Kaye Trilby and her ex-husband, world-famous author Samuel Cabral, vowed to fight for their rekindled love in rain or shine. They didn’t realize they’d be caught in a deluge so quickly.

A near-fatal skydiving accident shows Kaye how her reckless behavior affects the ones she loves. But while she knows Samuel is afraid to lose her again, she isn’t ready to give up the thrill of the wild backcountry.

Something darker is slipping into Samuel’s mind, though. The specters of his past are re-emerging. His polish is deteriorating, just as all of Hollywood braces for his blockbuster book-to-movie adaptation. When he appears on Kaye’s doorstep late one night in a rumpled tuxedo, erratic and agitated, it seems that romance with her ex might be her biggest leap yet. A string of failed relationships has pushed Samuel to the brink, the fall-out leaving him in a dark place—a place where Kaye is powerless to help him. She is reluctantly drawn back into Samuel’s glittering and backbiting world of celebrity, all the while clinging to the steadfast peaks of home.

Can Kaye risk her heart with Samuel a second time? Will they ever find their blue skies?

"Keeping Samuel with me was like forcing sunlight to stay on my skin. It could burn and burn and burn until my arm was a charred, aching mess. Even so, its brilliance would vanish when the sun sank."

My Kaye and Samuel:

It is a huge talent when author is able to touch her readers with her words in a powerful way. And Sarah Latchaw has it. Skygods is not your ordinary contemporary romance and Kaye's & Samuel's story touched me like no other.

Skygods is utterly beautiful, captivating and realistic tale of rekindled love, tale of two people finding a way back to each other in spite of adversity. It is sad, but hopeful story which shows us the lenght person would go to, sacrificies person would make for the loved one. Moreover, Skygods is believable, never over-the-top drama-filled novel. And thanks for that. Because nothing can ruin a book as irritating, eye-rolling drama.

Book starts where Hydraulic Level Five ended - with main protagonists trying to mend their long time ago broken friendship. Once again, Sarah Latchaw provoked various emotions in me while reading her book. I adored playful side of Kaye's and Samuel's relationship. I rejoiced at every single happy moment. And my heart broke for Samuel, seeing firsthand how his dark demons were slowly destroying him. Is Kaye strong enough to deal with Samuel's secrets, eccentric behaviour and his stressful life of famous writer?

But it is not only emotions that makes this story so precious to me. It is also in depth depicted characters and admire worthy storytelling skills that will completely drag you into the story. Believe me when I say that I cannot recommend this series enough!

Hydraulic Level Five was my favourite contemporary romance novel of 2013 and I can genuinely say that this sequel secured the same position in the year 2014. I already cannot wait for more from this incredibly talented author!

5 EMOTIONAL AND HEARTBREAKING STARS

description

This book was perfection! Like the first book I was mesmerized by the writing, the story and the characters! It was so unique and realistic! I thought the first book was so emotional! But wait until you read this one! I'm so emotional after I finished this book! I still can't believe that I finished it. I want more Samuel and Kaye! OMG Sarah what did you do with my feelings? It was so much deeper especially when some new secrets were revealed...

This book begins where the previous left off. Kaye and Samuel has decided to give their relationship a second chance as friends and something more! They're finally spending more time together.. they have much to learn about each other's past and present. ..

description

But as time goes by new secrets will be revealed...
Can they get past them? Can they deal with them?
Is their love deep enough to keep them together?

I loved the characters so much! Both of them were unique and I would have them in my top list of favorite characters! Samuel...OMG I feel for him!mMore than the first book! He is so tortured... He has to deal with so many things..
But what kept him strong is Kaye! She is the light in his dark life! She is what he needs! I loved them together! They were meant to be together, their love story is so beautiful I also loved their playful moments! Kaye also proved how much she loves Samuel! She was there for him and she wanted to help him!

description

"Kaye,I'm not about to sacrifice our time together for my career."

Is it selfish that I want a Samuel for myself?!
I would like to say that this author is amazing!!! I hope that she will write more books soon!!

