The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood #2

Return to Poughkeepsie

Rate this book
Beckett Taylor is a murderer. His calling, his craft are destruction and intimidation—whether he wants it that way now or not. He left Poughkeepsie to keep his brothers safe, to keep Eve safe. Set up with happy lives to live, they’re better off without him, right?

But all his willpower crumbles when he hears his brother Blake’s frantic voice on the phone. An unknown enemy has moved in on his old territory, and Livia’s been taken. In an instant, Beckett knows it will take an attack only he and Eve can execute to bring her back. All his self-imposed embargoes are torn to shreds, perhaps along with the new man he’s struggled to become.

“Brother, call Eve. I’ll be there soon.”

In this emotional and action-packed sequel to Poughkeepsie, Debra Anastasia conjures a tale of love at its most raw and ragged. With Beckett and Eve, how could we expect anything less? But even when it’s messy, not magical, true love perseveres. Real love finds a way—for better or for worse until death does part.

I am mixed bag of emotions people. SO MUCH goes down in this book I have no clue where to start. We have characters set with nothing but revenge on their minds and revenge is the catalyst that puts everything in to motion.

In Return to Poughkeepsie both Eve and Beckett are separately on a mission to keep the ones they love safe and alive. Danger strikes close to home and they both find themselves in a tangled web of deceit.

Ground work is laid in the first half of the book. In the first 50% we get to see the original characters and integrated in to their stories we meet some new very interesting characters. Three of those newbies play big roles in the lives of Beckett, Eve, Cole, Kyle, Livia and Blake.

The Characters

“Loving him is a life sentence.” - Eve

January
Nothing Eve does is for naught. She always has an agenda and working for Mary Ellen as one of her “girls” is all designed to help Eve infiltrate and get answers. But getting those answers come at a price when she discovers that Mary Ellen is off her rocker.

“Can you see Jesus yet?” – Beckett

Meanwhile Beckett is off trying to get himself on the straight and narrow. He encounters a bunch of misfits that he takes in and offers legal paying jobs to. It isn’t until one of his employees, a woman named Chery, has a violent encounter with her boyfriend that has Beckett resorting to his old ways.

”I’ve got secrets of my own.”

Ryan is an undercover that is setup in the rough side of Poughkeepsie to get a pulse on what’s going in the streets. His job calls for him to come across as a shady cop to get close to criminals however Ryan has his own agenda. Revenge runs heavily in his veins. Meeting Eve was never part of his plan but it was top priority in hers.

“Lick. Bite. Blow.” -Blake

All hell breaks when Livia is kidnapped; Blake makes the one call that he knows will up his chances of ever seeing his wife again. He calls his brother. Beckett.

BOOK HIGHLIGHTS

- Hands down EVERYTHING involving “Angry Trish” will make you piss your pants in laughter.

- Just about EVERY scene with Beckett and Eve are EXPLOSIVE

I will be honest I once again found myself having a hard time trying to figure out how to rate a book. For me personally I was completely thrown off by one of the characters and…well that persons whole reason for…being. Aside from that the writing was good.

Debra Anastasia brings us these two dynamic characters (Eve and Beckett) both are emotionally broken and the love they have for one another is the only thing that is certain. Both are violently passionate and that passion jumps off the pages; readers are sure to enjoy it!

I think there was a flex of muscle in this book as Anastasia shows off her comedic writing chops. There was a character who we barely meet yet what they do in the book makes an impression on readers left and right. Which I for one thought was GENIUS. Damn, I hate when I can’t give good details without spoiling the story. *shake my head* Oh well, READ THE BOOK!

Now, before I let you go I really want to talk about the fact that it’s possible for some readers to get confused during the story, however it is important to keep reading. Things are revealed in due time. Once again we have multiple story lines all coming together building in to an arc that sends one character over the edge. AHHHH, okay shutting up now.

My Rating and Why
I gave Return To Poughkeepsie 4 stars because I managed to fall back in love with this set of characters all over again! I don’t recall there ever being a dull moment either. If you loved Poughkeepsie you will definitely love this!

My Ratings
Characters- Sexy, Lovable, Sweet, Crazy and Complex
Writing Style- Witty, Strong and Intense
Plot/Storyline- Told in multiple pov’s we get Beckett Taylor as the main character, he was a notorious king pin among other things in Book #1. In this book he is brought back to Poughkeepsie to help his family.
Steam Factor- High/Very Steamy on a scale of 1-10 I say 7.5
Overall- I enjoyed the book!!
My Recommendation: READ IT!!

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

5 I L♥VE Beckett stars!

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to read Return to Poughkeepsie. After reading book one last year, I was blown away. I fell hard for Blake, Cole, but most of all, a killer named Beckett! I am happy to report that Beckett’s book lived up to my expectations! It was fantastic! Return to Poughkeepsie was intense, steamy, suspenseful, funny and just an all around amazing read! Although the focus of the book is on Beckett and Eve, all six of these main characters have a large part of the story.

After all thats been said and done, Beckett is on a mission. A mission to be a better man. For his brothers, himself, but most importantly, for Eve. He needs to be the kind of man she deserves. And he won’t stop trying until that happens. After being on the run and facing some crazy times, Beckett finds a place to settle down, make some positive changes and hopefully, one day, be able to come back to Eve a changed man. But does Beck really need to change? Eve loves the man he is. They get each other. They work.

