I quite enjoyed this one.

We have Joshua, a man living alone, away from civilisation, gripped by fear after an incident that occurred in Toronto a few years previous. He is an author and is content to live on his isolated property with his trusty dog, Bear.

JOSHUA

Elizabeth is on the run, from what, she does not know. She crashes her car on his property, during a snowstorm. Luckily he finds her and takes her to his house.

Her tear filled eyes were wide with pain. For a few seconds our eyes locked and then she went limp. but before I also saw another emotion flit through her eyes. Terror.

Elizabeth remembers nothing, not even her name. She has no identification on her. She is bruised and frightened. She does not trust Joshua but over time she has no choice but to trust him. They are there alone. He convinces her that he can be trusted. She believes him and slowly comes out of her shell. She starts to feel, to laugh, to love.

I love books that have dogs and Bear was a pet. So protective of her. Not sure what the breed in the book was but as I have a beautiful Flatcoated Retriever, I am going to use that image. They are like humans, this is coming from someone who hated people talking about their animals as if they were humans = before I got my beautiful Binky!

His looks was one of his usual looks that said, “Duh, stupid human.”

Won’t go into much detail - yeah, right, ye have heard that one before.

There was suspense, tears, fears, laughter. Of course their life in the snowbound cocoon could not last forever and it did not. Things got interesting…. BUT I feel the ending with Brian was just a little too nicely wrapped up and was not very realistic to me.

And we got an epilogue, which you know I love.

Overall an enjoyable debut novel by this author. I know it is available on Netgalley if some of you want to chance your arm there. I had bought it already before I realised it was available there. God bless the Christmas and Birthday gift vouchers (Thanks ☃Ꭱeɳée).

The sex scenes were fairly hot too….. not that most of you out there read books for the hot sex scenes. I know you girls so well.

A fairly good start to the reading in 2014. Hope it continues.

I don’t rate my books only for good writing, likable characters etc., but also and above all for the moral of the story.

And this book has depth, morality and good message.

The most tender hero I read ever. The man was unique!

I can’t even describe how he cared for his woman. Definitely the case of THE epic love.

The book wasn’t perfect. Insta lust/love was a bit rushed at the beginning. I was mad when he “let her go” and I struggled with her character. She was a brave girl - and I don’t have right to judge her, because her life wasn’t light – but I wished she were stronger.

But the hero was the anchor; he was her heart, her strength, her hope, her life.

OMG, I’m not OTT romantic person *cough cough*, but even I was smitten with him.

I’m not good in retelling the story, and this one was also way too long ;-).
I was not happy with everything MCs did or said. I rolled my eyes, I was frustrated, but the most time I lived their story and I felt their love.

If I were 10 years younger I would say: I want to have his babies! *lol*

★★★★ 4 stars!

"Home, my beautiful girl. I finally found my home."

What a wonderful story. I really enjoyed reading Into the Storm. From the moment I started reading it, it managed to grab my attention and I could not stop reading until I finished it. It had the perfect balance between romance and drama/suspense. Other than a short summary, I feel like I can't reveal too much about the storyline because there are quite a few twists and turns that you just have to find out by reading the story yourself.

"I can't remember how I got here and I can't remember my name."

She is a woman on the run. Or so it seems. After her car crashes into a tree, Joshua Bennet is the one who finds her and takes care of her. The thing is, after the crash, she doesn't remember anything from her former life, not even her own name.

He is a bestselling author who's been living alone in a secluded house in the woods for the past five years. Traumatic events led him to withdraw from society and seek out a live in solitude. His only company is his loyal dog Bear and the occasional visit from his agent. When a woman in need suddenly shows up on his property, he has no choice but to help her out and open himself up to another person.

Together they help each other pick up the broken peaces from their life and find a way to overcome their deepest fears. Since she doesn't remember her own name, he decides to call her Rabbit because her apprehensive attitude reminds him of one.

"Rabbit?"
"I have to call you something. 'Hey you' doesn't seem right."

And so, begins their story. But it isn't long before secrets and revelations from their past catch up to them and make it all the more difficult for them to be together. Still, the time they spent together makes them both realize how lonely they've been and how much they've come to mean to each other in such a relatively short period of time.

Rabbit/Lizzy is a very broken spirited woman who's been through a lot of painful events in her past. She doesn't know what it's like to be loved and cared for simply for being herself. Joshua is the one who shows her what true love and caring for someone feels like. Even though he's still haunted by his past memories as well, he's the epitome of a "good guy". I loved how patient and protective he was of Rabbit was and how they both managed to support each other while fighting their own personal demons.

"I found that reason you hoped I would find one day, Rabbit. You're that reason."