Please you must give this book a try!!! It will captivate you from the beginning!!!
everybody deserves a second chances!

I highly recommend it to everyone who loves books about second chances!!! Because everyone deserves a second chance!

Samuel and Kaye have made great strides in making their relationship work and making it a thing of value. They are making time for each other but it's hard with Samuel on tour...that is, until Samuel comes up with a plan.

I was really optimistic when I started this book. Things were going well with Samuel and Kaye and that should've been a big clue. It was really hard watching things unravel and to wait for Kaye to pick up on those clues. It was like a train wreck waiting to happen.

description

I loved it and I hated it. Obviously, I love all the drama and angst but at this point, I needed some happy...some romance....some steam. Instead, I got Samuel in all his messed up glory. I really just wanted to hug him.

description

Kaye really shines in this book. She steps up to the plate when it's needed and she's fiercely protective of Samuel which I loved. When she needed help, she wasn't beyond reaching out and getting it.

I loved that all the characters we got to know in the first book really come through for this couple. It was great to have that kind of support because it was really needed. I loved how Kaye's Mom was there for her immediately.

I also enjoyed the new characters and what they brought to the story. Ace and Justin were two of my favorites as well as Nat and Patrick. I even liked Indigo.

It was interesting to see how Kaye and Samuel handled themselves...and handled each other. They have both learned a great deal.

description

The book ends well but there is a frickin' excerpt for the next book that I couldn't help but read. Ugh...why do I do this to myself?! *Fingers crossed* that the next book, Fourteeners comes out soon and there's some happy times!

This is the kind of series that could go on forever and I'd never get tired of reading it. I really hope Latchaw comes through with book 3. Book 2 ends with a HFN, and it's satisfying, but I really, really want more. Really.

5 Mesmerizing Stars!

Blog Tour, Giveaway, and review is also posted here : http://slitsread.com/2014/08/26/skygo...

I fell in love with Kaye and Samuel on book one, Hydraulin Level Five…. The first book was so delightful, it had me laughing and loving with the characters and the story… Kaye and Samuel’s pranks against each other were hilarious…. But most of all, I kept hoping for them to get back together, despite the fact that Samuel brought his girlfriend to his parents house for his sisters wedding. And I loved how it ended… it wasn’t rushed or forced… but it ended with a promise. I would highly recommend you read the first book before you read this one, even for reasons alone that “it is so worth the read!”.

In this sequel, let’s just say, If I loved them before, I loved them even more here. In this book, we’ll get to know Samuel more… their past and present. It is very touching and captivating…. And it is written so beautifully, so flawlessly… thus, making me a huge fan of Ms. Latchaw.

The story continues where it left off in the first book… where Kaye and Samuel rekindles their love and friendship, promising to be honest and open with each other. While Kaye still seeks answers to what went wrong in their relationship… and Samuel promises to make Kaye part of his life this time, no matter what.

Though this is written on Kate’s POV… I can read and feel Samuel’s thoughts and feelings through the childhood memoir his writing. I felt his struggles from keeping something from Kaye and his pain for hurting her. A memoir that is written with such innocence and with such raw intensity, that bared his soul.

I want to share what went wrong, the reason that Samuel left and pushed Kaye away, but I believe it is part of the element of surprise on their story. It certainly wasn’t as simple as what I thought it was. It did gave me a better understanding on what Samuel was going through… and is still struggling from the demons that still haunts him.

“Look how we’ve hurt ourselves, Kaye. We’ve both grasped at shards of life, hoping to reclaim some sort of wild elation only to find we cut ourselves a little bit more.”

Kaye only proved her love and loyalty towards Samuel. I felt so connected with Kaye… I could feel her helplessness… and her fight. I couldn’t find a better female protagonist. I admired her approach in life and choices…

As much as I missed all that laughter that the first book offered…. I was moved by the seriousness of the story… a story that sits close to reality…. But is written ever so lightly and delicately.

Kaye still maintained her playful character, and then there’s Kaye and Samuel’s playful moments that also never fails to put a smile on my face.

