Client No. 5

Rate this book
Ally loves her job. She makes good money, has great work friends, and lives in the best city in the world.

Sure, being an upscale escort has its downfalls. The sex is usually bad, and it’s always about satisfying the client’s needs, not one’s own. But Ally didn’t end up in this business for lack of other opportunities. She’s good at what she does and is proud she can command a high price for it. What Ally really gets out of it, though, is a sense of freedom, of power and control that she severely lacks in her private life. She’s closed off from everyone around her, including herself.

Everything gets thrown into chaos, however, when she gets the call for a new client, her fifth of the night. Scott Walker is different. He’s a young go-getter executive accustomed to getting whatever he wants. And ultimately he doesn’t want Ally’s body; he wants her heart. But that’s the one thing she refuses to give up.

Ally is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: to stay in her comfort zone or step outside it for someone who might just be worth the risk.

If you think you've read every story about a hooker with a heart of gold, think again. Sexy and edgy, Client No.5 will seduce you into the intimate world of a high-class call girl, strutting its stilettos into the raw, erotic territory Pretty Woman feared to tread.

My Ally and Scott:

Ally is the best prostitute in the town and does everything to satisfy her clients.
“Think of me like a restaurant. You could stay home and cook for yourself, or you could pay a chef to cook the food and clean up after you. This is no different. I offer a service.”

But when she is supposed to "serve" a good looking man with manners, she is out of her depths.
"Was I so broken that I didn’t know how to be treated nicely?"

Has she met the person for whom she will break all her rules?

In the name of pushing my boundaries and challenging my reading preferences, I decided to read this book about hooker who actually loves her job and does it willingly. I was curious where would author take this story. And most importantly I was hoping it wouldn’t turn into another "Pretty Woman". It didn’t. Yet, I still found various features that didn’t work for me:

* Disintegrity of the heroine. Ally was very confused person. One moment she was all "I-am-whore-and-I-am-proud-of-it", only to be offended when someone pointed it out seconds later. She found a man who was genuinely interested in her, but she kept pushing him away and than acted like he hurted her when he actually walked away.

* Totally unrealistic hero. Normal man would never ever want a woman who works like a prostitute. I mean a man can fall in love, but to try date her while he knew she was still working and being fucked regularly by other men? I wasn’t buying it.

* Ally’s background story was lost in the ocean of hot but meaningless sex. Groupies, anal, threesome, angry sex, oral sex, bathroom sex... It lacked emotional connection for me as a reader and I could not become accustomed to the Ally or feel bad for her.
"This was what was important. Sex. This was all that mattered. Pleasure. I didn’t need love. I didn’t want to have to answer to someone else, to worry about them, or have to consider their feelings."

I’m all for steamy reads but I need emotions too. And reading about the life of poeple in high class escort business just didn’t work for me. If you are fan of book porn with HEA, you may love this book. But if you are looking for something more, you won’t probably find it here.

Well, damn.

Something about Omnific, they KNOW what they are working with.

When I received the review request for this book, and I saw the cover, I must admit I was a bit reluctant to read it, but guys, I do not regret doing it, at all.

This book is dark, raw, passionate, and you must jump into it with an open mind, because, well, the heroine is a prostitute, she likes sex, and she doesn't make apologies for her lifestyle.

I really enjoyed Joy's writing, it's refreshing, and I really liked this story because it's different. I love different!!

Anyways, since I really enjoyed this story, I look forward to anything Joy writes :)

Joy Fulcher is a woman who definitely has a way with words. I read this bad boy within a matter of about 4 hours which I wouldn't have been able to do without Joy's ability to blend words so naturally as well as the entertaining and easy to follow storyline. I also love that Joy is descriptive but doesn't dwell on it. There is nothing worse than reading about how a room is set out and all of the colours in it for about 3 paragraphs (just an example). She is quick and to the point with what and where the scene is happening then straight back to the story. She has that perfect amount of description.

The storyline follows Ally and all of the sexual experiences she encounters being one of the top prostitutes in New York. Some are an absolute hoot to read and some may soak your panties. Scenes throughout the book range from fetish lovers all the way to orgies and love making, all surprisingly enjoyable to read. I found myself getting antsy over scenes that I wouldn't normally get antsy over! I found them tastefully written and realistic and so well descriptive, which is so important in those types of scenes.

The characters I just loved! They were realistic, relateable, quirky and unique. And even though they were shagging the majority of the time, I found them loveable, funny, intense and full of emotion. I especially loved Ally and Scott's relationship. While it was a rather quick forming relationship, it was believable. There wasn't any of that unrealistic intense love right off the bat.

