3 'Romeo & Juliet' Stars

Taylor Hudson was born to a wealthy family and seemingly has everything a girl could ever want. But hidden beneath the material things, she is missing her family that never seems to have time for her. She just graduated high school and is ready to move to Harvard and get away from her family's name. But her life takes a turn when she meets her new handyman.

Levi grew up poor and had a tough time in life, so when the opportunity for riches comes, he takes it. He is hired by "The Boss" to be the inside man at the Hudson mansion and scope out the whereabouts of a safe. Levi is sure it will be an easy job and easy money, until he meets Taylor, the spoiled rich girl that he can't get out of his mind. Feelings get in the way of his objective and he'll have a tough and dangerous decision ahead of him.

This review is hard for me to write because there were aspects of the story that I liked, but there was also an equal amount of things I didn't like. They story itself was amazing and hooked my attention right from the start.
It was full of suspense and questions of 'what if' that had me gripping onto my Kindle tight. There were a lot of different ways that the book could have ended and it kept guessing and I really liked the mystery of it.

I loved the book quotes within the story, especially how Levi would quote poetry and Shakespeare while flirting with Taylor. He loved classic books and knew so many quotes from them, and it was really sexy. Especially when he finds the giant library in Taylor's house and totally geeks out over it - swoon!

I couldn't feel the connection between Taylor and Levi and their relationship just didn't seem real to me. Taylor kept saying how she couldn't wait to get out of town and go reinvent herself, but then she kept going to parties with the same people she said she wanted to get away from. I thought there would be some hidden depth to her, that I could like, but all I saw from her was a spoiled little girl that used guys.

Levi, despite his awesome use of quotes, was kind of blah. I knew about him, but just didn't feel like I knew him. We only got a glimpse of his past but I wanted more about how he grew up to understand him better. Levi was described in a hot way, but then wasn't hot, at least to me. I think I was expecting something completely different so then I was a little disappointed.

Overall, Perfect Betrayal was a good story and I liked the writing style. It kept my attention and didn't make me want to put it down at all. It was the characters that I couldn't fully enjoy, unfortunately, but they weren't so bad that I got too annoyed.

Taylor just graduated high school and can't wait to move across the country to go to college. She's beautiful, rich and popular. Levi is the new maintenance guy working at Taylor's house. Levi is planning a heist, to steal 15 million dollars from Taylor's family. There is an instant attraction between the two of them but even with his feelings for Taylor, Levi still plans to go through with the heist.

This book is really hard for me to review. On one hand, I really liked the writing - normally I'm not a fan of 3rd person but I enjoyed it in this book. On the other hand, I had some issues with the beginning of the story and I could not connect with the characters. It took a while for me to really feel invested in this story. I almost put this on my DNF pile because I really didn't like Taylor in the beginning. I liked Levi a little more than Taylor but didn't feel much chemistry between them until later in the book. I did end up enjoying the end of this story and was happy with the ending. Overall, I did like the idea of this book but wasn't crazy about the heroine.

Being born rich, Taylor Hudson had it all from money, beauty, and social status but behind the glass door lies a vulnerable young woman seeking the affection and love from her parents. In all honesty, she is a young woman who just wants to be loved and so when she meets Levi, he became somewhat a game to spice up her boring and lonesome life. Levi is the new handyman of the Hudson's mansion but his main objective is to pull off a fifteen million dollar heist. Levi's and his partners were hired to find a safe and steal from Taylor's father. But what Levi didn't expect was getting entangled with Taylor and crossing the lines of sexual desires. From the moment, Levi crossed the lines blurred by lust, sexual attraction, and desire, he knew he was playing with fire once Taylor discovers his deceit and betrayal. So how long can Levi keep up the facade of a handyman when his feelings for Taylor begins to get blurred with his objective of pulling off a heist?

#PerfectBetrayal_Season

Perfect Betrayal by Season Vining is a tale built on lust, sexual attraction and deceit. As Ms. Vining tried to blend the themes of lust and betrayal in the story-line, she highlights the facades that Levi and Taylor had to upheld since they both were guarded with their hearts. Growing up in an unloving home, Taylor projected her insecurities through being a spoiled rich brat. Overall this book, was both a hit and a miss. I liked the premise of the story-line of pulling off a heist and the idea of unexpected love but this book lacked the emotional connection between Taylor and Levi. I felt the characters were instantly in this insta-love aspect but it felt more like an insta-lust since their connection was primarily on a physical aspect. I just wanted more depth and growth from each of the characters. I wanted to know more of Levi's past and what made Taylor's parents to behave the way they did. And as for the ending, it was a bit blasé for my taste since I felt it was a bit rushed and Taylor forgave so easily from learning of the betrayal. But overall, I liked the book but didn't love it.

Is it love, lust, or loneliness that brought a blue collar thief and the spoiled daughter of the town’s wealthiest families together? Levi is masquerading as the new handyman in an effort to find the safe that holds millions of dollars in the Hudson mansion. Taylor is the seemingly shallow and self-centered teen beauty who dares to taunt Levi with her body, while letting him know how lofty her position is. Like opposites, they are attracted to each other in an animalistic and carnal way, but their relationship begins to change when they find a lost soul longing to be loved and needed in each other. How long can Levi cover his lies to keep Taylor’s love? Are either of them truly capable of love? Levi has long struggled with controlling his anger and Taylor has grown up in a world of plastic credit cards, plastic friends and no real idea of what the world is really like, she is privileged, he has nothing, she is his meal ticket…and the plot thickens…will pretty words spoken from the bards of the past be enough?

