Mary Whitney

Mary Whitney blames Laura Ingalls Wilder and Margaret Mitchell for her obsession with romance novels. At an early age, Mary fell in love with the Little House series and its dreamy hero, Almanzo Wilder, who only wanted Laura to be Laura. Like many women, Mary later graduated to the ultimate, tall and dark bad boy, Rhett Butler, who loved Scarlett despite her flaws.

Mary has lived around the U.S., and after a first career in the non-profit world and politics, she's settled in Northern California with her husband and daughters. She spends her days writing characters she hopes somehow capture the romance of Rhett and Scarlett and Almanzo and Laura. She's a firm believer in what Rhett says to Scarlett: "You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.

My Nicki and Adam:

16 years after events in first book, Nicki works for president in White House. When intense romance with her high-school boyfriend Adam Kincaid did not work out, she moved on, concentrated on carrier and found new serious boyfriend. But now Adam is back and still interested in Nicki. Is he too late? Whom will Nicki choose? Devoted and loving boyfriend or an old flame?

It pains me to write this review beacuse writing was really good and I enjoyed previous book a lot. But this continuation of Nicki's and Adam'story didn't work for me at all. I definitely liked them better as teenagers than adults.

I knew it was really bad when I wasn't rooting for Nicki and Adam to get together. Their relationship in high school maybe wasn't serious, but it was significant for Nicki. But her reaction to Adam after seeing him for the first time after 15 yeras was quite pathetic and unbelievable. The immediate feelings she had towards Adam even though she "moved on" and planed to move in with her boyfriend were ridiculous.

I have to admit, Adam was fighting hard for Nicki. Pitty I hate love triangles. And Nicki's "feelings" were perfect example of woman caught in one. For a 30 somehting years old successful president press secretary, Nicki was for sure very childlish. Her best friend explained it perfectly:
"You can't be in love with one person while making out with another."

And the worst thing? I wasn't rooting for "hero" at all. It wasn't very romantic or noble of Adam to seek his old love flame after 15 years, because anything else did not work out and try to steal her from her boyfriend. It was such a selfish and calcualting thing to do that I could not really like Adam in this book. I was happy to reach the end of this book because overall solving of love triangle was really lame and by the end I wasn't interested at all what will happen to Nicki or Adam or other characters...

And there was this one moment that I really hated the most and it ptobably ruined the whole story for me.

So, now my rant is over. I am known for hating love triangles. But overall, Disclosure of the Heart is nicely written contemporary romance and I am sure thos who are not oppose to love triangle will enjoy it better.

Disclosure of the Heart is such an emotional journey of true love finding it's way home. No true love is never easy nor is it hard but at times it can be a journey of self discovery and realization that the heart wants what the heart wants and no one or no thing can stand in it's way. To say that this story had me on pins and needles is such an understatement because at times I loved it and at times I hated it. That is why Mary gets five million stars for me because I know what it feels like to love someone and have them only to lose them and they reappear in my life again.

This is Adam and Nicki's story that continues from Beside Your Heart. In Beside Your Heart we got to see Nicki and Adam's friendship build into a relationship that ended because Adam did something to Nicki that broke her heart. As we followed on their journey of friendship and then relationship to having nothing and seeing Nicki's heart broken it was quite the journey. Nicki had her heart broken but she was determined to have a career and that is what she did. She focused on schooling and became the Deputy Press Secretary for The President. This is a prestigious job and she has worked her ass off for it and she was able to acquire it.

Along the way to Nicki getting the perfect job she has sheltered her heart because of the hurt she experienced with Adam. With her heart hidden behind walls she slowly lets her guard down when she meets Juan Carlos. Lord I loved me some Juan Carlos because I thought he was right for her. He did not rush things and he did not push her. No Juan Carlos loved her even when at times it seemed she couldn't give him back the same thing.

Then Nicki gets the shock of a lifetime when Adam comes in as BBC's White House Correspondent. When Adam sees Nicki he knows he wants her and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get her back. Adam knows in his heart that she is the one for him and he is determined to have her back in his bed and in his arms. When he realizes she is with Juan Carlos it does not deter him from pursuing her it only makes his hackles get up and fight harder for her. The question that kept coming up for me when I realized Adam was not going to stop pursuing Nicki until he had her was why did he wait 16 years to decide he wanted her? Why go through all those girls and relationships and years and then just decide she is the one? Man I am not going to lie but that did piss in my cereal.

So in the end the lines have been drawn and the decision will be up to Nicki. Will she choose Juan Carlos or will she go back to her hearts desire Adam Kincaid?

I was excited when I got this book but then I was so nervous to start it. Mary Whitney gave us the first chapter of Disclosure at the end of Beside Your Heart in Adam’s POV. This is the thing, I was not too happy with Adam at the end of Beside Your Heart. However, I know no one can take the place of one’s true love and soul mate.

I had no idea what was going to happen in this book I started it and I am also going to (hopefully) leave it like that after you read my review. This is a book I do not want to give too much away. I want readers to read it with fresh eyes like I did. So I am just going to make some points.

#1 – If you have not picked up this series and read Beside Your Heart you need to ASAP. I picked up Beside Your Heart by complete accident and it was the best kind of accident since I ending up loving the book. Loved it so much that I talked to my friends about it for days.

#2 – I loved the heroine and I loved the hero. Nicki does not pout, whine, or complain. She is very straight forward, which may rub people the wrong way, but I loved her. She is bright and looks at things as rationally as she can. She tries to be smart about her love life and career but it is hard when the love of your life walks back into your life after 16 years. Yeah I was upset with Adam after Beside Your Heart, but even I can’t resist that British blok.