So if you're looking for an adult fiction that has it all, plus some, then this is for you!

I really disliked this book from about page 18 onwards. And I'll be totally honest, I didn't actually get to the end. I just couldn't stand reading anymore of this book. The characters are all terrible and 2-demnsional and everything about this "upscale" escort business is totally unprofessional.

Their manager/pimp works out of his apartment that he shares with Ally's brother and he somehow hasn't clued onto the fact that she's a prostitute. Ally is being continuously forced out of her comfort zone by both her manager and Client No. 5. The manager sleeps with all the girls to make sure they can do the job. I understand needing to know if they can do their jobs but you test them out on a male prostitute, you don't try them out for yourself. That it totally unprofessional.

This was a book that felt like the only important part of the story was the sex. Don't get me wrong, books that are just about the sex can work well as long as that's what you advertise and it doesn't get longer than a novella. When the blurb is only talking about the relationship but the book makes that plot line fell like a side note the author isn't doing their job right.

This book was originally fan fiction and it shows. It needs much better research and a serious editing. The standards for a publish work and something put up online for free (especially fan fiction) are VASTLY different and this isn't good enough to be published, no matter how many reads it had on line. (And to be frank I wouldn't have even finished this as a fanfic. That's how much I disliked it.)

I think what I liked best about this book was that the author didn't judge Ally. Ally's a prostitute; she chose her profession, she's good at it, and she likes sex. Ally was very clear headed in her decision making, and I liked that Joy made her a fully realized character, with flaws and heart and a great character arc.

It doesn't hurt that Joy Fulcher can really write a sex scene, either! :) And those, too, ran the gamut, including more than one menage and a girls only scene. (yay!) She wrote an orgy, and then two people sweetly making love, and they were both hot and real and respectful of all parties.

Best book about a high class hooker I've read...well...ever! :) Go grab it!

I have received this book from a blog tour host in exchange of an honest review.

The plot for this book intigued me and I was curious to see what the author would do.
I was impressed by Joy Fulcher's ability to write this story without making the reader judge the main character.

I liked the characters in this book because they were realistic and so were the relationships between them.
The sex scenes are many and varied. They are well written and steamy and quite enjoyable.

Client Nº5 gets a rating of 3 1/2 stars from me! :)

This was a completely mediocre book for me. I know way too much about how actual escorts work to have enjoyed it from a business standpoint. It was painfully obvious to me that the author thought that SW was nothing more than constantly being in bed with clients, and wrote it simply to titillate the reader. The unprofessionalism of Todd, Ally's pimp, was also pretty gross at times. He made her have sex with a new male escort he wanted to test out, and then later invited her to an orgy.

The relationship between Scott and Ally was super gross from the get-go. It kind of made me wonder what Scott was like outside of his interactions with Ally, to the point where I was wondering if he wasn't one of those "nice guys" who actually treat women like shit. He sure didn't treat Ally right, going so far as to demand that she feel a certain way the first time that they made love. That scene wasn't sweet, it was disturbing on so many levels.

The only reason why I didn't give this book 1 star was because of the ending. I completely and utterly loved the way that it went.

Overall, a mediocrely titillating story about poorly-researched prostitution. If you can slog through like 80% of the book (and that toxic shitshow of a "romance"), then the girlboss ending was honestly pretty worth it.

When I started Client No 5, I was in love. I thought for sure it was going to be a 5 bat read for me. I mean it was lines like this that made me want more.

"I only hoped he didn't expect some Pretty Woman happy ending because I wasn't that girl."

"In the blackness of my mind he wasn't an overweight balding accountant who smelled of stale tobacco. He was tall, handsome, and gentle."

What is not to love and get excited for, right? Wrong. I thought this book was going to either be romance, you know the prostitute finds Prince Charming (yeah Pretty Woman stuff), or just straight raunchy life of a hooker stuff. It was neither although I think the author was hoping to make it both. Let me tell you where I felt it started going wrong. She met a client who she felt more than the normal hooker feelings for. Great start but I was like please tell me she isn't going to just give up her day (or would it be night?) job. Well I won't spoil it for you but I will tell you this-I found the "hero" to be a total controlling douche-bag. I didn't connect with him at all and I wanted to punch him in the face every time he made an appearance in the book.

"He was trying to be okay with it but it really did bother him. That was only going to get worse, not better.I suddenly felt suffocated in his arms."

"...but I wasn't going to let him come marching in and start controlling my life. He gave me a guilty smile. "I'm sorry, Ally. I'm just so used to always getting my way."