Beckett and Eve have a tumultuous relationship. It’s full of pain and heartache. They are both such strong characters. It takes a while for them to come together, but it’s well worth the wait. When there together, it’s scorching hot! Intense, demanding and primal. Even though Beck went through so pretty big changes in the book, he was still himself and I loved that. Beckett and Eve are two of my favorite characters and I can’t wait to get more of their story!

Blake and Livia are a happily married couple with a family they love and cherish. Blake knows how lucky he is. How far he has come over the years. He was once homeless, lost, and fearful. Now he has a beautiful wife, two lovely children, a home to call his own. Livia and Blake are together and happy. I adore the two of them together and the love they have for one another is a beautiful thing!

Blake is much stronger than he is given credit for. When something traumatic happens to Livia, he is expected to take a backseat. He can’t do that. He has to protect his family, make his wife safe. He has to try. I LOVED the way that part ended up... Blake- you are my hero! I will never forget Blake and the counting of the smiles. It makes my heart happy and I tear up just thinking about it.

I felt like the biggest baby ever reading Kyle and Cole’s story. I cried. More accurately, I sobbed. It gutted me. I could relate to everything this couple went through and it was heartbreaking. They love each other so deeply, they’ve made it through so much, but what they’re going through is killing Kyle. Cole feels helpless. All he can do is hope and pray and be there to support her. Kyle feels depressed, guilty and lost. Fertility issues are so hard and they can put even the most solid of couples through the test. Luckily, Kyle and Cole are strong. I liked them both in Poughkeepsie, but this book made me love and respect them both so much more. I was happy with the way their story ended.

There were a few other characters worth mentioning apart from the main six...
Mary Ellen

What a crazy bitch of a villain. There is not much more to say about her... she was a serious nut job and I’m very glad with how things worked out in the end for her.
Ryan

Ryan is a cop. He’s a cop for a reason. He’s always wanted some sort of revenge for the man who he thinks killed two people close to him. Beck. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him at first, but by the end- loved him! And all the antics his psycho ex-girlfriend did brought some major laughs to the story. That woman was a lot nutty, but very creative! I hope to get more Ryan in the next book!

Overall, Return to Poughkeepsie is a wonderfully written story with characters I absolutely adore. It keeps you on your toes. Once you start this book, you will not want to put it down! Debra Anastasia’s writing is something else! She is one of my favorites for a reason- her characters are complex, her writing style is perfect and she knows how to tell a story. Her books are always hilarious, steamy, and suspenseful. I would highly recommend this book, and Poughkeepsie to anyone looking for an emotional, action packed, comical and refreshingly good read!

4ish stars

While I enjoyed catching up with the brothers, one brother was MIA for way too long. Once he showed up at 50% things started moving a much better pace. Add in Debra's unique humor and this book was a solid read.

My favorite parts

*Trish - Ryan's jaded ex, I would not want to be on the receiving end of her fury. lol.

*Beckett and all his little rescue missions, especially Gandhi.

*Blake playing daddy.

*Cole and Kyle - Their struggle broke my heart.

*Ryan - I really like him...

Return to Poughkeepsie didn't really read as simply Beckett and Eve's story, you get a ton of different POVs. It lagged a bit at times, but overall, I enjoyed it.

"I love you, Eve. You're the only heart I have."

Well, we "Return to Poughkeepsie" to see what the brothers are up to. We heard this is supposed to be a Beckett and Eve book but...it's so much more.

Likes:

• Beckett and Eve - Wow, just wow. They were everything you thought they would be...and more. Explosive describes them in more ways than one! And badass ...shesshh, they take the cake on that!

description

• I know, I know, this is suppose to be a Beckett and Eve book and at first, I was sort of mad that there was so much time invested in the other characters but it really is sooo wonderful.

• Blake and Livia...I didn't think I could love Blake anymore than I already did but what he did for Livia was amazing! And then the bath and the penguin pajamas...Lucky and Sin. ~sigh~

• And to not be outdone, we have Cole and Kyle and their own personal demons. I never really warmed up to Cole before but the letter...OMG! and then hearing his history...how could you not fall for him? I hope things work out for them...it's really emotional. (beware)

• Ryan...I'm not even sure how he managed to worm his way into my heart. Well, I know how he did it, it was just so unexpected! And I don't know how I feel now...definitely conflicted!

• Trish...OMG, so hysterical. I knew that DA was funny but she just blew the whole angry ex out of the water!

• Eve's father, Dr. Ted Hartt, he is just the sweetest man.

• Gandhi...I love him with Beckett!

• Chery, Vere and Chaos...definitely some sad ~ and tender ~ moments. I was extremely upset over one part but I like how things turned around. I'm looking forward to seeing how things go from here.

• I loved all the multiple POVs. It was so great to get all the different insights!

• The book ends great and then lookie, lookie what have we here? An excerpt for the next book! Whatever you do, DO NOT read it! You've been warned!

description

Dislikes:

FIVE YEARS?? 'Nuff said. Well, that's not true. WTH? Seriously, I could buy a year maybe and then when we get the 'sort of' explanation....it's just not good enough!

• Mary Ellen...Ugh! and her brother, Primo, and her gross father, Rodolfo. Such great villains though.

• I was sooo anxious reading this book...it kept me on the end of my seat because so many crazy things happen!

• The Livia situation.

• The Cole and Kyle situation.

• The Ryan situation.

• The Chery situation.

• Shark creeps me out too!