#3 – The story was beautiful. I was nervous when I started. I was tempted many times to read the last few pages just so I would know how things would end, but I did not and I am glad I had some self-control.

#4 - If love books about second chance romance…high school sweethearts who later meet in life…then you will love this one.
Mary Whitney has developed some great characters and wrote them into an amazing story. I highly recommend this series.

When David has his story, I hope he finds an amazing woman. One who challenges him, but not comes off as difficult. I think a good match for him would be someone who does not come from money (old or new). I think he should have a love interest whom has to worked hard for everything she has so that he sees the beauty in people who do not come from privileged families.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. Love it and now I will be anticipating the third book in the series.

This is book 2 of the trilogy. The story between Nick and Adam continues, and 16 years after they last saw each other they are back in each other's life. Small detail, Nicki has a latin lover boyfriend, the delicious Juan Carlos. And Adams has some fancy british lady of his own back home. This story takes place in the White House and in between press debriefs, travels in none other than Air Force One and political background we see how and if Nicki and Adam will get back together.
My love for Mary's writing is not a secret. And this adds more to it. Smart writing with intelligent and compelling characters and a fantastic plot! I cant wait for the final book and see what happens.
Full disclosure: I helped with the Juan Carlos interactions in the book, offering feedback as for language, manners and idioms. But she wrote all the magic!

MICHELLE: Sweet Lord Almighty. I don't even know how to start this. Who do I love more? Adam? Nicki? MARY WHITNEY???

Seriously- this was one of my most highly anticipated sequels this year and it exceeded all of my expectations.

PEPPER: OMG I couldn't agree more. I NEEDED this book. Sometimes with sequels, I'm like whatever- after the initial waiting period has happened. But I needed the rest of Adam and Nicki's story.

And it was amazing

MICHELLE: It really was. I started to panic. Not going to lie. When I saw that Nicki had a boyfriend I was like- oh shit. You know I hate cheating so I was just really nervous.

PEPPER: Yes, I actually thought of you in regard to that. I was wondering what you were going to think.

MICHELLE: BUT because Mary is AMAZING she handled the situation perfectly and I was able to deal with the situation because of the way she wrote it. Because Mary is a genius. Seriously- it was very well done.

PEPPER: Couldn't agree more. I mean, I think it is really hard to put a positive spin on a person with two people they are loving on at once, but it's part of life and the heart wants what it wants. In this instance it was done pretty flawlessly. And I am sure it helped that I wanted Adam and Nicki to be together so bad.

MICHELLE: That was definitely part of it for me. Adam and Nicki belonged together. No doubt.

But also Nicki (and Adam) are adults. Like real adults that deal with their feelings and emotions like grown ups. Which is amazing because when we left then in Beside Your Heart, they were young and in love but mostly young. So to meet them here, years later, and see them be the same but so mautre. It's amazing. I have to remind myself these are characters in a book.

PEPPER: I know. I just figured I was going to meet them the next time I visit you in DC. Like, hey lets go get drinks with Adam and Nicki.

MICHELLE: Seriously.

PEPPER: I just find it so mind boggling that she can write so well that we think are friends with these people in real life.

MICHELLE: Yup. And I just have to sidebar there because as a DC resident- this was me every time a place I knew was mentioned.

And don't worry- I already stalked Mary on FB to let her know how excited I got about seeing some of my favorite spots in print.

PEPPER: Haha I bet. I was even like, ooo I wonder if I saw that place when I was there!

MICHELLE: And also- I just loved what Adam and Nicki did for a living. I'm a political junkie so all that made my lady parts tremble. Plus the thought of Adam with his proper English accent reporting for BBC. SWOON!

PEPPER: I know!!! It really was fun to read up on some possible behind the scenes stuff. I am in no way a political junkie (or political anything) but it was still awesome to get some inside info - even if it was fiction.

MICHELLE: Well I know Mary was a lobbyist in her former life so she was definitely writing what she knew and a lot of the drama and scandal was accurate. And awesome. DC politics are really sexy.

So one thing I truly loved about this book is that at the core of it- it was about Adam and Nicki and their second chance. Yes there was drama and angst and all of that. But a lot of it was just them realizing that they never stopped loving each other.

PEPPER: Oh absolutely. I mean I was just totally on their team the whole time- waiting for them to make it all work.

I just LOVED it.
The whole thing.
BUT...I want more.

I needed an epilogue. It ended WAY to quickly for me

MICHELLE: I agree. When I saw that we had an ending from Adam's POV I was like

And then when I saw how little of his POV we actually got, I was like:

PEPPER: Ya, that was no bueno for me.
Oh speaking of Spanish, I loved how Adam joked about Nicki's boyfriend. It was so sweet how he just let his jealously lie out on the table.

This book was very quick witted. I read it so fast. And you know I am not a fast reader, ever.

MICHELLE: Agreed. The making fun of the boyfriend was great. And the way Nicki stood up to the girl Adam was dating at first was fantastic. I thought for sure she was going to be a problem.

Again- and I can’t say this enough- I just loved how honest and real they were. I was already so invested in their lives after book 1 and this book just made that feeling more intense. I kept trying to put it away to go be productive but I just couldn't stop.

