synopsis: ruthie and carter are continuing their relationship, but ruthie is scared what her family will think when they meet her 9-years-younger boyfriend, so she asks carter home for christmas just as a friend. the only problem is that their relationship is heavily based on sex, and with no one knowing about their relationship, they put a moratorium on sex. ruthie has to deal with jealousy because her niece can flirt openly with carter, as well as a sister who has the hots for her boyfriend.

what i liked: that ruthie grew as a person. i liked that she had to admit to herself what carter meant to her, and where she saw their relationship going eventually. carter. carter was and amazingly mature 19 year old and i liked that he was confident enough in himself and in their relationship to not care what other people thought of them.

what i didn't like: ruthie held on to her determination to keep carter at arms' length far too long.

A companion novella to the novel "Taboo". Our 26-year old nanny doesn't want to spend Christmas without her 18-year old lifeguard (actually 19 now) so she gets herself caught up in a scheme to try and fool her parents when she goes home for the holidays, she still being worried about what others might think about her "robbing the cradle."

Of course the scheme backfires and once again it is the "youngster" who has to be the one to either get the nanny to openly accept their relationship or move on. I really liked Taboo and this was a wonderful add on.

Wow, this short story packs a ton of secrets, twists and hot sex. Ruthie has had a rocky past. Dumped by the man she was suppose to marry, goes to college as a 28 year old and hooks up with her 19 year old boyfriend. Of course it is Christmas time, the time of the year when she has to travel back home to spend the holidays with her family. A religious, straight laced, Republican family who she feels looks at her as the screw up in the family. She can't go without Carter, she would never survive without him that long.

So the secret plan begins, no physical contact, no looks, no kisses.......he is going to be there as her nephews best friend and nothing more. As the story goes on we see how well that plays out. This is where the cute part of the story begins. Soon though it takes a turn for the dramatic and then we see the outcome when the truth finally surfaces. One problem, Carter has already left because he gets sick of being the dirty little secret.

In a few pages, the author has given us a complete story, with characters that are developed enough you can emotionally invest in it. While it is a book of sex, HOT sex, the story of Ruthie and Carter take center stage. Watching them balance out this lie that they know they can't continue, the protective older sister who figures things out faster than CSI, and parents who appear to hold their social standing very high, we get one heck of a ride.

This is a quick, but fun read. For such serious topics, the author does it without over loading us with angst. I really enjoyed reading this and highly recommend it to you readers.

OMG, I loved this story. True its short but it's so exciting and adventurous. So much packed into such a short story.

I loved Ruthie she was just so fun and young at heart but mature for a 28-year-old woman. From what I could gather she's had a bit of a rough patch in the past. But she's done her best to move on and straighten out her life.

She does move on to a young 'stud muffin' (her words not mine) named Carter. And they are perfect for each other despite their ages. But in all reality or at least in theirs age is just a number. He's just so patient and willing to do what needs to be done so he and Ruthie can have a healthy relationship.

Overall its a great short story and I wouldn't mind reading more on the characters.

Till next time ~ Sweets Books

Sweet man/boy Carter 🧡

So this book went way better than book 1! Sorry, but for Ruthie being 28 and the “more mature” one, she sure is a big dumb dumb. Her whole family loved Carter and still she insisted on lying or keeping it from them. Ughhhh it drove me crazy! He was so sweet!

*Overall 3.5/5
*Heat? 4/5 much better than book 1, although can still do more
*First person POV from Ruthie
*HEA? Yes! Although I still think their story deserved more

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Holiday Hijinks is novella that continues Ruthie and Carter’s story from Taboo. The couple are hot and heavy and enjoying dating openly while attending college. However, all that changes when Ruthie decides to take Carter home with her during the Christmas holidays but not as her boyfriend but as her nephew, Josh’s “friend” from college. She knows there is NO WAY in hell her parents will accept Carter! He’s a democrat, and her parents are conservatives. Oh, and they probably won’t be very accepting of the fact that she is twenty-eight, and he is nineteen. So, they decide to lie to Ruthie’s family. Nothing could go wrong, right? They should be able to pull this off except the two can’t seem to go an hour without having mad, passionate sex. How long will she be able to keep her hormones in check, and how is she going to fool her big sister, Tara? When you add in other crazy family members, a boy crazy 16-year old niece, and an ex, you know disaster is just waiting around the corner!