I loved all the twist and turns of the story, the media circus, the publishing politics, the cut-throat hollywood lifestyle…. But I most specially loved how the story ended. I can only wish for a more Kaye and Samuel? Perhaps? ;)

Continuing where Hydraulic Level Five left off, Samuel and Kaye are trying to find out if they can rekindle their friendship with a hope for something more. This book was a lot darker, with the true extent of Sam's lies and demons coming to light.

With their friendship vows fresh on her mind, Kaye has to decide whether her love for Samuel is worth the heartache that comes with his illness.

I'm hoping book 3 will find them in a much happier place.

This book took such a different route than the first. It had different pacing, and it brought forward the answers to so many questions I had brewing in my mind. If I'm honest, it wasn't as spectacular as the first. It didn't have the heart pounding suspense that almost every new page brought. BUT it gave me a new side to Samuel that I greatly appreciated.

Now that Kaye and Samuel have decided to work on building their friendship (and maybe something more) there are a new set of challenges ahead for them. Not only are they getting to know each other again, but Samuel asks Kaye to come on his book tour and uses her PR firm. This means that while they are trying to learn each other again, they've also got the hectic craziness that comes with Samuel's nonstop schedule and Kaye actually working for him.

New revelations about why Samuel left seven years ago come to light... and its pretty earth shattering for Kaye. She has always felt like one of the Cabral family members. But how can she deal with the fact that they all kept secrets from her that could have kept Kaye and Samuel together? Its such a crazy, bumpy road. And Caroline's smug ass keeps popping up to stir trouble.

I know I said that this book wasn't as spectacular as the first, but it was still so strong. The characters were yet again the stand out. As was Samuel's book about their childhood. It was nice to get some of the events written in Kaye's POV... she really had to look into her feelings and situations that she never had before.

I am actually soooooo glad that there is another book for these two. I'm not quite ready to say goodbye. But damn, it's not even up on goodreads and I'm not a very patient woman.

The sequel to Hydraulic Level Five began right where the first left off. I have been waiting anxiously for this book to come out, and I was not disappointed at all when I read it. I must say, it was even better than the first. The characters Sarah created were quite relatable and amazing. They were real and easily drag you right into the story.

The flow of the story takes you through so many happy times, confused times, and completely heartbreaking times. It's a ride of a lifetime–the best kind of ride. I was thoroughly invested in the wellbeing of the characters and their story.

The story itself takes us through the sorting of a lifetime of secrets so we understand why two people who obviously love each other more than anything in this world were separated and divorced for so long. They were best friends as children and lovers as young adults but strangers as grownups, navigating this world without their other half. It's a sad story, but one with so much hope for their future.

Samuel (in my mind Sam-well, because he's Mexican) is this handsome, successfully incredible man. And he's keeping a secret that only a few know. Kaye is his little güera is destroyed inside by their separation but she is strong and uses dangerous adventures to keep going.

I love the use of Mexican slang in the story and the reference to La Llorona.

Sarah is talented and gave us a story in two parts that is completely believable, captivating, beautiful, and so incredible. I recommend this to everyone that likes a great romance with true struggles. Believe me, you'll lose yourself in it and never forget the story of Samuel and Kaye.

I loved the first book in the series and couldn’t wait to get to Skygods to get some answers. The author is an amazing storyteller and writer...her words instantly sucking you in. And while I love Samuel and Kaye I couldn’t help but feel bored with this book. It was interesting to learn and understand why Samuel is the way he is. But the day to day was a bit stale for me and this book lacked the omg, angsty, and feel good love moments I felt in book 1. Would I read more to see where their story goes? Most definitely. I just hope for MORE in the next one...more emotion, more something to hold my attention throughout.

Skygods is the second book in the Hydraulic trilogy. I fell in love big time with Samuel and Kaye's story in the first book, Hydraulic Level Five, and couldn't wait to get my hands on this sequel. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. I am completely in love with Samuel and Kaye. If you have not started this series, I highly recommend it.