Overall:

I'm thrilled with how the book turned out. I'm glad we got more of the brothers and essentially, the family. Everything just works so well together! I really hope the next book continues on that same route even though I made the mistake of reading the excerpt. Too bad I don't listen to my own advice!

Favorite quotes:

❤ “You’re mine now. You gave up. Know that. You could have killed me. Now nothing will stop me.”

❤ “Do you mind? Can I pray?”

“Of course. You know I love when you and Jesus dance.”

❤ "Lick. Bite. Blow."

❤ "I love you, Eve. You're the only heart I have."

❤ “The beautiful brunette removes her wine-stained robe for her lover. And is it? Yes, dear God, yes it is. She’s wearing the penguin pajamas.”

❤ “Got to shake the wrinkles out of these bastards. They’ve been in jail all morning.”

❤ “When I’m not with you, I’m wishing I was.”

And with that, the tension snapped and a whirlwind began.

“Come here to me,” Beckett demanded in a gravelly voice. He pointed to the spot in front of him. “Come here or run, because the next choice you make will be for the rest of your life.”

Return to Poughkeepsie picks up right were Poughkeepsie left off. This time the focus of the story is on Eve and Beckett, two badass, tough unflinching individuals who've built almost impenetrable walls around their harts and who've perfected their skills at fighting and killing people. Although the main focus is on Eve and Beckett, the story is divided over the three main couples: Eve and Beckett, Blake and Livia, Cole and Kyle.

♦♦ This review contains minor SPOILERS for those who haven't read book 1 yet. ♦♦

Violence is and has always been a huge part of Beckett's life. It's how he's ruled Poughkeepsie all those years and how he was able to gain respect from everyone around him. For Eve though, he's willing to become a better man. He hates seeing what she's become and that he was ultimately responsible for it.

"His heart overflowed with good intentions but his fists felt best covered in blood."

I have to say, I already LOVED Beckett and his wicked sense of humor in book one and seeing how his softer side becomes more pronounced throughout this book only made me love him more. And Eve is one of the strongest, toughest heroines I've ever come across. She's been through so much already yet it seems like nothing can ever bring her down.
"Look at you. I want to build things for you, give you a reason to be soft. Give you a reason not to reach for a fucking gun when you open your eyes."

I do have to say that I wished their would have been more focus on the two of them together. I understand that they both had to go through a lot of self-discovery before coming at peace with who they were and what they wanted out of their future. I just wish they wouldn't have taken over 88% of the book to get to that place where they're finally on the same page. Once they do though their passion and love for each other is explosive and all consuming.

"I love you, Eve. You're the only heart I have."

♦♦ Blake & Livia ♦♦

"Loving Livia had changed his DNA. There was only her and him. There wasn't one without the other anymore."

*sigh* Blake and Livia are still my favorite couple. It's unreal how far they've both come since the beginning of book one, especially Blake. They have the perfect, happy marriage with two little kids and he's found a solid job working on his music. When Livia gets kidnapped, Blake stays calm and strong instead of losing his mind in panic. Livia has given him the strength to become a much stronger and confident person and it's amazing to see how they both keep saving each other and supporting each other no matter what.

"Sometimes you can save someone's whole world just by smiling at them. Kindness is one of those things that has immense value to the person experiencing it."

♦♦ Cole & Kyle ♦♦

Finally, there's also Cole and Kyle. Still madly in love, they've both grown a lot over the years and even though their marriage is still strong and stable, they're also experiencing some troubles that could lead to cracks in their solid foundation. Namely, fertility issues. Over time they begin to weigh heavily on their relationship BUT Cole is always there to consolidate and support Kyle. He's her rock and she's still his saving angel. The fact that they didn't let their troubles consume them, made their relationship all the more powerful and beautiful.

♦♦

I think the book could have done without all the extra POV's from Mary Ellen, her father, Shark etc. but that's just a minor complaint. Overall I really enjoyed this sequel! Maybe not quite as much as book one, but it was still a really great continuation of the story. It made me laugh out loud countless times (especially the scenes where Ryan's crazy ex Trish shows just how far she's willing to go to get his attention) and the action scenes and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I'm already looking forward to much more of the Brotherhood in the next part of this series! :)

fasten your seatbelt 'cause its gonna be one hell of a ride..

I don't know what to say. I'm on the edge of my seat all throughout the story. Its a scary feeling yet I don't want to stop reading 'till the end.
In book one I felt heart broken for Beckett to part ways with Eve and set her free to protect both their loves ones against their enemies and now we get their own book, I'm happy and ecstatic to read this. I've been waiting for one and a half year for their HEA, its a total killer.

Even though the blurb states that Beckett is a murderer he is not per se an "anti-hero" 'cause what he'd done was heroic. He's like Robin Hood of some sort, doing the wrong things for the right reasons for his brothers and their families.
Even though letting go of Eve was the most difficult he has done, he thought it was for the better, he'd worked to straight his life and live normally as he promise to her to be a better man worthy of her. Eve was never to change again to make her life normal, after all its Beckett who accidentally took all she loved before that was what made her a lethal killer, she was a cold blooded assassin and no one can get pass through her.