Overall, Into the Storm is a beautiful, intense, drama filled story about love, courage and the power of healing. It's a story about two broken people who find each other in the most desperate of times and who find it in themselves to overcome their fears in order to fight for the love and peace they both deserve. It's a standalone and the author's debut novel and I'm already looking forward to reading more of her work in the future!

I really enjoyed this one! If you know me, you know I'm kind of a sucker for damsel-in-distress heroines. I know, I know, it's the twenty-first century and all. But sorry, I love them just as much as women who take no shit and get in fist fights. And it's not about her being weak. It's about the hero getting all defensive and angry on her behalf. I really like a hero who wants to take care of his woman and I randomly love reading about his murderous thoughts when his woman is hurt. Is that weird? Now that I've typed it it feels weird, but I promise I'm not a sociopath. It just really highlights how much they care about the heroine (imo) and I freaking LOVE it!!!

The story begins with Rabbit, a nickname Joshua gives her because of timid and skittish nature, getting into a car accident on Joshua's property. She loses her memory and he is forced to take care of her because a severe storm prevents an help from coming. She was injured and running from something, but can't remember what. I don't know if it was supposed to be a twist, but I figured out early on that .

To be honest, much of this book was low on angst, predictable and had themes that I typically don't like. Such as: Just to name a couple. But for some reason, I wasn't bothered by any of this. Maybe it was because I was also reading Paper Princess (which had a crazy amount of drama) so it balanced it out. Whatever the reason, none of these things made this less enjoyable.

description

Actually, that's kind of a lie. The hero played a big part in my enjoyment and ability to overlook other things I normally don't love. He was so incredibly sweet! Even though there was a tiny bit of angst in the beginning and he initially pushed her away, I never doubted his feelings for her. And once they were in the relationship, he was 100% in. He could be kinda cheesy, but it was all so genuine that I could do nothing less than swoon. This is primarily told in Joshua's POV, only a couple of chapters are hers, so we really get to see just how amazing he is.
"I feel it, too, Rabbit. I finally found it as well."
"What is it?"
"Home, my beautiful girl. I finally found my home."
"There was nothing else I could say that would make this easier or better. She needed to let the pain out and I would hold her while she fell apart. Then I would pick up the pieces and help put her back together."

I feel like this review is very disjointed--I'm tired and stressed and feeling lazy lately--so hopefully it still makes some kind of sense lol ;) Bottom line, if you're looking for a devoted, sweet hero and don't mind some predictability/cliches, I'd definitely recommend checking this one out! <3

A dog named Bear. RIP me.

This book was just so sweet and touching. There were two characters who were at a bad place in their life – traumatized in different ways – and they both learned to help each through it. It could be sad, but I found this book to be more uplifting.

The plot got rather slow and uneventful at times, but it was nice seeing the characters love each other and grow and overcome their fears and really, just learn to find happiness in life. It got immensely heartwarming seeing that happiness they found with each other and with their friends. And speaking of the friends… they were amazing and supportive and pretty much the best people ever.

The romance was presented almost in a perfect kind of way. Perhaps too perfect? I thought I was somewhat bothered about how smooth and instant and perfect their love was because it did get cheesy at times. However, perhaps that was a good thing because the other parts of their lives were just so sad and terrible (the trauma, the fears, the abuse) that the characters needed this ONE thing in their lives that was just… good and perfect and they did not have to worry about more than what was already on their plates. Anyway, I did love how there was such a huge emphasis on support and respect in this relationship. They did not push or force – they encouraged each other. This love was pure and aghh he loved her so much, and she him.

I was also glad that the domestic, physical, and emotional abuse in this book was not just forgiven. When the person apologized, it was not like, “OK. Thanks You’re forgiven.” The victim got understandably angry and upset and said it was not something she could truly forgive – because obviously, abuse of any kind should never be excused. Then, she realized that she was in the process of moving on from this negative part of her life. I thought that was done rather well, especially seeing her grow a bit of a backbone.

Overall, I’m going to give this 3.5 stars (rounded to 4). It was slow and cheesy at times, but I still appreciated the growth the characters had and the sweet moments.

Things that you might want to know (WARNING: Spoilers below)
Is there a happy/satisfying ending?
Love triangle? Cheating? Angst level?
Tears-worthy?
Humor?

This was such a fantastic book. Two people who's broken pieces fit together to make them whole.

~reclusive hero who suffered from agoraphobia after a traumatic assault years prior -he was so loving and devoted to the heroine
~a strong, sweet heroine who has suffered during an abusive relationship
~steamy sex scenes
~some pushing away by hero for a bit. I wanted to junk punch him for a brief time. He made up for it in spades though.
~OM drama -
~OW drama - none whatsoever
~some violence
~Epilogue with a year jump ahead. I wasn't satisfied with that and wished we had a further out epilogue. I wanted to know more of what their future held.