What I love about this series is the incredibly thoughtful way the build-up, break down, and then repair and renewal of a relationship is handled. There are no quick fixes here. There is damage and deceit and drama to be dealt with. And that just touches on what we learned from the first book. Then here we add in more layers of revelations and discoveries. But all the while these twists and turns do not overwhelm the baseline that is a beautiful love story between two souls connected since childhood. I loved watching the way Samuel and Kaye are learning so much about themselves and about each other, the way they are connecting all the pieces of their past, but also connecting to each other in the present at a level far deeper than I think they could have imagined.

As for Samuel and Kaye, I just love them. They have completely captured my heart. Their love story is so beautiful and tender. They've made mistakes, they've had many challenges, the depths of their characters are being tested, and their future road has more bumps to traverse. But their love is strong, and watching them grow through it all is a touching, refreshing journey. And while this one does not end on a cliffhanger or anything - it ends in a good place - I already can't wait for the last book. Because I simply want to read more and more about this incredible and enchanting couple and their heartfelt and thoughtful (and very romantic) journey.

I will read anything Sarah Latchaw writes, because why wouldn't you?

This is the follow up to Hydraulic Level 5. A book that transformed me through the narrative, with the growth, struggles, revelations, hopes and achievements of its characters.

This series is more.

The topics are dealt with respect. The love is broken and strong and beautiful and believable.

I cared about these characters. I cared about the importance of each page.

There are stories inside this story and all of them are relevant.

Why extreme sports? Why tackle these particular conditions? Why these careers? I believe because it references us, our humanity. We are use to looking at things through the shining screen of fames mirrors. Some of us long to conquer, be adventurous, brave. Some of us have to fall from great heights or climb mountains in our emotional lives. Living is an extreme sport.

I will keep turning the last page of the book hoping to find another page magicked away for me. I want to keep reading, learning, loving, understanding, acknowledging this couple so that I may do the same in life.

The writing in these books is outstanding. I'm in awe, I won't lie. I said it in HL5 and I will say it again, I'd be so proud if I had written this and the author should be. Not only is it beautiful, powerful and challenging, it's a story that matters. You really can't confuse these books with any others.

Bloody excellent read.

Hydraulic Level 5 and Skygods
is by far one of the best and uniquely written second chance romance I ever read. I loved every moment of Sarah Latchaw's brilliant writing and I can't recommend these two books enough!

I first read this story as a fanfic and it quickly became one of my favorites of all time.
Maybe I was a little burnt out when it became time to read it in print. I don't know. But I do know Kaye and Samuel is a couple I will return to many times.

Childhood sweethearts,
Early marriage,
Quick divorce -and two broken hearts.

But what happened that fateful night in New York 7 years ago? What was the real reason for Samuel to abandon Kaye, the love of his life, and their marriage!

Things aren't always what they seem and the truth turns out to be a lot darker than Kaye could have imagined.

We barely scratched the surface in Hydraulic Level 5. In Skygods the whole truth finally comes out.

Let me take a moment to praise this author. Sarah is crazy talented and she managed to keep me on the edge of my seat during the whole book. Her next book is already on the top of my to read -list.

Samuel Cabral is now one of my absolute top book boyfriends. I don't even know where to start. I just fell for him from the start. He is sweet, caring, protective, endearing and absolutely gorgeous!

I loved the first book in this series, and I really liked this one, I felt this one just fell a little short. I got what I desperately needed in the first book, Samuel and his struggles, and him being more open to Kaye. I got more of feisty, and true, Kaye, but frankly I was just bored through about 1/2 of it. It lacked the anxiety levels that I loved in the first book, and I felt it lacked passion between Samuel and Kaye. Don't get me wrong, I loved the moments they had together, I just felt like Samuel was still holding back, Kaye was basically pulling teeth to get emotion out of him. I just wanted more from him for Kaye. Yes, he had his unspoken moments, but I just needed more. I am excited for the next book in Sam and Kaye's journey and their HEA!!

Second chance romance junkies will enjoy SKYGODS, the continuation to Kaye and Samuel's story from Hydraulic Level Five. Even though the story veered off in a different and less compelling direction, I still felt invested in the characters and enjoyed the story overall.