I really thought of the opposite, I thought Beckett will end up doing all sorts of nasty stuffs, doing what bad boys do but he really manage it with the prayers and words from Blake and Cole. He'd help other people too. I love the way that he saves other people's lives and have a dog. I love those moments in the book. and I love Gandhi hahaha that dog is something, those parts of him was hilarious. Glad that Beckett found some friends when he was away from everybody.
And Eve still doing what she's capable of, danger is on red alert in Poughkeepsie after Mary Ellen wanted some revenge over her ex lover. Eve was the only one who could protect her love ones and to get close Intel to that she needs to get closer to the enemy.

This is a tricky book to rate because the plot is loaded with twist and turns.
A set of new ones are introduce yet Blake and Livia, Cole and Kyle still have more amounts of pages in this book. Yes, I'm complaining because Beckett and Eve doesn't meet much or collide each other lives most of the time and that what breaks me most. They do get most of the pages but more on saving and killing people. I'm Happy that Mouse is still part of the story. *sidenote*My favorite chapter is 17 because it was dedicated to my favorite character from book one, I cried over that scene.

What I love about this series is it's full of action, left and right killing spree ala Quentin Tarantino style. They were true nightmares! you can just imagine the gory details.

I don't know how to feel about Ryan Morales. I do like him, he's a good guy but he doesn't fit into the puzzle that is Eve and of course I'm team Beckett all the way, not that some love triangle is going on but nothing to worry about it right now maybe

Beware of Vindictive Exes!
Trish and Mary Ellen both want revenge to their ex lovers.
I love Trish better, she's hilarious and very creative on being a pain in the neck to Ryan all the time. It brought glee in the story.
Mary Ellen on the other hand is such an annoying stupid biatch, she can't even handle a simple revenge towards Sevan, she's a daughter of a mobster and even her servants can't tolerate her. she always put her butt on the frying pan if not for Eve to save her on some events.

I want more of Beckett and Eve time , I think there's more to say about their love for each other on , that deep emotional pull is still swirling over their head and it hasn't poured on them yet. But I'm glad they got together for now...

“So what are we, Bonnie and Clyde?” He titled his head with the question.
“They were fools who got trapped and died.” She straddled him.
“Romeo and Juliet?” He found his place inside her quickly, ready for her like a machine.
“Dramatic assholes. Also wound up dead.” She began rocking, reaching a hand behind her to grab him.
“Oh, God.” His eyes fluttered into his head briefly before he returned to their conversation. “No one gets out alive, killer.”
“Then we can be Eve and Beckett.”

3 stars!

description

For the most part, I liked it. And with a 200% certainty, I can say I liked this book more than the first. So why is it that book 1 got a 3.5 star rating and book 2 only gets a rounded up 3 star one?

Aside from the problems in the spoiler tag, I think fans of the first book will really like this second one. Definitely action-packed, full of tension, and an enviable strong sense of family. This was one of the few times I actually liked the heroine more than the hero. Eve is one feisty, resilient and kickass woman!

Located on the banks of the Hudson River, approximately 90 miles north of New York City, lies the scenic town of Poughkeepsie. A town which is home to three brothers, bonded not by blood, but by their circumstances, their past and their destiny. "Return to Poughkeepsie" is the continuing story of Blake, Cole and Beckett’s lives, their growing families and their romances.
description
All I can say is WOW - this story is chock full of action and there is never a dull moment. Continuing the original story line from “Poughkeepsie”, with added characters and plots, “Return to Poughkeepsie” is a riveting tale. Caught my full attention from the first line to the last word.

Blake and Olivia

description

I enjoyed taking a glimpse into Blake and Livia’s marriage and their beautiful family. Livia's focus now are her children, but she always finds the time for husband, passion and romance. Their love is true and became stronger over the years. Blake’s character is vastly different than the man were first introduced to. Well, he is still the sexy, green eyed hunk I fell in loved with from the moment he appeared on the train station platform. However, Blake evolved into a strong-willed man whose main focus is providing for and protecting his family. He is a career musician. He no longer fears the sun, he basks in it. He is a perfect lover to his wife, a loving father to his children and always loyal to his brothers. Blake proves his ultimate strength when the unimaginable happens and Livia’s life is threatened, setting panic and fear into all of their lives. Blake conquers his fears, proving he is a brave man and a true hero.

Cole and Kyle

description

Cole and Kyle, although madly in love with each other, have fallen on difficult times. Trying to start a family has not come easy, and these two have suffered such emotional pain. My heart goes out to them, fertility issues can absolutely test the strength of a marriage. But Cole, forever faithful to his belief in God, manages to hold their bond together and prevents Kyle from totally falling apart. Hope is on the horizon for them, that is Cole’s prayer, and he will stop at nothing to make it their reality.

Beckette “Beck” and Eve

description

Beck, a man without a home. Exiled from his beloved Poughkeepsie and living life as a fugitive. Beck is forced to roam and plant new roots in Maryland. His only true companion now is a dog named Gandhi. Beck starts his life anew as an average man earning an honest living while vowing to become a better man worthy of Eve’s heart. It take five long years for Beck to return home, but he is a changed man. Summoned back to help his brothers in need, Beck reluctantly turns back to his old ways. But, his character is more human & less nefarious. He has changed for the better & worthy to reclaim his girl.

description

description

“I love you, Eve...I want to make love to you, without pain, I want to make love to you, the woman I just watched dreaming...I want to build things for you, give you a reason to be soft. Give you a reason not to reach for a fucking gun when you open your eyes.”

“...I’m not worth your heart yet, but I’m gonna be. Eve, the next time you see me, I’m going to be a man worth it.”
Beckett’s course personality shines through brilliantly. He is hysterical - the phrases that come out of his mouth crack me up.