Review
Here we have 2 characters who need to find security and help in life.

Joshua is a famous writer who after suffering a brutal attack has become an agoraphobic.  He lives alone with his dog and a leg which was shattered during his attack.  He suffers from debilitating  pain if he uses the leg too much.

Elizabeth (Rabbit) lives in a world of submission (not sexual) to her husband.  She is tragically beaten time after time if she oversteps any type of rules he has put into place.  She has no clue who she is anymore besides being his steadfast arm candy molded into a "Stepford" wife.

These two lives collide together to form the most beautiful love story written presently.  Rabbit helps Joshua overcome his fears and desire to be alone.  While Joshua opens Rabbit up to living life fully with laughter and love.

It was after Elizabeth runs from her husband in a terrible snow storm that she loses her way and ends up crashing into a tree on Joshua's property.  Joshua rescues her but then realizes she can't remember anything from her past or who she is. Rabbit is also beaten to a pulp over her whole body which wasn't caused by the accident.  Joshua names her "Rabbit" because of how scared and skittish she is around him at first.  They are snowed in without power or outside communication for days while Joshua tries his hardest to keep the relationship with Rabbit on a acquaintance level only.

"You will beat this someday, I know you will.  Something will finally be reason enough for you to overcome what those bastards did to you."

That doesn't last long and the two shine while with each other.  Rabbit brings out Joshua's need for companionship and love while Joshua brings out the pure love of life in Rabbit.  It doesn't take long though that the snow stops and roads are cleared and lines of communication are back up.  It is then that Joshua realizes that his Rabbit is actually married and her husband is looking for her.

My Rabbit was gone.

I buried my head in her pillow and felt the bed shaking with the intensity of my sobs.

The dampness of my clothes soaked into the bedding.

I didn't care.

Nothing mattered now.

Even though Joshua loves Rabbit more than anything and wanted a future with her, he does the right thing and forces her to go back.  But back to what?  Rabbit still doesn't know who she is or what type of husband she is forced back to.

The story just unfolds from there on what will happen to Joshua and Rabbit when they are separated. What will happen when Rabbit remembers everything about her past?  Will Joshua ever find out he sent her back to a monster?  And if so, how will could he possibly rescue her if he ends up in a panic attack when venturing anywhere close to the property line?

How was I going to stop her heart from breaking when mine was breaking right along with it?

These questions and more are answered in this love story.

Wrap Up
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for the first 85-90% but then it seemed there was too much fluff at the end.  I believe if the author ended it before around that mark or shortened it a bit, it would be an instant success.

With that said, I still loved the book and the story of Rabbit and Joshua.  It was a beautiful romance with a bit of suspense added in.

This was great! Boy I needed a good book after reading a really bad one!

I really liked both Lizzy and Joshua. Honestly, I thought that his mental issues would be a huge turn off and make him seem weak. But it ended up not bothering me a bit! Whew! He was a terrific hero. Even when he screwed up, he went right about fixing it.

Lizzy was awesome. She adapted and survived. Her ex was .... well there are no civil words for him. But I liked Lizzy and did not find her TSTL or annoying. Whew again!

But the name Rabbit - no...just no. It is a really bad nickname.

I did think the book climaxed a bit early and dragged a little after. But I still enjoyed it. Occasionally, I felt I was told and then shown. Rather than just shown, but that is me being picky.

Something between 3 and 3,5...

This is the heart-breaking, and at the same time, heart-warming story of two wounded characters: Lizzy (Rabbit) & Joshua...

It was refreshing to have a male character that had a weakness as opposed to the common "rich, hot and confident" heroes.

Our hero is a man who was once attacked by a group of people and severely injured, thus suffering from agoraphobia now. He hasn't gone out of his property for the past 5 years. He lives with his giant dog, BEAR.

The heroine is an abused woman, who is running away from her attacker. She has severe bruises on her body, which shows that she was brutally beaten before she ran away for her life and had an accident in the storm.

The storm and the car accident bring these two wounded people together as she ends up in his property, having hit a tree in the snowstorm.

Our heroine doesn't remember her name as she has amnesia after the accident. Joshua starts to call her “Rabbit", as she reminds him of the scary rabbits in the forest.

“It’s okay, Rabbit. It’s just the wind. You’re safe, I promise." I spoke without thinking. Her head tilted to the side as she regarded me.
“Rabbit?”
I shrugged sheepishly. “I have to call you something. ‘Hey you’ doesn’t seem right. And you remind me of the little grey rabbits that are around here.”
“ I don’t understand. I’m furry?”
I laughed. “No, you’re small, kinda jumpy and, dressed the way you are right now, you’re all grey. And they look at me apprehensively when I approach them, just like you do.”
She regarded me quietly for a moment, her eyes locking me in their gaze. “Are you hunting or feeding them when you approach?” she asked.
I smiled soothingly. “I’m a sucker. I feed them. I don’t hunt. At all.”
Her shoulders relaxed a little. “Rabbit’s okay then.”
I grinned. “Rabbit it is.”