In book one, Samuel was immersed into Kaye's world, discovering who she is now seven years after he left their marriage. In Skygods, Kaye gets to experience what Samuel's life is like when she takes on the role of publicist, while kindling their new delicate relationship. The secrets Samuel have been carrying around for years come to the surface, especially one in particular that was the root cause for why he left her.

Much like Hydraulic Level Five, excerpts from a working draft that Samuel and Kaye are writing are included in the story. This time, it's not fiction that Samuel's writing but a biographical account of their love story and how it fell apart, with themselves as the two main leads.

I really enjoyed Samuel and Kaye as characters. I think they've handled the challenges they face in this book very maturely and responded to them in a real way. Their group of friends and family are equally as fun.

Where this book faltered for me was the plot. While I really appreciated these two fictional characters communicating and working through their problems, this doesn't necessarily translate to compelling fiction. The question and answer sessions that I liked in the last part of Hydraulic continued and it felt more like information dumping rather than a effective way to move the story along. Also, Samuel's health was dragged out in excruciating detail which further stalled the plot's momentum.

Skygods didn't have the same pull as the previous book. Samuel and Kaye have all but gotten back together, so that source of conflict is gone. There isn't so much romantic tension but rather Samuel and Kaye has navigating how to be together with the people they are now with their truths laid bare.

In my review of book one, I wondered if the books could have been one book or one story, and I wanted to read this book before I gave an opinion on that. After reading Skygods, I think a one-book story could have sufficed here or maybe a book and a novella (but I'm not the author). I see there is going to be a third book and I'm not sure I'm interested in finding out what's next with these couple enough to read an entire third novel.

I know this is a lot of criticism, but I did enjoy the book, just not as much as Hydraulic Level Five. Sarah Latchaw's writing style is engaging and it truly felt fresh. I look forward to her other books and I would definitely recommend this series to lovers of second chance romances.

The much anticipated second book in the HYDRAULIC series, SKYGODS is here! Just like in HYDRAULIC LEVEL FIVE where whitewater rafting terms are used, skydiving metaphors are used when discussing Kaye and Samuel's life. Each chapter begins with a skydiving term and then moves into the story within a story. Samuel a best-selling author is trying to write the real story of Samuel and Kaye's relationship. The reader learns the history of Samuel and Kaye's relationship while experiencing the highs and lows of their current life.

SKYGODS is the second book in the HYDRAULIC series. Even though this book can obviously stand on its own, I do believe the reader will understand the history and dynamics of Kaye and Samuel's relationship much better if HYDRAULIC LEVEL FIVE is read first.

We pick up right where we left hanging in HYDRAULIC LEVEL FIVE with Samuel and Kaye finding their way back to each other after seven years of being divorced. Each one is treading lightly and realizing they have much to learn about each other's past and present. Samuel is currently on tour for his first movie premiere based on his best-selling book that will likely lead to many more movies. Kaye is noticing the building pressure of Samuel's multiple appearances and interviews and wonders how much more he can handle before he hits the breaking point.

Kaye is busy with her own clients as part of her PR firm in Colorado. Part of her stress-relieving measures include skydiving. When one of her dives goes wrong, she realizes that her behavior really affects those she loves. But is she willing to give up the thrill of adventure for Samuel?

As Samuel ends up depending on Kaye more and more, Kaye realizes there is something more going on with Samuel than just the stress of a celebrity lifestyle. When she learns deep hidden secrets from his past, she wonders if she can really love him enough to overcome it.

I am not someone who typically reads romance novels, but SKYGODS is much more than romance. There are multiple layers to Kaye and Samuel's relationship and a history that keeps their story interesting and provocative. This is no fluffy romance but one with tension, love, fear, drama, laughter, and passion. The celebrity angle also keeps the reader fascinated by the many people it takes to make and keep someone a "star" and in the spotlight.

Fans of Latchaw's writing will also find her beautifully detailed settings in Colorado mixed in with the harsh contrast of New York and Boston city life. The friends and family prominent in HYDRAULIC LEVEL FIVE return again in SKYGODS offering strong characteristics and opinions while bringing more depth to Kaye and Samuel's story.