“Arm yourself to the teeth of your balls.”
“No way, oh cadaverous one. Get your own monster bitch. She’s with me till the end.”
“Pinch your fucking nipples or I’ll cut them off.”
Beck, he has got a poetic way with words.

description

Eve, by far, was my favorite character is the story.

description

I love a badass, tough girl who takes no shit and stands up for herself. That’s Eve, a no-nonsense woman who is totally fearless. Her character becomes darker and more lethal in this story. Life becomes nothing more than surviving one heart ache after another. She has endured years sadness and loneliness without Beck, and has grown more ferocious towards those she considers her enemies. And her list of adversaries is long. I admire her tenacity and her sense of vigilante justice. This girl has balls.

description

When these two lovers mate, it is brutal, primal and animalistic. An erotic display of two alphas battling for supremacy. Their love making is absolutely barbaric and intense....involving biting, strangling, scratching, pushing, clawing, pulling - the aftermath looking like a crime scene...yowsa! It takes most of the book for Eve and Beck to get their groove on, but it is worth the wait.

description

We are introduced to some new characters...

Ryan
description
A good cop haunted by the demons from his past (a road which leads back to Beckett) and tortured by a crazy ass girlfriend who is driving him insane. He makes the mistake of falling for Eve, but that doesn’t quite work out for him. Poor guy is plagued by bad luck in all areas in his life - personal and professional. I hope to see more Ryan in the next installment, or perhaps get his own book with a happily ever after included.

Maryellen
description

What an insane bitch. Maryellen is a conniving, wicked witch who created bedlam in Livia, Eve, Blake, Dr. Hartt, Ryan and Beckett’s lives - turning their world upside down. Everything she touches turned to shit and she left only devastation in her wake. She's a Botox filled venomous viper and I longed to see her painful demise. Being set on Eve’s sights...I was not disappointed with the results of her downfall.

Debra Anastasia’s “Return to Poughkeepsie” is a well written, meticulously detailed story involving some of my favorite storybook characters. I loved catching up with the happenings of their lives while having some laughs, enjoying sizzling erotic scenes, and bitting my nails during the tense, dark moments. Although there is no major cliff-hanger, there are definitely loose ends to tie up. I look forward to what is store in the upcoming sequel.

I am rating this book 3.5 stars. The main reason for this rating is that my expectations for this book were not what I received. It doesn't mean that the story was bad, it is just not what I had hoped for when I cracked it open.
First of all, Eve and Beckett were my favorite couple in book one. Anyone who read that book knows that this couple literally were explosive when they got together. "Return to Poughkeepsie" promised in the blurb a storyline about these two. We get them..but lets just say that for the first 87% of the book they are pretty much rarely together. I felt let down that most of the story didn't include these two firecrackers together. I realize that both Eve and Beckett had some major self growth to do on their own; but I was under the impression that this story was going to be part of that journey, as well as a journey of them in a relationship. Now, in saying all of that..I feel the need to at least let readers know what this series is like before investing in it. Please don't get me wrong, as I think it is an awesome series. I am quite invested in the characters, and I will see it through to the end. Now that I know the style of the storylines I won't be expecting a love story between two people; because that is not what this series is.

The first 50% of this book deals with a lot of the crew from the first book. We get to catch up with Blake &Livia, Cole & Kyle, Beckett & Eve, and a whole slew of new characters too. I do admit that I found the first half a bit on the boring side. I had trouble drumming up the desire to read it; but that was mainly because of my expectations.
The second half of the book began to pick up. Once I became accustomed to what was going on, and that this story is more of a story about multiple lives then I went with it. I was glad I did, because lots went on and it became very interesting. There were some majore events that took place. Some were heartbreaking, others were sexy, and there were some very heartwarming ones as well. I loved being back in the Poughkeepsie world, and reconnecting with all of the old characters. I can say this, their lives are never dull; but the one thing that they all have in common is that they love fiercely and with all of their heart and souls. Family comes first, and the men fight to protect what is theirs-no matter what it takes, or who needs to be plowed out of the way to make it happen.

A lot goes on in this world, and it is a series that I do highly recommend. I just would like to be clear on the type of story it is. Debra Anastasia is an author who I enjoy reading her work. I look forward to checking out some of her backlist, as I do love her style. I understand that there will be a third book in this series, and I will absolutely be reading it. Now that I know there are multiple storylines, and the story isn't reserved for just one couple..then I am positive I will enjoy myself way more. I am also happy to say that there wasn't a huge cliffy; but there is enough going on that I can't wait until the next book comes out!

Thank you to my Buddy's: Shanna and Steph for another wonderful Buddy Read! I always enjoy our BR and I can't wait until the next one we have! Hugs to you both♥

Return to Poughkeepsie was one book that I had in my must read list. I had a very very high expectations especially after seeing the blurb was on Beckett!

 photo Tangled.gif

But, I needed to

 photo tumblr_me3ocvLMpp1ryb0hd.gif

As there was less of Beckett, more new characters that I really didn't care about and a gap of 5 years!

 photo Jzv9bWb.gif

But, It was heartwarming to see how Blake and Livie's relationship has grown. And their love for each other is simply so strong. Finally, Beckett and Eve came in picture and I was happy.

It was nice journey if you don't expect Beckett to be the hero. Perhaps the blurb should have written in a different manner.