PEPPER: Yea I finished in a few hours- rare for me. I also loved how Nicki didn't waste too much time letting Adam in her life. She denied him a little bit and there was a little fight, but she very quickly figured her shit out and I was so happy it wasn't some big, on again off again thing.

MICHELLE: Agreed, There was angst but it wasn't drive you insane, want to kill the characters angst. God I just love them both
And I thought the side kicks were perfect. Lisa was awesome.

PEPPER: OMG David was my fav character!!
I want a David book!!

MICHELLE: Yes! And I loved him in Beside Your Heart. Didn’t think I could love him more but now I am obsessed.
This is how I feel about a David book.

PEPPER: Seriously.
Can you do some MWhit convincing? I could send her some Utah truffles?

MICHELLE: Yea- we should probably just start harassing her now. Until she caves.
Or gets a restraining order. Whatever comes first.

Basically this will be us. Let the stalking commence.

PEPPER: Yup- and we’re almost as cute as those dogs, so we can probably wear her down.

MICHELLE: Totes.

Well there you have it folks. Beside Your Heart (book 1) and Disclosure of the Heart (book 2) are two of our top books of 2013. We cannot say enough good things about this series and this author. So get to one clicking. You won’t regret it.

The book I've been waiting for since the epilogue in BESIDE YOUR HEART. A fabulous story that is the continuation of Nicki Johnson and Adam Kincaid's relationship, with a fifteen year break. Nothing was easy in their high school relationship, so why would it be any different for them as adults.

Nicki Johnson is now the Deputy Press Secretary under the newly inaugurated President Logan. Adam Kincaid is the BBC's White House Correspondent. Their jobs may dictate they have a professional relationship with each other, they soon find themselves fighting their personal feelings and what kind of repercussion that could have for them and for Nicki's boss.

As teenagers, we got a glimpse of what Nicki and Adam could be. But as adults, the chemistry is so much stronger, despite the fact that they didn't jump into bed with each other. They took their time becoming friends again, forgiving the past, before their relationship turned physical. It gave them the time to build something solid that could withstand whatever was thrown their way.

I loved this story. It's one that I highly recommend, even if you haven't read the first book in the series. Mary Whitney has created the ultimate second chance love story that hard to put down.

Oh, boy this book pulls you in different directions. I loved the first book and couldn't wait to pick up the story of how they meet again.

They are both seeing other people when they meet again at a White House Press conference after sixteen years since he left for England at the end of book 1. This is a wonderful story about two people who where meant to be together, and who have learnt that even though they've been apart for so many years, the connection and friendship they once had, never really left and that the love they have for each other is just as strong.

In this book we also catch up with David, Adam's cousin, who put in an appearance in the first book and he's just as flirty as he ever was.

The author has done a wonderful job with the telling of these stories and even though there is a third book being written, I actually felt Adam and Nicki's story was complete, which makes me wonder what the author has planned for them, or if it's going to be more David's story (I hope it's going to be more David's story).

I've read the authors two political romance books and I enjoyed them just as much. Thank you for a wonderful read.

Ok So I was so excited when I saw the book had come out. I just loved the first one. The second one…… well the writing was fantastic. But to be honest there was way to much of the politics in the book for me. I understand that was the jobs of the H and h but I found myself in several pages just skimming the read. Again this is just me. I am not into the whole political thing. But the romance part of the book was good. Not happy that the h and H cheated on their boyfriend/ girlfriend. But I do love that they got a second chance. I just wished that they went about it differently, especially with the h, in book one she knew how if felt when the H had cheated on her. You would think that she would have enough common sense to not do it to someone else. Now I can not wait to read the 3rd book in the series.

Nicki Johnson is on top of her game, she has achieved a level in her career through hard work and dedication. When she should be vibrating with joy because of her achievements instead she is a bundle of nerves, in the press conference room of the White House is her old flame Adam Kindcaid.
Mary Whitney is a smart woman, she guides the reader through the halls of the White House, places us in the bowels of Air Force One all with the assurance of an insider showing the reader how two very smart people relate with each other after many years of separation. It is that, the smart and intelligent writing what keeps me wanting to read more and more of her prose. Her secondary characters are a hoot, fun, sexy and wanting to know more about them.
Get her book, actually get all her books, it is so wonderful to live in her worlds.

I'm in a very happy place atm, I loved Disclosure of the Heart.

After I read Beside Your Heart I was a sobbing mess, I needed to know what the future held for Nicki and Adam.

In Disclosure of the Heart we get all the answers and so much more...

Mary Whitney has such a wonderful way with her words. You find yourself feeling everything her characters are going through and as an avid reader I find this creates a deeper connection to the story that leaves you with a full and happy heart.

If you love contemporary romance like me The Heart series is a must read.

Thank you Mary Whitney for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Such a nice HEA! Review to come with my tour date on 11/22...

**FULL REVIEW**

“Why had he gone back to beat reporting and taken the job at the White House? Was it just because it was an exciting new presidency? Or did he care that I was there?”

Adam Kincaid has gone into journalism, BBC to be exact; and an opportunity of a lifetime has just come up. He will get to be a correspondent at the White House. Going back to America, after being in UK for the last 15+ years, Adam faces more than just a new and exciting position…there is some unfinished business in matters of the heart, and he is the last person she ever wanted to see again.

Nicole Johnson is the Executive Press Secretary for the newest President, and it’s a job she does quite well. Fielding questions, spinning news, finding answers, avoiding scandals…but with all of her experience, not once did she think that she would become the news, or the scandal.