Latchaw is a gifted storyteller, giving the reader a perfect description of a situation, a person or a place. She places you in the moment right along with the characters either with her descriptive words or by using metaphors to explain the feelings in the moment.

"I felt my body settle into wet, slimy grass.
Several shadows hulked over me mercifully
blocking the heavy gray sky from my light-sensitive eyes." Page 33

"My bones had been broken not seven years, but twenty-seven.
Mom left me for her gardens and squished heart.
Dad left me for his new young thing.
Samuel left me for his demons...
But I'd been so busy hunkering down against the next break,
I never let those bones heal.
Like a little girl, I was so wrapped up in my fears,
I'd forgotten the fears of others...namely, Samuel's." Page 176-177

The dark and difficult moments of mental illness are brought to a glaring reality. Latchaw paints an brutally honest portrayal of both the one suffering and the loved ones who try to help. Readers will find themselves wanting to tell Kaye to run away and yet understand why she can't possibly give up.

The end of SKYGODS leaves the reader expecting more to come in Kaye and Samuel's story. The reader can be hopeful for an ending full of happiness, trust, and love.

5 stars!

The much anticipated sequel of Hydraulic Level Five!

I love those stories that deal with married couples - have been at some point or still are, doesn't matter - and the small cracks in those relationships. No one is perfect and everyday is a struggle for something better than the previous day.

Kaye and Samuel's is unique and lovable and as any other relationship, fragile and vulnerable. What made me love this so much was the characters and the way the story evolved and their believable, drama free - oh how I love drama free stories! - story made want to re-read the first book and at parts hug them both - okay maybe Sam a little bit more!

Skygods

This book picks up where HLF felt off, with Kaye and Sam trying to mend their relationship. Samuel struggles with his demons and his life as a famous writer, he and Kaye have yet a lot to learn about one another and their story has that kind of slow progress that I love reading. Nothing rushed in order for the story to make sense or for them to finally get to that point. As those two get closer, the story hooks you in more than the last chapter and a little bit more, and a little bit more until you can't help but love the way they interact and where seriousness and playfulness meet.

Apart from their issues as a couple, trying to work their way through them, they have a beautiful story as friends and and childhood memories blend into their everyday life, this story is just captivating as a whole.

I have been reassessing the way I give ratings - trying to be more realistic - so JSYK this is a genuine reader 5 stars and not a fangirl 5 stars.

I read this when it was fanfic and loved it then. At the time it stood out as something exceptional. Reading it now it is easy to leave it's origins behind as it is so far beyond even the bestseller original.

Beyond the excellent pacing, the sublime writing the perfect plotting this is a very touching story.

It is about love. Not the insta lust of many romances - though that chemistry is there. Not the on again off again drama that adds the uncertainty to many - though that uncertainty is always in the background. Not the love triangle standard - though jealousies play their part.

This is a story of true love and two people trying to repair the path to return to each other. It is an adult story without the cloud of fantasy. It is about the sort of love where you need to make compromises, you need to know when to bite your tongue so it doesn't make things worse, you need to understand who you are and what you can cope with. It is also about the love and support of friends, family and the landscape itself.

It is also the journal of an adrenalin junkie and inveterate practical joker. It has it all - humour, tenderness, anger, misunderstandings, villains, thrills, and true love.

Read it (and it's prequel if you haven't already)

Skygods hits the ground running and never slows down. It picks up where HL5 ends and we watch the new dynamic develop between Kaye and Samuel. They continue to reexamine the choices they made during their first courtship and marriage and finally confront the last Other together.

Sarah Latchaw has added nuance to some aspects of this story which makes it feel a little bit grittier and more real. As the phrase goes, no one is all good or all bad and Sarah's characters and the situations into which they put themselves reflect this truth.

Although I was looking forward to seeing this story come to its natural conclusion, I was very happy to discover that there will be a third book. Can't wait to see what happens to these crazy kids after the happily ever after.