Season Vining’s Perfect Betrayal is a tale of need, desire and a budding relationship built on deceit. Her heroine is not very likable throughout most of the book, but Taylor slowly drops her little rich girl façade as she begins to see the world through the eyes of those who really live in it. Levi is a sympathetic anti-hero, but still, he clings to his charade, hiding what brought them together in the first place. Can Ms. Vining pull it all together and give these two a trusting and loving relationship? With a multi-layered plot, intense character interactions and the games people play, the twisted maze to the last page is a shocker!

:: 4.5 Stars for the Perfect Betrayal ::

WOW. I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one day! It was the perfect mix of love and betrayal. What really caught my attention (and kept it throughout the book) is the fact the love can conquer all. Money doesn’t always mean everything, and sometimes love can come about even in the strangest scenarios. The characters were also amazing in this book. Levi (possible new book bf) is the sexy con artist who lets lust take over his mind leading him to fall for a girl he never thought he could have (or even stand the sight of due to their financial differences). Taylor is the sassy 18 year old who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take it. While I can’t imagine a lot of girls being like her she was a breath of fresh air- she’s the ultimate ALPHA female. Finally, the book has some drama. The parents, the heist, the TWIST with the office manager. AHHH. You have to read it to see what I am talking about. It’s well worth it.

21-year old Levi Russo is the new Head of Maintenance at the Hudson mansion. But his new job is only a cover: in fact, he's mapping out the whole house in search of a safe containing over $15m. When his mission turns out successful, he'll be able to divvy up the money with his Boss and his 2 friends and partners, and make a run for it.

But he never expected Taylor Hudson to be a major distraction from the task at hand. The 18-year-old is spending summer at her parents' mansion and quietly counting down the days until she finally joins Harvard. She has her eyes on the hot tattooed maintenance guy and can't wait to seduce him. But what if this challenge turns to much more than she thought?

What I loved about this book:

Not much, unfortunately...

What I felt needed improvement:

The character's backstory
The chemistry between the characters
The whole storyline and the "happy ending" which were unrealistic

This is my 3rd book from Season Vining, who is a fan of writing about bad boys and characters of two completely opposite words falling in love. Unfortunately, this book didn't really do it for me.

While I enjoyed the storyline around the actual heist (and finding out exactly why it took place and who ordered it during the last 10% of the book), the whole main focus of the story - meaning the story between the 2 main characters - felt completely off.

I never really felt the chemistry between the characters, and it seemed all their relationship was based on lust: they hardly spend any time together (except for doing the deed) before they confess their undying love. I liked the fact that their story began with a huge sexual attraction that Levi was unwilling to give in to, but the transition that came with the moment his resolve finally snapped wasn't all that spectacular.

By the way, I'd like to point out to the author that this book is completely irresponsible when it comes to protected sex. Although I did find one tiny little mention of a condom at their - hmmm what was it? - maybe at their 10th sexual encounter. Yup, how about the last times, and how about the characters not caring about it one bit or at least mentioning it?

What's more, I couldn't connect with Taylor at all. She's your average popular high school rich girl who somehow made it into Harvard, and who is so jaded that she's idly fooling around with a guy she doesn't even love, but who is madly in love with her. Her chasing Levi was nothing but another challenge, and a welcome distraction to her summer boredom - until, of course, it became more. That's just how shallow she came across in the book.

I didn't understand how Levi, someone who had been raised by an honest and hard-working single-father, had become such a sweetheart and romantic person who still landed "on the bad side". It just didn't fit the general description the author gave of him, and it would have warranted more explanation on how Levi got himself into that kind of trouble along with two of his friends. I mean the guy is 21 and planning a huge heist with 2 of his friends, using high-tech equipment and acting like it's no big deal and like they'd done this a thousand times. Completely unrealistic.

I also would have like to know why Levi was so discriminating against Taylor, or rather: against rich people. His hatred for them (and consequently: her) is evident throughout the book and doesn't really suit him, not is it founded.

Last but not least, I feel the author could have given the characters a little bit more to talk about than their mommy/daddy issues and Shakespeare quotes.

And really, don't get me started on the ending of the book. For one, there were no consequences for Levi's actions: he never regretted going through with the heist; no one went after him although he was suspect #1; and there was certainly no heartbreak from Taylor over finding out that he "betrayed her". And then, the way the whole story works out for the couple is just plain sappy and unrealistic, and just the prime example of two people wasting away their future.

So in summary, I really wasn't wooed by this read as it is in dire need of a reality check. As you can tell, there are also no quotes from this book in this review, which is a pity because nothing struck me enough to deserve a highlight...

Taylor seems like the typical spoiled little rich girl. She is the girl that all girls strive to be and all guys want to sleep with. But she doesn't seem to enjoy being that person. She doesn't want to date who everyone thinks she should date, she doesn't want to be seen and not heard by her parents and she doesn't want to fall for the maintenance guy. Sometimes things aren't as they seem but sometimes they are.

I've not had the pleasure of reading anything by Season Vining before and I wasn't sure what exactly I should expect when I picked this one up. I'm just going to jump right in here ... let me tell you ... Vining can write some interesting characters. Taylor. Dear, sweet, Taylor. I was about 15% through the book and I realized that this girl was batshit crazy at times. Then I got a little further into the book and holy hell ... we were one boiled bunny away from Taylor being a stalker. When I first read this, I thought that her behavior was extreme when it came to Levi. But then I remembered what it was like when I was that age and I was batshit crazy then also. All girls just need to go through that age, apparently. Anyhow, the character was written really well ... I didn't really know whether to like or hate Taylor or feel sorry for her or proud of her ... I was definitely conflicted throughout most of the book. I liked being kept on my toes. And the same thing happened with Levi ... he was a nicely flawed character that I enjoyed reading about.