"Fuck!" I breathed out as his hips pistoned. "Don't swear this time."

Then there are the total unrealistic moments that had me shaking my head and asking myself, really?

"Condoms are in my bag." "We don't need them," he said, continuing to kiss me.

WTF is that? She had admitted her number of men she had slept with in her "career" and even using protection, I wouldn't feel comfortable sleeping with someone that had been with that many people. I am not even sure if they used THREE condoms on top of each other I could do it.

Okay then the author hinted at some huge heartbreak that made her seek this line of work. When it finally came out what it was, I seriously almost laughed. It was so ridiculous that she could have THAT much heartbreak and be so against love for such a petty thing.

"Love is hard, and it hurts you. You have to make yourself very vulnerable"

"Love can only ever end in a breakup or death. There are no happy endings"

Okay so she was soooooo against love and relationships, yet she was so weak and insecure, in my opinion.

ONE last rant-If I were to have all her "rules" about what counts as sex and sex partners I could convince myself that I was a virgin again!

While this book fell short in many places for me, I did appreciate the ending where Ally grew a fricking backbone and took control of her life. She quit whining about it and just did it. The beginning and ending were really good for me. It was just everything in between that felt rote.

Ally is an upscale escort and is great at her job. She makes god money and enjoys several aspects of her work. The parts of the job that are unsatisfying, such as her not receiving much sexual pleasure out of the majority of her encounters, are balanced by the power and control she feels and the pride she takes in her work. She is very expensive and worth the price. After a long evening of more clients than she usually takes on, her manager arranges for one final "date". Client number 5 turns out to be very attractive and prices her with the kind of sexual pleasure she hasn't experienced in a long time. Scott Walker is a young successful man who isn't in the business of hiring escorts, but he decides to try it out after some encouragement from his cousin (Ally's manager). He feels a strong connection to Ally and really wants to get to know her and try to have a real relationship. Ally has a lot of rules in place, and has not been tempted to break them before now.

This is a sexy book with a boat load of sex in it. Lots. The thing I liked about it is that is provided an interesting look into the escort world and not the typical stuff that we read about in other books in this genre. Ally is open and honest and I liked that her character had grit and wasn't a secret virginal lady pretending to be a prostitute and waiting for prince charming to take her away from that life. She knows what she does and she owns it. Even in the face of meeting someone she is genuinely attracted to, she isn't just about to run away with him and leave her work and her independence behind at the first offer she gets. I like that Ally did make some tough choices and ultimately made some big changes in her life, but I really like that she did it on her own terms and in her own way.

There were things that I liked about Scott, but I really didn't love Scott. As far as sexy book boyfriends go he was okay and I was really hoping that Alley would get what she wanted, but I didn't feel connected to his character. i thought he was a little too sappy and naive. I also found him a little whiny at times. Ultimately, I'm glad the way this book turned out and I did enjoy reading it. I think the grit and real feel to Ally and her friends and watching her work through her own stuff was what made this book good. I would read more by this author in the future.

One thing I will say... Joy Fulcher knows her way around a sex scene! She is such a great writer. I love writers that can write scenes in ways that I feel like I am actually in the room watching them unfold. Joy Fulcher does that for me. She also creates amazingly interesting characters. Ally is everything I can't imagine being. She is a prostitute that makes absolutely no apologies for being one.
Where I did question the book was with Scott and Ally's relationship. I struggled with the idea that a man could love a woman and fight for her even when she was spending her nights happily sleeping with other men and really didn't want to stop.
All in all, I did enjoy the book and I am glad I read it. It may not have been a realistic story for me but it was a fun, steamy HEA and it made me lose myself in it for several hours.

OK, I have mixed feelings about this book. Starts off with a great story jumping right in, then it keeps going and it was getting good. The way the book was going I had an idea of how it might have ended and in my mind it was good. I would have given this book 5 stars but the ending was disappointing. It felt like it was rushed and cut off to early. There was nothing interesting in the end. There should have been more. But overall it was a good book. I enjoyed it(until the end) I would recommend reading this to get the heat going.

Let me first start off by saying that it boggles my mind that some rated this with only one or two stars...I fell in love with this book and with Alison and Scott...through it all he loved her and wanted to save her...save her enough to want to save herself...this book was awesome...too bad others reading it didn't feel the same way...

Terrible in every way possible, particularly the insta-love, the unbelievable characters (one dimensional) the inconceivable plot (laughable), and the Pretty Woman approach (tired.)