“In the interest of full disclosure, Matt should know that I once had a personal relationship with a reporter covering the White House.”

Full disclosure. How does one actually do that when the story started so long ago? The many memories tied to Adam and Nicole’s relationship are not all good ones. Some of them, most of them actually, are downright painful. Memories that she does not want to rehash…and definitely doesn’t want to explain. But in her position, there is more at stake than just her heart.

“When we were together, he’d been my life, or at least a lifeline when I had needed it most. And then he’d broken my heart, and though he’d desperately tried, all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t have put it back together again.”

Both of them have new lives, new relationships, and powerful jobs; but neither can deny the instant pull they have toward one another. Can old lovers be friends? Can they live in the present and not dwell in the past? Can they make something work that proved to be too difficult in the past? And most importantly, are they willing to compromise everything in their lives now in order to make a go of things? How much of life is fate, and how much is really up to choice?

“It would be worth losing everything…it would be more than worth it.”

But really, who is the one that will have to give? Who is the one who will lose everything? How can two people make something work when so much stacks against them? Read, and find out!

What a great way to see how things turn out with Nicole and Adam. The way their relationship comes full circle, how they began, ended, and begin again. Whitney does a fabulous job of bringing the longing back in the here and now rooted in a painful past. The progression, the cat-and-mouse, the sexy accents (there is more than one), how politics plays a role in everyone’s lives….it was just great. I enjoyed reading and look forward to more from this author.

I really thought I was going to love this but it wasn't meant to be.
"Then he'd broken my heart, and though he'd desperately tried, all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't have put it back together again."

When I read the first book in the series, Beside Your Heart, I thought that *this* was the story I wanted. I wanted the story of their second chance, I wanted to see how they were going to get back to together. Now, whilst this book was that story, it wasn't at all how I was hoping it would be. It bored me.

Disclosure of the Heart starts off right where we left off, in the present, and Nicki and Adam are thrown back together in the working world. Nicki is working for the president and Adam is a news reporter from the BBC (freaking love this British boy ♥). They haven't seen each other in 16 years so you can imagine the awkwardness that is to come. I was looking forward to it..

The overly descriptive talk of the political stuff going on in the US, and the news reporting from Adam was FAR TOO MUCH. Obviously I expect some when this is the characters careers, but it was boring as hell. It felt like it was almost too much of the story, instead of focusing on Adam and Nicki's relationship. Their relationship itself was also a painful part of the story, because for so long I felt as though there was just nothing there. Nicki has a boyfriend at the time she meets back up with Adam, so as you can imagine, this turned in to a love triangle of sorts. Woohoo, my favourite (cue sarcasm).
"You can't be in love with one person while making out with another."

It's a real pity I didn't love this story, because I wanted to and the authors writing is actually very good. It's just the story and topic in which she chose to write about that bored me too much in the end.

Let me begin by admitting that I have not read the first book in this series, Beside Your Heart, and I regret not doing it before reading Disclosure of the Heart.

We all wonder what it would be like if only. . . There is someone in the past, whether a first love or another love that leave us wondering if we could only get back together what would it be like. Nicki Johnson gets a chance to find out in Disclosure of the Heart.

Nicki seems to have the world at her feet, working at the White House as the Deputy Press Secretary. But on that first morning, there he sat . . . Adam Kincaid, now a BBC correspondent covering the Washington DC office.

Adam Kincaid, the one that got away. Adam Kincaid, who Nicki already knows is involved with someone else, even though Adam and his girlfriend find an ocean between them at this point in their lives.

Adam had been her first love, her anchor during the storm. He’d also left her, broken hearted, even though his leaving was inevitable, it seems.

At first site, again, Nicki admits “I was seventeen again, with a scarred body and a shattered life.”

Enter Juan Carlos, the next level of complication. Juan Carlos is Nicki’s loving, wonderful “Latin lover” of a boyfriend. And we all know about jealous Latin men, as her boss points out.

Nicki has it all, a solid career, a boyfriend with whom she can envision a future . . . and then it all comes unhinged with a dance, one slow dance.

I won’t spoil the entire book, although I definitely could. I have learned to love Nicki and Adam in one volume of Mary Whitney’s Heart Series.

Ms. Whitney writes to wring every drop of emotion out of you as you read. She had me talking out loud to myself, yelling at the book’s characters, all the while hoping and praying for the ending to be what I wanted it to be, a wonderful happily-ever-after.

I give Mary Whitney Fives Stars (all gold) for Disclosure of the Heart. I will be reading Beside Your Heart before the next volume is released!

I loved this book. Nicki and Adam are made for each other. It took them 16 years to get back together but if it is meant to be it is meant to be. It was amazing how fate brought them back together. The love they shared when they were 17 was very intense and when they had to end the relationship it was heartbreaking. Nicki had to stay in Texas while Adam had to move back to England. I cried in the first book and was so depressed that their love story had to end….but it ended with a brief view of Adam at a press release on the very last page of the book!!!! Ughh…..it ended just like that and I was like NOOOOOOOO….So Mary has given us what we have asked for. However, they did not just pick up where they left off. It took them a while to work out the issues with the current relationships they were in and Nicki did everything in her power to avoid him. I thought she lost her mind. I would have ran into his arms and made a scene but hey that’s just me. Then there was also the part where they could not date because she worked for the President and he was a reporter for the BBC. I got very frustrated with Nicki at some points because she tried so hard to push him away and if she had kept pushing she could have lost him forever. Adam never stopped loving her and one look at her is all it took for him to realize he was going to fight for her. I would have loved a little bit more of a hot steamy reunion if you know what I mean. 16 years is a long time to keep up pent up sexual feelings for each other right? Otherwise, this book was great. I still think there is room for a third book and it looks like there will be one!!!!! I went through debating whether they were getting back together or not and chewing the hell out of my bubble gum. It’s not the ending you may want but I think you will like it. I can’t wait to read more from Mary and especially the next one in this series.