Slowly and miraculously, a tender and sweet connection develops between them. Eventually, they fall in love and help each other heal. But a few weeks later, when they find out that someone is looking for her, Joshua decides that the right thing is to end their relationship and to send her to her real life. She doesn’t want to go and she says she loves him but he doesn’t trust her feelings as she has no memory of her past.

I was really pissed at Joshua at that point. I couldn’t understand how he loved her so much but sent her away before her memory came back and she told him who did all that abuse to her. It was very cruel and thoughtless of him to send her back to her former life when it was so risky. He could have made sure she was treated in a hospital first to regain her memory before he sent her away...

As I predicted, she has been sent back to her abuser!

One day, something triggers her memory and she remembers everything. She needs Joshua’s help and when Joshua learns what he has done, he regrets awfully and tries his best to get her back safely.

Predictable

At 15-20% of the book, I predicted who the abuser was and why he abused her and as the story progressed, I predicted everything 50 or 80 pages before it happened. All my predictions came true with no exception. So, it is what you will assume while you are reading; no surprises, no shocks.

Dragging

The book focuses on the healing process of a person suffering from agoraphobia as realistically as it approaches to the healing period of the victim of physical abuse. Nothing is rushed. Everything happens within reason and over a stretched period of time. Unfortunately, it has a downside because the 367 page-length book is dragging at some points for this very reason.

At 20% of the book, they are in love and this never changes all through the book. Even though they are separated for a short while, they are together for the majority of the book. Their love and need for each other makes their world better and with support from one another, both of them slowly heal.

Final thoughts:

I would have appreciated a little bit of a mystery and a few surprises here and there about her abuser but there was none. I still liked the story, though.

But in addition to being too predictable, the book is also way too slow and way too long. Think of the pace a tortoise moves and the book moves at that pace… So so slowly.

For example, there are pages and pages of angst-free and sweet moments when they play snowball, prepare breakfast, bake a pie etc and the very same things such as her seeing a nightmare, him comforting her happen more than once or twice, maybe 5 or 10 times.

But again despite all that repetitive and angst-free content, I never wanted to drop it because I had a liking to the characters. Also, the dog, BEAR, was so cute and his protective attitude towards Rabbit was endearing...

I turned to see Rabbit hesitating in the kitchen, unsure if she should come any closer. She looked as exhausted as I felt. Bear stood beside her, eyeing me with utter disdain.
Traitorous dog.
I was exhausted and not in the mood for any kind of confrontation, even though I knew one was about to happen.

This book could very easily have been a 5 star read if it was less predictable and shorter with a faster pace. Its characters were really likable.

Therefore, -1 point for its being too slow and too long and -1 point for its easy predictability.

So, 3 it is, or max 3,5...

Here are some quotes from it...

I felt the bile rise up in my throat. Someone had hurt this little woman and unless I was mistaken, she was trying to escape from whoever did this. There was no other explanation as to why she would be out in this hellish storm. She had to be running.

The anger I had been feeling at the unwelcome intrusion melted away as I stood looking at her bruised and battered body. Unpleasant memories of waking up in the hospital, beaten beyond recognition, swam through my mind. It had happened years ago, but I could still remember the pain I had been in.

***

“I thought I was yours.”
I had to close my eyes at the pain that hit me. I struggled to keep my voice even.
“I only borrowed you, Rabbit. We both know you were never mine to keep.”

***

I had moved too fast. I had made the wrong decision. I shouldn’t have sent her back.

Rabbit wasn’t safe and I needed to make her safe.
I needed to get her back here.
Home.
With me.

***

“ I feel it, too, Rabbit. I finally found it as well.”
“ What is it?” I lifted my head and locked my gaze on hers.
“ Home, my beautiful girl. I finally found my home.”

A fabulous 5 star debut by Melanie Moreland!

I really loved this story of two broken people coming together and following each other down the road of hope and healing. This story had the perfect blend of romance, steam, a little suspense..and tragedy. I had trouble putting this one down.. Rabbit and Joshua's story just had me hooked from the beginning.

The book starts out with a badly abused woman, Elizabeth James, escaping a truly horrible man. She's literally running for her life. She's covered in bruises all over her body, bleeding, crying. She's in flight mode, knowing that if she doesn't get away now then her days are numbered..

