when it comes to Angel, Alex Avery is lost, Hook, Line and Sinker!
As much I could appreciate Angel’s character it was Alex that held my attention, he was simply the most delectable human being, he worships his woman and would walk over hot coals to keep her safe, and with Swanson on their trail he may just have too.
Fiercely protective, sometimes his devotion could cloud his judgement but that was a positive to the story, it showed his vulnerability, the fact that fear and emotion makes us do things that maybe aren’t always the smartest step to take but over which we have absolutely no control, instinct kicks in and you become a passenger on the ride, hoping that you and those you love will still be in one piece when you get to the end.
When Alex reaches out for someone to have his back when the situation with Swanson gets desperate, I have to say that I was slightly shocked at the measures that he was prepared to take and the associates that he took in to his confidence in order to achieve them.
From the first paragraph of the first book, it has been blatantly obvious that if ever two people we meant to be together it was Angel and Alex, they bring out the best in each other and despite the uncertainty that initially surrounded their ability to accept the inexplicable draw that seemed to tether them to each other, I have to say that in this book, they are a pleasure to read, they have this relationship under control and are simply awesome together.

What a brilliant finish to an amazing love story. Kahlen delivers a memorable, all consuming love affair with this amazing series that is surely to have you begging for more. This final instalment in the After Dark series is everything I wished or could have asked for. The series started off so strong and each book just got better and better.
As like the last one this one is filled with so much passion, desire and angst. I was on the edge of my seat feeling like I was going through the motions with Alex and Angel. My heart was so full at times and my emotions were running high. This book was so well written that there wasn’t a moment where I didn’t feel like I was right there by these characters sides. When Swanson reemerges into their lives I literally felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was so anxious and on edge that I was literally holding my breath.
Alex and Angel’s relationship is just so perfect that I couldn’t help feel a bit jealous. Alex is this wonderful, consuming, thorough lover who adores and loves Angel so much. He came alive on the pages. Honestly their whole romantic journey did. Alex truly is one of best book boyfriends to have come along in a while. He is everything book boyfriends are made of and so much more. Angel has always been a strong heroine in my eyes but in this book we get to see just how strong and fierce she is. She didn’t take anyone’s crap before and she certainly doesn’t now. She’s just as feisty and witty as ever. Even when faced with some horrendous things she doesn’t cower. They truly are the perfect couple you hope to read about in every book. Their chemistry just absolutely oozes off the pages. So freaking hot.
I really love this series. Everything gets tied up perfectly, nothing leaves you guessing. I loved that the banter continues on throughout this book. Especially with Angel. This story, this series, truly has everything you could want out of a romance novel. Like the others, I could not put this book down. I’m sad to see it end but I do hope we see a spin off from this series. I would love to see Becca and Cole get a story. I cannot tell you all enough if you haven’t started this series then you need to. You’ll be kicking yourself wondering why you waited once you do.

The man that should be locked up securely in jail has been released on bail and is leaving a path of destruction behind him in his quest to get to Angel. The force of nature that was Alex Avery is back!
Alex and Angel were finally at a good place in their relationship. Feelings were admitted and although doubts and insecurities were still hovering, they were working it out together.
Their relationship was still as emotional and erotic as ever and their love all-consuming.
Alex was possessive and all-alpha, but he actually welcomed and enjoyed it when Angel pushed back and gave as good as she got. He was protective but he acknowleged that Angel was no pushover, so he made allowances in his methods of protecting her. I loved that he was respectful of her independence despite the worries and troubles it caused him in protecting her from the criminal who was still determined to cause her harm.
They were both alpha personalities, both not used to being emotionally vulnerable, but they learned to compromise.
The story was fast-paced; the criminal who was after Angel provided the touch of suspense; Alex's brother, Cole, bumped up the "hotness" factor; Angel's bestie, Becca, brought hilarity and spunk; and as always, Alex and Angel's intensity was off the charts!
In true Kahlen Aymes fashion, the emotions expressed by the main characters was the strength of the story. It was reminiscent of her Remembrance trilogy, in the sense that the dialogues between the characters about the depth of their feelings will suck you in. You will not be left wanting, you will literally feel the emotions along with the characters. Kahlen's niche, in my opinion, is creating and expressing the true meaning of all-consuming love. I've read a lot of really hot intimate scenes, some were exceptionally good. But what sets Kahlen's work apart from the others was the emotion. You don't appreciate the sexy scenes because they were hot and creative, rather, you'd appreciate it because you will always be aware of the intense feelings behind the act.
This was the conclusion of their story, and I loved how this book was paced. Nothing was rushed, but it wasn't dragging either. Much like the couple's quest to find their happily-ever-after - this book will take you on a ride filled with bumps and hurdles which made reaching the destination that much sweeter.