First I want to say a HUGE thank you to Mary for providing me with an ARC copy of this book to read & review for this blog tour in the "Beside Your Heat Series"

I fell in love but also hated Adam in the first book "Beside Your Heart". I had a love/hate relationship with him throughout the book, but in this one.....yes my love re-kindled for him :)

This is my Nicki :)

And this is my Adam :)

Finally Nicki has gotten over her "fling" with her highschool sweetheart Adam Kincaid, she's moved on to better and brighter things, she's the fricking presidents press secretary for christ's sake :)

So why when one day at a press conference, did she freeze, and shut down at the sight of her old flame Adam?

Why was he here?

What took him so long to run after Nicki?

Can the love between the two blossom again and re-kindle so we can get our HEA!?

ADAM KINCAID has finally woken up and is now facing the facts, he has lost his one true love, his best-friend.......of has he? He fights back, he's trying so hard to win Nicki's affection again..... BUTTTT

There's always complications in any romance story, this book definitely has it's fair share :)

This was another MUST read book by the author. She doesn't drag out any sordid details, nor does she make the characters any less loveable, well not to me anyway.

I like that Mary wrote and made Nick & Adam feel like they were 17 year old teenagers again, yes, this may not be to everyone's liking, but I think Mary did an awesome job <3

This story picked up were the first left off, which I love. I was left with many questions after the first book. I was desperate to find out what the future would hold. I was devastated to find that Nicki and Adam were no more. So I needed to know where the story went next.

I was not disappointed. I loved this epic love story that spanned over years. I was really sad to find out that both Adam and Nicki had moved on in there lives though. I won't give anymore spoilers away because I want you to read it.

I loved the plot of this story. Personally I think it was better than the first. But the first book was more of a flash back. I loved the setting. I also really enjoyed getting to meet beloved characters as adults. I feel like the first book should have been a YA and this book an adult, but I am a huge fan of both books and look forward to more from this author.

I can't wait for more in the story... at least I hope there is more in the story. I wanted a glimpse into the future, but I did enjoy the read and loved the romance! I am left with a few questions but I truly loved the read.

There's nothing quite as good as getting back the one that got away! That's what reading Disclosure of the Heart was like for me. When Nicki and Adam were last an item, it was in highschool. Now, more than a decade later, they've both moved on with their lives. They've become, that "one true love" from the past. (We all have them.)

But when Adam shows up as a reporter for the BBC, Nicki can't help but wonder if her second chance has come. This is an adult story with adult themes, like what do you do when your career takes you away from your relationship? And how do you handle the new love when the old love reappears. This is a story about making choices, trying to be the grown-up when you'd rather be a teenager in love again. Trying to make hard decisions that will affect the rest of your life.

Disclosure of the Heart is well written and a fun read. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys contemporary romance.

4 1/2 stars! A very grown-up sequel to the first book in this series, Disclosure of the Heart is a wonderful story about second-chance love. Nicki works in the White House, traveling with the President and in a seemingly passionate relationship with Juan Carlos. Along comes Adam, now a BBC reporter who now has a long-term girlfriend. Nicki can’t forget her first love Adam but a relationship between them now would violate lots of rules, both personal and professional. There is lots of back-and-forth between Adam and Nicki and although at times, I wanted their relationship to speed up a bit, it was actually very realistic. I was pleasantly surprised at the steam factor in this book! I loved it! Mary Whitney obviously did her research here on the politics of working in the White House. This is a very smart, sexy, adult book, and is a great conclusion to Adam and Nicki’s story!

I was given this book by author for honest review. We once again take a look into the lives of Nicki Johnson and Adam Kincaid in book 2 of this series. All grown up and several years after they’ve parted they meet at a press conference for their jobs. All of the feelings that they had when they were younger are still present and growing stronger as they discover how each has changed through the years. A thank you to Whitney for a short well written quick read that I couldn’t put down.

Mary pulls you in...and there is no "time lapse," "we had an amazing summer," it left off right where the first one ended...which I adore. For personal reasons, I love Mary...but this story...without ruining anything...I was crying...I was ready for JC to go away...and Felicity was...eh..go away...it was beautiful..

Was so looking forward to getting my hands on this book!!! Not disappointed. I love the political angle and that I could place myself at some of the District landmarks. Story was fantastic and well-written. Good to see the characters, main and secondary from Beside Your Heart as adults making adult decisions. Loved this book and am really looking forward to Adam's POV in book 3.

I honestly didn’t know how much I was going to like this book. Being just barely older than the Young Adult crowd (and technically, I still consider myself a young adult), I generally don’t read books about thirty-somethings. However, because I knew Adam and Nicki’s story from when they were in high school, it made the second book quite adorable. Because you knew all of the drama and angst from when they had to break up in High School, it was such a relief to finally see them together again.

It was nice to get away from the petty drama of high school for a change. The conflict that occurred was more serious; instead of a disgruntled ex-girlfriend cheerleader causing problems for Nicki, there were members of every major news network in the world watching her every move. Working closely for the president of the US makes life complicated for her. Especially when Adam works for the BBC and having a relationship with him is problematic.