Will I Recommend? Difficult to Answer <3 If you are looking for continuation of Blake's story, YES!

My Beckett and Eve:

3.5 STARS
"His heart overflowed with good intentions but his feasts felt the best covered in blood."

Such a damaged life, yet such a strong person.
Such a flowed person, yet a lovable man.
Such a rough man, yet he would do anything for the ones he loves.
That is Beckett Taylor.

Beckett's story, his self-loathing and sadness broke my heart. His situation is the most difficult one among the brothers we got to know in previous book, his life is the most complicated one. Can this selfless and self-sacrificing man ever find peace and be with his loved ones?

I loved how direct, funny, entertaining Beckett could be. The things that came out of his mouth were hilarious. This book is worth of reading just because of Beckett himself!

Various new characters were introduced in this book. Author spent a lot of time expressing their feelings, telling their background stories. Yet I never warmed up to these new additions. Detailed stories of new supporting characters did not really have added value to overall story in my eyes and book lost its spark comparing to the first book.

Readers still get to see what is happening with lives of all three brothers but Eve's & Beckett's story was definitely the most interesting part of this sequel. Imagination and story building skills of this author are astonishing. So even though I didn't love the direction this book took, I was hooked all the time.

Return to Poughkeepsie may not be my favourite book by Debra Anastasia but it is a definite must-read for all Poughkeepsie fans and all fans of Debra's writing style.

5+ Incredible Stars!!!

Wow! Books like these, are the reason that I have my exclusive 10 STAR list! That was like watching a Quentin Tarantino movie in my head! I have no words! LOVED IT!!!!

Once again, I am stumped on choosing the words that are worthy enough in aiding to describe this book, this series, everything!

Is it totally romance? Um, no. And you will find that some other reviews on here will tell you that they were disappointed in the book because of this. That is fine. We are all entitled to our opinions. Beckett and Eve do spend the majority of the book apart. Did this detract from my overall reading experience and enjoyment of this book? Umm, hell to the fucking NO!!!!! This book rocked my world!!!

I was completely entertained from the very first page to the last word! There were so many heart-pounding moments that I was afraid to put it down. It will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! This book is not predictable in any way, shape, or form!

 photo 7914738_zps75173228.jpg

 photo 9238780_zps017e126a.jpg

RTP begins just months after the end of the first book. Beckett has walked away from Eve because he wants to make himself a better person. Someone who could be worthy of her love and respect. He's in a low place in his life. Alone. Regretful. Lonely. He attempts coming home to check in on his brothers and maybe...possibly, on Eve as well, only to find out that she is now living in Las Vegas. So what does he do? Well, he has to know if she still wants him the way that he wants her, so of course, he goes and pays her a little visit. And OMG, that scene alone earned the book like 2 or 3 extra stars for me. It was explosive, hot, passionate...wonderful!!!!!

 photo 3328368_zps6884bc71.jpg

"I think you love me with your hate. I want you to love me from the same part of your heart that loved David. I'm asking too much- I know that. I'm not worth your heart, yet, but I'm gonna be. Eve, the next time you see me, I'm going to be a man worth it." -Beckett

"Just make sure you come back, Beckett. I'll go crazy if you don't"
-Eve

 photo 6502262_zpsc3e37d46.jpg

And so it begins, Beckett is off trying to make himself honorable, while Eve is trying to lead a normal life and wait. But, err... this doesn't go so well for either of them. Why? Because Beckett's life and dealings have earned him, and therefore his loved ones, a whole mess of enemies!! Enter, a whole bunch of new characters like Mary Ellen (that is one crazy bitch), Chery, Vere and Ryan....Oh' Ryan I feel for you I really do!! And Ghandi, loved Ghandi!!

Beckett tries to stay away...continue his efforts towards an honorable life, but eventually, he gets pulled back in to the madness!

 photo 7914739_zps0de8fa71.gif

At the same time, we also get to spend plenty of time with our beloved characters from book 1 like Livia, Blake, Cole, and Kyle.

So many delicious ingredients here that really, the less I say, the better this review will be. Just please go read this series!! If you've ever listened to me before, listen to me now! You won't be sorry!

Beckett is my #1 all time book boyfriend EVER!!!!!!! EVER! Just read some of his poetry...

"Beckett Taylor. Make sure your gates can open wide enough to fit my giant balls. You're torturing a woman in there who's mine."

"I was dead without you. Every day."

"I love you, Eve. You're the only heart I have."

"No way, oh cadaverous one. Get your own monster bitch. She's with me till the end."

FRIENDLY WARNING:
Don't read that sneak peak to 'Saving Poughkeepsie!' It changes the ending to a total cliffy!

Now I am desperate for the third book!!!

"I love you, Eve. You're the only heart I have."

I just loved catching up with all my favorite characters from Poughkeepsie!

Unfortunately, this sequel had way too many povs pratically ever character in the book has a pov (Shark, Mary Ellen, Mary Ellen's Dad, come on). The five year jump annoyed me (the two sisters in Maryland life...lame) and sadly, I dragged through some portions of the story.

On the bright side, I loved Beckett, Ryan, Cole and Blake's pov and recommend going forward that the author just stick with the main players in the story.

Unexpectedly, I fell in LOVE with Ryan Morales and he better get more than Trish(crazy but hilarious) and/or a broken heart.

As for Papa Bear of the group, Beckett he was all sorts of wonderful! Beckett and Ryan Morales stole the show for me and I'm still on fence about what a happy ending looks like for Eve.