That being said ... I didn't really have any strong feelings about this book at all. It was just ... okay. I thought that it was a bit boring at times when the story lagged along and I found myself skipping paragraphs just to get to something exciting. Ugh. I hate saying that but that's how it was. And the poetry ... dear sweet baby Jesus ... the poetry. In case you can't tell, I don't really care for poetry and there was a lot of it. I'm just not a deep enough of a person for poetry to resonate with me and so I didn't connect with that part of the book AT ALL.

I might pick up another book by Vining in the future, this one wasn't bad ... I just found it to be super slow. Now on to the next read!

Perfect Betrayal was an OK read.

After reading Held Against You, which I LOVED I was sooo looking forward to reading Perfect Betrayal so it makes me sad that I didn't get the same enjoyment from this book.
I struggled to get into it. The storyline was OK but I just didn't feel the love/connection between Taylor and Levi. This left me feeling disconnected with the story and thus affected my overall enjoyment.

I enjoy Season Vining's writing and I'm looking forward to her next book.

I love Season Vining's writing, and if you haven't indulged in it yet, this book is a perfect start. Levi and Taylor are stinking hot together and I love the added dynamic of the the twisting plot. The sex scenes are STEAMY and the action doesn't stop. LOVE the banter between the friends.

The inside man. The spoiled rich girl. A love/hate relationship with sparks flying left, right and center. Perfect Betrayal was a rollicking good time, complete with an edge-of-your-seat heist, a seduction that neither party expected to become more, and an ending that’ll make you smile…

Levi knows what it’s like to grow up with no money and very little in the way of prospects, while Taylor knows what it’s like to have the world at her fingertips, but not what it’s like to be loved by her distant parents.

When Levi’s path crosses with Taylor’s on a job that could net him his share of fifteen million dollars, he sees nothing but a poor little rich girl, who always gets what she wants. Except she turns out to be so much more.

With the money on the line, and a woman that makes him dream of a better life within his reach, Levi has to choose…give up the job, or give up the girl?

I knew I had to read this book after thoroughly enjoying Season Vining’s Held Against You, and I am really glad I picked Perfect Betrayal up. It was well-written, and an exceptionally fun way to pass a few hours. I wasn’t sure early on about these characters—I didn’t think I’d grow to like them, particularly the somewhat snobby Taylor—but I shouldn’t have doubted Ms. Vining’s ability to make me care. Without even realizing what was happening, I kind of fell for them. Taylor had far more depth that gave her credit for, which both Levi and I discovered as we spent more time with her and, in my case, in her head. And Levi was interesting, his motivation not always the most sound, but his loyalty to his friends and to the job admirable, despite the illegal nature of it.

Said job, which brings Taylor and Levi together (and threatens to tear them apart) was very well handled. There was mystery, there was intrigue and it read like some of my favorite heist movies. Ms. Vining had me guessing as to what would happen next, who was involved, and the identity of some of these characters that are on the peripheral, but are vital to the story. And yet, I was never right. I didn’t get it, which made the reveal all the more rewarding.

Rewarding, too, is how I would describe the ending of Perfect Betrayal. The romance between Taylor and Levi may have moved quickly from hate to love, possibly too quickly given their ages and the circumstances, but I won’t lie and say I wasn’t beyond happy with how this book closed out. Like the rest of Perfect Betrayal, it was charming, and a great pay-off for someone who read this book cover-to-cover in one sitting. ~ Beth, 4 stars

2 maybe 2,5 Stars!

I requested this as an ARC because the blurb sounded good and the cover was cute.

This could have been a winner, really, I get what the author tried to tell us with this book. But the implementation was not successful, I mean not in my opinion.
I didn’t feel anything for Taylor and Levi, there was no chemistry, no lust, no tension. The rich girl and poor boy cliché didn’t work the way it could have. Taylors BFF Reese was an annoying bitch, who whored around with married (older) men. From the beginning till 90% of the book its always the same back and forth of Taylor and Levi. And in the last 10% we got our plot and the HEA.

So we have Taylor Hudson here. One of the most popular girls in her school, blond, blue eyes, a body to die for.
She just graduated from high school and stays the summer at home before she leaves for Harvard in the fall.

She has a very complicated relationship to her parents. You can say that her parent don’t give a shit about her.
Her mother is always traveling with the current boyfriend and her father is always at work or busy with his current secretary. So Taylor is a very angry girl, raised by her Nanny Suzanna, that still lives with the family.

And we have Levi Russo, tall, good looking, tattoos, dark hair and eyes. He grew up at the wrong side of the city but still in a loving home. His mother died when he was a kid cause of cancer. His father raised him after that alone, taught him how to play guitar and showed him the magic of poetry. His father died a year ago in a car accented.

After Levi’s uncle Zach retires as a maintenance guy at the Hudson mansion, Levi takes over the job. But Levi has another purpose to be at the Hudson mansion. His actual job is to scope out the mansion to find the save. Rumor is that the save contains 15 million Dollars.

During his time at the mansion he searches room after room for the save. Meanwhile Taylor takes every chance to seduce him. At first Levi has his hormones under control and resist Taylor, but he is just a guy gives in.

At first it is just sex for both of them, but they soon start to fall in love with each other.

Than the robbery mission took its place, Taylor caught Levi and his team, the robbery was unrealistic and everything that happened after.