I love that Adam initiates the contact with Nicki. I thought his pursuance of her was very cute. Although I DID NOT think it was cute they both cheated on their significant others. I didn’t like their significant others, but it was NOT ok that they were cheating on them.

I really enjoyed David (Adam’s cousin) going after Lisa. They have an entertaining repartee that is quite adorable even though you kind of want to smack him the entire time. I do have a *slight* problem with everyone being ok with David going down the line of Nicki and her friends and fooling around with them. But again, conservative side, baring its teeth.

While this has not been my absolute favorite series, I have very much enjoyed it. There were plenty of *AWWWWWW* moments between Adam and Nicki. I agree with a few reviews I have read, I feel that their story has come to a nice conclusion. I don’t know what another book in their series would be about unless it follows a secondary character. I was honestly very surprised at how much I enjoyed the jump from the first to the second book, but I thought Whitney handled it nicely. It was quite a bit shorter than I was expecting, and read extremely quickly and easily. A fun read for fans of the genre.

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary Whitney knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!

Shel: 16 years after their hearts were broken Nicki and Adam still can't seem to shake the feelings they have for each other. Nicki is in an important, high powered press position for a new President and Adam has finagled his way into the White House press corps...seemingly to cross paths with Nicki. Their first few meetings are uncomfortable and tense with all of the unspoken things that need to be said. As they (and we) learn about what they've been up to over the last decade and a half, what we really see is that they have some unresolved issues....and that's about all I will say about the plot because I really don't want to spoil anything.

Court: It would be wayyyyy too easy to spoil this one, yes? But I will say, in the beginning I was very very very very very apprehensive and unsure if the time that has went by was too much. 15 years later....which is kind of why I had this wtf moment after I finished the first book! But I will say, and let you down easy now instead of the bottom of this review...it worked. Somehow, someway...it worked!

Shel: The writing is convincing--I don't think Mary Whitney wanted us to always like Nicki and her choices and, honestly, I didn't. There were times when I wanted to call her out for her half truths and for trying to convince herself of things that she really didn't think or feel. Nicki frustrated me with her constant attempts at 'spinning' things to fit her narrative. Truthfully though, I think she frustrated me because her reactions were so real. I think many people convince themselves of things just as Nicki did because the facing the truth is often hard to do. In the truth department, Adam fared better. Don't get me wrong, he also made choices that I found questionable, but he seemed more apt to confront the tough stuff head on. Both of them provided some cringeworthy moments and I knew why they were doing what they were doing...and I wanted them to resolve their issues...I just didn't always like the way they handled it.

Court: I had an inward groan at the ideas I had for how this plot was going to pan out...at first. And yes, we called Nicki all sorts of colorful names, and wanted to throttle her this way to Sunday. But like you said, it helps the story that the writing is fantastic, because you still want to know what on earth is going to happen to these people! I had many moments of insecurity...but I came around!

Shel: I could see why someone would see my dislike for some of the characters's choices and assume that I didn't like the book but that would be a false assumption. I really enjoyed it; I like when I have reactions to a book or a character and I surely had strong feelings about Nicki and Adam. This book was easy to read and by the time I got to the end I felt that the writer's goal had been accomplished. I hear that there will be a 3rd book from Adam's point of view...I'll be interested in seeing if she moves the story forward or revisits the plot from these last two books.

Court: And this review people are why we practically share the same brain. We like the same things in our books, pretty much 99% of the time...and the paragraph above totally proves it. I totally ended up loving this book. Mary made her characters make adult decisions, with real life consequences...and nobody got away unscathed or easily. It was real, in what I would think a real relationship going through tribulations might be...if I knew anything at all about that these days, since I've been with my guy since...well forever! So it was fun, there are some fun moments, some sad ones...and many characters lessons learned. Bravo.

Shel: If you read and enjoyed the first novel, you should definitely pick this one up. Court: Yes, most definitely MUST read the first book, well...first!

Shelley: 4 Stars
Courtney: 4 Stars

**This review originally appeared on Night Reads . I received an ARC of this book from the author for the purposes of an honest review. All opinions are mine.**

I previously posted a review of the prequel to this book, Beside Your Heart, and it probably maybe kinda left a bad taste in some people’s mouths, but it was HONEST.

That being said, and with as much disappointment as I found with Beside Your Heart, Disclosure of the Heart made up for in spades. This was much more of what I was looking forward to reading in Beside Your Heart and I’m glad I took a chance at reading Disclosure of the Heart to help clear all of that up.

Disclosure of the Heart begins right where Beside Your Heart left off. Adam spots Nicki at a white House press briefing and things proceed from there.

Once again, Whitney’s writing of her characters quickly draws you into the story. Even if you’ve passed some time between reading Beside Your Heart andDisclosure of the Heart, It’s very quick to get into and I believe that Disclosure of the Heart is easily read as a stand-alone novel even if you’ve never read Beside Your Heart.

One thing that I did find somewhat disappointing however was the “love triangle” or in this case “square” that is involved in parts of the story. At the time thatDisclosure of the Heart takes place, Nicki s in a pretty serious relationship with Juan Carlos; so serious that they are contemplating moving in together. Adam is also in a long-term relationship, this time with a TV news journalist who also works for the BBC. And even though you root for Adam and Nicki to finally get together after all of these years and get that HEA they so richly deserve, I just couldn’t fathom the two of them cheating on their partners with each other, especially given their past history in dealing with the issues of cheating (read Beside Your Heart to see what I’m talking about.)