"Only you understand the me that's left."

Looking forward to saving Poughkeepsie in book 3!!

The feelings… I’m feeling all the feelings dude.

I’ve been waiting for his book since, well, since I read Poughkeesie back in May. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you can tell I’m obsessed with my Cavemama, I love Debra to bits, and I’m admitting this because no, I’m not biased.

So, I start the book, and then I’m like

Midian Sosa is starting
Dear Lord of all things holy I'm going to DIEEEE
.

Then…

Midian Sosa is 5% done
Yup, won't be able to put this down. I won't.

And then I get to a part a BANG! I see my name in the book
Midian Sosa is 16% done
Shout out to ME!! *squeals*

And I’m all like

This woman has made my year in more ways that I care to admit, this woman is amazing! One of the things I like the most about Debra is that she becomes a friend to her readers, in fact, she doesn’t call them fans, she calls them friends, she’s that awesome.

I have told everybody and their mama that my favorite brother is Beckett, because he is tough, loyal, smart, brave, and a goofball lol

description

This book’s focus is Becket and Eve, badass as all hell Eve, I mean, this woman would chop the devil’s balls and walk away without a care.
We get an insight as to why Beckett let her go on book one, we get to see how he struggled to do so, we get to see how much he does love her, because his love for her is breathtaking you guys, he would do ANYTHING for her, he would care for her, and you might think she doesn’t need it, she’s a badass after all, but she does, Eve has been through hell and back.

description

We got introduced to new characters, and my favorite would be me of course lol.

I loved Ryan Morales, I won’t spoil his part on the book, but mother of God… He is awesome, and hot, and awesome.

description
And we also know about Ryan’s ex, Trish, I wanted to skin the psycho bitch, fuck.

We get know about Mary Ellen, guys, I wanted her dead sooo bad. This bitch is such a psycho.

Midian Sosa is 57% done
This Mary Ellen bitch is a psycho and I HATE HER and WANT TO CHOP HER INTO TINY LITTLE PIECES AND FEED THEM TO THE PIGS!! :@

Midian Sosa is 60% done
This bitch is giving an ulcer for fuck's sake!!! GGRRRRRR

Cole & Kyle, oh God… I wanted to die a thousand deaths with them, Cole is too damn perfect! My friend Gloria has the biggest crush on him, she’ll cut a bitch who claims him lol.

Btw, Blake keeps being his perfect, gorgeous and glorious self, the amazing bastard. And Emme, omg, the kid is brilliant, reminds me a lot of my niece Ayleen lol.

I loved this book so much, as you might know, Debra’s writing is sick, that woman has talent, and an imagination to rule the world (when she does I want to be on her team).

This book has everything, drama, ACTION, an amazing story line (very movie like), it has passion, and it was FUNNY as all hell, I was cracking up with my boo Beck and the banter between the characters is amazing.

As I said before, Debra Anastasia is my favorite author of 2013, and probably of all time lol

And now I’ll have to grill her ass so we can get book 3 soon *fingers crossed*

I was struggling on how I was going to rate this book. Poughkeepsie was a lovely story and I remember everything about it. I was shocked that while reading Return to Poughkeepsie, that I was remembering everything from the previous book. Anyhow, there is so much going on in this book. SO MUCH. I would love to rate this book 4 stars because I really did enjoy this book. I loved getting into Beckett's head and Eve's. But I had a couple of problems with it that made me not give it 4 stars.

One of my biggest problems are multiple POV's in books. I don't mind having a couple but, when you give me too many I start to lose focus on all of the characters, and who is POV I am in. This book had 10 POV's. I was having a hard time there several times figuring out who POV I was in.

I thought this book was going to be in the brothers POV, I would have loved that a lot better. Even the girls POV was okay here and there but not as much as I gotten. I was getting every single thought process from every single character I feel we went into contact with.

I adore Blake and Livia. These two are the main ones to me that got me to love the first book. I was happy I got to see how their life from Poughkeepsie to this came. It was a nice having them back.

Cole and Kyle, I could have went with or without having them so much in the book. I like Cole but not as much as I do with the other two brothers.

Beckett and Eve. WOW I wanted this whole book to be nothing but them. Honestly I love, Beckett. He won me over in the last book. He won me even more in this one. Eve is a badass bitch, that is all I am going to say on her. She's awesome and I love her.

Ryan, I don't like him. He is just blah to me in the book. I do not see why he was such an important character to be in his head so much. He was just a cop that I did not care for. I get the connection towards the end but still I did not feel it was necessary to have him.

Mary Ellen, Chery, Rodolfo. Those POV's could have been cut off for sure.

I hate that I am pointing out each and every POV that I did not like but, OMG it made the book so much longer then it needed to be. It would have been so much better to me if they did not have their own POV.

“I find myself thinking about you instead of plotting. It’s like a relief. And I know you’re not mine. And I know you’re fucking deadly. But I just want to, like, hug you.”

 photo PicMonkeyCollage_zpsbaa4efd9.jpg

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. I am happy that I finally got the brothers back. I loved how I was kept on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. I am looking forward to what is going to happen next in the 3rd book. Seems like shit is going to hit the fan again and can't wait to be on the other side reading it.

I'm at a loss here... I just finished this book and my first thoughts were What the f*uck just happened?!?! This book is a mess and I have to say that it just didn't need to happen.