The plot was week, I couldn’t care less about it.

I liked the ending, thought and not only because the book ended :) The last chapter was sweet. But it wasn’t enough for me to like the book.

I received a complimentary book from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started reading this book, I wanted to close it and stop reading.. I absolutely did not like the main characters. Fortunately, since I had promised to review it, I continued anyway. I was very happy that I didn't because I found that I could not put the book down.

Taylor Hudson was a rich, angry twelfth grader. She spent loads of money, slept around, constantly cursed and followed no rules. She was nasty to everyone including her parents. She was definitely not a sympathetic character, and I could not be sympathetic toward her character.

Levi is a gorgeous young man who had just started working in Taylor’s mansion. She is attracted to him and tries to seduce him. Even though he is also attracted to her, he ignores her, pushes her away and acts like a jerk because he cannot allow himself to be fired. We then find out that Levi is the inside man for a heist to steal 15 million dollars from Taylor's father. I then realized that Levi was another character that I did not care about.

However, as I kept on reading, I totally changed my attitude about Taylor and Levi. I began to understand Taylor and why she acted as she did. At that point I felt sorry for her and wanted her to find her happy ending.

As for Levi, I fell in love with him at the same time Taylor did. Even though Levi had tattoos and was very poor, he was also a tender, sweat and caring man. Added to that is the fact that Taylor loved poetry and could spout lines from any poem as well as he could talk. At that point I began rooting for Taylor and Levi.

Unfortunately, their love was very difficult. Levi felt guilty because he was secretly planning to steal money from Taylor’s father. Taylor, on the other hand, knew her father would never allow her to date a poor nobody like Levi. So they had to secretly meet with each other and began to compare themselves to Romeo and Juliet.

I cannot reveal anything else without ruining the story. All I can say is that the rest of the story is one gripping surprise after another. In fact, this book so captivated me that I was unable to put it down until I finished. I fell in love with this couple especially Levi.

I highly recommend this book. It is exciting with lots of great twists. Also,The author kept me in suspense until the very end. I enjoyed this book so much that I have already bought several other books written by Season Vining, and I cannot wait to read them

It's no secret that I have enjoyed both of Season's previous books immensely. There is something about her story telling that pulls me in from the very first page and never lets go. Her books always leave me with a book hangover and, Perfect Betrayal is no exception.

One thing to note about Season's writing; she slowly peals away the layers of her characters and plot. I am always on the edge of my seat anxiously waiting for a twist, to discover a deeper connection to the characters or find some secret hidden agenda because we never know everything up front. What you see is not what you get -- you must pay attention and hold on until the ride is over.

Taylor was a hard character to crack. She comes off as a rude snob that looks down her nose at everyone, but in reality, there is so much more to her than that. She is smart & witty, with an attitude that rivals my own. Yet behind that wall is a sad, vulnerable girl who wants love, devotion and to find her place in a messed up world she grew up in. While I didn't always agree with her tactics, she is relentless in her pursuit of Levi. I have deep admiration for women who go after what they want.

Levi comes off as a hard ass with a chip on his shoulder. And yes, you could say that he is but again, layers. His lack of money growing up fueled his agenda for the heist. His attraction to Taylor is obviously undeniable and as he starts to let her in and tear down his walls, he finds that there may be more to her than he initially thought.

While at first glance, these two couldn't be more opposite. The deeper they connect and the more they open up to each other, shows just how much they are perfect for each other. Their chemistry is amazing (which is expected!) and I loved the little things they did together. Of course, there are many things in their way and many personal demons to fight too. But the journey is half the fun.

I absolutely love how the books ends. I wont go into details, because spoilers.

Like her two previous novels, Perfect Betrayal is an amazing story -- full of drama, suspense and a sexy, sweet romance. I highly recommend it!

This story begins with Levi posing as a maintenance man to gain access to the exclusive Hudson residence. He and his crew know that Mr. Hudson keeps millions of dollars in cash in that house, they just have to find it. With the house mostly empty for the summer, Levi is confident he can get in and out with no complications...that is until he sees Taylor, the Hudson's daughter.

Taylor is spending the summer at home before going of to Harvard to start her new life. She just wants to have fun, and a tumble with the new hot maintenance guy seems like just what the doctor ordered only Taylor never anticipated what she would come to feel in a short amount of time for Levi.

When it comes time for the heist at last and the truth comes out, what will become of their blooming relationship?

I hoped this book would be so much better than it ended up being. First, what I liked...Levi and his entire crew. Even though they are not developed all that well as characters, at least not until toward the end, you can't help but root for them to win in the end. The storyline was a little different, not just a bunch of kids looking to get rich quick. The identity of "the boss" kept me guessing throughout.

And then what I did not like...Taylor. She got on my last nerve from the start and I never really warmed to her to be honest. This is the first time in a long time that my dislike for a character made it difficult for me to read it. She is nothing more than a spoiled rich girl and not much was written about her that made me change my opinion of her.

My thoughts:

POV 3rd person from Taylor and Levi
Quick hook or slow starter? 3 (it dragged and I wasn't really hooked until about the 60% mark)
Character development: 3
Level of Romance between characters: 3
Passion/Heat level: 3
Angst/Heartbreak: 3 (there is angst toward the end but by then, I didn't really care what Taylor was feeling)
Cliffhanger?: Nope, there is a HEA in the end.

Overall, it just wasn't for me. I could never get over my dislike for Taylor which made it a difficult read in the end.