Elizabeth ( aka Rabbit)

Joshua Bennett is a famous writer that lives out in the middle of nowhere.. he's not been out of his house in several years due to an event that scarred him emotionally and physically for life. Him and his faithful dog Bear are alone on very secluded land with lots of security. He has everything he needs delivered to him and he has his editor that visits regularly.. he does have friends that visit occasionally that he's still close with. But he won't leave his land..nothing can make him leave his sanctuary.

Joshua...

Elizabeth is making her escape in the middle of a violent snow storm..she doesn't care where she's going, just that she has to get out of there. She loses her direction due to the amount of snow and her being so upset. Next thing she's on a small isolated road..then she's hit a tree and it's lights out.

Joshua can't believe that someone has actually crashed on his property..his sanctuary. He and Bear rush out into the snow to see who's in the car and what he finds erases all of his initial anger. This small slip of a girl didn't just get her injury's in this wreck. Of that, he is certain. With no form of communication with the outside world due to the snow storm, he takes the wounded woman inside his home to see to her injuries.. When she finally wakes up, she has no memory of who she is, how she got there, or how she got her injuries. Can she trust Joshua? Is he who he really says he is? Did he save her or is he the one that hurt her?

This was a very emotional journey for both of them.. holed up inside his home they get to know each other. Joshua begins to call her Rabbit, since they don't know her name and she reminds him of a small frightened rabbit. As they spend more time together, their walls start to come down and they begin to trust each other..and then more. Eventually the steam factor comes in and it was perfect. Although not graphic by any means ( which I usually prefer ;) ), it was still very hot, very emotional, and pretty frequent. It was never just sex with them.. you could feel the emotional connection with them and how much they were helping each other.

But the outside world wont' stay away forever..there's a man out there that thinks he owns Rabbit and he'll do whatever it takes to get her back...Joshua will do whatever he can to protect her...including leave his sanctuary if he has to...

Yep, I loved this one! We get a BEAUTIFUL HEA and a fantastic epilogue. I love love LOVE when an author gives us such a good epilogue. So many books just give us a brief glimpse into a couple's future, but Melanie gave us more than a glimpse.. she let us see how far Joshua and Rabbit have come and what a wonderful place they came to. It was awesome...

So, I can honestly say I recommend this book highly for anyone that loves a sweet emotional love story..especially where both the man and woman are damaged and they come together and persevere over their obstacles. It was great! Don't let this one pass you up.

I came across this book quite randomly and since the premise grabbed my attention, I decided to give it a try and ended up reading it in one sitting and staying up late to finish it.

The story is about a woman who drives off in her car in the middle of a storm, fleeing a severely abusive relationship. But when her car spins out of control on a snowy road, she crashes in the driveway of Joshua Bennett, a famous but reclusive author with a dark past living alone in the woods with only his dog.

Things get more complicated though when she wakes up with no memory of who she is, what had happened to her, or where she came from. The only clue to her past are the bruises on her body.

Josh takes her in and nurses her back to heath but her condition also bring back painful memories from his own past. With the storm raging on outside, they get to know each other in the little secluded cabin and the feelings that they try to hold back intensify. But as they begin to fall in love, her past catches up to her...

Ok, I really did like this book overall but in the interest of full honesty, I'm just going to tell you upfront that it is chock full of romance cliches. Like really. Full of them. However, I'm not trying to nitpick and I'm not going to write a whole list of them because a) that would be a loooong list, and b) that's not the point. If the idea of that turns you off, then this isn't the book for you. But if you're ok with it being like that, then do give it a try because despite the cliches, I genuinely did have a fun time reading it.

There's something about the whole storyline of two broken people helping each other heal and finding love with each other that quite honestly gets me every time. So yeah, there were several things that made me roll my eyes (but with a smile, not in a frustrated way) or shake my head a little and usually that would be a turn off for me buuuuuut for whatever reason, it kinda just worked for this book.

I liked that the story had both romance and suspense in it. The whole first big section was very sweet and romantic but, despite the steam between them, her whole past was still a mystery. Where did she come from? Should she go back? Was anyone looking for her? Should she be hiding? And then there was the whole part where her past did come out and dealing with that definitely kept me flipping those pages.

It's a complete story -- a standalone with an epilogue so you get everything in one package. So my advice is this... if you're going to read this book, just be forgiving of the cliches and enjoy it for what it is. It's a sweet love story with a dash of mystery and just a really easy read.  And sometimes, that's just what you need.

Rating: 4 stars. Standalone.

5 -- Rabbit -- stars

It has been two years since I’ve read this debut novel and I’ve been a fan of Melanie Moreland ever since. I loved this book just as much as the first time I read it. Her books are always one of my most anticipating releases of the year and I can’t wait for her next release. I’m sure her next book will be unique and amazing, just like her other books. I highly recommend all her books.