What a great end to an amazing series. I have loved following along with Alex and Angel's story. Boy did this series go out with a BANG!!!! The final third of the book was a huge roller coaster ride, where you didn't know what was going to happen and were afraid of what might happen. There were many points where I was holding my breath and wanting to cover my eyes so I didn't see what might happen. This is the epitome of a romantic suspense.
We get a lot of romance, hot hot romance!!! Just when you think Alexander Avery can't get any hotter he goes and shows his romantic side, from special dates to laying his feelings out in the open. You will fall even more in love. One of the things I loved most about this book and characters is that they don't change as individuals but they grow together as a couple. This is it! What we have all been waiting for! The final installment to this amazing, hot, and sexy trilogy by Kahlen Aymes. This book was everything I thought it would be and more. This series has made me a fan of this author for life.
This book was full of suspense, angst, steam, twists, turns, nail biting moment, and has one man who will do anything to protect the woman he loves. This is the final installment for Alex and Angel. Will they be able to face the obstacles ahead? Alex is determined to prove to Angel that he is worth the risk and will protect her at all costs. As these two work towards the future, others are out to end it. Will Alex and Angel finally get their happy ending?
I loved Angel and Alex together. I have been rooting for them from the very beginning. These two were made for each other. I loved how their personalities clashed but it was so perfect for them. The battle of wills, their banter.... and their love all show how perfect they are. And between the sheets, these two are off the charts scorching!
I also must say that watching Alex grow through this series from the womanizing playboy to the man he is today was amazing. This author did a flawless job creating him to be the perfect alpha male.
I highly recommend this series!

This book was full of suspense, angst, steam, twists, turns, nail biting moment, and has one man who will do anything to protect the woman he loves. This is the final installment for Alex and Angel. Will they be able to face the obstacles ahead? Alex is determined to prove to Angel that he is worth the risk and will protect her at all costs. As these two work towards the future, others are out to end it. Will Alex and Angel finally get their happy ending?
I loved Angel and Alex together. I have been rooting for them from the very beginning. These two were made for each other. I loved how their personalities clashed but it was so perfect for them. The battle of wills, their banter.... and their love all show how perfect they are. And between the sheets, these two are off the charts scorching!
I also must say that watching Alex grow through this series from the womanizing playboy to the man he is today was amazing. This author did a flawless job creating him to be the perfect alpha male.

Great trilogy
Alex Avery...total swoon. The perfect book boyfriend! Bossy, arrogant, rich, smokin' hot, and completely dreamy. Angel got on my nerves a little when she kept questioning (and questioning, and doubting, and questioning) his commitment to her. She had her reasons, but I'm not sure what else he could have done. When she finally got her head out of her a$$, it was on! Their sexy times were off the charts H.O.T!!!

Onestamente, in questo terzo e ultimo volume della serie After Dark di Kahlen Aymes, ci sono stati alcuni capitoli e sviluppi della trama che non mi hanno particolarmente soddisfatta.
Dunque, i protagonisti già li conosciamo, come dimenticare i classici due personaggi perfetti che insieme lo diventano ancora di più? Confesso che questa prerogativa della scrittrice mi dà non poco fastidio.
Il secondo volume mi ha colpita più del primo, ma con quest’ultimo penso sia stato fatto un passo indietro.
Ciò che mi ha fatto spazientire e annoiare sin da subito sono stati i primi due capitoli troppo incentrati sull’attività sessuale dei protagonisti. Attenzione, vi garantisco che so apprezzare le scene erotiche nei libri, ma quando queste si protraggono per due capitoli consecutivi diventano monotone e noiose, facendo passare la voglia di continuare a leggere. Quindi, sarò onesta e vi dirò che ho fatto fatica a continuare ma per fortuna ero speranzosa in un miglioramento.
Oltre a ciò non mi ha convinto tutta la storia inerente al criminale Mark Swanson. A a mio parere non è stata gestita bene dall’autrice, perché mi ha dato la sensazione che ci fosse una falla nelle motivazioni delle scelte di trama. A causa di ciò, i personaggi tutto d’un tratto sono apparsi abbastanza stupidi: uno come Alex Avery, uomo che rasenta la perfezione, non capisce sin da subito il piano criminale, quando questo era palese a chiunque, lettore compreso?
Inverosimile vero? Ebbene questo mi è sembrato uno scivolone pazzesco da parte dell’autrice che mi ha lasciata molto perplessa e delusa.
La scrittura, tralasciando qualche refuso qua e là, è comunque scorrevole tranne nei capitoli dove le morbose scene di sesso la fanno da padrone. Purtroppo anche le emozioni sono venute a mancare.
In conclusione, vi consiglio di leggerlo se avete già letto i primi due, così da poter concludere tutta la storia.