Whoa! Vining definitely turned-up the heat in her third novel, The Perfect Betrayal. If her first book was G rated, get ready for restricted admission!

I’ve said this a thousand times: Any book that quotes one of Shakespeare’s golden three (McBeth, Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Tempest) in the first ten pages to foreshadow the book’s theme has my attention. Throw in spontaneous quotes from one of my main men, Whitman or Emerson, and I have high expectations.

Taylor and the Hudson family name have enough money and prestige to buy all things materialistic, but lack love as an asset in their investment portfolio. Taylor plays the part of spoiled, rich girl well and deflects from the emotional burn left by her “family.” Her avoidance and daddy issues are justifiable, but her animalistic lust for the
estate’s maintenance guy, Levi, is not.

From the wrong side of the tracks, Levi has always lived the straight path. But, the huge chip on his shoulder for the extremely wealthy fuels enough resentment to lead him from occasional misdemeanor to felony status. He is the inside man for a huge heist, but quickly finds himself the “inside man” of different sorts with the potential to ruin his criminal career before it even starts, as well as patch that huge chip on his shoulder for persons with padded bank accounts.

What I loved about this book was the classic and obvious inspirations mixed - Clueless, Shakespeare and, possibly, the Thomas Crown Affair... if broadcast on primetime after dark. Plus, Vining remains true to her cunning writing style with a major twist at the end.

Forgive my brevity, but I must go to bed and convince my man to bring his tool belt.

Grrrrrr....I am so frustrated right now....

I wanted to love this book, I swear I did. The premise sounded awesome and I loved the cover, however I just couldn't get into the story inside. Told in third person (which I hate), there is a real disconnect with the characters. They are extremely flat and their personalities are all over the place. The main female, Taylor, and her BFF Reece are obviously Cher and Dionne from Clueless just with different names. They are your stereotypical shallow, vain, and self-centered rich girls. C'mon, they go to the mall and ridicule what people are wearing for fun?? Is that how an honor student who is headed to Harvard acts??

Levi is the standard misunderstood bad-boy from the wrong side of the tracks. He grew up poor and makes a living as a criminal, yet deep down inside he is a gifted musician who loves classic literature.

Oh wait, both Levi and Taylor love classic literature. Because despite their shallow, one-dimensional-ness, they both quote Shakespeare and Whitman throughout the book. Okay...

Looking beyond all that, there is absolutely zero chemistry between them. They meet, they each think the other one is hot, she pursues him relentlessly until he gives in, and then they fuck.

And the covert secret mission that Levi is on to steal fifteen million dollars from Taylor's father completely lacks plot development and suspense.

DNF - 42%

ERIN'S REVIEW
4 STARS

This story started a little slow, but by Chapter 3 I was hooked. The characters couldn’t be more different. Levi didn’t grow up with money growing on trees, but he was loved. Taylor has access to anything she could possibly want, except the affection of her parents. The age difference put me off to start with, but Taylor is surprisingly mature for her age when you get underneath the spoiled brat that she shows everyone. Levi does his best to stay away from Taylor, but some things are just meant to be. He can’t fight the growing attraction forever. Taylor falls fast and lets Levi see a side that she shows nobody else. Secrets and lies come to light and nothing will be the same. That twist came out of nowhere and left me with my mouth hanging open wondering what just happened. Some of the scenes in this book will have you fanning yourself and needing a drool bucket. Just be prepared beforehand.

* I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I really wanted to like this book and to a certain extent -- I did. However, there were some pacing, development issues that took this from potentially being a really good story to a just okay story.

The story centers around Levi and Taylor -- two people who couldn't be anymore different. Taylor is the rich spoiled brat often ignored by her parents, while Levi is the "bad boy" from the other side of the tracks who's working at Taylor's hoping to get information on a supposed cache of money in Taylor's house.

There were a lot of positives in the story -- Levi, his crew, the plot twist at the end, but those didn't outweigh the bad -- pacing, no real character development and I found myself not caring for Taylor and not seeing what Levi saw in her.

Overall, it was a decent story, but left something to be desired for me.

Taylor was hard to like at first. She came off as a spoiled, rich brat with a "poor me" mentality. She was ignored by her family and lonely except for a few close friends. So she consoles herself with her money. I liked her more later when she started to show some vulnerability and a little more personality.
Levi plays guitar and recites poetry. He can debate Romeo and Juliet and fix just about anything. So pretty much the perfect guy. But he's working as a maintenance man in order to rob the house.
At first the two are attracted to one another but they don't seem to have much beyond that. I liked when they let down their walls a little and got to see one another outside of the house. There are also many references to Romeo and Juliet. If you liked Shakespeare's play, I think you'll enjoy this. There are some great twists toward the end that I didn't see coming.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

Why did I decide to turn the pages? It just looked really really good.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: And that might be why I was slightly disappointed.

I had such high expectations and the characters didn't quite click for me. I actually disliked the characters for most of the story. Taylor was kind of a spoiled brat that I really didn't like. Her change of character didn't seem realistic for me.

The emotions felt kind of forced and so did the conclusion. It was just an average read that I didn't really enjoy as much as I wanted to.

However, having said that the novel wasn't terrible. It was a fun, fast paced read. The plot was intriguing and that's what carried the story for me.

The Characters: Were flat for me. I didn't feel like the changes in them were warranted.

Major Strengths: Intriguing plot line.

Major Weaknesses: Flat characters and forced chances in the plot.

So why 3 stars? I'd almost give it a 2.5, but I think I found enough redeeming qualities to give it a 3.

Warnings/Side-notes: For 17+.