Joshua hasn’t left his property for 5 years after an horrible incident. On a snowy day, he finds a woman who has crashed her car against a tree on his property. He carries her into his house and cares after her. When that woman wakes up, she doesn’t remember how she got there or what her name is. He continues to care for her, because they’re snowed in and there is no electricity to call somebody. Joshua names her ‘Rabbit’, because she reminds him of the scared, vulnerable rabbits he feeds in his garden. Rabbit feels more and more at home at Joshua’s place and Joshua makes her feel loved. They are both scared what will happen when electricity gets back on and when they find out who Rabbit really is. They can’t imagine not living together anymore after admitting their feelings to each other, but sooner rather than later the electricity gets back on and it will change their lives.

I adore both main characters! Joshua is an amazing man, I loved him from the beginning. He has been secluded for so long and doesn’t trust anyone, but he cares for Rabbit immediately. Also his dog, Bear, trusts her and doesn’t leave her side. Joshua is very sweet and caring. He opens up to Rabbit about his past and does things he never thought he would do ever again. When Rabbit’s past is revealed, it’s horrible. She becomes stronger because of Joshua and she needs him. She was so scared and emotional when Joshua found her, but after a while she feels safe, loved and cared for. She doesn’t want to leave him and Bear, but she has a past and it comes back eventually. She cares about Joshua a lot. She helps him with his leg and cooks for him all the time. At the end, they have been through so much and they help each other move on. Their love is very strong. They are perfect for each other for so many reasons. They deserve each other and the happily ever after they got together.

I had so many questions while reading this book. I wanted to know what Rabbit’s past is or what was going to happen when they knew her past. All those questions kept me reading. Things always happen at moments when I least expected it. There is so much I want to talk about, but that would spoil things and you really have to find out everything yourselves.

I also love the secondary characters. Joshua has great friends who support him and love Rabbit immediately. They also make new friends that will always have their backs and help whenever they can. Bear is an amazing dog and important for their story and healing.

no thoughts, but to say i think this is perfect for fans of Mia Sheridan and/or the books Unloved by Katy Regnery, Dead Man’s Hand by Giulia Lagomarsino, and Tied by Carian Cole.

the story is of an abused h running away from her husband during a snowstorm. she gets into an accident and is saved by the H who suffers from agoraphobia. they find out the h has temporarily lost her memory, and they fall in love while the H nurses the h back to health.

its a sweet, heartwarming story thats also kinda tragic & heartbreaking because of the MCs pasts. i listened to it on a whim, and it was a pleasant enough read to pass the time.

I really enjoyed this one! This author is very talented- her book was well written, very detailed, nothing was left unresolved, and I didn't notice any discrepancies in the storyline. It's a nice long book that drags you in. I thought Rabbit (Lizzy) and Joshua were wonderful together! They both had some serious things to overcome and they were a great strength for each other. There is also a very full HEA. I would have loved even more, but I was totally satisfied with the ending!

Melanie Moreland has done it again! I immediately one-clicked this book on Amazon after finishing Beneath the Scars and I am so glad that I did! The love stories Ms Moreland is able to weave together are unlike anything that I have ever read. I fell in love with all of the main characters in the books and both books left me with an intense book hangover! Okay, so on to the review for this book! LOVED it.

The sexual tension and love felt between Rabbit and Joshua was seriously intense. With that little intro, time to discuss the main characters!

description

Rabbit...we meet Rabbit driving recklessly in a snow storm, gaining as much distance as she can from whatever she is running from. Her car careens into a tree and the next thing she is met with is a pair of beautiful blue eyes- Joshua's eyes. Joshua takes her inside to his house and is immediately shocked by her appearance. Bruises cover her body, and many of them were not a result of the crash. Joshua and Rabbit spend time trying to figure out her past, and in the process, fall in love.

And of course, I have to mention the sex scenes. WOW, just WOW. So steamy.
description

And Joshua...woooooo what a sexy and compassionate man. Joshua is a reclusive writer who suffers from physical and mental pain that stems from an event that happened to him a few years prior to meeting Rabbit. His first reaction to seeing this girl in the snow was that of annoyance. He spent years barricading himself in his house and never intended on having to share his home- especially not with a broken woman suffering from amnesia. He warms up to Rabbit and the feelings he has for her grows everyday. From there, you are left wondering what happened to Rabbit that made her have to drive as fast as she can away from it in a snow storm. The constant knowing that they may have limited time with each other is truly heartbreaking and it makes the moments they have together that much more intense.

This is an amazing story of how love can conquer anything and how the past may shape who you are today, but it does not define you.

This book has all of that Miss Moreland romantic writing. I always find Miss Moreland writing soothing and romantic. Joshua is a loner. After a horrific incident that happens to him, he shuts himself in isolation. He is a best seller mystery writer. Until one day, a woman crashing into his life.