When I read the synopsis for Holiday Hijinks, I thought it was just going to be a book filled with just sex, sex, sex! While there was a lot of hot sex scenes (the bathroom, the Christmas party), there was more to it as well. It was a story about family, acceptance, and finding love in places you least expect it. I LOVED Ruthie’s family, especially Tara. Everyone needs a big sister like her. She loved Ruthie no matter what and wanted the best for her. I loved the way she ogled Carter and talked about his wingspan and wanting to “tap that” if she wasn’t married not knowing that Ruthie was doing exactly that! Her parents were great as well. I really thought it was going to be the stereotypical story of conservative, out-of-touch parents who were judgmental, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were really fair people who only wanted her to be happy. And, OMG, Carter, was every woman’s dream!!!! Not only was his body to die for, but his heart was even more attractive! He was truly the whole package. At times, I wanted to slap Ruthie across the face at not realizing what she had right in front of her face. One thing about this book that I found interesting was that I thought the author switched the male and female roles. Ruthie acted more like a male; she was more afraid of commitment and wouldn’t admit to their relationship. Carter was more open about his love and was willing to put everything out in the open. He wasn’t ashamed of it; he was proud of it.

Holiday Hijinks was a breath of fresh air for me in the romance genre. I wasn’t sure about the idea of an older woman with a younger man, but I loved it! What’s acceptable for a man is acceptable for a woman. The story just proves age is just a number. If only all men were as mature and sure of themselves as Carter was!!! If you are in the mood for a quick, hot romance with added humor, this is the book you should read next. I am hoping this isn’t the last I see Ruthie and Carter. I want to see what’s next for them. I don’t think their story is anywhere near finished.

Ladies meet 19 year old Carter Hightower, the All-American boy whose the charmer of men, women and children. Oh and did I mention he’s the finest, most delicious piece of male hardness ever to dive into a swimming pool, who posses an unbridled “special skill set!!!” But is he the man 28 year old Ruth Parker, the family flake, should bring home for Christmas Break? YES HE IS:-) Although he won’t be coming as her boyfriend, but as her nephew’s close friend.

Ruthie can’t get enough of Carter (who can blame her) and wants him with her during their winter break from Duke University, but she’s not ready to accept that true love trumps age any day. So she forces Carter and her nephew to play along in her little scheme to keep their relationship a secret from the rest of her family. However from these lies and deceptions, problems infuse leaving Ruth with a bigger mess to clean up then she could ever have imagined. Ms. Roxy Queen, struck gold with this funny and hot romantic story. Each Character was written to perfection and identifying with their pov was easy and made this short story one you’ll want to pick up and read over and over.

** I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. **
This was a novella, so of course it was a quick read, but it would have been a quick read no matter what, as the story had you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. The characters were instantly likable, even though their goal was deception of those around them! The plot was well developed and I would love to see another book based on them! I enjoyed the feelings of embarrassment, longing, and of course the drama that must be in a good book! It was a realistic scenario that I am sure more than a few people have faced throughout their dating lives. This was the first book that I have read by this author, but it won't be the last! I throughly enjoyed everything about it, from start to finish!

In Holiday Hijinks, they've been together and are headed to Ruthie's parents' home for the holidays. Ruthie decides to hide the fact that Carter and her are dating because of the age difference that she thinks will upset her parents. So she has her nephew, Josh, pretend to be Carter's friend. I enjoyed the antics and hot sex that occurs as she tries to hide their relationship. And then there is that surprise gift that Carter gives to her, just before they break up again. Ruthie's insecurities can be a bit trying, but Carter is hot and a good guy. I really wouldn't mind a third book in this series.

3.7. They were cute, especially Carter. I mean, who wouldn't like to have a guy like him in your life? And I'm not just talking about his looks. He was cute and sweet from start to the finish.