The Wrap-up: It was an intriguing plot line but the novel fell slightly flat for me.

This is a story of Taylor, the rich girl, and Levi, the poor maintenance man. Levi starts working in Taylor's house to find a safe to steal 20 million dollars from her dad. Nadine, which is Taylor's fathers secretary/ niece/ Levi's BOSS, puts Levi in the house to get close to Taylor. He ends up hooking up with Taylor and falling in love. Although they did find the safe and get the money, he still went to Italy while she went to school. Lastly, she ends up going to Italy to find Levi and they are happy there.

I thought this book was fantastic! I do not normally read romance but was recommended this by a friend. The writer manages to weave an interesting tale amidst all the romance. I honestly should have seen the twist but honestly it caught me completely by surprise. I found myself laughing out loud at the character Suzanne. She reminded me of my mother in law, who also says crazy things.

I know I say this a lot, but I REALLY did not expect like this book so much. But I did. I really did. So... a little back story. I know I've talked about this (a lot) too, but I've come to find out that a huge number of New Adult book follow a formula these days - you know - two ridiculously hot main characters (plus points if the guy is all tattooed and just screams bad boy), lots and lots of sex, off-the-charts chemistry... and an earth-shattering secret that will pull them apart (for a while). I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. And sometimes, the predictability of it all gets boring. REALLY boring. Never mind that the writing is sharp or the characters intriguing - sometimes you just want MORE from the story, you know? Well, actually, the main reason why I immediately give Perfect Betrayal a shot is because there seems to be a REAL plot - a real story - in this one, and praise the heavens, there actually IS!

Our main character, Levi, is in on a con to rob one of the wealthiest man in town of fifteen million dollars, and to do just that, he needs to work on the inside. He gets a job working maintainance for the Hudsons, and the (inside) job seemed simple enough - do recon, figure out where the safe is, tell The Boss where it is, get the money, and get out. He however never counted on Taylor Hudson to pose a distraction from what he's really trying to do inside the house. Off the bat, the attraction is palpable between Levi and Taylor. They do eventually give in to it... but they never expected feelings to come into play.

I really liked the slow burn of the whole 'will we? or won't we?' between Levi and Taylor. It was never love at first sight, but little by little, they stop fighting the attraction. While it wasn't long (but longer than two chapters, thank you very much) before they hook up, it took them longer to willingly start to get to know each other... and for there to be something more. Their relationship was a careful mixture of subtle and strong - the physical attraction was always apparent, always there, but the little things - the need to see each other, the need to always be with each other, took a while to play out. For me, this was what made what is going on between Levi and Taylor believable, and part of what had me hooked to the story.

As I've mentioned earlier, Taylor is introduced as your quintessential I-have-it-all rich girl, and she wasn't necessarily the most likeable of characters. I did like that she never pretended to be someone she wasn't though - she had people she liked, and she had people she couldn't care less about. She wasn't going to pretend otherwise. She wasn't your perfect, innocent girl - she has her own problems and issues, and she made it clear countless times that she will do all that she can to get what she wants. I did like that her character development had more to do with her own realizations than with Levi. While it was Levi who made her look at life differently, Taylor was the one who reconstructed herself - the one who put together a Taylor that she herself could wholeheartedly get behind.

From the first page, I was with Levi all the way. Never mind that he's technically about to commit a a crime; never mind that pursuing a relationship with the daughter of the man he's going to rob blind is just a disaster waiting to happen. Most of all... never mind that while he does end up feeling guilty about the heist, it has everything to do with how it will affect Taylor and nothing about the crime itself. There was never any meticulous exploration of Levi's past - we get a little stories here and there about his mother and father, and we gather enough to know that he just wants to be something... more. That's what he'll use the money for. I can't quite explain why (and I won't even try) I ended up liking Levi - all I know is that I want him to succeed. Something about him just tugged at my heartstrings, and that was it for me.

As I've mentioned earlier, I like that Perfect Betrayal has more of a plot in it than just Levi and Taylor's love story. We have the heist and everything that comes with it in every nook and cranny of the story - the careful planning, the fear that everything will all come crashing down over all their heads, the disappointment when not everything goes their way, and of course, the doubts. We were also made privy to so many relationships other than Levi and Taylor's - amongst others, there was the relationship between Taylor and Suzanne, the woman who was practically a mother to Taylor, and the relationship between Levi, Crystal, and Kyle - childhood friends and now (literally) partners-in-crime. I like how every aspect of the story fit so perfectly well with each other - there was no aspect that was glossed over.

I don't read that many New Adult books anymore, but I'm glad I gave this one a shot. I liked how Perfect Betrayal was subtle in some aspects of its storytelling, and how it made you read between the lines. While I do feel that the ending was a little rushed, it made me smile and feel a little wistful... and at the end of it all, satistfied.

Rate: 1.5

I received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It took me three weeks to finish Perfect Betrayal. To some, this may seem like a little or short amount of time (just chock it up to life getting in the way). To others, it may seem like a long time (like what was I doing this whole time). For me, three weeks raises the question: why did I keep trying? This means that I've had time to read other books, live life, and binge watch movies on Netflix and yet I still couldn't finish this book. This book should have been a DNF, but I didn't want to DNF it. I don't want to become a serial DNF'er. The problem is Perfect Betrayal didn't give me a reason to want to pick it up and read it. It practically encouraged me to do other things.

Anyway, let me stop making excuses for why it took me so long to finish reading Perfect Betrayal and review it.