Elizabeth/ rabiit is a victim of domestic abuse. On a fateful stormy night, she runs away from her husband and crashing into Joshua property. The insta love is quick between these two. Into the Storm has a bit of thriller in it. I think Miss Moreland writes this book in respect of her favorite mystery/ thriller author.

The POV is dual but mostly from Joshua. We learn how Joshua character grows into a strong man and overcome his fear to be a better man fro Lizze. And we also see Lizze courage and determination to end her abuse. Its good reading. Perfect for Valentine day.

I'm not going to go in to the story line because I think you should all have the pleasure of reading that all for yourself. I also was amazed at how much I loved the main characters.
When I was in the first 100 pages to read through, I was thinking about that, what else can happen. So much has already taken place.

As in most books the main characters struggle to be together. In this book was this beautiful and loving time together so much more. And I liked. It was easier to contact with characters.
“Home, my beautiful girl. I finally found my home.”

The end was beautiful and I loved how all of these situations were resolved.
It all started with a snowstorm and a lost, frightened woman.
It ended here.
With my family —safe and peaceful.
Because she found me and calmed the storm.

Re-read

Joshua with his dog Bear are about to prepare for a winter storm. While outside to check on his generators, hears a car crash on his property. When he gets to the car he sees a woman unconscious and bleeding behind the wheel. When he brings her into the house to warm and check her injuries he sees she has been beat up and due to the head injury she doesn't remember why she was running or what her name is. Due to an experience in his past experience, he suffers from Agoraphobia and doesn't quite know how to deal with having her in his home and being trapped with a stranger due to the storm. He also finds himself attracted to her and at first he pushes her away until he gives into what he feels for her and she gives into her feelings for him. But someone is looking for her and it will cause lots of problems for the couple.

This was about Joshua and the heroine he names Rabbit. Both of these people have had to deal with physical violence and become prisoners due to their traumatic experiences. They meet under bad weather conditions and find solace in each other which neither has experienced in years. The problem between them is that Rabbit is on the run but has no memory why or who she is which is a lot of the plot for the story as well.

On my first read,I enjoyed the story of their relationship but this one took me longer to connect with them than Over the Fence. I don't think I really connected to them until 30 or 40% into it which is one reason my rating isn't as high. The second read I must say that I was able to really appreciate it more and enjoy it more. I did love the dog, Bear. I wasn't a fan of how Rabbit's abuser was dealt with though. I really wished it was written so that they nailed him. He got off way too easy and that is one of the other things that took my rating down. But it had the low angst and fascinating story that keep me reading.

Joshua Bennett is a well known, successful author who has lived alone for the last five years. He experienced something tramatic, and then moved himself to a secluded house where he seperates himself from society, and never leaves his property. He has everything he needs delivered to him, and the few friends he has come to him. He also has a dog named Bear who keeps him company.

While Joshua is living his reclusive life, Elizabeth James aka Lizzy/Rabbit is living in her own personal hell. She is with an abusive husband and decides to escape one evening when she see's her chance. She flees one evening, and finds herself in a horrible snow storm. She loses control of her car and it smashes into a tree on Joshua's property. She ends up with no memory of who she is. Joshua is a stranger to her, but is kind, protective, and patient. He cares for her, and shows her what real love and tenderness is.

Into the Storm is a story about overcoming abuse, fighting your fears, and healing & love. It was an intense, emotional book full of suspense, and two lost people finding their home in each other. Neither were living much of a life until they found each other. They helped each other to heal, and it was an absolutely beautiful HEA! :))

-Why did she feel so right in my arms?

-What was it that made me feel so protective of her? I had never had this kind of response to another person. Normally I didn't like strangers. Yet she didn't feel like a stranger to me.

-"I'm not sure why, but I feel safe with you."

-It's like I've been waiting for something and I finally found it."

-"Home, my beautiful girl. I finally found my home."

-It was as if everything I needed was in this very room and the sense of emptiness I always felt had vanished.

-She was my life now. She was everything.

safety info: heroine was technically married but her husband was very abusive to her, and she runs away from him. I don't consider this to be cheating personally. Hero and heroine were both celibate for a long time before the start of the story. no ow drama, om drama from abusive husband. no scenes with om/ow

My "Rabbit" and Joshua:

2.5 STARS

Joshua is troubled man living secluded life, hiding from people and society. Rabbit is lost and abused woman, fighting her amnesia. What starts as awkward encounter, develops into something strong and powerful. But what happens when they have to face real life? Will he follow or stay hidden?

Into The Storm has its ups and downs. There were couple of exciting moments as well as some boring ones. I really liked the premise of this story but for some reason I was never 100% invested into it. Moreover, flow of this story was quite slow for me and it dragged a lot.