Sorry, but cheating is a hard limit in my opinion!

Other than that one issue, there were some others with transitions and story flow, spelling errors, and characters referred to by other character’s names, but since the ARC copy I received was unproofed, I’m sure these will be resolved before final publishing.

Disclosure of the Heart did much better in my opinion expanding on the story of Adam and Nicki than I thought it would, so overall I give Disclosure of the Heart by Mary Whitney a solid 4 stars.

If you'll remember, I stumbled on Mary Whitney's Beside Your Heart and absolutely loved the unique story telling. Well, Ms. Whitney is back (finally - phew!) to let us know what happened to Nicki and Adam after high school. Honestly, if you haven't read Beside Your Heart, I really won't be spoiling anything for you. It's pretty well-known from the synopsis of book one that Nicki and Adam are not together after high school.

But now, fifteen and half years later, Adam is trying to get back into Nicki's life. The big question is, will she let him in?

Disclosure of the Heart begins immediately where Beside Your Heart left off, but from Nicki's point of view (POV). Coming face to face with Adam after all these years, old feelings surface. But it's not going to be that easy for Adam. There's the whole problem of their conflicting jobs. Oh, and a very jealous boyfriend of Nicki's. It's gets pretty messy before we get to our happily ever after (HEA). But rest assured, this time around we DO get a our HEA!!!

I still love the character of Nicki! She is one strong, self-assured, and smart girl. I really enjoyed reading about her work and how she strategized continuously, even after she left the office. Her entire life seemed like one big strategy game. But she's still a romantic at heart and that came through, too.

I felt like Adam came across a wee-bit "flatter", like less of his personality showed through, than it did in Disclosure of the Heart. There were moments in the story when Nicki would notice Adam looking at her a certain way and because we only had Nicki's POV, we were always left wondering what Adam was thinking. It was like a piece of the story was missing.

And this leads me to why I rated this book a 3.5 stars. I really love Nicki and Adam and I love the political slant to this romantic story. I truly loved the story overall! But I was conflicted for days on what I was going to rate this book. It just seemed like the book was so close to being perfect, but it just missed something that would have made it "fantastic" or "outstanding". Again, I'm struggling on how to get this across - loved the story but it just missed a piece of greatness? I think it was missing Adam's POV (yeah, duh...).

I really wanted to know right then and there in the story what Adam was thinking when he had that hurt look on his face or when he was scowling over a drink. I wish Ms. Whitney had written this book in a dual POV format with both Nicki and Adam's contrasting views.

But not to fret, Ms. Whitney did save Adam's POV for a book of his own. Forever Your Heart is Adam's story and it's expected to be published in early 2014. And YES, I will be reading it!

***I received an arc in exchange for an honest review***
I don’t know if I’ll be able to put down in words how much I loved this book; if I have to be honest, I’m a little surprised myself, but this story really touched my heart and I hope I’ll be able to convey my feelings. It doesn’t happen often that I get so engrossed in a story I don’t want to do anything else but finish the book, but that’s what happened with this one.
Disclosure Of The Heart works well as a standalone, but it’s actually the sequel to Beside Your Heart. It’s the story of Nicki and Adam, who are now adults and living two successful lives in two different continents, sixteen years after their break-up in high school. Nicole works as the deputy press secretary of the newly elected president of the United States while Adam is a famous reporter for the BBC. Once he learns that Nicole will be working at the White House, he asks to be assigned to Washington as the official BBC correspondent there; he’s never really gotten over his love for Nicole and he hopes he’ll be able to win her heart back. That’s when all the drama starts because Nicole hasn’t gotten over him either and she knows she has to push him away if she wants to avoid another major heartbreak.
Like Beside Your Heart, the story is told in Nicki’s POV but I was happy to discover that the last chapter, just like in the previous book, is told in Adam’s.
Nicole has grown so much since the previous book – which is quite obvious, since sixteen years have passed – and at first it’s hard to recognize the shy, insecure girl in this new self-confident, career-oriented woman. As soon as Adam enters the scene though, the 17-year-old Nicki comes back and it’s like meeting an old friend. There she is, working at the White House for the president of the United States and still feeling giddy when Adam looks at her. But how can you blame her, when the cause of her emotional upheaval is Adam Kincaid!
I loved that their cute banter was back, even after being apart for so long. I loved that they could still talk the way they did when they were seventeen, as if time hadn’t gone by at all. Their connection is still so strong I found my heart aching at the thought of how many years they’d lost, while they could’ve been together; but then again, the time probably wasn’t right and things wouldn’t have worked out if they’d tried too hard to make it work.
Some of the side characters from the first book are back so we get to meet an older Sylvia (Adam’s sister) who’s still just as funny as she was in the first book, as well as Lisa (Nicki’s best friend) and David (Adam’s sexy cousin) and there are a few very entertaining scenes starring them.
I know I may have found a new favorite author in Mary Whitney and I can’t wait to read more from her.