WOW! This series is so good. Kahlen Aymes has written another book and the last book of the After Dark series and this one beats them all. My emotions were everywhere. The suspense is this book had me at the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down! Again you can see each and every scene. The characters are awesome. And finally to meet the other man in Angel's life, her father Joe. Since he and her uncle and a friend that raised her since her mother just split at Angels age of 2. Angels best friend Becca and daughter Jillian aka "Bean" are more prominent in this book. Bean is so cute and she has grabbed Anga and Zander's heart. Once you read her description and her 3 year old language will grab your heart. She is so darn cute.
Angel has given her heart to Alex finally. Alex has finally found the women of his life and will do anything to protect her from the evil Mark Swanson. Angel and Alex go thru hell in this book with him. This book again has kept me on the very edge of my seat and could NOT put it down. The suspense is so strong you wont stop reading for anything.
The end will grab your heart and bring on the tears. So be sure to have plenty of Kleenex tissues handy.
Kahlen has written this series so well it draws you into the characters world. I loved this series and Im sure other readers will too.

Promises After Dark is the final stand off for Alex and Angel, not only for those that want to do harm but with their feelings. Plenty of laughs with the wise crack remarks form Angels smart mouth. Alex doesn’t always get what he wants. Or does he? Plenty going on in this final book in and out of the sheets.

Emotions, born of desperateness, flooded her heart until she physically hurt. He was here, and he was real. When they were together like this, she had no doubt he was as committed as she was.
Alex and Angel may have confessed their love for each other, but it seems that was the easy part. Now they are both suffering the insecurities of a new relationship, the jealousy over past loves (or affairs as it were), and the confusion over the overwhelming intensity with which they crave each other, but as scared and unsure as they are at times-they can't deny that they do love each and will do whatever it takes to be together. And if all that isn't enough to deal with, there is the fear surrounding them on a daily basis that goes by the name of Mark Swanson. After Angel's attack, and while waiting for the trial to start, Mark is out on bail and Alex is finding himself going to all new lengths to protect his love from the man she sent to prison. His limits will be pushed beyond anything he could have been prepared for but he will do whatever it takes to keep his Angel safe and at his side.
The primeval part of him roared and had his caveman ownership of Angel shoved into overdrive. It was a lack of control and he despised it. He didn't like feeling threatened, and he didn't like that his logical mind was unable to quell the tightness in his chest. He hated it. Fuck.
I have to admit, I am a newcomer to this series-as in, this was my first book read. While it was clear to me right from the start that I'm am arriving at the party fashionably late; I never suffered any confusion. Kahlen did a fantastic job of filling in the blanks without overloading us with detail or veering too far off the current story. And though I never felt lost, and I still enjoyed the book immensely even without reading the first two books-I will still be downloading them and giving them a read simply because I fell in love with Angel & Alex and desperately want to see how they got to where they are now. The chemistry between these two is intense and borderline obsessive, the sex scenes were incredible, the love overwhelming; all while gripping the edge of your seat waiting for the other shoe to drop. The underlying fear for Angel's safety was clear throughout the book, Alex's desperation to keep her safe was easily felt in everything he did, but the growth of these two as a couple was simply beautiful; the epilogue was perfect and left me with tears in my eyes-who knew such a tough, possessive, former manwhore could be so damn romantic? In the end, I loved everything about this book and for those who have read this series from the beginning will be thrilled at this amazing conclusion; as for me, it has turned into a need to see where it all started and I plan to do just that as soon as humanly possible. Kahlen Aymes has taken up residence on my One-Click-Addiction List with this hott ass couple and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