What I Liked About Perfect Betrayal
Character development (sort of): Throughout most of the story, Taylor is simply a rich girl with absentee parents who complains about how fake her life is and how shallow her friends are, but does nothing to rectify it. Most of the story is Taylor hanging out with her fake, shallow friends and trying to seduce Levi. However, towards the end, Taylor shows some improvement when she helps a girl increase her reading level. Or maybe that's not Taylor showing development; maybe I'm biased. I've done a few programs similar to the one Taylor does in the book so I commend anyone who takes the time to help someone whether it's reading or something else. So maybe Taylor improved as a person or maybe I'm just trying to find a redeeming quality in the book.

What I Didn’t Like About Perfect Betrayal
Romance: No, I’m not going to rant about a love triangle/V. And I’m not going to complain about insta-love. I’m going to talk about the next worst best thing: lust that’s labeled as love/ lust that “turns into” love. Part of what made this story so hard to read was that there was no real connection between Levi and Taylor. In the beginning, Levi was just a conquest to Taylor and Taylor was just an obstacle to Levi. They had no similarities and never talked to each other about something meaningful to establish a connection. However, they did share mutual attraction. So eventually they stopped resisting each other and had sex (though the first time Levi and Taylor had sex was the strangest sex scene I’ve ever read), which turned into having more sex and in the midst of all that screwing Levi and Taylor “fall in love” with each other. At that point, I really wanted to go into the book and ask them what they “loved” about the person because I knew I wasn’t going to get a decent answer. Any answer would have been so generic that I could have found a replacement partner for them. Anyway before I go on an unnecessary rant-y tangent, I’ll just say this: I don’t see how Levi and Taylor came to love each other when they only acknowledged shallow parts of the other person. Levi loved Taylor’s blonde hair and blue eyes (Really? What a cliche.) and Taylor loved Levi’s sleeve of tattoos and ability to recite poetry (If you’re thinking bad boy stereotype, then you’re right). The pair didn’t have any connection solidifying their love for one another.

Poetry: Levi is the stereotypical bad boy with a sensitive side and he conveys his sensitivity with poetry so I expected some poetry in the book. However, there were times when it seemed like Vining was using poetry as a crutch to express emotions she wasn’t sure how to describe. I get that Levi recites poetry, but is that the only thing he thinks about all the time? Sometimes I would have preferred Levi just thinking “Oh, I’d love to tap that” (in other words of course) instead of reading lines of poetry about jiggling stuff and touching each other. Let’s not make this story longer than it needs to be.

All in all, Perfect Betrayal isn’t terrible- I’ve definitely read worse- but I didn’t like it either. There just wasn’t any substantial chemistry between Levi and Taylor to justify their love and there weren't any redeeming qualities in the characters either. Definitely a lot of sex though if you like reading books like that.

WOW. Where do I begin to explain how much I enjoyed reading this book! I absolutely loved the fact that it was the perfect combination of betrayal, lust, and love. In spite of all the drama and conflicts this book is a true example that love can conquer all. And even though money is an important part of life, it doesn’t mean anything at the end if you aren’t truly happy. The characters in this book were truly amazing. Levi Russo is a sexy 21-year old con artist who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Until recently, he has always earned an honest living working hard. But things begin to change when an opportunity presents itself that is too good to pass by. His two best friends and a mysterious “Boss” come up with an idea to steal fifteen million dollars from on of the wealthiest men in town. This is where things get interesting as Levi takes the role of Head of Maintenance at the Hudson mansion. This new job is a cover that will allow Levi to map out the house and search for the safe containing the money. Their plan is to divide the money amongst themselves and make a run for it.

However, things are never as easy as they seem and the plan has a huge distraction named Taylor. Taylor Hudson is the 18-year old daughter who is rich, spoiled, and sassy. Taylor was raised by her nanny Suzanne due to her fathers’ busy work schedule and her mothers’ traveling. Taylor knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take any prisoners. She is currently spending the summer at her parents’ mansion counting down the days to her departure to college (Harvard) to be exact. It doesn’t take long before she has her eyes on the tattooed maintenance guy and she can’t wait to get her hands on him. She wants to seduce him and make him hers!! But Levi is unwilling to give into a relationship and it takes a great deal of effort before things begin to get steamy between these two. The chemistry and lust is bursting between these two beautiful characters and I loved the way Season Vining was able to make their love story a true representation of no boundaries between LOVE.. Even though all odds are against them it doesn’t take long before a passionate, sexy, love affair comes into reality. Without giving too much away of this beautiful love story, all I can say is make sure to read this book to it’s entirely. The end is full of twists and turns that will make you want to continue to read and ignore everything. I found myself trying so desperately to avoid any distractions that wouldn’t allow me to get the full picture of this wonderful read. Trust me when I say once you start you can’t stop!!!

Thoughts:

I received this book as an ARC via Netgalley and I am so happy I did. The storyline was sexy and reminded me of the move Ocean’s Elven as the characters go about scheming and organizing their heist on the money. Even though this is my very first Ms. Vining read, I absolutely adored the writing and the story line. The characters were believable and the chemistry between them was very sexy and inviting. I liked how Levi and Taylor were always going at each other from the very beginning and even though Levi tries to fight it, he eventually gives in to his passion. Overall I really enjoyed this read and would recommend it as a fun, sexy read full of passion and desire. I give this read 3.5 owls.

SEASON VINING is an author, a designer, a philanthropist, a bookworm, a cook, inked, and a night owl. She loves John Hughes films, tattooed boys, and celebrating anniversaries of her 29th birthday. She lives in Louisiana, where she likes to spend time with her corgi, Chap. Season is a graphic designer by trade and adores all form of art. She's a fan of live music, vintage cars, and people who know the difference between their, there, and they're.