Characters did not do it for me either. Especially heroine who was a little bit over-sensitive for my liking. I mean, she had so many other more serious problems and all she was "hurting" about was the fact that this man she knew for two days was not pinning over her... I can understand broken characters, but I cannot stand weak whining damsels-in-distress.

This book has its potential and it definitely has its target group. So do not feel discouraged by my review, you can feel different about it!

There will be spoilers...

Bear, Joshua's dog, was great. I loved him and how judgey he was without the capability of speech. However, sweet sassy molasses, this book was awful. Why?

Brian- The villain of the book, Rabbit/Lizzy's husband. We find out the reason he is abusive and cold is because he's is angry and gay. That's right Melanie Moreland made his angst about being in the closet and then his comeuppance is to go to prison in Russia (got into a fight with his bf in public).
This was ridiculous, insulting, and gross. He couldn't just be an abusive jerk, he had to be gay. What's worse is Moreland uses this as a fix for keeping Lizzy celibate. I won't be reading anymore of her books.

Joshua- the "hero" is a selfish, myopic, immature jackhole. He is wishy washy, kissing Lizzy and then insulting her in order to push her away. When he finds out who she is he sends her back like an overdue library book. His words about it:

“I thought it would be easier for her to leave on my terms rather than have her wake up three months from now and remember her other life and have to let her go then."

He knows she was beaten, figures her husband was telling the truth and has her delivered back to him because what if she remembers?! He ignores her feelings, decides he knows better. As do his friends. They all treated him like he was the victim and they had to protect him. I got so tired of hearing how brave and awesome he was when he hadn't been in a moment of danger in years. Goodness I hated Cecelia.

After he gets her back (everyone in the book treats her like she is 5), he is still a jackhole. Or in his own words "I am such an asshole". He really was.
He even makes the confrontation with Brian about him.

Rabbit/Lizzy- She was sweet but so weak. I got her insecurities and fears. Brian was awful. But she lost all sense of self preservation with her memory. After the prologue she stopped standing up for herself. She did what she was told while pouting, crying, sobbing or a combo of the three. Her begging Joshua to let her stay, her having several chances to get away from Brian but not trying because if Joshua doesn't want her, then why not trying being beaten to death. Ugh.

Brian again- he was a cartoon character by the end. He suddenly had henchmen, he put a tracking device in her neck, brings his bf to confront her.

Did I mention that this book is awful???

3.5-4 Stars....

 photo image_zpsb982bf4c.jpg

Joshua and Rabbit (Lizzy) were great main characters. They were both sweet, compassionate and sexy!

Joshua was a man trapped within his fears. He suffered something in his past that has left him fearful of being away from his home and amongst the everyday world. For the last 5 years he has lived in his home with his beloved dog Bear, writing his books and staying as content as he possibly could existing in a very lonely life. Joshua's fears appeared too great for him to overcome. He had few close friends and local people that he allowed into his life. Until one faithful stormy day when his life would change forever.

Rabbit (Elizabeth/Lizzy James) who is married to an evil and degrading man has finally realized she has no other choice than to leave and run for her life. As Lizzy makes her escape, she has no idea where she is going and what she will do but she just keeps driving to get away. As she is driving into a snow storm she loses control of her car, becomes disoriented and an accident happens. She ends up on Joshua's property not realizing how her life is about to change.

Because of the accident Lizzy has lost her memory. Not understanding what she was running from and who she is Lizzy really has no other choice to trust Joshua. Not knowing her name, Joshua decides to name her Rabbit because when he finds her she looks like a frightened rabbit, so vulnerable and small. As Joshua cares for her, his feelings quickly grow he starts to let her into his life as much as he can. Slowly as they spend time together, Rabbit begins to heal physically and emotionally. Joshua is healing too. He is beginning to live his life and not just exist in it. Rabbit is filling so much of the loneliness he felt. The attraction and desire they have for each is undeniable. The sex scenes were amazing. Umm the hot tub! Ya... But not sure about out in the snow!! :)

Unfortunately their snow induced cocoon they have been living in comes to an end that neither one of them are happy about and what happens next leaves both Joshua and Rabbit fighting to return to each other.

This story is filled with so much. There is happiness and tears. There is more pain but there is healing. There is bravery and determination. Both Joshua and Rabbit go through so much but their love for each other is truly unwavering.

Even though I enjoyed this story and the epilogue was sweet, I just felt that it went on just a little too long and things were wrapped up just a little too perfectly for me. All and all it was a good read. I would definitely recommend it to my GR friends!

This book was so sweet. It's not perfect, and it did drag in places, but it just really worked for me.

I loved seeing these two win out again the odds. It was a great time. Beautiful love story.