She’s guarded her heart for so long, but little by little, she has succumbed to Alex’s charm and wit, and now she can’t imagine her life without him. She’s an independent woman, so it’s been incredibly difficult for her to give up control to her alpha man, but she does, knowing that he has her best interests at heart, and with everything that Mark Swanson has done to threaten her and the ones she loves, she needs Alex more than ever, and he continues to come through in a big way.
The conclusion of Alex and Angel’s story is one filled with suspense, drama, and ardor. Through most of the story, I was on the edge of my seat wondering how this game of cat and mouse with Mark Swanson was going to play out. I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough because Aymes’ writing had me captivated and eager to find out how it all ends for the good doctor and her handsome protector. Not only is the suspense more intense, but the connection between Alex and Angel also transforms. There’s always been passion between them, but now that they have fully given themselves to each other, the sex scenes have an added nuance to them that clearly illustrate how far their relationship has come and how perfect they truly are for one another.
The entire After Dark series is an amazing journey not only for Alex and Angel but also for readers as we are there with them from beginning to end, experiencing all the ups and downs they do as they try to figure out where they fit into each other’s lives and what that means to a man who’s never allowed emotions to factor in and a woman who is driven by them. I hate to say goodbye to Alex and Angel, but I hope that a few supporting characters’ stories will be told, and we’ll get to catch up with them again.

WOW. Simply WOW. I don't think there are any other words with which I can properly express my opinion on this book.
I love the After Dark series and Kahlen Aymes so I was sure that Promises After Dark wouldn't disappoint. Well, It was everything I expected and so much more.
Alex and Angel are two amazing characters that I became to love during the first two books in the series. I enjoyed seeing how their relationship develops and how they learn to trust and depend on each other. In this third book, their story continues but before they can have their HEA they need to overcome another obstacle. Probably the most dangerous and deadly one of everything they experienced up till this moment. During the course of the story, Alex is shown in a little bit different light than in the previous books in the series. Though he is still the magnetic, sexy and slightly dominant man, he also shows his fierceness in protecting the people he cares about. He is ready to do whatever it takes to protect his family and the woman he loves without any thought of the cost or his well-being.
I also enjoyed a lot that the story wasn't completely focused on Alex and Angel and I definitely loved the snippets I got with Cole, Becca, Alex's family :) It was quite interesting to see from the outside how Becca and Cole's relationship develops and I really hope I will get to read their story at some point :) All that made the book better and even more interesting to me. And I have to say that I had a blast reading how Angel and Alex are with Jillian. It was like a scene from their future, showing what kind of parents they will be :).
Apart from everything, my favorite scene was the epilogue. It was so good to finally see Alex and Angel get their happy ending. And to be truthful I will really enjoy reading a snippet of their future. Once they have kids and everything :)

4.5 Amazing, angelic, Alex Avery stars!
Where do I start with this? Alex always start with Alex!! I flove him, he is possibly the most perfect book boyf ever and he smells good (I know that because I got an Alex Avery scented business card in Edinburgh). What's quite unusual with this story is that as well as being in love with the male character I actually fell hard for Angel too. She's smart, stubborn and strong, the girl we'd all love to be. They've both been on huge journeys as individuals to get them where they are in this book, what is great to see within this instalment is the way they grow as a couple. Promises was one of my most anticipated books of the year as I adored the previous two books, that meant the pressure was on Kahlen to give me a thrilling, intense and satisfying end to one of my favourite series of all time. Did she succeed? Most definitely! Promises was all I expected and then some.
We left Angel and Alex all loved up, finally breaking down their walls and accepting they were just meant to be together. Well we all know the course of true love never did run smooth and there is a massive bump in the road by the name of Swanson. Not satisfied with almost killing Angel once, he's back for more and Kahlen takes us on dramatic game of cat and mouse that leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat.
The strength and passion that we've seen from Alex throughout the series is tested to the max with his life and the lives of the people he cares about are on the line and he's determined to come out on top. Can he put an end to Swanson before it's too late? Will the chance he took with Angel all have been in vain? Is the heart that had never felt love before Angel gonna be trampled on and broken in two? One thing's for sure my heart was put through the wringer constantly! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and yet I wanted to savour every single moment.
Kahlen's writing keeps you hooked throughout, this is one hell of an emotional ride and one I didn't want to end. I'm not ready to let go of Alex yet, please don't make me! This is series is going down as not only one of the best I've read this year but one of the best I've ever read. The only problem is I'm not ready to let go of Alex yet!! Please write more Kahlen, how about Cole's story? :)
Where do I start with this? Alex always start with Alex!! I flove him, he is possibly the most perfect book boyf ever and he smells good (I know that because I got an Alex Avery scented business card in Edinburgh). What's quite unusual with this story is that as well as being in love with the male character I actually fell hard for Angel too. She's smart, stubborn and strong, the girl we'd all love to be. They've both been on huge journeys as individuals to get them where they are in this book, what is great to see within this instalment is the way they grow as a couple.