ARC received from St Martin's Press via Netgalley for an honest review.

I have adored the previous books I have read by Ms Vining, and while I liked Perfect Betrayal, I didn't love it like I have her other books.

I am not saying that this is not a good book. I liked the story, and I liked the male MC Levi, but there was just something about the female MC Taylor that I just couldn't connect with. It's hard to put my finger on what it was though. I have been thinking about it for a couple of days, but still... nope. There was just nothing outstanding about her to me (but this could just be me!)

The story is not a new one - poor little rich girl meets guy from wrong side of the tracks, fall in love against the wishes of family and friends etc etc. Though the con-job storyline did add to the story, and we met some great and not so great secondary character.

Taylor's friend Reece - every time she was on the page, I could hear Cher from Clueless in my head say "Ugh! As If!". I just did not like her - at all! She was just the whorish girl who for most of the story I felt added nothing.

There was a reveal at the end of the story that had me thinking - oh wow, that was unexpected (which is good, I hate it when I can pick the reason/the villain way in advance).

I felt that we needed to know more about Taylor's parents - why they were why they were and did what they did - or were they really just as horrible as they were for no reason?

I loved Levi's love of the written word, the way he quoted poetry and literature. This added an extra dimension to him.

So while Perfect Betrayal did not really do it for me, I will definitely be picking up any of her future works.

Perfect Betrayal was a story that took me a couple of chapters to warm up to as it starts out fairly slow as we’re introduced to the players and the plot. As it begins we’re introduced to our slightly unlikable lead female protagonist, Taylor. Taylor is your quintessential poor little rich girl when we first start out, she is obnoxious, entitled and just a little bit narcissistic but as the story unfurls and circumstances alter and shift so too does Taylor’s perspective on life and indeed herself, she matures, is quicker to accept her faults and ultimately apologise for them but she still manages to retain that sassy kick-ass ‘I don’t need anyone’ attitude and slowly transforms from an insipid privileged brat into an independent and incredibly layered character. What brings about her character’s progression is the introduction of the maintenance guy around her family mansion, Levi. Holding a grudge against the world and primarily the upper echelons of society Levi and his friends become embroiled in a plot that will ultimately change the course of his life. Levi is a remarkable character, his transformation is a lot more subtle than Taylor’s, when we first meet him he is cocksure of himself, he knows what he wants and how he’s going to achieve it but what throws the proverbial spanner in the works is recently graduated Taylor, a girl with beauty, intelligence and just enough sadness and hurt beneath the surface that Levi is instantly intrigued.

‘He unclasped her bra and pulled it from her body. Levi’s lips and hands slid over every inch, giving equal attention to all of her anatomy. He kissed Taylor’s neck, her jaw, her chin, and finally her lips-lips that through all their smiles and frowns sometimes hateful words had always been asking him to stay.’

Season has written one hell of a book and I don’t say that lightly. It may have taken a chapter or two to get in to it but once it starts rolling, it gains momentum and blossoms into a fantastic edge of your seat suspense story with quite frankly one of the hottest, most spectacular sex scenes I have ever read about and a fantastic twist in the plot that admittedly I never saw coming. As well as all of that it has a desperately swoon-worthy romantic ending, just perfection. It’s a terrific tale of betrayal, lust, family relationships not necessarily established through blood and of course forgiveness and love. It’s important to note the other great love story in Perfect Betrayal, that of Taylor and Suzanne her ‘nanny’, it was emotional and superbly written especially when taken in conjunction with the behaviour of Taylor’s actual family. This is definitely a book that you’re going to want to pick up in the near future.

I know when I pick up a book written by Season Vining it's going to be good. Her writing is consistent and always engaging. She manages to infuse intensity into words that evoke lasting emotion. I know I'm going to shed at least a few tears while reading but I'm alright with that. It just means I connected with the characters and story.

Perfect Betrayal is the story of Taylor and Levi. They're an unlikely couple. Taylor is used to getting what she wants except from her parents and Levi didn't have much growing up but had a lot of love. The two however have this attraction to each other that defies logic and understanding. Taylor knows she's leaving at the end of summer and Levi has an agenda he can't risk jeopardizing. The two of them had this chemistry that just wouldn't quit. It was like any time the two of them were within ten feet of each other I was eagerly watching to see if they'd rip each other's clothes off.

It was really something watching them go back and forth. Both were determined to get what they wanted even if the one chink in Levi's plan was his attraction to Taylor. I liked how once they got past their words to one another they were able to see who they really were, even if they weren't able to vocalize it. The two of them really connected when it came to their bodies but they found it so difficult to connect outside of that. I didn't like when they hurt each other using words, especially when they did it knowingly to protect themselves. For someone who liked control I admired how often Taylor put herself out there. She had just as much as Levi to lose but she was willing to follow her heart and feelings.

This book is about more than just the games Taylor and Levi play with each other. There are many games at play here. It seemed like almost everyone had an agenda or two. The story has some crazy twists. I was able to predict a few, but for the most part all of my guesses were wrong. I think I was surprised by how much. Another surprise was how sensitive I was to Taylor's emotional pain. I really did not like her parents and there were moments when I didn't like Taylor and Levi's friends. I did love all of the poetry in this book. It made me realize what I've been missing out on.

If you're looking for something new and exciting to read, I'd definitely recommend this book. It had it all, a hot guy and girl, lots of drama, some action, and some mystery and suspense too. It all combines into a memorable page turner.