Once upon a time there was a girl Nicki and Boy named Adam in the great state of Texas, See Adam wasn't from Texas he was from England. Nicki was born and raised in Bellaire,Texas. As teenagers they had a short tumultuous relationship... that relationship? Ended up badly... fast forward 16-17. Nicki? She's the White House Deputy Press Secretary. Adam? He's the BBC Reporter for the White House. What happens when the two of them cross paths again? Here is Nicki's thought. "STANDING BEFORE ME, HE WAS HANDSOME, HIS SMILE WAS CHARMING, AND HE SEEMED GENUINELY HAPPY TO SEE ME, BUT I COULDN'T RETURNED THE SMILE. I COULDN'T SAY ANY OF MY PRACTICED LINES. SEEING HIM FLOODED MY MIND WITH MEMORIES I'D LONG AGO FORGET." If She feels about Adam that way after seeing him in a press conference YOU KNOW its about to get good!... I loved Adam in the first book! He was the Hot toy every girl wanted and I love him more in this second book DISCLOSURE OF THE HEART BY MARY WHITNEY. I rooted for Nicki and love how much she grew up and got through her battles from the first book. But Adam does become a problem .. see ..Nicki? She's got a HOT Cuban boyfriend and he loves her and she loves him .. that is until Adam is back in the picture and things change...
"ADAM WHAT ARE YOU DOING? "
"TO BE QUITE HONEST, I'M NOT SURE." HE SEEMED CANDID, BUT I COULDN'T HANDLE ANY MORE AMBIGUITY. I NEEDED AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN BUGGING ME FOR WEEKS.
"WHY DID YOU TAKE THE WHITE HOUSE JOB?"
"WHY DO YOU THINK?"
"I DON'T KNOW. I CAN'T TELL."
"FOR THE RECORD, IT DEFINITELY WASN'T BECAUSE I THOUGHT I MIGHT GET SOME KIND OF SPECIAL ACCESS TO THE LOGAN ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE OF YOU."
"THAT THOUGHT REALLY NEVER ENTERED MY MIND.YOU WOULDN'T DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT."
"YOU KNOW ME WELL." HE SMILED AND PULLED ME CLOSER TO HIM - CLOSER THAN EVEN A FEW MINUTES BEFORE. THE WOOLLY SCENT OF HIS SPORT COAT DRIFTED TOWARDS ME. I COULD'VE EASILY SLIPPED INTO THE MOMENT AND RESTED MY HEAD ON HIS CHEST, BUT THAT WAS WRONG FOR SO MANY REASONS. AT ONCE, I STEPPED BACK AND ANNOUNCED IN AS FIRM A VOICE AS I COULD FIND, "I HAVE A BOYFRIEND. HERE. IN THIS ROOM. "
" I KNOW." IT CAME OUT BITTERLY,BUT HIS NEXT WORDS WERE SOFTER,"YET SURELY WE COULD BE FRIENDS AGAIN." I LOOKED AT HIM ASKANCE.
"WE WERE NEVER JUST FRIENDS."
From that point you know there is gonna be trouble! I loved the banter between them and how they overcame the past of what happened between them .. I loved his cousin David.. (who btw was a little somethin somethin one night 16-17 years ago with Nicki!) there are some emotional parts had me teary, hit my heart. But I just love love this story! I can't wait for the third book .... FOREVER YOUR HEART due out sometime in 2014! I give it 4.5 Stars!~Christina :)

**JUST BOOKED received an ARC for an honest review**

WHAT OCCURS WHEN YOU FIND TRUE LOVE ONLY TO LOSE IT AND THEN REALIZE AS TIME HAS PASS IT MAY HAVE BEEN YOUR SOULMATE?

Disclosure of the Heart begins as Nicole “Nicki” Johnson is introduce as the new Deputy Press Secretary at the first official press conference in the White House. She is nervous, but not due to the position but due to Adam Kincaid, BBC correspondent reporter in Washington DC, in which Nicole has not seen in over fifteen years. All her memories are flooding her mind and all she think about is “Here You Come Again” by Dolly Parton, because Adam reminds her of a part in the song when a man walks back into a woman’s life just to wreck it again.

“Here you come again
Just when Im about to make it work without you
You waltz right in the door
Just like you done before
And wrap my heart round your little finger...”
– “Here You Come Again” by Dolly Parton

Even though time had passed, Nicki’s broken heart never healed when Adam left her and she admits feeling upon looking at him, “I was seventeen again, with a scarred body and a shattered life.” Nicki had tried to move on as well as Adam, because they both were in relationships: Adam’s girlfriend, Lady Felicity Chambers, was an ocean apart residing in London and Nicki’s boyfriend, Juan Carlos, was constantly traveling as a campaign consultant.

Nicki’s memories kept replaying in her mind regarding a conversation with Adam before he had to move back to England.

“Nicki, will we ever speak to each other again?”

“I…don’t know…I guess never say never, but it’s kind of unlikely. Our lives are going to be very different. I mean, we really do live a world apart. An ocean apart, away.”

“Maybe, if we were living in the same city.”

“But what if…what if I was thirty-five and still single? Could I contact you then?”

“In the highly unlikely event that was the case, I’d say sure.”

“You’ve got to admit, it’s probably not going to happen”.

“Maybe, maybe not.”

Author Mary Whitney romance novel, Disclosure of the Heart, has done an AMAZING job writing a BEAUTIFUL ROMANCE. Disclosure of the Heart is the second novel in the Beside Your Heart series, but Mary Whitney is currently writing the third book in the series, Forever Your Heart, the POV story of Adam Kincaid and the last in the series due out early 2014. Also, do not miss Mary Whitney’s first novel in the Beside Your Heart series, Beside Your Heart, which started the beautiful romance trilogy.

I rate Mary Whitneys novel in the Beside Your Heart series, Disclosure of the Heart – 4.5 AMAZING STARS!