This book is about Beckett and Eve. Thank the heavens it's filled with Cole/Kyle and Blake/Livia because if not it would be a zero start book. Basically it's a really bad B-Movie made into a book. There are so many unbelievable fight scenes and strange choppy moments that I almost just wanted everyone dead so this would just stop. I know this wont make me popular with fans, but I did read Poughkeepsie when it was very new and loved it! The issue is that there are pure moments of amazing in this book, followed by crap. It felt like two people were writing this. I know that Beckett is a crude man but at times it was just over kill.

The ending is fine but it made me wonder why this book existed, I mean, Eve and Beckett's relationship doesn't really change, I mean not in the way you want. The only gift were moments with Blake and Coles families and see what happened to them. They're the only reason I would continue this series is to see what happens to their families. That and Ryan, I wanted him to have his happy ending so bad.

I personally don't want to spend anymore time on this book... So forgive this short review. If you're looking for a book filled with amazing moments, you should just stick with the first book, Poughkeepsie.

I don't know why I never reviewed this when I first read it. Return to Poughkeepsie was absolutely brilliant. Beckett is everything. Without a doubt one of my favorite fictional characters. Deeply layered, complex, neither fully good or really bad. He's so REAL and I think that's what I love most about Debra's writing... she can weave a believable story that is so fucking deep and multi-layered, it leaves me awestruck. Love this series hardcore.

Return to Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia
4.5 stars!!!

“But if all this time between them had taught him anything, it was that they were orbiting the same fate. Together, always together, even when physically apart.”

It seems like I had waited a lifetime for this book, I totally adored Poughkeepsie, I fell in love with the brothers then and was eagerly waiting for the next instalment. I was under the impression that this was going to be Beckett’s story, it is and it isn’t, well not what you would probably be expecting. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it. As always, like Poughkeepsie the plot is thick and action packed, therefore I cannot really say too much without giving away too much of the story but I will say that Debra’s sense of humour is rife throughout this book and there are plenty of “laugh out loud” moments, the humour interspersed with all the drama led to a perfect balance.

We do catch up with the other brothers throughout this book, Blake and Livia and Cole and Kyle. We are introduced to a new character called Ryan, he is an undercover cop and he is adorable, even though his first goal in life was revenge against one infamous Beckett Taylor, an eye for an eye, a life for a life, or will he too see that there is more to Beckett than the legend that goes with the name.

The book starts with Beckett leaving Poughkeepsie, he wants to be a better man for Eve, be the man that she deserves. He wants to go straight but knowing what he knows and what the police know, he cannot do that in Poughkeepsie so he has to reinvent himself, elsewhere and this is what he sets off to do. He does try to put down roots, you saw the “good” Beckett and what I personally feel is the real Beckett, he takes in all waifs and strays, trying to turn their lives around and this is no different with two ladies called Chery and Vere. He even rescues a death row dog from the pound that he names Ghandi and this dog has some stellar scenes.

“His heart overflowed with good intentions but his fists felt best covered in blood.”

Eve too has also moved away, leading a new life, one that she is not totally happy with but it keeps her busy. Beckett has asked her to wait for him, but how long should she put her life on hold for…when you love someone as much as she loves Beckett, will she wait forever? Little does she know that Beckett totally feels the same and them being apart kills him inside, however he feels that it is a necessary evil.

Beckett’s departure leaves Poughkeepsie unguarded, with no claim on the turf, this leaves it an open target for takeover but with Beckett’s demise only a rumour will anyone be brave enough to make a move? We all know there are some seriously crazy people in this world and Poughkeepsie is no exception, but to what lengths will they go?

We could tell from the synopsis that Blake and Livia were going to be affected and it is this that brings back the force to be reckoned with that is Beckett and Eve. These two individually are kick ass and bad ass, but together they are formidable and make a great team. It was great to see them together again and they have not lost their touch, nor their spark. Fighting together side by side is where they soon realise they both belong and where they are happiest. Eve doesn’t need a “straight” Beckett, she just needs Beckett.

“Adrenaline flooded his heart. It beat as if it could power a hundred men. Damn it all if it didn’t feel fantastic.”

This is by no means a hearts and flowers love story, we get that part with Blake and Livia and Cole and Kyle, but Beckett and Eve are EXPLOSIVE, seriously, seriously hot together, melting the kindle kind of heat but I just wish they were together for more of the story.

“I love you, Eve. You’re the only heart I have.”

As usual this book is beautifully written, descriptive, emotive and full of humour, you feel every word. Even though Beckett and his brothers were apart, their lives were still intricately linked and you felt this throughout the book, even when the story was flipping between Beckett’s new life in Maryland and the boys back in Poughkeepsie, you felt the connection, their bond is that strong. I loved catching up with these three and as I approached the end of the book it soon became apparent that their stories are far from over. So now I have another wait…I hope it is not as long as this was but I will wait patiently as I did for this one. More Beckett, Blake and Cole…yes please!

“After his limbs twitched with complaint at the loss of her warmth, he settled into a deep nap, mouth still moving, clicking on occasion, soothing himself with the memory of feeding.” see, I can see a baby doing that, this book enables you to picture the scene.

If you have not read this series, why not? It is definitely a must read. I will say I do feel that Poughkeepsie was the better book for me but I do feel that was because it was Blake’s story, he is a totally different kettle of fish and the two cannot really be compared. This book is action packed and will keep you on your toes throughout but it is a great read, I loved it.
